Iguess comments speak forthem self's I worked for alot of famous race car drivers and was there mechanic just a FYI I dought it but maybe if u Google it if u no how what engine we used and ur showing ur age this isn't the 60tes anymore
Make sure the mechanic is correct in the assessment about the engine blowing. At 400K, it is certainly plausible to have a run-out/blown engine, but it is also plausible to for that thing to be good for many more miles even towing depending on how it has been worked.
I bought a 2021 tundra platinum with the 5.7 iforce. I installed radium oil catch can and genuine cooling transmission system that will out last a Cummins and the maintenance will be cut in half. I almost bought a Cummins, I do not tow enough to justify it.
@@tannerpickens5356 Nice purchase. Car manufacturers are moving towards high-strung smaller engines such as the 3.4L turbo V6 in the 2024 Lexus GX instead of the more modestly worked larger V8 in the 2023.
Have owned 6 Dodge trucks since the 1970s. All gave good service. No major issues. Currently have a 2019 Ram 1500 quad cab with 28k miles. Bighorn with 5.7 Hemi. So far just regular oil changes and misc items. I’m 70 yrs old so it’ll probably be the last truck I buy.
Bought my first Ram in '22. It's the best driving, and quietest truck I've ever owned. And the ride is amazing. Thanks for the tip to not idle the Hemi for too long.
I got a 23 bighorn crew cab night edition. Absolutely agree about the quiet cab and smooth ride. It’s much better than the wife’s rav4 xle. It’s cab is loud u hear tons of road noise.
I'm hoping to buy a 19 Laramie Night edition. ...sales manager is a friend and let me borrow for 5 days...sweet ride man, hoping to purchase today or 2maro 🤞🏾
I bought a new 2001 Ram, the last 318! Had 228k on it when I gave it to my son in law. Only thing done to it was replace the air compressor, brakes, and tires. He got rid of it two years later with about 260k, still puring along. Last big 3 truck I bought.
We purchased our Ram new in 2012. 2011 model. We also have The 318. I believe that engine Premiered in 1964. If it's not Broken don't fix it. Glad I didn't Get the hemi. Bet you are too.😊😊
@@billbertagnoli4226production of the 318 unfortunately ended in 2002. You would have the 4.7. An engine that started life at American Motors before Chrysler bought the company in 87. Good engines, provided they are taken care of with regular oil changes.
@@billbertagnoli4226My Hemi is fine. The cam/ lifter issue hasn't been a problem. I think that only happens to people who idle it for long periods of time and seldom open it up on the highway. There's a lot of goons on message boards yapping about their "Hemi Tick" when all they have is an exhaust manifold leak. I love the Hemi. Lots of power. However, the Hemi Charger and Challenger engines were awful for a period around 2010. The timing chains were too frail for the added stress when they went with cylinder deactivation and would often snap around 50k miles or so. Truck engines never had that problem because the chain is meatier.
People talk smack about Rams as if every brand doesn’t have issues. I currently have a 2014 crew cab sport that I’ve had since new and now has 160k miles. I’ve replaced the normal wear items (battery, water pump, brakes etc) and done fluid changes and she runs perfectly fine.
@@davec.3198 i got 2 ones got 180k and 155k. The 155k is original trans, half the miles are plowing and pulling. Both been great. I have no loyalty towards any make, theyve pissed me off equally.
@lujano099 I have a friend that has a diesel ram with 80k and it has infixable electrical issues. Also a gasser that's 3 years old, 80k miles and trans is bad.
Ya, lots of crap talk on Rams. I love my Ram 1500 Classic 4x4. Perfect so far at 90k. Not a single issue ever. Ride and handles better than the last Chevy and Ford 1/2 tons I've owned.
I have a 2013 Ram Bighorn. 98,000 miles. Absolutely love it. No codes, no problems. Best riding vehicle I've ever had. Previously owned a 2002 Ram until 2017 and never put a part on the engine besides a water hose as a preventative measure. They're good trucks.
Still driving a 2011 The bad- exhaust manifolds had to be replaced around 80 thousand miles The gas tank will belch up gas if you attempt to fill it completely The fuel relay started to act up around 110k- 120k miles. Installed a bypass relay around the old one and it's fine. A tire sensor went out at 150k miles. Had to replace the heater core/ evaporator core at 148k. The heat was fine but it was better just to replace it all. Labor will get you because they have to remove the whole dash to get to it. Everything else works fine I still have the same radiator, engine, transmission, and transfer case. All that works like it should.
