- I bought new tow mirrors from EBay and didn’t know I had to install a ambient temperature sensor what is causing my check engine light to come reading -40° so I took it out of the old mirror put the sensor in the driver side mirror then unhook the positive battery cable hooked it back up drove it down around town an the temperature went back to normal and check engine light is staying off now
Thanks for taking the time to make this video it was really helpful! I bought a used 2016 ram 1500 that had the code and no sensor or wiring for it. I had a empty pin in the end spot labelled pin 5. I had a spare pin to add then connected the white to pin 5 and my purple wire spot 3 was black so I cut the outer layer of wire and soldered in the black its temp reads perfect now. I erased the code and it didn't come back.

So I bought a replacement mirror that had the sensor but different pig tail. The wires were also different color but in the same location. After I wired it up, it’s working perfect. Great video.
Mine went form -40* to 72*

Jason Lance can you tell me what color to pair ? Sensor has black and white, what are the color to pair on the towing mirror ?
Did you just leave the sensor right there in with where the wires are run?

I just put a new mirror on my buddies truck because some jerk smashed it. Mil popped up next day. Been driving me nuts but now I know how to fix it!!!!
Oh an guys/girls the bolts on the new mirrors are a little long when you go to shut the door it’s going to catch you my have to grand the bolt down in order to keep from rubbing thanks everyone for the comments
Same issue for me, gonna try this. What I don't understand is, there is a Turquoise and Purple wire in the plug already, I wonder what they are there for if there is no sensor in the mirror? Do they extend in to the mirror? Well anyway gonna try this afternoon to fix.

Hey man i just switched out my non light mirrors for the sport ones and i got a enigne light and the -40
How I get the check engine light I just unhook the battery terminal and it never came back on I figured it would just be a waste of time to get the light cleared going back to the part store so far so good it’s been. A year and all is good
Did you just connect in to the green and purple or did you just cut the green and purple and replace with the white and black?
Is the ambient temperature sensor run any other systems like power steering? A.c.? What other systems are attached or have any to do with this sensor

Sorry just realize that someone commented on the video it doesn’t run anything else power steering or AC it just works your mirrors the movement and The outside temperature and I’m pretty sure the defrost on them if you have that with your mirrors

Did the same exactly thing.. i got outside temp at -19 and the sensor says +5 LOL

Shyan Ingrao you will have to follow the wire be careful and not return them and break your way until you can get it out I threw my mirrors away until I realize I needed that wire so I had to dig them out the trash haha
My temp fluctuates a lot. It’ll be 75 outside and it will read 43 degrees. After some driving it will be accurate but after more driving it’ll drop back down to 40 degrees. I’ve already replaced the actual sensor. Any idea if there’s a way to fix this?
Honestly don’t know what would cause that check your connection if you replace the sensor it possibly could still be bad mine is still doing great just temperature is reading 117° after work just so freaking hot here in North Carolina lol hopefully you get it fixed
So I did this. Did your check engine light ever go off? My temp is good now but not the check engine.
Shyan Ingrao how did you get it off the old mirror? I just changed my mirrors today, no check engine yet but I’m sure it’s coming. Also can you or the poster specify which exact hole to put the wire in? Dude wasn’t very specific.
Brook Bauer you have to get the black and white wires separated and pull them out. It was quite a process but doable. Just be careful not to cut the wires. It’s a process but you can call me and I can tell you what I did and it did work and the check engine light went off and temp is working. 928-925-0229.

Alessandro Terracciano sorry just responding I had to take it out of the old mirror it’s self it’s in the driver side you will most likely have to break it to get to it
Johnathan Sanchez i did it this morning..engine light went off and the sensor it is kind of working..just off a lot, today was -19 and sensor was giving -5 and time to time my truck was warming up inside was going up lol

@@johnathansanchez400 I was able to just take off the sensor but not the part with the cables. how did you take yours off? can you make a video?
I can’t remember exactly how I did it I’m pretty sure I I took the mirror off itself and pulled it the wire through and broke some plastic to pull the plug-ins the rest of the way I would make another video but I no longer have the old mirrors sorry about that
