Thank so much Garage Built Honda's. I own a JDM GSR swapped 90 Si Hatch, you've made this process incredibly easy. You also made the GSR fuel filter replacement very very simple. You've single handedly made me a significantly more self reliant person. That is an invaluable trait to bestow upon others. You're doing good work man. Thank you.
And 1 thing never mentioned is brake lines need to match caliper if u use da teg u need da lines and DC needs DC lines cause it comes out side of caliper and da is angled to bottom and longer
Canada here, replacing cables on rear drums today...sweeeeet vid...tutorial really lol...best wishes to you n yours...keep turning that wrench...one love
For 88-91 ebrake cables that fit (CRX=short, DA=long) use 92-95 Civic Si or 93-95 Civic EX coupe (not sedan). They are the exact same length as the EF3/EF9 ebrake cable. The bolt brackets from the 88-91 HB easily swap over to the 92-95 cable and allows for a seamless install in the factory location.
They'll be long, but you can probably loop them a little. Watch this video to see how the DA cables fit on a crx. ruclips.net/video/hyq57nH9cHE/видео.html
Grabbed a set of RTA's and ebrake cables from the junkyard off if a DA this morning. Will be doing those in the next month or so. So many cars, so little time lol Will def ne using your video as a guide. A lot of the old walk throughs online are missing photos and such.
what I currently have to do .previous owner installed the rear trailing arm but no brake cable, brake lines, pads or rotors. debating on just getting a new set. but this helped a lot as every car ive bought had rear disc already. keep up the great work. #GulfCoastEfs
Great job as usual Jon. never let us down with the detailed info and step by step instructions. Hopefully soon enough RUclips will start sending you a check to keep the projects going. Read something about some tshirts. Very excited for that 👍👌
+Anthony Del Rio right dude! I'm smart about my money and always selling & buying cars/parts for profit. These videos are what I have always been doing before I started recording them, now I enjoy it! Hopefully I can continue to keep growing and making more new content!
I can also confirm that 2000 Acura integra gsr arms fits. The brake feel feels good even without the proportioning valve which I still plan on installing in the Future.
Man awesome diy vids Bro...I have a 91 crx that I plan to turbo.. I have a d15b7 and just finished the wire tuck and painted engine bay after removing the dash (thanks to your dash removal video)..I was considering moving on to the rear disc conversion and suspension but I have electrical and possible roll cage to take care of since the dash is out wanted to check your thoughts on what is best to knockout first..at this point im saving the engine work last
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! No particular order, just keep working on something and you'll get to the end point eventually. Just do what needs to be done and keep knocking them out one at a time!
Great Vid.! Another way is to just get the rear spindle or hub assembly from a DA teggy it unbolts from the RTA with 3 torx bolts. You can bolt it straight on the stock RTA 👍👍👍
Austin Johnson Hey men, can i do this installation if a have a crx ed8 (japan) with no solid lower control arms (as eg6 or dc2) i have a conversion from civic 92-95 but i dont want to change my lower control arms and shock.
Jon, I recently completed a rear disc swap from a 93 Del Sol into 90 EF hatch. Cable were a little tight, and I had to make the threaded ebrake screw a little longer, but it works!
Yea, and I used your other videos to replace rear trailing arm bushings, and went with ARP extended studs. Thanks for everything you share! My Build. honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/my-new-ef-3294176/
Awesome diy! I have a 1990 teg with a b20b that ima be swaping into my crx along with the front knuckles and rta. My question is what dog bone to use when swappin in da rta?
awesome vids! whats the geometry difference with rear da trailing arm/brake/hub on ef hatch? ive heard the hub sticks out further compared to oem ef assembly, but cant find out how much. (trying to plan ahead for wheel fitment.)
This it's a great video, very helpful. Though I have just one question. Can you keep the original e-brake cables, or is it a must to replace them? I ask the question because my EF LX came with the rear disc conversion already, but am having issues with my e-brake, I've adjusted it as much as possible from the center console but, really makes no big difference. Thank you!!!
You can't use drum cables, you need disc brake cables. They are not the same. You can purchase the cables brand new also if you want to try replacing them. You may want to see if the caliper is sticking where the cable is attached to it.
Heat them! Then run ur impact rev then forward and keep going and they will normally get loose and come out! I work on cars in canada... so ive had my fair share!