‘17 Ram owner, approaching 100k miles. Couldn’t be happier with the truck. Only complaints are the parking brakes, which will seize up on you if you live up north. Doesn’t matter if you use them a lot or not. Haven’t replaced them yet, but going to try and tackle that on my own. Another one is the ZF transmission, which is a little sluggish on cold winter mornings in the first few gears. They’re supposed to be great transmissions, so that kind of bugs me, but it shifts fine once it warms up a little. The Hemi is a great engine, just have to maintain it and don’t idle it like a fleet vehicle.
Hemi have a big camshaft lubrification design flawn (I know by experience 😢). So, around 200k kilometers Hemi tick start to occurr with fuel consumption raising year by year…
Best truck I ever owned and I've owned everything out there over the years. Change the oil, spark plugs, shocks (as needed), fill with gas and you'll have the best stock rocket of the pickup world .
As a retired OEM chassis engineer, I can tell you nowadays almost none of the problems come from the assembly plant, they come from poor design or part manufacturing. When is the last time you had an issue that was due to the vehicle not being put together correctly?
I have a 2008 dodge Ram truck that I brought new. Everyone in my family has driven it. It set for six years without being drove. We put a new fuel pump and tires, changed the fluids. The air and heat still working. I think it drives just as good as the day I drove it off the dealership lot. It has 220,000 miles on it. It is a great truck.
My RAM is the best truck I've ever owned. I've had a couple of Silverados and one Ford. The interior is hands down best in class. It rides as nice as a Cadillac and can tow any small to midsize trailer.
My 2011 RAM 5.7 hemi will pass 300,000 miles by the end of 2024. Not a single engine, transmission or drive train issues. Only items that are supposed to wear out have done so. Brakes, shocks, battery and alternator ect. This will be my 3rd RAM/Dodge truck to exceed 300k miles. A 1983 and a 1999. Maintenance is the key to any vehicle lasting a very long time.
Hey Scotty. I have the option to buy a 2018 Ram Hemi with 4500 miles (our company truck off lease so I know the mileage to be true) would it be worth putting a high volume oil pump on it? Replacement oil pump is only $200ish. I have seem some people claiming the high volume oil pump for the Hellcat solves the cam wear problem? Any input on this?
Lifter bores have an oil gallery that feeds the lifter bores and cam. Not splash lubrication dependant. Needle bearings in the lifter rollers lock up/wear and then proceed to wipe/eat the cam. 2017 and up needle bearing size increased. Still wouldnt idle excessivly though and keep mds disabled by being in sport mode.
That oil gallery is OFFSET and not directly over the lifters and cam so at idle the oil does not splash around enough to lubricate the lifters and cam. These Hemi engines are Defective and have been like this for at least 15 years. Sure you can rebuild it but Why ?; it will simply do it again. Chrysler should have recalled them all with an updated design but then they'd go bankrupt. Shame on Scotty for making excuses.
They’ll do 300000 miles if you don’t idle. The claim is that if you put a high flow oil pump then you can idle but if you typically idle a lot then try another make with its own problems.
Just sold my 05 Durango with 5.7 hemi at 193k miles. I had a lot of confidence selling to single mom, knowing she was getting a solid rig at friends and family discount.
Problem is, those Mexican batteries need some tequilla poured in them and a fresh lime squeezed over them when installed to initialize the chemical processes and insure long strong service. 🤣
I Bought a New 2016 Ram Big horn 5.7litre truck and it has 110,000 miles now! Replaced water pump and Fuel gauge sensor at 99k ! Has been the most comfortable and best driving I’ve ever owned!
My 2017 Ram 1500 (130000 miles) still has the original battery and no issues, even in this cold Canadian climate. I do keep a booster pack with me just in case because I know after 7 years of use, it's days are numbered.
Hemi have a big camshaft lubrification design flawn (I know by experience 😢). So, around 200k kilometers Hemi tick start to occurr with fuel consumption raising year by year… Don’t do iddle with them!
