BoostedMotorsports Are you thoughtful of getting into an accident with that bad small overlap result on that truck? Whe're talking at around a common 40mph
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Sport and my EPS rack and pinion broke on me yesterday! A replacement costs around $1300 but I found one at an Auto Salvage yard for $450. I'm going to be doing the swap over the weekend. This is my 2nd Ram. My first was an 04 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 that I put 210K miles on then traded it in on this one.
Still driving my 2004 dodge ram, I purchased with 80,000 miles 9 years ago.. now have 348,000 miles and I only had to buy an battery and starter(and basic things like tires....etc) still running strong. I'm still getting compliments on how good it looks and sounds. Plan on buying a 2012 next year and I'm hoping it's as reliable as the one I have now.
Thats awesome Curtis glad your truck is running strong still! I would bump yourself up a couple more years. 2010-2012 seem to be the more popular years for lifter failure. Doesn't happen to all of them of course but whenever someone mentions they had an engine problem it seems to be a 2010-2012. Check out some of the other RAM videos on the channel when you get a chance and let us know what you think too 😎
Two ram 1500 and this one a big horn, excellent trucks, never had an issue. Reliable, heavy duty, powerful engine. Nothing but positive comments for me.
Glad your trucks have been lasting too Charles! Be sure to check out the other RAM content on the channel for maintenance, upgrades, and performance videos too! 😎
@@kauaikoloa4317 girls like trucks too! I'm about to purchase a 2019 Ram (I've always been a gm truck lover) but these are so hot, and I love the hemi -any info you might have about them would be welcomed
Been a Ford guy all my life, kind of got bored and tired of dealing with these cam phasers. Just sold my king ranch and really looking into a Ram. Excellent video thanks a lot. My dad always owned rams and still has his 05 with 384,xxx miles. I think that speaks for itself. Thanks again!!!
I’ve had my 2012 for almost 10 years now. Getting ready for a cam swap and hell cat lifters at 170k miles. This trucks been damn good to me. Hoping to get another 170k out of it.
03 Ram. Tires- no big issue Seats- yes, clothe tears and the frame exposed Upper A arms w/ ball joints- 170k when i changed mine. Presently at 224k- no issues the manifold bolts. My conclusion is these are going to wear out and part of maintenance. These should not stop you from buying a Ram.
@@georgecastro6596 sure. Low miles? Here are the things I've dealt with. Upper A-arms Ball joints Ignition switch Replaced rear end, bearing went bad and tore up the differential. Both front wheel hubs. Most of those are due from normal wear and tear. Normal for the blending door in the dash to break, mine did. New rotors and condenser coil fan. I now have 224k. Still runs good.
Our family has an 08 (240K), 13 (115K) , and now a 19 Ram 1500. Bought each one new. We try to get 250K from a truck. The 08 and 13 have the 8-speed transmission. We knew about the upper and tie rod ends, so we kept the standard tires/wheel sizes and no lift. 08 had a 4WD issue this past winter, but turned out to be a relay. 13 has had no mechanical issues, but I am concerned about the manifold bolts on this one. Seat bolster issues occur in all trucks I have had. We started using some tough seat covers to protect them...right when we buy the vehicle. I also had a 96 Dodge 1500 I got new with the 360. We got 250K out of that one. Track bars replaced at 180K. A buddy needed it, so sold it to him. He took it to 350K. Rumor has it some high school kid is still driving it.
@@scottlaplantelaplante990 I have a 2014. The manifold bolts have to do with the casting of the manifolds. I only had 2 bolts break on the passenger side. drivers side has been fine. If bolts break use a die grinder to oblong the hole slightly so when the manifold expands it no longer pushes on the bolt and breaks it. had mine replaced about 2 years ago and no issues since the holes where bolts broke were enlarged. i currently have 71K on the vehicle.
Oh and 395hp 410lbs is way too much for these tires to handle...and I dont have a lead foot at all. In fact everyone calls me a grandma while driving lol.
I have a 2012 1500 with just over 200,000 miles and none of the main issues mentioned in this video has worn out on my truck. The only thing I’ve replaced is the alternator.
I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab. Had it for over 2 years now. Has 234,000 miles. I Put 30,000 Miles on it myself. No issues whatsoever except yesterday I sprung a leak in my radiator. No problem to fix myself, and low cost to take care of. I love my baby, she's been absolutely great..
My 2005 1500 has 278,500. on it now and is going pretty strong. Had to replace the radiator, air conditioner compressor, upper A arms with ball joints, lower ball joints, tie rod bearings, Shocks, ... Best tire I have found is the Michelin Defenders . Love my truck !
I bought a 2016 Dodge Laramie. The only problem I had was tires I replaced them with Michelin tires at 55000 miles. And done a complete brake job at 60 000 miles. Other than that it’s was a good truck. Traded it at 76000 miles for another Dodge Laramie. Love these trucks.
Best tire for my money has been the Toyo ATII. My 2014 2500 has 35/12.50/20's on stock wheels with a Rough Country leveling kit... Drives and rides fantastic.
Yeah the Toyo all terrains are amazing tires and last a long time! We put those on our 2005 and they were great! Let me know what you think of the other RAM mods on the channel when you get a chance too! 😎
Absolutely spot on! I had a 97, 08, and now a 17" 4x4 and yo nailed it, especially on the seat. I recommend installing a seat cover right after purchase.
