Buffoonery, Chrysler had 25 billion dollars in the bank when Daimler approached Chrysler. DAIMLER needed Chrysler for it's recourses because Mercedes Benz was losing billions to Lexus, BMW and Acura in the 90s. Chrysler didn't need Daimler, it was the other way around, do your research.
@@happyjohn8256 after looting the company of it's recourses, Yes, Daimler looted the hell out of Chrysler of it's cash and assets and then sold the company after Daimler got back on it's feet. Where have you been?
@@happyjohn8256 stop it, it was a 36 billion dollar MERGER. Daimler later used it's extra assets and it's earlybird access to the stock markets in Europe to takeover Chrysler. Chrysler was the most powerful car company in the late 90s, that's why Daimler came knocking on the door. After LOOTING Chrysler of it's vital assets, it ended up being a shell of it's own self, that's why they sold 80% of the company to Cerberus and tried to keep the other 20% to themselves. Barack Obama forced Daimler to give up that 20% and forced Chrysler's CEO out. Obama loaned Chrysler 12 billion dollars to fix itself on the condition that Chrysler would allow itself to be bought by a trash company called Fiat. So yes, Chrysler's cash flow saved Daimler and it's currently saving two more European car companies Peugeot and Fiat ( considering the fact that Chrysler makes 65% of the groups profit).
I have a 2003 Ram 1500 Standard cab. It's been my daily driver since 2006. Great truck. Tough as hell. Still a lot of original stuff too at 471,000 miles.
These older, mid-2000's Dodge Ram 1500's with the 5.7 L HEMI V8 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission are still running strong and driving pretty good as of today. There is no need to buy a newer used vehicle. Thank you very much.
I owned a 2006 5.7 Ram 1500 and got 260k out of its original engine and transmission. It was the best truck I’ve ever driven. Most of my friends and family hated me for driving a Dodge but I was the first one they’d call for help when there car broke down😊
@derekheuring2984 Displacement on demand AFM really shot that motor in the foot. I still wanna buy an LBZ or an LLY. But I'll settle for a nice LQ9 Vortec 6.0 because it is mated to the 4L80. 5.3 still a good motor. 4L60...meh
@@CallMeJarv I have a 99 Dakota with the 3.9, and the front brakes do have a shitty design being the caliper bolt threads are built into the steering knuckle, other than that the front brakes are fine
🎉❤ same here any tips on the car new owner just replaced my thermostat and now I have a leak on the sides is it because I didn’t use heat glue for sealant? Please help
I worked as a toolmaker for Newark Assy. for Chrysler Corp. from 93 to 09 when the plant closed.Chrysler never needed Daimler Benz. The company was doing fine with 8 billion in cash reserve at the time of the "takeover" When Daimler took over they took away as many improvements that had been made on the vehicle as they could get away with. For just a few examples they eliminated some inspection on the final line ,did away with the color coordinated running boards, eliminated reinforcement brackets in the under-body and also did away with the shipping tape? that you normally only see on expensive vehicles. They actually cheapened the Dodge Durango. I was there.
The Daimler CEO called it "a merger of equals." It didn't take long for the bloom to fall from the rose. Chrysler was making all the money, and Daimler was trying to keep their head above water because they were getting clobbered by Lexus & BMW. Chrysler got royally screwed and never recovered.
Scotty often has his own version of the real world. I was a MSF Motorcycle Safety Instructor for around 20 years and listened to his EXPERT review of motorcycle items. I guess MSF should have not bothered and simply contacted him, so much for the Hurt Report and actual accident analysis. Have an older Dodge with a 4.7 and it has over 175k miles and yes I had to fix it myself. Turns out simply the mile-long cam chain system wore out enough to require attention and a few small electrical issues, it runs like a clock. I would have selected that Old Hemi if I could, but buying a used vehicle, you take what it has.
I'm the owner of an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.7Hemi 2wd, Bought it brand spanking new in November of 03. I'm at 300,000+ kms and she's still driving (4-5 xs per week) with no issues. With exception to the typical wear & tear components (brakes, shocks etc) I've only had to replace a fuel pump, heater core & (1) o2 sensor,.........THAT'S IT !!!!. Of course the body is rotting away (good old Toronto Canada winters, lol) but this truck is a beast and I will run this thing until she quits. Not bad for a purchase made almost 20 yrs back. Myself and 2 other friends all purchased the same truck within a matter of months back in 03/04. One of them decided to upgrade in 2010/11 with a new model Ram 1500 and it was nothing but issues for him within 4-5 months of owning the vehicle. As for the other friend with the 04? It's still going strong with 400,000kms + and minimal repairs over the years......A great all around truck with a super strong motor ;)
I have a 2000 Dodge Magnum 360, 260,000 miles. Regular maintenance, not one problem. Change the oil and transmission at regular intervals as it says in the manual. It's getting rusty but I'd drive it anywhere. I love it.