I have been driving one for 3 years now, no problem whatsoever. I bought mine brand new in 2021. It’s a Laramie. Beautiful truck. Stop yapping about vehicles you don’t own or drive.
I bought a 2017 Ram last year with 132k miles on it, runs beautiful I regularly change the oil and currently we are at 143k miles. Haven't had major repairs on it yet, the front struts are making some noises but I think that's just because I live on a dirt road. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.
3 Rams..... 1995 ram 1500 w/ 245K miles no issues. Got a 17' Rebel 55k miles no major issues just air bags in the winter. Got a 23' Rebel 13K no air bags.
Had a 2007 Hemi, traded it in with 147,000 on it. 1 ac condenser fan, 1 alternator, 3 batteries. Changed the oil every 5000 miles or 6 months whichever came 1st. Changed the tranny fluid at 75,000 miles. Towed alot with it, great truck, I miss it dearly.
Have a 2017 Ram 1500 Bighorn with the 5.7 liter with 106k miles, and I absolutely love the truck. Feels very solid and I'll run it until it dies, even if that means the next 5-7 years.
I have a 2017 lonestar 5.7. Full synthetic oil changes , no long idles, I replaced the exhaust manifolds and a pollution control valve. No other issues.
I’m looking at a 2017 sport 4x2 59,275 miles asking 29,995 you guys think I should take it ? I’m coming from a 2014 ram v6 that was straight trash so many problems coolant problems, oil burning, transmission leaking, I understand it’s a v6 so it’s gonna come with problems but tbh a good truck don’t exist they all have problems you gonna chose what problems you want now a days but what do you guys think should I get another dodge ?
@@JaviG-v2m Well I like mine, but I needed it to pull my camper, the price was right back then. The camper weighs 5,000 lbs and pulls it easily.. I bought my 15, truck in 2017. Since I have had it I did replace the exhaust manifolds, 2 bolts broke, but I hear other brands need that repair also. 1 problems with a vac leak, I fixed it the part cost around $20. No other issues to date. Good luck, and shop around you may find a better deal ..

i Have a 1999 Ram 2500 diesel 210,000 miles. All Ball Joints & Front end stuff all worn out. Didn't Even Think about Replacing the truck with the INSANE TRUCK PRICES ! I Brought it to a Offroad shop Had them Replace Everything !!! in the Front end & All New Brakes Front & Rear. New Front Rotors, Rear Drums & new Callipers , New Kyb shocks , New Front coil springs. $5,700.00 Rides & Drives Like a New Truck. a lot cheaper than a New Truck 🛻 !

My dad owned Ram trucks and I've owned 3 Ram trucks myself. I still have a 2001 Ram 2500 diesel loaded with Gale Banks aftermarket parts and a 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 and I love the trucks. Only thing with the earlier models was the rush issue over the rear back tires which should have been a dealer manufacturer mistake but when I talked to dodge themselves they said it doesn't fall under a safety issue but just like every every other vehicle as long as you maintain them they will run for a long time.
I own a 2008 with the 4.7l V8. 187,000 miles and had to have 2 ignition coils replaced, I had to replace the starter, and it has some minor surface body rust. It was made here in the USA and other than those things still runs smooth.
I have a 2016 ram 1500 5.7 HEMI 4×4 love it except for the shifter knob I don't know how many time I almost grabbed it going down the road what was wrong with the cable gonna see if I can convert to cable put in a B&M shifter
My son had a 2020 2500 Ram with a Hemi nice truck but started knocking around 19,000 miles dealer said it was the fuel save causing the knock sold it to Carvana and bought a Diesel.2500 used that runs great.
All vehicles have their own list of issues. Here's the common ones on 19+ Rams: Rear window leak 3rd brake light leak Sun visors fail and fall down active air dam failure (though there is a recall on this one) Oil pans rust out Exhaust manifolds crack down the middle Lifter failure (which can lead to camshaft failure) Upper Control arm or balljoint failure battery premature failure. If yours is made in Mexico: Bad welds along the roof. Many guys are getting water leaking in and think it's the infamous rear window leak when really it's a bad weld just under that plastic strip on the roof. Will you get all these problems? No, probably not. But those are the biggest common issues with this truck. Look up the common issues with other trucks and pick the list you are most comfortable with.