Thats awesome Ed! When you get a chance be sure to check out the other RAM and Viper content on the channel! We are procharging the 2014 RAM and documenting the full build here too! 😎
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 also. In addition to the vinyl pillar decals wrinkling and breaking apart, I noticed that the rubber window sill moldings are warping, right below the pillars, on all 4 doors. I know it's a petty issue but I want my truck to look perfect. I've been binge watching your vids....great job....keep'em coming!
Thanks for your support on the channel! You can actually adjust the seals there with the phillips screw on the back. They are cranked on there from the factory pretty tight! Plenty more content on the way! 👍
I have a 2011 and have replaced the tie rods, upper and lower ball joints and wheel bearings, struts and shocks, water pump and of course the common broken bolts and exhaust gaskets, but it had 130k when all this was done so i suppose not to bad, much cheaper than buying a new truck... and by the way i did all the work myself except for the exhaust bolts, a local shop did this for $350..... and got the parts from RockAuto for all the other and saved a bunch....
im on my second RAM. Love these trucks. I traded my 06 with 212k on it and it was still running great. Had an 03 F150 Screw before my 06 ram and it didnt make it to 160k without massive issues. I now have 2016 with 32k and hoping to go past 212 and then some.
New to the RAM family but not to dodge. Just bought my fist RAM. 2015 RAM 1500, hemi 5.7,crew cab,65k miles, 1 owner. Moding it now. And I love it. Muffler delete next week, already sits at a decent height, tires are perfect, bed cover already but I’m looking at a rack system for camping.
I don't care who says what, I think these trucks are the dog's balls of trucks! I run a 2002 Ram 1500 truck here in the UK. (Yes, I know you are all cringeing at my fuel bills!), but it is in reality an economical truck! In terms of something that weighs nearly 2 tons and has a 4.7 V8 mill! I love it, the engineering is superb, like most American stuff, (I even have mostly American tools in my builder's kit). This truck is superb, it has definitely seen better days, mostly due to me creaming other cars at junctions etc and it gives me a hard on everywhere I drive it! Gets lots of admiring attention and all I can say is: Dodge rules!
Hell yeah! Good to see another RAM owner and truck running well! Make sure to check out the other videos on this channel. We are doing the full supercharger build to the truck and documenting everything! 🤘
Just goes to show you that European vehicles in general are a degree less reliable than American vehicles. Ram has the worst reliability out of the big 3 trucks makers... I still have a Dodge pickup...
grimsmith1 you uave a 1500 ram in the uk . wowzer l8ved there for three years and not once did i ever see a truck like this. I seen a hummer once and it looked so out of place
My 09 is only at 160k. Minor exhaust leak I haven't even looked for, and the side of the seat is gone from rubbing my big ass, but it's a great truck. Can't complain. 😉👍👍
I'll agree with the seat but my truck is getting fully modded performance wise. Supercharger should crank things up and make it interesting on the channel pretty soon! 👍
You dont have to keep it stock. The upper ball joint thing is actually common across all manufacturers and why most lift kits even small ones come with new Uni-balls. Heck using my 3" leveling kit on my ram I just went ahead and put on a pro comp UCA so I wouldnt have to worry about it. But also as far as the tie rods go maybe truck just isnt tall enough in the front but I've been running 35s for awhile now and they havent worn out.
@@anthonymanning1434 I mod whatever I get my hands on. Except for my camaro LS. Because this car is just to save money. Looking at buying an SS 1LE if everything works out after this move I'm doing like planned.
2009 Ram 1500 4.7L with 205,000 miles. All Maintenance done regularly. Only recent issue (other than worn out seat bolster) was front wheel hub assemblies started making noise due to worn out bearing. Replaced both for about $300 - did it myself in less than 90 minutes.
My tires wore out also. I have had 3 Rams and they all did that. My seats also did it. However....would not have anything but a bad ass 5.7 Hemi.....dual exhaust. I love my Ram.
I have a 2006. 148,000 miles front wheel bearing. 90,000 heater core. Radiator 80,000. Ball joints like you said. Seat same thing. My second dodge both were bought used. All in all very happy
The thing is I have never heard f a truck where parts don't wear out on a truck, parts wears out on all trucks or the company would go out of business.
I've owned my 2012 Big Horn since i drove it out of the showroom! Had a manifold bolt break around 40k miles. Otherwise no issues. I have custom rim/tires but kept them 20" like original. No issues.
Thank you for this video, I bought my first RAM1500 about 3 months ago. And We are extremely happy with it it’s an 2018 and as commercial and residential painter it really makes my job easy.
My brother has a 2014 ram 1500. He has had the exhaust manifold bolts replaced twice on his. It was somewhere in the 60,000 mile range. Thankfully he purchased an extended warranty plan when he bought the truck new. It covered up to 100,000 miles. He also has a few recalls for some of the safety systems. He had mentioned that his seatbelt may or may not hold you in an accident and there is a possibility that the airbags could kill you if they deploy. If you have not had that checked out on your truck, I would suggest taking it to a dealer and have them look it over.