Hey john was just wondering about wether the stock booster and master cylinder are fine with the conversion or if they need to be updated aswell. Cheers
Great video. I'm doing my disc brake conversion with Scarebird brackets, etc. My question to you is that you haven't or don't need to address the power brake booster, proportioning valve or master cyclinder. Scarebird recommends 1997 acura integra for its conversion. They go as far as replacing the master cylinder. Can all these changes work correctly with the existing power brake booster (91 CRX HF)? If not, any suggestions?
Great video...I have trailing arms from a DC integra...can I still use the e brake lines ? Will I need to loop them? Everyone says the DA e brake lines are the best choice since they arnt as long as DC, but when I look up the specs the DC lines are 3 inches shorter...a bit confused. I think il replace them with new regardless, just want to know the best lines to use for the ef
I used 90 Integra rear trailing arms and all of the brake lines and e brake cables both of them a hundred percent is the 40/40 valve from a different type of car because mine has it something that looks just like what you put in
hey Jon I was wondering what e brake cables you used as I have read the da cables are too long for the ef hatch and you have to route them differently can you shed some light on this subject?
Jeff Marquette I've used DA cables on both my hatchbacks, no problems. The cables are a little long for the CRX though but I've seen people loop them and they still work.
So basically, I could just order said acura parts online and slap it on my ED7? Also, is it possible to convert 4 lug to 5 lug hubs? Love your videos, you make these tasks less intimidating. Can I be your disciple?...Sensei!
Hello There, First great video. Now, the real question. I have a 1997 honda Civic LX , and I would like to do a real disk conversion. What would you recommend regarding the parts need it to complete the job? I don't know from what year and model I can take the parts I need to make the conversion. This is my first Honda; well it's my daugther's car. Any info will help. Thanks, and keep up the good videos.
I'm doing this conversion now and for me there's no way in hell I'm getting those two bolts without pulling down the gas tank on top of that one of the bolts broke right off so I got to get in there with a drill and try to dig it out great video otherwise though I might be able to unscrew the tank a little bit give me some wiggle room and try again
Loop them around underneath close to the gas tank. I've never done it but s good friend had it done on his crx. I want to see it but have never had the chance yet.
Hey Jon, I know this is an old video but if you see this, can you tell me if I can attach the lines from the DA integra disks to the hardline on the body of a 90 civic hatch? I know you said to get stainless steel ones but I noticed that your lines were cut in the video and wasn't sure if you said to get stainless ones because of that.
Stainless isn't needed. The stock ones will fit. I always upgrade because those old rubber hoses start to crack and break and since I'm already disconnecting the lines, it just makes sense to replace them at that time.
+Muffin Racing damn you muffin!! I forgot and now that you reminded me, I'm a little annoyed at myself. Lol. I will weigh one the next chance I get and I'll update the results in the description.
Supp bro me again , so I found a 91 Acura and I was able to take the rear trailing arms and disk brakes ..my question is can I use my Si e-brake or do i use the ones from the Acura? Also what type of brake lines should I look for ?
Was this done on a crx? My parking brake cables had a different setup of how they led into the cabin. The rubber grommets that lead into the cabin were different. They were 2 seperate grommets. Just wondering if your video is of a hatch or sedan
Hey there quick question. Can I use the same lower arms where the shocks go For a 88 crx The 89 and 88 and different rear shocks Can the lower arms be interchangeable? Or do I have to use the 89 si shocks too?
+Andres Lucero I have some decals available so far! Would love for you to sport some on your car/toolbox/laptop/whatever! The link to my shop is below in the description.
I’m have an issue that I think may be kinda related. When my 91 CRX Si sits for a bit the passenger side ebrake sticks and recently I noticed a rubbing noise that seems to be coming from the rear. Would this be a sign that I need to replace the brakes? Would the sticking mean I need to replace the cable too? Thanks.
I would clean and lube all the parts and see if that helps. Cleaner off all the corrosion on any of the slide pins and contact surfaces. If that doesn't fix it then possibly the caliper might be broken.