@AStanton1966 easy fix. I kept the brake light stock and just upgraded the foam seal to a nice rubber one from home depot. It's been 3 years and I never had a drop of water in my truck
I am on my second ram. They both have been great. I usually trade in at 100k or so. My brother had his until 200k and traded in for a ridiculous amount. Rams are great trucks
I have a 20 big horn with the v6 3.6, Have had minor problems with the third brake light leaking but it was fixed so I'm good with the truck. Didnt need to tow a lot except for lil trailer and a boat and popup in the future. I couldnt buy a truck with cylinder deactivation and luckily on the v6 a button shuts off the start and stop. After owning a 2017 chevy with all the nightmares with the transmission and hearing about all the blown engines i didnt want anymore problems
Where I live Dodge rams are everywere probably more than Toyota and chevy combined. I been driving my 2001 cummins the motor runs like the day I bought it. The only cost was fixing the body. I like it because it has no pollution stuff on it simple. I get good milage it has never let me down.
The tick problem has been long solved and has zero to do with the cam. It is the oil pump, stock oil pump is to weak. Swap it out with the hellcat oil pump. Problem fixed. Now you can cam your Hemi as well.
My 2011 ram 1500 has 205k miles and is still going strong. Most expensive repair was the TIPM. I bought one refurbished for 400 bucks. I love my truck but that is just my experience.
I was a Ford guy until I test drove my TRX. I beat the living crap out of that truck and it has been an absolute tank. Only problem I had was a drive shaft clunk that was easily fixed under a recall. I can’t see myself driving another brand of truck. Mopar or no car. lol
I bought a used 2016 Rebel with 132,000 miles. No HEMI tick, sounds and drives fantastic. But the first thing I did when looking at used Rams was check the idle hours. This truck only had 14% of its engine time as idle hours…the was significantly lower than ever other one I looked at that were all in the 20’s. Some in the high 20’s….hell no. Great truck. Hint if you have the air suspension. They all leak, but if you put the system into Off Road when you park it, miraculously you won’t loose pressure overnight.
They say not to idle the trucks for "too long"... What I am wondering is what is "too long"? What if you are waiting in traffic? Or going through a drive thru? What is too long to idle?
Hemi have a big camshaft lubrification design flawn (I know by experience 😢). So, around 200k kilometers Hemi tick start to occurr with fuel consumption raising year by year… Don’t do iddle with them!
I bought a 2023 Ram 1500 Warlock like this one but in gray. So far it's been a decent truck, but i'm also only 23,000 kilometers in with it... I made sure to buy the ext'd warranty for it, just being a Chrysler product... you just... never know...
Always been a Ford guy, like my Dad. Now I’ve switched to Ram. I have 2 on the ranch. Best trucks I’ve ever owned. We beat the crap out of them and they never fail. Never going back.
I guess I've been lucky, 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesman w/5.7. I change the oil with Castrol Edge 5W-20 every 7500 miles (the MFG says to change oil every 10K). I run a K&N Gold oil filter. The truck has 71,000 miles on it. Have had no issues until a couple of weeks age. The O.E. battery gave up after 6 1/2 years. I don't long idle my engine so the only thing that scares me is that DMN sealed ZF transmission.
I changed mine myself, I dropped pan, which I purchased one on line with a built in filter pumped in new mopar fluid a year ago , runs great. Did it at 56.000 miles.
Change Your battery Max every 5 Years. recommend between 4-5 years. after that alternator always charging bad battery. Strains charging system. creates other issues. Nothing Worse than a Dead Battery ! Change every 4-5 years ! Best money spent !
They're not that bad on gas. There's no reason that truck can't do better than 17 mpg. My 5.7 got 22 mpg all day long as long as I kept it under 70 mph. It had the 8hp70 transmission with 3:92 rear end. But the idling will cause issues.
I owned a 2016 sport model and loved the interior of that truck but it started getting the Hemi tick at 55,000 miles and the headlights got water in them somehow and the back up camera started failing so I traded it in and bought an SUV instead. I enjoyed that truck for six years but I felt it was only a matter of time before it expired.
My sisters 2015 3500 was a piece of crap with is "Death Wobble"! It almost killed us a few times on the freeway. Unloaded it to Carmax quickly after multiple astronomical quotes to fix the front end. I did a few things that shops said would fix it but to no avail!
i remember watching a video on here, guy paid around 74k for his dodge ram truck. at less than 10k miles, truck wouldn't go into reverse. it was a 2022 model if i remember correctly.