An older man showed me his red cloth seats on his older chevy once..was amazed how they kept like new. His secret was using a towel. And since new ive used a towel on my 14 Ram with just 100k miles and yes, still like new.even on my 13 Longhorn leather seats. Got it with 75k and a lil discoloration on the leather. Now with over 200k and still exactly like the first day i got it.just my two cents
My grandfather did this on all of his Chevy trucks, something I remember while riding around with him. We still have his 97 Chevy stepside and seats are perfect.
I had a 1990 Volvo 760 turbo and a 98 S60 Volvo. Both had leather. I NEVER put armor-all on the leather but with every wash and vacuum and armor-all day (which was usually about every two weeks) put leather conditioner on everything leather. Both car's leather lasted forever until I sold them.
@ update I’ve had to replace my water pump and now I have to replace the spark plug gaskets due to oil on spark plugs and o2 sensor went out, evap code on bank 2 fml
I have a 2012 ram 1500 pick up 2 wheel drive .in mint cond... with almost 125.000 miles...it kept over heating recently I replaced the water pump that was a job as was the thermostat..its a V6 3.7...I bleed the system multipl times it last one week and kept over heating..I put a new electric fan in it it solved the problem...i found the fan in stock at napa for under 200.oo bucks 170.oo or 180.oo dodge dealers almost 600.oo
Salvage yard bro 50$ 😅 not always the best option but something simple like that u should blood long as u don't live in a wet place like Seattle or south east tx all the way to Florida or somethin
Had bad luck with my 4th gen. 118.000 miles and tons of issues electrical, interior parts broke or wearing out easily! Leaks aswell. Ditched it for a Tundra and couldn't be happier!
I’m a Dodge dealer mechanic since 1996 and I have to disagree with the upper ball joints wearing out. I can’t ever remember replacing an upper control arm on a Ram for a bad ball joint. Also the tie rod ends rarely go bad on these trucks. What you are absolutely right about is the HEMI exhaust manifold bolt issue. Also fairly common are lifter failures that destroy the camshaft.
Thanks Scott! The upper ball joint issues seem to be more prone on the vehicles with altered heights. Both the boots on my upper control arm bushings are broken at this point so I think they will fail shortly and my truck is stock ride height. My truck has almost 110k on it though so its not a surprise either. 😎
Well I couldn't tell you anything about a 4th Gen Dodge because I'm still on my second gen. I thought about getting a newer one but I just don't have the heart to get rid of the one that's been so good to me. At near 320,000 miles on the original motor I'm still getting around 16 miles per gallon and the only major issues I've ever had with the truck are cosmetic but I am slowly but surely putting it together I just put a new dashboard and it a couple days ago and some new front suspension components about 2 months ago. I have already purchased another 5.2 l so that whenever my original motor decides to take its last breath I will have a replacement motor on standby until I can get the original motor rebuilt
Thats awesome brother glad your truck has been lasting so long too! The 2nd Gen engines are bulletproof too! I've had a few of those as well and the engines lasted a long time! Thanks again for your feedback! Be sure to check out the other videos on this channel when you get a chance, we are supercharging this RAM and documenting the full build on the channel 👍
Mine got hit over a year ago, and the insurance company wanted to buy it off me for peanuts. I told them to pound sand, and got it fixed. It still runs great, and now with the rebuilt front end, stops and starts on a dime.
I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. Only thing I've had to do other than routine maintenance is the fuel vapor check valve in the gas tank failed about 2 years ago. Great truck with 59k miles gets 22mpgs on the highway amazing for a 4wd V8 truck.
I have an 01 1500 with 245000 mi. I am thinking about a crate engine, but it keeps running. Every so often I get a trouble code for cup misfire. But I change the plug and took on down the blacktop. Would like a new motor, but hate to throw this one in the trash just cause it's getting close to 300k.
Changing wheels. tires and lifting the truck will certainly change the front end geometry and accelerate wear on the suspension components and tires. I left my 2015 Tradesman stock and got 67,000 miles on the original Goodyear tires....
Funny the Rams are very well equipped and seem to hold up well despite the abundance of features they have over competitors. Best value in a truck IMO, and I own a Chev.
Thanks for the feedback brother! All the big three competing against eachother is benefiting us as consumers for sure! I agree the interiors on these trucks have come a long way and 2019 looks like all the big 3 are stepping it up again inside. 👍
Having all the same problems with my 2016 1500. Exhaust manifold bolts lasted 80k miles. Snapped off 2 on the driver's side. Replaced them with "upgraded" bolts. Will so long they last. Starting to get a rattle in my front end at 85k miles, so have to chase that down. The seat bolster has been a problem in Dodge trucks for years. My 2003 3500 with cloth seats and they failed at 100k miles. Replaced the seat cushion and wrapped the seat frame with thin foam and duct tape. That seemed to help for the next 100k miles.
Not trying to be contrary or anything, but...Things wear out depending on driving habits and such. I too had a 2009 and now drive a 2014, however I have had zero issues that you have. My five issues have been(in no particular order) fuel pump, wheel bearings, rust at the front panels of driver door(at less than 60 grand on both 2009 and 2014) leaking sunroofs, and by pass coolant valve. I love Dodge but they all have different issues.