Was up Jon Ey great videos brother I have a question I have a 90 Honda Civic hatchback I have a 93 integra gs rear arms that Am going to install on my civic but my question is this will original break lines work just plug and play or do I need to get longer ones ..... now will my original e Brake cable on my civic will also work just plug and play or do I need to get another ones from a integra thanks
I am doing the swap on my 1989 Honda Civic LX sedan I heard the when you swap the 90-93 Integra the wheels stick out more. Anyone confirm and how much they would stick out? Also does it matter if you use a 94-01 trailing arm that have ABS versus non ABS? thank you
do you know what size the rear caliper bracket mounting bolts are, or if they are all the same size for all rear disc conversions? im having trouble finding them for 90 crx si rear disc
Hey GBH you should do garage built t-shirts! Black t shirt with white lettering!! And charge like $15-$20 shipped! I would buy one for sure! Let me know what you think?
Hey kind of new to this but I was wondering if changing the proportioning valve is necessary, also wondering which brake cables would fit best in my 91 CRX?
You need 90-91 CRX Si cable for best fit. All the others you will have to loop around close to the gas tank area. The valve isn't necessary but does give you the best brake bias for adding the rears on a car that normally is drum. I've done it for years with the regular valve on my sedan and it has been fine.
Garage Built Hondas Thanks a lot man, I was afraid I wouldn't get a reply but thank you very much. Thank you for the great videos too very informative and easy instructions to follow
Hi, I'm trying to do a swap like this you did, however I've found a problem with the brake fluid lines.. Look, I'm mounting the Integra 1993 RTA on an Civic sedan EJ6 LX 1998, the problem is the original Integra's brake fluid lines are too short; so, my question is, what brake fluid lines should I buy to fit in my new rear Civic configuration? I'd really appreciate any help about this matter.. Thanks in advance..
Hey Jon I know for sure 92-00 civics and 94-01 integra RTA work and all interchange
Ronnie Gonzales
What all needs to be swapped out to make the DC Integra brakes work?
Same as in the video
I have trailing arms for a 93 si on my 95 Civic... do you think it will fit in my 2000 Civic ex? I rather have them on the EK
Yes
The 40/40 valve can be found off an integra ?
Thank so much Garage Built Honda's. I own a JDM GSR swapped 90 Si Hatch, you've made this process incredibly easy. You also made the GSR fuel filter replacement very very simple. You've single handedly made me a significantly more self reliant person. That is an invaluable trait to bestow upon others. You're doing good work man. Thank you.
Love to hear it, thanks for letting me know!
It's 2020 and I converted my 89 si 17 years ago, 1992 integra rear brake swap, just wanted to say you are doing a great job.
Thanks Ben
And 1 thing never mentioned is brake lines need to match caliper if u use da teg u need da lines and DC needs DC lines cause it comes out side of caliper and da is angled to bottom and longer
I bought LS RTA just for this. Glad you made this video to remind me I'm slacking
I just want to thank HBG and all the positive/informative comments in the comment section of this video 🙏🏽🫶🏼
Thanks, hope it all helps!
I think this is the best video by far for explaining things. Great camera work too👌🏻 subscribed!
Thanks Evan, and welcome!
Just got a 91 hatch si with a GSR all cuz of binge watching your vids... and this will be one of my 1st mods
Hell yeah, love to hear that!! 😍
great video Jon super detailed..this had to be one of the best upgrades I ever did to my sedan stopping power after was night and day.
Yes!!! Finally!! Thank you jon! Your vids are great! I did my rear disc conversion last week

Amazing videos man! I hope you won't stop sharing these honda mechanic tutorials. It helps me when i work on my civic! 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thanks, I don't plan on it, hoping to keep bringing some decent content!!
@@GarageBuiltHondas maybe you can show someday how to do an auto to manual tranny swap, esp. on a 98 civic ex (wishful thinking).
If given the opportunity I definitely will. I haven't done a swap like this in a while now!
Is there any other option for crx cables? A shorter option other than the 90-91 CRX SI cables that you know of?
So Civic ex sedan wont work for CRX?
They'll be long, but you can probably loop them a little. Watch this video to see how the DA cables fit on a crx. ruclips.net/video/hyq57nH9cHE/видео.html
About to do my RDC, just picked up some DA RTA's, thanks for this and all your vids.

mark0shark0 You need the DA dogbone, the Civic is too small in diameter.
Holy crap thats Easy thanks 👍

awesome vids! whats the geometry difference with rear da trailing arm/brake/hub on ef hatch? ive heard the hub sticks out further compared to oem ef assembly, but cant find out how much. (trying to plan ahead for wheel fitment.)
Unsure precisely. Probably like 7-10 mm
This it's a great video, very helpful. Though I have just one question.