The camshaft of the Hemi is pressure lubbed. The Hemi has a windage tray to prevent the crankshaft from spraying too much oil - so it not designed to splash oil to the camshaft. The lifter 'tick' problem might be inadequate oil flow to the hydraulic valve lifters at idle. Some have installed a high volume oil pump.
I had a Ram 5.7 hemi and they have bad lifters . It use to be a good engine till Fiat started messing with them. Fit and finish was not great. Was terrible to pull a trailer had no guts. Just sold mine and was glad to get rid of it.
My dad has owned 2 dodge trucks for my entire life and I’m 41 years old, both trucks were very reliable and each one he drove for about 20 years and had over 200000 miles on them
The ball cap on the dash tells me everything. I have an 05 with 340 thousand miles, and I'm very bad at idling sometimes for hours and I change oil maybe every 2 thousand miles, but I use 15 30 diesel oil. It's been 100 thousand miles since spark plugs.
REALLY MY 05 IS AT 240K IM RUNNING 5W20 FULL SYNTHETIC BUT WAS THINKING ABOUT GOING TO 5W30 IT DOES HAVE OIL SEEPAGE AROUND SOME GASKETS MAYBE EVEN A FRONT MAIN SLIGHT LEAK BUT RUNS GREAT. IT HAS HEMI TICK SORTA BUT HAS A COUPLE BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS SO I HAVENT WORRIED ABOUT IT
I ALWAYS WANDERED IF I COULD GET AWAY WITH A LITTLE LUCAS IN IT MAYBE SLOW THE LEAKS FOR NOW BUT STILL EVEN WITH SLOW LEAKS IT GOES A LONG WAYS BEFORE IT NEEDS OIL ADDED
I have 3 Dodges right now. The youngest one has 160k miles and the oldest has 265k miles. Only one of them is a diesel. Maintenance is extremely important but they are good vehicles.
I have an identical vehicle except its a 2016 and i love the air suspension except in the winter time. When it gets below 10 degrees the air bags deflate and won't air up until the temperature gets above 10 degrees. Extremely annoying.
Yeah, RAMs are loud and that 5.7L sounds like true rocket when it's cold. I too had a real AO of a neighbor (a total tool and a 1/2 - damn barking dogs). FIXED that issue - versus keeping my Ram 5.7L in the garage on cold winter nights, I'd leave it out in the driveway and I'd warm it up every morning (4:30 am) for 20 minutes. He moved. Have to ask, do you own dogs?
No doggies of my own, but many people around me have dogs, but they don't bother me. Even the Great Dane that goes "ROOOOOOOO!" actually cracks me up. For the most art, I just can't stand most low rumbling noises.
I have a 2012 with 258k only thing I replace was the starter, radiator, and water pump, it’s now having issues not running on a cylinders, I’m gonna get it rebuilt and upgrade the cam and smack some headers in, cold air intake, and. New throttle body in

2014 Ram real good TRUCK no problems , don't drive in eco mode!!! Regular oil changes. Typical milage is 18.5. Towing around 8 to 10. Still has original battery. Problem I have one wheel wonder ( even though it's a4x4) replace headlight switch, exhaust manifold leak and bright lights don't work I have 148000.
Ram trucks have been the most reliable trucks I have ever owned. I had a 2002 with the 4.7l I put 196000 on it when I sold it. Only issue the Ram exhaust manifold studs at 150000. My 2013 hemi has 195000 and the water pump bearing failed and that's all. I had ford's in the past and had replace tranny's
Yes, I’m about to put water pump #3 on my 2014 1500. First was around 80K miles. Now at 203.5K miles I’m getting that drip again. Rotors are the only other think I’ve changed.
I think we can all agree that its just silly to not be able to idle the hemi. I mean idling is part of regular driving so how in the world are you supposed to avoid that. I had a rental 3.6L pentastar v6 in a ram 1500 classic and honestly the best truck I ever drove! Give v6 a try!
Would you buy a landrover or jaguar??? So why would you buy these guzzling antiquated tanks ??? Toyota & Haval own the industry today ! Reliability & longevity!