Rams are simple to work on they are a mix of old and new technology that’s why you see more auto mechanics owning these trucks over Ford and Chevy. Even if you buy a high mileage Ram in great condition and had to throw an engine in it your still ahead of the game considering the price of a new truck. These are a bargain.
Thanks for the feedback brother! They have definitely been great trucks for me so far! Let me know what you think of the other RAM content on the channel when you get a chance! We have a lot of maintenance and mod videos on here for these trucks! 👍🙂
Nice video. I have a 2012 ram 1500. At 100k miles had to change a manifold bolt and my seat has now ripped at 117k. Oh well, I'm happy with how this truck has been. Those are the only two complaints and that's not even bad. I have 35s on her now for the past 15k miles and after turning off MDS with my programmer I am now getting around 16 mpg. So I cant even complain about that. Overall I love these rams!
Congrats on the truck Curtis! Check out the maintenance and modification playlists on this channel for a ton of content on these trucks as we document this truck from completely stock to fully supercharged!
I remember a mechanic who lived next door to me that owned Dodges. He kept on having to replace parts from the dealer. End up finding out that the new parts were already sloppy. So he purchased Moog aftermarket and they were fine. He said the tolerances from factory were terrible.
You are so right... I know about the exhaust manifold bolts... have already bought bigger tires/rims that are fit for mud/snow, which I think the key is to grease the tie rods with really good lithium grease. Need to buy headers and running boards... love the electric running boards, but buying a tonneau cover first ($1000). For really good stainless steel headers is about $600+ to fit stock. powder coated is near $1000. BTW: I have a 2019 RAM Laramie 1500 4x4 and love it regardless of those issues that can happen. It's got plenty of power 5.7 350 cu. a tow package and leather interior.
I have a 2015 dodge 1500 4 inch lift and I have a clunking sound on my front left and back right when I tune or go over smaller bumps. I think it might be the tie rod ends. How would you know if your tie rod ends are worn out or not?? Great videos btw, nice to find someone with the same vehicle that talks like a regular person and not a rocket scientist when explaining stuff. Keep it up dude. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i have a 2010 1500 5.7...manifold bolts already done once..tires, yes...door trim peeling yes, glad you showed how to get rid of it...tie rods and ball joints yes...also wheel bearings/hubon mine...pita. thanks. for your comments. Im in canada running 17s (cheaper than 20s) winter michelins and summer 17s goodyear wranglers...ok for now, but since they only get 6 months use per year they are ok. truck has 164000 km so about 100k miles. Seats are cloth but are still in good shape...i lift my butt...mins has a paint issue but that is covered by a lifetime warranty...paint just peels off..
I have a 2009 Ram Sport. It has 230,00+ miles on it and none of the things you mentioned have given me any problems at all. Did loose a front left side wheel bearing which I replaced with no problem at all. LHL….
I put almost 250,000 miles on a 2009. A great many of those miles were offroad and on poorly maintained forest roads. I did not have a single front end component wear out! I never even had to change the shocks, lol. It was an amazing truck. I had to change the fan clutch at 200,000 miles, a/c compressor around the same time, and water pump went out at 240,000 miles. Fast forward to now, I have a 2019 and at 36,000 miles the stock Toyo At II's were worn and replaced. It is much lower in the front than my 2009 so installed some Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks to lift up the front a bit. In doing so discovered one of the front shocks was leaking and a rear that seemed to not be holding any pressure.
I absolutely love my Ram truck. This is all just common sense and maintenance stuff. Of course if you add big tries etc., it will stress stock components.
Having to replace the whole control arms just to replace a ball joint isnt common. Its retarded. That goes for both the lower and upper ball joints. Price for one lower control arm is about 400. And that doeant include the labor.
@@cwstewartjr1973 also replacing exhaust manifold and or bolts commonly is not normal... Why do they still keep making these manifolds the same if it's a common issue I will never understand stuff like that
I purchased a 2014 Ram 1500 Sports 7 months ago, everything was fine until it started raining found out my windshield leaks and destroyed my whole electrical system. Been in the shop for the past week and a half! Had a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 no problems in the four years I had it
The vinyl tape on my 2012 was so bad. I took it off after watching your video on how to take it off. Then I found out the paint beneath the tape was so bad. I recently covered it up again with carbon fiber wrap. It looks amazing.
I have a 2016 4x4. So far, at 30k miles, I did replace the original Goodyear’s with Michelins. The GY were terrible as you said. I’ve had a bad fuel gauge sensor as well. That’s it so far.
I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with only 28000 miles on it, I have the TIPM and headlight harness cable, rear tail lamps get filled with water and other issues that a lot of other owners have experienced as well......the manufacturer will not stand behind the replacement or fixing these problems. Bought the truck with less than 2 miles new. Pretty sad that Chrysler won't stand behind their products!!!
I'll keep my eye out for the ball joints and tie rods with the 4's on the truck. And yes those tires are trash, I went all terrain for my factory wheels. Good info as usual
I have a 2014 ram 1500 regular cab with not even 30,000 miles on it yet and already had to replace the tires and upper control arms. Only mod I did to the truck was 2' 4' drop. Also had to replace the EVAP Purge Solenoid
Love the vids! Thanks for the info about manifold bolts. I’ll in the process of upgrading to BBK Shorty Headers using the Stage 8 locking bolts you mentioned in a previous vid. It’s fun following you on your journey. Keep up the good work!
