+Sa Ra Thanks for checking us out! We personally have not seen much of this issue but as you stated it can and does happen, not specifically with this generation but overall there are some engines that aren't quite perfect. Unfortunately with issues like this the only thing that can be done is to be on top of your maintenance and change your fluids often to avoid any increase in the chance of issues happening.

As far as the issues around moisture getting into the fuse box, is there anything I can do to actively prevent moisture from getting in there or is it just something I can’t prevent and have to deal with if it goes bad?

    Im a ford guy. But i have a have a 2015 ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 5.7.
Honestly every brand has issues, no truck is perfect. I work in concrete but I cant afford a bigger truck. I load up mine with up to 2500 lbs in the bed at times. ive pulled close to 12000lbs with a trailer. No issues with the truck so far. Running strong. Its all about maintenance and some tlc. Yeah there might be a few lemons here and there but if you take care of your truck it will last regardless of the brand.👍

If it isn't a major problem to get fixed I am thinking about selling it and looking for a Sierra. Unfortunately all manufacturers have their one major issue. Ram has been having the same transmission issues since I can remember and they don't even consider it a problem that needs to be addressed.

      Ram 150?
      that's Ford speak.
Only thing manufactures care about is if it lasts up to their warranty, after that they don't care.
Guess you can go with a V8 next time, instead of a V6.
As for the ZF8HP transmission.... they are on a lot of different makes. BMW pretty much sells the model to everyone. And they weren't used in Ram until 2013? maybe?. (...not the same trans as a 2011 v8, regardless)
Though...I guess the straight 6 twin turbo, Hurricanes will be using the trans, when the V8 goes bye, bye. idk.

I have recently began to do all my service myself (2015 Ram 1500 5.7L). This channel has been invaluable in learning about the do's and dont's with my Truck. Back in the day (30 years ago or so) I rebuilt 2 engines for my 77 Ford 1/2 Ton. But things have changed so much since then. Thank you for making these videos to help those of us trying to save a few bucks (sometimes more than a few) by doing the work ourselves. :) I usually buy my parts from the dealer (OEM), but next time I will order from 1A. On a side note, I changed my water pump yesterday and I was shocked by how small the radiator is. I mean ... it's really thin. On my old Ford the radiator was massive. Huge. Guess technology has advanced enough to make everything smaller.

Informative video, but here is what I’ve experienced with my 2014 1500 Ram. I had the tailgate issue first off, luckily it was covered because of a recall issue. The second common thing on these Rams is the hemi tick, which stems from broken manifold bolts. That happened to my truck at 110k miles. And the most common issue, which happened to my truck at 38k (just out of warranty) was the fuel level sensor went bad. To repair that issue, the dealer wanted $900.00. Most of the cost is labor because you need to drop the gas tank. My car wouldn’t pass smog because of this issue so I had to get it fixed.

I understand that eventually I’ll have to replace the lifters and probably upgrade the camshaft, I will also be upgrading my exhaust manifold to a higher quality one but other than that nothing else. I just bought a 2014 1500 SLT with the 5.7L Hemi, 97,500 miles. I've only had it two weeks - so far, so good. It was a Canadian truck so more rust than normal underneath; that's what I'm targeting first - shocks/struts on all four wheels and the oil pan. Otherwise the engine runs and sounds good, transmission is good. I haven't noticed any coolant issues, my buddy already advised me to keep up the oil changes rigorously. Thanks for the tips, I wasn't aware of the coolant/radiator/water pump stuff. I'll keep an eye on them.

I own a 2010. I left a comment going into details about this, but it’s starting to seem like (after viewing these types of videos on our 4th gens) 90% of these problems are for the 2013 and after trucks (the ones with all the digital things like the 8 speed automatic transmission) the 2009-2012s are very mechanical trucks and very strong, those are the ones I have experience with and the only issues I’ve ever had were wheel bearings on the front and exhaust manifold bolts. That’s it.

Surprised you didn't mention the cab water leaks that plague these trucks (I own a 2015 1500, so I know). Either the high-mounted 3rd brake light seal fails and floods the headliner, or the sliding rear window drains get clogged and leak water behind the rear seat, or the air vents behind the rear seat disintegrate allowing massive amounts of water to enter the cab under the rear seat and travel forward.
This has happened on so many Gen-4 Rams there should be a general recall, but they haven't done it. I've re-sealed my brake light, so that's one down. I can't get to the sliding window drain holes without removing the sliding mechanism, which tends to break when you remove it, so I'm screwed there. And I have to remove the entire rear seat to access and replace the cab vents.
This is my 3rd Dodge Ram (they'll always be a Dodge truck, don't care what FCA/Stellantis says) and it's been pretty good, but 3 massive water intrusion points into the cab is just beyond the scope of reason for this truck, especially at the price point they sell for. I've talked to my dealer about it multiple times and they just don't want to hear about it. Which means owners are left to try to figure it out on their own.
Every truck has its own quirks and problems that happen throughout its life, but I'm starting to see people on the forums complaining about the same water leaks on the Gen-5 Rams now. So, even though FCA/Stellantis has known about these water leak problems for years, they've failed to design a better product and now the new trucks have inherited the same problems. It's insane.

The 2003 hemi and dodge in general had more occurring issues back then. The only thing that the new ram really struggles with is cam and lifters because they don’t get properly lubricated from the crank shaft while sitting at idle. If you don’t sit at idle too often. Then they make great trucks.

I have a 2017 Ram bighorn. I have noticed that they all have what sounds like a knock or a tick. That's normal. But when it starts to misfire, or stall. Then you need to look further. Also maintaining oil changes is important and using a good filter. Also through the dash menu you can check oil pressure at idle. When cold and when the engine is up to operating temperature. One more thing use a vacuum gauge on these engines. That will tell you what's going on inside the motor. The tailgate is under warranty.

I attributed that to having the bed Rhino-Lined and some goop settled in the actuiator on one side. I cleared it with my knife and I shut the gate like a 72 Ford - not a Bentley. That does it. I've owned a LOT of trucks in 45 years of driving. All of them had over 120K on them when purchased, except this one had 53K. I really haven't had many problems with any of them, but this one I've had longer than all the others. Why not?