2014 Ram 1500 Hemi. Headlight and tail light issues. You tube videos suggest it is the headlight wire harness shorting out. From loose bulbs to wiring harnesses shorting out; had to drive home in the dark no headlights, luckily the truck has fog lights.
My truck has 224k miles it's 01 ram only problems I had is maintenance no major fixes I did do water pump at 219k since doing water pump my dash low wash is on I think sensor is dirty may need to drain it clean sensor and refill to get off when I do that I will let u know if the low wash goes off
I hope they stay lucky! My 2017 Dodge Caravan 3.6L's TIPM died for a cost of $1,000.00 parts ONLY! Not sure if this can be blamed on Fiat, but It is running good now!
After high school I stuck with dodge. I had one of the magnum dakotas and it did me well for about a year then it was weekly repairs. I eventually got rid of it and decided to try a tacoma. I'm not looking back.
Had my 2012 model since 1,200 miles . 10 years later 160k on it and the only issue has been the header bolts which isn't that big of a deal . 3k oil changes and regular maintenance these 5.7 are great. I tow my boat and car hauler no problem . Just do not idle this engine. Give it hell.
I bought a 2024 Ram 1500 3.6L. The truck rides great, has plenty of power, but not a gas hog, I get 25 mpg on highway, hopefully it will last for a long time.
I had to do a cam and lifters at 150k in my Ram Bighorn well worth it as I love my Truck . I did go with a new melling high pressure oil pump and it idles now at 50 PSI ! So no issues now , Other than that I love my Ram , Stuff happens to all makes of vehicles !
My 2015 1500 Hemi developed a top end lifter-rod ticking sound from exactly what Scotty said. The cam is so high the oil wont lubricate it at idle and start-up. It was an expensive truck and so hated that part of ownership plus the 10 recalls in 5 years. My dashboard moaned and creaked like a haunted house and the ignition left me stranded at 30K miles. The body lines were the worst of any vehicle ive seen in 50 years. Other than that it was a good truck.
I have a 2015, Ram 1500 with the Hemi. Getting 18-20 MPG. Don't run them through the car wash. The windshield cowl seals will deteriorate. The new cowl is over $400. 😢
I have a 2015 RAM with 320.000miles never bin apart Dorman manifold bolt broke off at 96.000 still this way I change oil every 5000 if I can I use Valvoline high mileage 5w30 winter 10w30 summer justice brothers additive every other year only thing I did to it was breaks pads twice an breaks an rotators once an a pair of struts on the front bin a good truck
2023 3500 Ram AWD extended with 1500 yes 1500 miles, Steering wheel spring broke, now in shop waiting for new transmission, would only go in reverse!!!
@@joshkrause2977 GM has similar issues with AFM (regardless of how many people say it's been fixed in the new direct injected LTs, it hasn't) in the 5.3 and 6.2, which is their version of Displacement On-Demand. The lifters will collapse and bend pushrods and sometimes wipe out the cam. Was an issue in the 80's when they first tried it, and has been an issue since it was reintroduced in 2007. Even if the Hemi's problems aren't entirely due to MDS, it's definitely not helping out.
I was in the market for a new Maverick but i couldn't find one that wasn't over sticker so I ended up with a 2018 Ram 3.6. I think I made the right choice. The 2018 is simple enough but has worked well for me so far.
Had a '16. You'll be putting an oil cooler on around 100k. Otherwise, a great truck. I have a '19 hemi now, 210,000. Needs a new water pump every 100k, but otherwise a great truck.
I've seen videos that say if you install the oil pump from a hellcat motor, it being a high volume pump, the cam lubrication issue is no longer an issue.
On all modern cars, it’s not good to idle them to warm them up in cold weather. Best to just get in and start driving, you just need to take it easy till it does warm up. But they warm up very quickly.
I let Mine warm up 5min about it the pressure is high when it first starts up it comes down as the engine idles down so you’re getting fine lubricant at first then just take a easy till it’s normal temp usually like 5min down the road if that it’s at temp
I have a 2016 Ram 1500 with 115k miles. Gets close to 20mpg on the highway with premium gas, otherwise 18.5 mpg. It had a crappy battery that lasted 4 years. It's now an old windy because the door weatherstripping is poor and it's loud at highway speeds. Probably should replace all the shocks as the smooth ride has disappeared over time. The truck itself never left me stranded.