I did the swap to my civic dx
From a civic ex
Great diy video, seems so simple until you run into siezed bolts lol
Jdm Enthusiast very true!
Heat them! Then run ur impact rev then forward and keep going and they will normally get loose and come out! I work on cars in canada... so ive had my fair share!
Great tip!!
Take it slow with the heat and impact.
That's a quick way to strip the head or break the thing off.
Slow is safe
You forgot to tell us what to do with the 50 cents we find under the center console cover 😂
Michael C Add it to your car wash piggy bank!! Lol
Well really you should phone the person you bought the car off and ask him if he lost 50c but meh! 😁
go car wash wit it
Lol, agree
wow thanks! another cool a$$ vdo.
kracksmith4ejm1 just for you buddy!!
Hey john was just wondering about wether the stock booster and master cylinder are fine with the conversion or if they need to be updated aswell. Cheers
Matthew Parham they work perfectly fine!
It'll still work fine...if you're not racing the car on track it won't be an issue. If you are, look into the 90-91 Civic ex. It's a 15/16" size.
Great video...I have trailing arms from a DC integra...can I still use the e brake lines ? Will I need to loop them? Everyone says the DA e brake lines are the best choice since they arnt as long as DC, but when I look up the specs the DC lines are 3 inches shorter...a bit confused. I think those will fit just fine. .👍
Hi John ☺, will the 90-93 DA integra SS brake hoses fit the Civic's front brakes also? or do i have to buy 2 different SS brake hose sets?
Yes, they fit perfectly!
I used 90 Integra rear trailing arms and all of the brake lines and e brake cables both of them a hundred percent is the 40/40 valve from a different type of car because mine has it something that looks just like what you put in
All of these cars have the proportioning valve and they look identical, but they do not perform identical. It'll be stamped on the front of the valve.
Thanks for the info. I'll get back to you.
Holy shit that's a ton of work. .
It's looks harder than it is. But it is quite a process .
hey Jon I was wondering what e brake cables you used as I have read the da cables are too long for the ef hatch and you have to route them differently can you shed some light on this subject?
Jeff Marquette I've used DA cables on both my hatchbacks, no problems. The cables are a little long for the CRX though but I've seen people loop them and they still work.

Yes.
5 lug is optional as well. You could grab some R knuckles and hubs and do a 5 lug. Many people have.
Soapy water works to slide rubber, also adult lube is good and doesn't eat the rubber
Also what brake lines should I buy
Hello There,
First great video.
The info listed in the video would work for your car.
YEah boy
I'm doing this conversion now and for me there's no way in hell I'm getting those two bolts without pulling down the gas tank on top of that one of the bolts broke right off so I got to get in there with a drill and try to dig it out great video otherwise though I might be able to unscrew the tank a little bit give me some wiggle room and try again
Ouch. You might want to just drop the tank. It might save a lot of time and headache. ruclips.net/video/UOrw15qOLHI/видео.html
When is the legend gs big brake video coming.
+Tony C. I'd love to try out a swapped big brake setup on my track car next!
Does the Integra DA e-brake cable work or does it have to be from a CRX Si?
So I have a crx and I was curious if you knew how to make a DA e brake cable work. Due to the increased length.
Garage Built Hondas hell yeah! Thanks for the quick reply, I thought I was going to have to set back my swap and wait for some steel lines!
Had a question, what steel braided lines did you use? Im putting 92si trailing arms in and was wondering what lines to buy
These amzn.to/2STA77S
I've always heard the disc brakes are heavier than the drums. Did you happen to weigh the different trailing arm assemblies?
+Muffin Racing damn you muffin!! I forgot and now that you reminded me, I'm a little annoyed at myself. Lol. I will weigh one the next chance I get and I'll update the results in the description.
Good point,,, my 88 CRX HF came factory with aluminum drums and they are the lighter option. Easy to work on and parts are dirty cheap on rock auto
Supp bro me again , so I found a 91 Acura and I was able to take the rear trailing arms and disk brakes ..my question is can I use my Si e-brake or do i use the ones from the Acura? Also what type of brake lines should I look for ?
If you have drums, you have to use the Integra ebrake cables. You can pick whatever lines you want. Get them for a 90-93 Integra.
Thanks
Do I really need to remove all that?