@@strongfamilyforever5113 long tubes are alot more work but if you're ok with that great. The shortys fit in place of stock manifolds makes job done alot faster
Ive noticed the window seals wear out after 4years, plus the two rubber seals on the roof have already started to dry rot and close to coming off. One last thing is the hood window spray nozzles dry rot and both of mine snapped off under the hood.
Great video. I like the honesty. My original tires were gone at 51,000. I am about to change my second set at 126,000. Michelins. The only other issue I have had to date is the black tape as you describe. This is my second Ram and I wont own anything else. I ran my 05 to 232,500 and traded it off in 2014 for a 2013. So far only normal maintenance items!!
Thanks Gordon! These trucks have been good to me also so I can't complain! Check out the other videos on the channel for our RAMS that cover maintenance and upgrades and let me know what you think too! 😁
I live in ny and the back fender wells rust out.I bought a used 2007 ram 2500 with no rust. The stickers were still on the frame. But within six weeks the paint started to bubble and it didn’t take long for it to rust through.I had a 98 ram1500 that didn’t rust like that.
I got 60k miles on the stock Goodyear SRA's ! Got a new set and they wouldn't balance right, had to try something else .. And my exhaust manifold bolts DID snap! Made a wicked tick until warmed up, thankfully replaced under warranty. 2013 Ram 1500.
In my case, I’ve got a 14 Ram 1500. First thing for me was those crap tires around 45k miles. Seconds was front brakes and rotors around 55k. Third was the exhaust manifold bolt, but I still havent addressed that. Fourth was brakes and rotors all around and another set of tires around 90k. 5th was my water pump went out around 98k. I’m at 108k now with still a very sturdy solid truck. No other issues
Awesome video! Thanks for making this. Answered a lot of my questions without having to ask. What rims do have this truck? Looking to purchase but dont wanna higher or lower the truck
Thanks Edwin! Check out the other videos on this channel I have some videos specific to these wheels and the whole build! They are hellcat reps though 😎
I have a 2019 and the exhaust manifold bolts are still an issue. I have 53k miles on it and it just starting making the exhaust leak noise on cold starts. I'm taking it in in next week for replacements.
2011 With 210,000 KM or 130,000 Miles I’ve had the Evap Pump go, the fan pully and obviously wear items like brakes and tires but other than that no issues whatsoever.
Yep, you called it...98k on my Ram, and exhaust leak...pulled the manifold and the front stud was snapped off. Got lucky, it unscrewed by hand. New studs and a gasket and running again. You did not mention the O2 sensors. Three out of the four on my 2003 Ram went bad after 65k miles. Guess what? The Bosch sensors from the auto parts store won't work! Dodge uses their own with a different ohm rating, and they are $100 each! And there are four of them! And they don't come off easy! Oh, and one is different than the other three, so don't mix them up. Who does that? Dodge!
Got a 2011 ram with over 400,000km has original ball joints and tie rod ends and the truck is levelled with over size tires, never had a problem with the truck other then normal maintenance.
Bought my 2015 Ram 2500 on 6/2015 in Long Beach Ca.. I had to replace the upper/lower ball joints 10/2016 at just over 36000 miles. The Firestones Transforce from the factory wore out fast, maybe from the rotation with bad ball joints. Not sure. I called the dealer to let them know about the ball joints & also I had an intermittent vibration in the rear of the truck that no one could figure out. Truck was all stock. I have literally baby'd this truck because I'm an older man and I stay on the black top 99.5% of the time. The only thing I had pulled with it was a 2000# utility pipe trailer maybe 6 times. The Dealer Warranty guy told me in a snotty way "well you must've been rough on it to wear out the ball joints that fast" He also told me that they probably wouldn't cover the ball joints even if truck was still below the warranty mileage. Wow! $50,000+ purchase! That kind of pissed me off and I told him that this will be the last damn truck I buy from them. I bought 4 new stock 18" Michelin Defenders and still had the vibration. I bought a 2" leveling kit w/ Bilstein 5100's .....now the vibration is gone. Other than that, now at 74000 miles the tires still have plenty of tread and I do love the truck. No other problems at all.
Hey Michael you should take it to the Orange Coast RAM dealer. They seemed way better when I dropped into that dealership and had some warranty work done. Give it a try and let me know!
The reason I bought my truck in Long Beach was that I was visiting an in-law. I live in AZ. I was driving around looking at the Silverado's at Chevy dealerships as I always wanted one. Chevrolet wouldn't deal with me very good so I left. Went to a Dodge dealer and they did. My trucks already way past the mileage now for waranty work. But like I say I've had zero problems since then. I tried out a Silverado last year and after driving my Ram 2500 I just didn't like the Chevy Silverado but jmo. I thought it was smaller & not as much room and power wise I liked my Cummins better.
I've always kept up maintenance on every truck I've owned which has been more than several over my lifetime and I never had a ball joint go out at that low of mileage. The wheel bearings on mine were fine just the ball joints. I replaced the ball joints with Moog/Mopar that seem to be doing great. Have you seen problems with wheel bearings at low mileage on Rams?