I have a 2014 ram 1500 5.7L engine. I bought it used with 60,000 miles and now has 84,900. I've never changed the transmission oil. Should I change it?

Iguess comments speak forthem self's I worked for alot of famous race car drivers and was there mechanic just a FYI I dought it but maybe if u Google it if u no how what engine we used and ur showing ur age this isn't the 60tes anymore
My Brother has an 89 dodge truck 1st gen.diesel 400000 miles. Engine just blew. He has towed everyday for years. Great truck.
Make sure the mechanic is correct in the assessment about the engine blowing. At 400K, it is certainly plausible to have a run-out/blown engine, but it is also plausible to for that thing to be good for many more miles even towing depending on how it has been worked.
89 is the optimal word

I'm hoping to buy a 19 Laramie Night edition. ...sales manager is a friend and let me borrow for 5 days...sweet ride man, hoping to purchase today or 2maro 🤞🏾

Still driving a 2011
The bad- exhaust manifolds had to be replaced around 80 thousand miles
The gas tank will belch up gas if you attempt to fill it completely
The fuel relay started to act up around 110k- 120k miles.
Can't believe lifter hasn't went out yet.

As a retired OEM chassis engineer, I can tell you nowadays almost none of the problems come from the assembly plant, they come from poor design or part manufacturing. When is the last time you had an issue that was due to the vehicle not being put together correctly?
All the time actually. Poor assembly is what I see more than any other issue.
I have a 2008 dodge Ram truck that I brought new. Everyone in my family has driven it. It set for six years without being drove. We put a new fuel pump and tires, changed the fluids.
How often do you change your oil? I want mine to last that long lol
Hi, are the cars lifters and cam still good? Never replaced before?
gd to hear!!! new dodge truck to me 2011 sport i LUV it 130k miles and is flawless so far
You guys are the only people establishing the issue. I’m not a huge fan of Kilmer but he’s right on this point. Not enough lubrication at low idle.
@@samc231I don’t see enough at low mileage with cam issues to justify a recall. Now the Pacifica and Cherokee 3.6, I replace those engines a lot.

All vehicles have their own list of issues. Here's the common ones on 19+ Rams:
Rear window leak
3rd brake light leak
Sun visors fail and fall down
active air dam failure (though there is a recall on this one)
Oil pans rust out
Exhaust manifolds crack down the middle
Lifter failure (which can lead to camshaft failure)
Upper Control arm or balljoint failure
battery premature failure.

I guess I've been lucky, 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesman w/5.7. I change the oil with Castrol Edge 5W-20 every 7500 miles (the MFG says to change oil every 10K). I run a K&N Gold oil filter. The truck has 71,000 miles on it. Have had no issues until a couple of weeks age. The O.E. battery gave up after 6 1/2 years. I don't long idle my engine so the only thing that scares me is that DMN sealed ZF transmission.
Get the transmission drain and fill. I also change to a aluminum pan which helps keeps the transmission cooler.
I changed mine myself, I dropped pan, which I purchased one on line with a built in filter pumped in new mopar fluid a year ago , runs great. Did it at 56.000 miles.
My tradesman, 2014, is still running great at 203.5K miles. My transmission isn’t sealed but it’s factory fluid. Still a little pink. Great truck.

They're not that bad on gas. There's no reason that truck can't do better than 17 mpg. My 5.7 got 22 mpg all day long as long as I kept it under 70 mph. It had the 8hp70 transmission with 3:92 rear end. But the idling will cause issues.
My 05 has 220k mls purs like a tiger. Did put on a new front end, exhaust, water pump. Treated me better than my Ex ever did.

Switch back to 5/30 problem solved, instantly notice a difference, owners manual approved .
I had a Ram 5.7 hemi and they have bad lifters . It use to be a good engine till Fiat started messing with them. Fit and finish was not great. Was terrible to pull a trailer had no guts. Just sold mine and was glad to get rid of it.

@Michael-B41 I'll give you an update,I am now using valvoline restore and fixing to make 3rd oil change and oil consumption has dropped a lot.