Was this done on a crx? My parking brake cables had a different setup of how they led into the cabin. The rubber grommets that lead into the cabin were different. They were 2 seperate grommets. Just wondering if your video is of a hatch or sedan
Crx cables have 2 separate grommets. All other civics and integrals have the single grommet with the 2 holes inside that one grommet.
Hey there quick question. Can I use the same lower arms where the shocks go For a 88 crx
The 89 and 88 and different rear shocks
Can the lower arms be interchangeable? Or do I have to use the 89 si shocks too?
Yes, you can use them on each other by swapping the rear lower control arms also.
Will the 88 crx Sir work on a 91 Si? If so what will i need from the donor car?
Great video, I have 05 civic lx that I want to do the rear drum convert to disc, Does anyone know what rta I need? Thanks
Look into scarebird brackets. They might make them for your car.
The Stainless Brake lines on the link are no longer available, wanted to get the correct one, could you provide a new link?
For the rear braking lines did you get integra ones or ef si ones
Either work just fine as long as it's for disc.
you should make some merch
+Andres Lucero I have some decals available so far! Would love for you to sport some on your car/toolbox/laptop/whatever! The link to my shop is below in the description.
I’m have an issue that I think may be kinda related. When my 91 CRX Si sits for a bit the passenger side ebrake sticks and recently I noticed a rubbing noise that seems to be coming from the rear. I would clean and lube all the parts and see if that helps. Cleaner off all the corrosion on any of the slide pins and contact surfaces. If that doesn't fix it then possibly the caliper might be broken.
So glad I got to skip this step cuz I got an SI. Last car though I went full gsr suspension on my ej6.
It's convenient. I wanna try to use some scarebird adapters next.
Garage Built Hondas my 1st car I used their adapters. No complaints and very easy.
I've heard. I'll definitely try it on a future car.
You'll need both the brake lines and ebrake cables from the Integra! Yours will not work.
Garage Built Hondas Ey Jon you don’t have some for sale ....
No
Garage Built Hondas how long did it take you to complete....
It took me about 4 hours but that's with filming and doing to 40/40 valve and front brake lines.
I have 1991 EF civic can use 2000 mode ek brake all around ( front and rear disc ) on my EF ?? And it’s plug and play or ???
I am doing the swap on my 1989 Honda Civic LX sedan I heard the when you swap the 90-93 Integra the wheels stick out more. Anyone confirm and how much they would stick out? Also does it matter if you use a 94-01 trailing arm that have ABS versus non ABS? thank you
do you know what size the rear caliper bracket mounting bolts are, or if they are all the same size for all rear disc conversions? im having trouble finding them for 90 crx si rear disc
I'm sorry I don't. Probably close to an m8x1.25 or m10x1.25.
what brake lines did you use since you can't use the ones for the drums? The crx is brake lines, lines for the DA, or some other option?
We used DA on this car. You need CRX SI cables for a CRX. That's the only exception.
Hey GBH you should do garage built t-shirts! Black t shirt with white lettering!! And charge like $15-$20 shipped! I would buy one for sure! Let me know what you think?
Not One In the works!! Hoping to have something finished within the next month!
Right on!
+Enrique Arevalo you're welcome
Hey Jon I’m doing the rear disc conversion on my 91 civic hatch. I’m using the da trailing arms but I was wondering what brake line kit you used ?
+Jesus Martinez eBay stainless steel kit made for 91 Crx SI.
Garage Built Hondas thanks ! I actually found a nice set on rock auto since most of the ones on eBay come from China.
+Jesus Martinez very nice! I've had good luck with the eBay ones, their quality has been top notch!
Will your stock e-brake cable work or will you need one from a integra
No, you need rear disc cables. Integra for all models except crx. Crx need 90-91 CRX SI specific cables.
If you were to do a rear disk brake conversion on a wagon. How would you go about that?
No idea. I've never looked into it. There are methods, but I'm not familiar with them.
Alvaro Urbaez 96-00 Civic EX or 99-00 Civic Si. All of those have rear disc brakes and will be the correct length.
Hey John, I have an 86 civic sedan and one would hope they wouldn't be any different than the 88-91 year range. Do you know if it's the same?
Not even close unfortunately. Your car has a rear torsion bar and didn't benefit from the double wishbone that came out in 1988.
Do you have a link or part description When ordering stainless steel brake lines for this swap?
The link is in the description. 👍