I am on my 3 4th gen. My 2009 1500 slt had 160000, my 2013 1500 sport had 180000, and now i have a 2018 2500 mega cab limited with 20000. I personally had zero issues with anything on the trucks. Never even replaced a single part. I think the only thing that bothered me was the antenna plastic surround faded. haha I always have side steps though.
Damn thats awesome! Glad your trucks are holding up well too! Check out some of the RAM upgrade, maintenance, and mod videos on the channel too when you get a chance 👍
I now understand why I see so many of these on the road vs ford and Chevy. I’ve always been a bit of a ford fan but I’m starting to get tired of all the tech the pit in them. It’s totally unreliable. And the geekoboost is junk. Seems like the ram is simpler. Hopefully the 2019s are still good too.
Thanks Breydon! We are putting this old girl to the test too and are showing the full supercharge build on this truck on the channel. We've been doing all the preliminary mods to get it ready and are about ready to start bolting up the supercharger! Let me know what you think of the other videos on the channel when you get a chance! 👍
I have a 2016 Big Horn. Great truck lots of power but shocks started clanking at 50k. I put new Monroes on and it rides like a dream and very quiet now.
2005 Quad Cab SRT-10 with 63000 miles drove it from TX to AK and back. Stationed in Fort Wainwright it was -47° and my Dodge never failed even on the ice and snow up there. We'll see how the TX heat does now. The power steering lines busted my last winter up there, other than that I love my Ram. It's my first I've always been a Chevy guy.
Thats awesome! 2wd and 500hp up there must have been interesting in AK snow lol. The oil lines on my 05 SRT-10 leak too and its a common problem. They have bad crimps on them I would upgrade to some earls fittings and hose and be done with it cause replacing with new OEM will just lead to the same thing. It's a common problem with the engines on the viper cars too.
Hell yeah thats awesome Mark! Be sure to check out some of the other videos on the channel when you get a chance to! We have a lot of RAM upgrade and maintenance content and new videos posted daily 😎
My 2011 Laramie longhorn has 200,000 miles on it. All I've changed are wheel bearings, alternator, and water pump. My seats and ball joints look new still
Just got an 09 Ram 1500 with 98k miles on it. Noticed after driving it for 2 weeks that it makes a ticking sound when I first turn it on. Apparently the exhaust manifold bolts have been broken. At least I know now that its pretty common and not a huge deal. Warranty should cover the repair.
Thanks for the feedback on the video brother! Definitely not big issues but seem to be somewhat common! Check out the other Dodge videos on the channel when you get a chance! 😁
I own a 2003 ram 1500 that I put 309,000 miles on and still runs great but I did have to replace the ball joints on it and put a clutch in it during the 14 years I've owned it. And of course tires but it's been a super truck. Good video
Hell yeah thats awesome David! Stick around on the channel I'm documenting the whole build of this truck and we have a supercharger kit about to be bolted up! 🤘
All the factory tires for every make and model suck. The vehicle manufacture has the tire company make them as soft as possible for a comfy ride during a test drive. Plus there hoping you come back to the stealership and buy tires from them.
Tyler you are totally wrong. There is no relationship between tire companies and manufacturers in the fashion younststed. The manufacturers buy in bulk to keep the price down. The only time they collaborated together is if there are suspension requirement on performance type vehicles
The level sensor on my 16 Rebel went out and am now in the process of changing it out. I was told that they go out pretty often and need to replaced with an upgraded unit along with the fuel pump while you have the bad off.
Be sure to check out the other RAM Maintenance, Upgrade, and Performance videos on this channel! We are also working on project HellRAM and supercharging this 100k mile truck and documenting the full build on the channel 👍👍👍
BoostedMotorsports
Are you thoughtful of getting into an accident with that bad small overlap result on that truck? Whe're talking at around a common 40mph
How often did you apply leather conditioner to the seats?
BoostedMotorsports where did you get the wheels? Do they make them for a 2nd gen?
BoostedMotorsports what are the size of those rims n who makes them ???
The tire n wheel hook up are a 💯
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Sport and my EPS rack and pinion broke on me yesterday!
Check out some of the other RAM videos on the channel when you get a chance and let us know what you think too 😎
@ilan I would always avoid rust, and for 3800 bucks, I bet your can find something better.
I have a 2012 ram 1500 it’s very nice especially with the towing package
@@TheAngryPatriot I doubt that with $3800 he'll get anything better
My 2004 Dodge Ram only has 94k miles. still daily it.
I enjoy my 2013 ram. Although having issue with remote start
2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn luxury package. Love it. Solid , and a Mans truck
@@kauaikoloa4317 girls like trucks too! I'm about to purchase a 2019 Ram (I've always been a gm truck lover) but these are so hot, and I love the hemi -any info you might have about them would be welcomed
@@kellybellemk1718 I.. Love.. my... TRUCK!!! Lol
I agree! These engines are strong for the most part!!
I used to be a Ford guy. Went to ram 30 years ago. Still driving ram to this day.
I'm old enough to remember when new vehicles came some of the best tires you could get .
They’re all spec’d for minimal rolling resistance now. So most OEM half-ton rubber is paper-thin.
