- What’s up everybody. In todays video, I will be discussing why your Ram 2500 dash outside temperature might be reading -40 or some other crazy inaccurate number. It’s usually the ambient air Temperature sensor. Don’t worry, it’s an easy fix.

Thanks for the advice! My ambient temperature sensor on my truck was broken for over a year and just replaced it today-though the change in temperature from -40°C to current temperature was practically instant the moment I put the new one in and I’m happy about it!

Thanks for this video. I’ve been noticing an issue with my ambient temperature sensor, but didn’t have an engine light. Literally as I’m sitting in my truck watching this video the engine light came on and when I checked the code, that’s exactly what it was for. Now I know how to fix it. Much appreciated!

We learned the hard way about this sensor. I replaced my 2012 Ram 2500 with all black mirrors and placed my chrome mirrors on my dads 2014 Ram 2500. Not knowing his sensor was in the mirrors and mine was in the grill.
lucky us, they had an adapter we could update his mirrors with the sensor. Not sure if your wifes truck had heated seats, but his seats were constantly on HOT due to truck not knowing the weather lol
I will check mine out. Thanks for advice. Mine says 34c. Which is about 95f. So with remote start my seat warmers Nd steering will warmer wont activate! And it's cold out here in Ontario . I'll give it a try . Thanks
yeah iam from central Pa this weather is getting old. My work truck is a dodge 5500 now i know if it acts up with this problem i know what to do. thanks
question is can I buy just the clip that holds the sensor in the mirror? Dealership says I have to buy an entire new mirror assembly. Mine was hit by something that flew off a truck. Clip part is broken and the sensor now hangs out of the mirror.
If it’s broke you may need a new mirror
I replaced my driver mirror a week ago.. got in it this morning to 185F on my dash along with my check engine light being on... my question is could this also cause my front windows to not work? Rear windows work fine
I doubt the tempt sensor is causing your windows to malfunction but you could have cut/pinched wire from the side wall at your feet going to the door, or could just be a bad connection somewhere.
@DieselLegiance turns out it was.. I was able to unplug sensor and it read accurately for a bit now I'm at -40 but my windows work again..

Possibly, but if not, try to look in your owners, manual, or online for the location of your ambient temp sensor

I’m not 100% sure but most Rams have the ambient temp sensor hidden behind a tiny panel cover on the bottom of the driver side mirror.
My truck wont start or anything but it says incorrect key and -40 any ideas?
Negative 40 can be your temp sensor but incorrect key could be a fob issue.
Drivin into work this am in snow and my outside temp was going up and down from -29 back up to 42 then check engine light came on
These sensors are so finicky and a big pain anymore. My wheel speed sensors trigger codes when it rains or snows on my F350. Check your sensors first…
@@DieselLegiance Of course. Yeah my sensor is on my drivers side mirror. Going to clean it up and see if it works/or replace it.
Mine is 10 degrees off. Is that normal? It’s showing 66 degrees but the temperature is 76 outside.
Ehh could be an issue but maybe not. If it’s always 10 degrees off and never goes back to normal your exterior temp sensor could be failing. Sometimes you can just disconnect the sensor and clean it off and that may help.

Exterior censor is usually in the driver side exterior mirror on the bottom.
Changed the sensor and still is reading -40 after a week of driving. 😢
Hmmm maybe a bad sensor? Maybe try disconnecting the battery to let the computer reset? Otherwise take to a dealer to have them check for something else.

@@Ramon_wassup392 any luck my sport is having this issue got a mopar sensor but stuck at -40
-40 is as low as it will read, which means an open circuit. Check the connection in the door panel. You've got to remove the inner panel to gain access to the connector.