I have 3 Dodges right now. The youngest one has 160k miles and the oldest has 265k miles. Only one of them is a diesel. Maintenance is extremely important but they are good vehicles.
2017 RAM 1500 sport 4x4. Not a single issue. Most reliable vehicle o I've ever owned.
I have an identical vehicle except its a 2016 and i love the air suspension except in the winter time. When it gets below 10 degrees the air bags deflate and won't air up until the temperature gets above 10 degrees. Extremely annoying.
A new neighbor just moved in with a black one of these, and I swear it's straight-piped, and he knows it's loud. He's already overstayed his welcome.
New throttle body in
Your expérience concurr with this: Hemi have a big camshaft lubrification design flawn (I know by experience 😢). So, around 200k kilometers Hemi tick start to occurr with fuel consumption raising year by year… Don’t do iddle with them
2014 Ram real good TRUCK no problems , don't drive in eco mode!!!
Toyota lost its reliability rating on the tundra because of the TTv6.. the 5.7 tundra were great, but even bigger pigs on gas..
2014 Ram 1500 Hemi. Headlight and tail light issues. You tube videos suggest it is the headlight wire harness shorting out. From loose bulbs to wiring harnesses shorting out; had to drive home in the dark no headlights, luckily the truck has fog lights.
I had a 2018 ram hemi loved it but i traded in for a 2021 v6 still love it has 54k miles no problem so far.
I have 185k on my HEMI. Owner’s manual says to use conventional oil I’m pretty sure. Have never used synthetic.
I drove a 2016 ram and I now own a 2010 f150. Ram has way less issues.
I bought a 2024 Ram 1500 3.6L. The truck rides great, has plenty of power, but not a gas hog, I get 25 mpg on highway, hopefully it will last for a long time.
Does it have the torque?
5000 MILES per oil change. Up here in Canada they try to convince you to pay for full synthetic and come back at 5000 KMS
I love the Ram with a penstar engine, great power, reliable and pretty good mpg.
Been driving 96 Dodge ram 1500 I bought it $1400 that was 4 years ago . Used to be a fort Worth natural gas City truck.
Had a 2015 Ram 1500 Hemi sport 3.92 rear axle. I was getting 13 MPG with the AC on in the city. 15 MPG is probably combined mileage.
Hemis dont like cylinder deactivation. Tuning it out helps alot. Best course of action is getting rid of the deactivation liftera.
I put it in tow / haul mode as soon as I start it up. No jumping from 8 to 6 or 4 that it would otherwise do. Always V- 8 .
@@PeterRabbitWhatsupis that what tow mode does? Is it bad to keep the truck in tow mode?
It’s bad parts not the mds
@@PooFace2030no it’s not bad for it. It’s kinda like putting a car in sports mode.
Does anyone know how Scotty maintains so much energy on a daily basis? The man is a machine!😂
I think I saw energy drinks in the background. Pause he’s just passionate
Keeps him young 😊
He does nofap…
His heart should be V8
Especially watching him in 2×
I was in the market for a new Maverick but i couldn't find one that wasn't over sticker so I ended up with a 2018 Ram 3.6. I think I made the right choice. The 2018 is simple enough but has worked well for me so far.
Had a '16. You'll be putting an oil cooler on around 100k. Otherwise, a great truck.
I have a '19 hemi now, 210,000. Needs a new water pump every 100k, but otherwise a great truck.
if it's a Eco boost. hearing alot of bad stuff about them.
@@OcRefrig thankfully Ram does not use Ecoboost engines.
I had a 2017 Ram 5.7 80,000 miles started making a tapping noise, lifter problem. Traded in on another truck
We have a 2001 and 2017 Ram 1500’s and love them. Need to learn your teams though: the ball cap is a Texas Longhorn not University of Tennessee.
I've seen videos that say if you install the oil pump from a hellcat motor, it being a high volume pump, the cam lubrication issue is no longer an issue.
If you shouldn’t idle them, then what should you do to warm them up?
On all modern cars, it’s not good to idle them to warm them up in cold weather. Best to just get in and start driving, you just need to take it easy till it does warm up. But they warm up very quickly.
I let
Mine warm up 5min about it the pressure is high when it first starts up it comes down as the engine idles down so you’re getting fine lubricant at first then just take a easy till it’s normal temp usually like 5min down the road if that it’s at temp