I’ve had my 2012 for almost 10 years now. Getting ready for a cam swap and hell cat lifters at 170k miles. This trucks been damn good to me. Hoping to get another 170k out of it.
How much do those lifters go for?
Mine too. Bought new, has 233000. No problems.
Why do the cam swap and hellcat lifters? What does it do? Is it expensive?
03 Ram.
Tires- no big issue
Seats- yes, clothe tears and the frame exposed
Upper A arms w/ ball joints- 170k when i changed mine.
Presently at 224k- no issues the manifold bolts.
My conclusion is these are going to wear out and part of maintenance. These should not stop you from buying a Ram.
so 03 Ram is worth it ?? im thinking about buying one in a couple days
@@georgecastro6596 sure. Low miles? Here are the things I've dealt with.
Upper A-arms
Ball joints
Ignition switch
Replaced rear end, bearing went bad and tore up the differential.
I ve changer everything he said... Its all wear and tear like anything else ive hit a pole and a car still runs motor is fine. Good truck
@@scottlaplantelaplante990 I have a 2014. The manifold bolts have to do with the casting of the manifolds. I only had 2 bolts break on the passenger side. drivers side has been fine. If bolts break use a die grinder to oblong the hole slightly so when the manifold expands it no longer pushes on the bolt and breaks it. had mine replaced about 2 years ago and no issues since the holes where bolts broke were enlarged. i currently have 71K on the vehicle.
they dont call them goodforayear tires for nothing
Thaenatos not even a year lol
The tires they put on at the factory and the one's you buy at the store are different.
My Goodyear RS-As got 28000 easy babying miles on my Ram, wouldn't have another set.
🤣
Glad to hear it Chris! 💪😎
I have a 2012 Ram bought brand new and didn’t have to change break pads until 120,000 miles .
Hello, have you had any other issues? How is it holding up?
My 2005 ram has been with me since 2005 lol never had any issues only issue I ever had in 14 years was my fuel pump
Throttle lag on my 2018 is painful. Not a sales pitch but these trucks should come with a Pedal Commander, stock.
The roller on the lifters on hemi seizes an wipes out the camshaft. Common on 09-2017
Not common, is a known issue but the vast majority of Hemis don't have that issue.
i have '01 and '11 RAMs. yeah the second Gen. 5.9 are gas whores but it is the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned.
I have a 2003 with the 4.7L engine. Reliable engine even if it's not too powerful and is a little thirsty....but I have the quad cab...big truck.
I have a 2009 ram with 211,000 miles and everything's been great. No problems with the upper ball joint or the rods. Bought it brand new
My 09 is only at 160k. Minor exhaust leak I haven't even looked for, and the side of the seat is gone from rubbing my big ass, but it's a great truck. Can't complain. 😉👍👍
note to self keep truck stock and dont drag ass acrosss seat great vid i have a 17 ram

Glad to hear your RAM working well too!!!! Check out the other videos for our trucks on this channel too when you get a chance! 👌
We just got a 2019. Its pretty badass. Congrats
I have a 2009 with 115000 and no problems ever happened yet you talked about. Maybe some day. Thanks
My issues with my 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX4 Crew Cab.
1. Front outer intermediate cv axle shaft support bearings going out(non lifted stock tire size)
2. All E-Brake components seized
3. Tie rods (non lifted stock tire size
4. Black plastic wrap peeling
5. Exhaust manifold to exhaust flange bolts breaking off completely so constant exhaust tick.
6. Exhaust heat shield nuts coming off.
I will always use a towel on seats that get sat on daily.

I have a 2004 5.7 liter Ram. Original owner. 121 k miles. Only custom exhaust. Change fluids and brake pads. That's it 👍
I’m a Dodge dealer mechanic since 1996 and I have to disagree with the upper ball joints wearing out.
Yeah you have to be careful with insurance companies these days! Glad you got it all sorted out though! 👍
Yeah those old 5.2 and 5.9 engines are tough as nails too!
run it till it blows
Yeah I agree, it is a good time to buy a truck!
This guy nailed it, but add on the Front Control Module causing only one headlight to work.
Thanks Kevin! Be sure to check out the other RAM and Mopar videos on the channel! Would love to get your feedback on those videos too! 👍
Everything you stated was exactly point on!!! I have a 2017 with 103,000 miles & have caught nothing but pure hell.

@Dale Ross lol, so why are you even commenting here? I would take the opinion of a reasonable man over an ass, any day...
Dale Ross If you’re going to compare ram trucks to Glock handgun’s I would take that as a high compliment to ram trucks LOL.
Thats not bad at all!!!! 😎🤘

just basic maintenance is all you need. Flush it when its time but those engines are unstoppable.
i have a 2016 stl i hate it and cant wait till the day i get take it back to the dealer when my lease is up
I remember a mechanic who lived next door to me that owned Dodges. He kept on having to replace parts from the dealer. End up finding out that the new parts were already sloppy. So he purchased Moog aftermarket and they were fine. He said the tolerances from factory were terrible.
U forgot the starter goes out a lot especially on 2010-2015 trucks
I have a 6inch lift and mine does the same thing and my time rods are new with the kit. I think it's something else. Did you upgrade your upper arms?
i have a 2010 1500 5.7...manifold bolts already done once..tires, yes...door trim peeling yes, glad you showed how to get rid of it...tie rods and ball joints yes...also wheel bearings/hubon mine...pita. thanks. for your comments.
My GM truck had the exact same 5 problems. Except ball joint can be changed in the arm not the whole arm like Dodge.
When I did upper balljoints on my 08 Silverado I had to do the whole control arm
2009’s hemi-showcase 1500’s are probably the best ones and worth the investment
I have a 2009 Ram Sport. It has 230,00+ miles on it and none of the things you mentioned have given me any problems at all. Did loose a front left side wheel bearing which I replaced with no problem at all. LHL….
I mean every truck manufacturer has mechanical issues. Some more than others.
Fords and Chevys have problems with broken manifold bolts too.
@@davidalbertson6690 I've owned F-150s since 2005. I've never heard of any manifold bolts breaking, nor experienced any
@@davidalbertson6690 Excellent post, thanks 👍
" i mean"
Had a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 no problems in the four years I had it
Good video and honest. The big tires and lift make a lot of sense why your first truck things wore out faster. Keep it up!
Thanks Anthony I appreciate it! Plenty of content on the way! 👍
The vinyl tape on my 2012 was so bad. I took it off after watching your video on how to take it off. Then I found out the paint beneath the tape was so bad. I recently covered it up again with carbon fiber wrap. It looks amazing.
Yeah ive heard some of them are bad paint underneath but wrapping it with something nicer works too! 😎
If I bought this new the first thing I would change out would be a better quality bolt for the exhaust manifold, while they are still easy to change.
Yeah thats not a bad idea at all! They need to fix this from the factory!
I have a 2016 4x4. So far, at 30k miles, I did replace the original Goodyear’s with Michelins. The GY were terrible as you said. I’ve had a bad fuel gauge sensor as well. That’s it so far.
The carpet under the gas pedal wears out fast! Hahaa
🤣
😂😂😂😂
Exactly where my heel sits is a hole in the carpet.
mats
hahhahahaaaaa
Thanks brother I appreciate your support on the channel! 🤙
I have a 2014 ram 1500 regular cab with not even 30,000 miles on it yet and already had to replace the tires and upper control arms. Only mod I did to the truck was 2' 4'
drop. Also had to replace the EVAP Purge Solenoid
Must look nice with that 2/4 drop though brother 👍
Love the vids! Thanks for the info about manifold bolts. I’ll in the process of upgrading to BBK Shorty Headers using the Stage 8 locking bolts you mentioned in a previous vid. It’s fun following you on your journey. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Edgar! I'm showing a video on wrapping the shorty headers to keep underhood temps down also so make sure to keep an eye out for that vid too! 😁
Jus saying check out frostbite and incredible hemi bro they both say the only way to go is long tube headers
Why do the headers you put on cost so much more that the BBKs? I cant seem to find them for the price you paid. Cheapest I can find is like 650
@@strongfamilyforever5113 long tubes are alot more work but if you're ok with that great.
I got 89000km out of my stock original Goodyear tires, I thought that was pretty good
Thats pretty good Sheldon! Might be also they don't last as long in the high heat south of the border 😁
Depends how you drive though... If you're a lead foot I could see them wearing out fast.
Lower rockers rust out insanely fast. They make aftermarket covers for these that look great and protect and will cover up rusted rockers.
Thanks for the review. Yes!!! I replaced my stock Goodyear tires at about 25,000 mi. Terrible tires!!!
I got 60k miles on the stock Goodyear SRA's ! Got a new set and they wouldn't balance right, had to try something else .. And my exhaust manifold bolts DID snap! Made a wicked tick until warmed up, thankfully replaced under warranty. 2013 Ram 1500.
Love this type of information keep it going man
In my case, I’ve got a 14 Ram 1500.
2011 With 210,000 KM or 130,000 Miles
I’ve had the Evap Pump go, the fan pully and obviously wear items like brakes and tires but other than that no issues whatsoever.
Thats awesome Dawson! Glad to hear yours is running strong too! 👍
Dawson Bradbury just bought a 2011 hemi sport, great truck
Dodge!
Your tires are bad ass man. Thanks for sharing this. I'm considering getting a Ram 1500 (2014-2016 models)
How much did those tires and rims run you
Got a 2011 ram with over 400,000km has original ball joints and tie rod ends and the truck is levelled with over size tires, never had a problem with the truck other then normal maintenance.
I thought it was smaller & not as much room and power wise I liked my Cummins better.
wheel bearings. I'm a Mopar mech . I also own 2/ of these trucks . just like anything you must keep up w maintenance , or pay 4/ it later .
BoostedMotorsp
I have CatSkins on my seats, best investment
Good idea Robert! 👍
I have a 150 300.000 miles no problems. Synthetic oil
My seats and ball joints look new still
Leave it OEM.. (Stock)
I think that’s all dodges. I’ve fixed everything you just mentioned with my 2004 dakota.
Tyler Murphy...very good comment, facts!
Will try my best to put Michelin on it when it's time... $$$
Good point Tyler!
Tyler Murphy My 08 ram's tires lasted for 82,000 miles. The set that came from the factory. I thought that was pretty good.