01 ram off road edition 258,000 miles. Trans was rebuilt at 120k and rear LSD was replaced with tracklock at 250k when the clutch retainers broke. Still runs strong minus dash core being brittle.
Not one problem? 4mpg is a problem.😂 Seriously though, you haven't had a problem with the intake manifold plenum leaking causing oil to burn? Maybe it was fixed before you bought it. I got 160k on my 360, really only issue I have. Want to get it fixed but if I got to tear all that down might as well put some heads, cam, and good intake manifold 😂
01 ram 1500 and not really had much big problems. My cyl 4 is misfiring now but overall thats the biggest expense i would have to spend but if im having to spend that i may as well rebuild the trans ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ shes my first vehicle and i love it
My 05 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi has been flawless mechanically except the usual wear and tear items. The 5 speed trans like some have stated on here has 6 gears using a 2nd prime gear for downshifting from 5th at highway speeds, it only uses 5 up shifts tho. Great truck, not the most comfortable but it's the last of the "real" trucks made, not like these 100k $ Cadillac wus trucks of today. Mine can really take a beating without skipping a beat.
I have a 2004 dodge ram 4.7 magnum automatic trans bought new. Best truck ever bought. Still own it 20 years later and it has 250,000 miles original engine and transmission. Knock on wood I can get another year or two out of it. All I have done to it is regular maintenance.
2003 4.7 mag. Amazing truck so far only 70k on the clock. Gotta ask, when did you find the timing chain needed replacing with yours? Know it can vary truck to truck but be interesting to know how long it lasted for you?
Im a landscaper running a 2007 dodge ram 370,000+ miles. Abused every single day. Driven through woods, mud, rocks. Never failed me completely. Besides the starter and fuel pump not marking she’s running tip top. My daily is a 2012 single cab ram 160k miles. It has the exhaust bolt tick I’ve been too lazy to fix but shes tip top also
My uncle gifted me his sitting 04 1500 hemi sport with 90,000 miles on it for my 18th last year. Unfortunately just wrecked it from teenager stupidity, but it’s almost done being fixed. Amazing truck (although I’ve only had it for a year) and I want to drive it until it blows up!
The old magnum engines are near bulletproof. The 3.9 isn't winning any 1/4 miles, but it's cast iron and will outlast the frames on most vehicles. 12 years ago I bought a 94 3.9 Dakota for $1200 and I've probably put less than $3500 into it since. $1400 of it being a 42rh trans rebuild.
My dad has had 2 3.9 Dakotas, first one he bought late 90s, second one he bought 8 years ago maybe? I also have a 3.9 Dakota myself now, these are great trucks indeed!
I had an 88 Dak 3.9 with 5 speed manual. 450K when the engine finally went, ( I think timing chain broke). And it was a short box, I should’ve fixed it.
There are several transmission rebuild manuals out there that would have guided you through a rebuild of the 42rh. Have rebuilt several of the larger units, and they are relatively easy to pull down and rebuild, you will have to fabricate several tools, however.
still got my 03 2500 cummins. 625,000 miles and still going. one thing about them is they're easier to maintain and work on. yes there's aggravating aspects ( blend doors issue and the odometer issue ) but it's really been a terrific truck
I am still driving my 2004 Dodge ram that I bought new in 04. It has 207,000 miles and still runs like new. It does suffer from a manifold leak. I am big on maintenance so it has had nothing but synthetic oil since its 1st oil change.. definitely been a good truck for me.. it's 4x4 and I definitely drive it in some tough conditions
Mine is a 99 Dakota with the 3.9, with the full luxury package. Best truck I've ever owned...unless you decide to replace the heater core like i did...
I have an 05’ Ram 1500 5.7. I purchased the truck new and have taken care of it over the years. I have replaced plenty of external parts; EGR, water pump, cam sensor, and so on. I have never had any internal engine or transmission problems with the truck and it has over 250,000 miles. I do use synthetic and change the oil regularly. I have changed the transmission fluid twice.
I have a 2004 RAM 2500 ST, 5.7 hemi, manual transmission, snow plow and towing package with 254,000 miles on it. I bought the truck new. The only recurring problem I've had is the pilot bearing. It has a tendency to seize up over time. Living in New Jersey, the biggest issue is rust. The bottom links on the front axle rusted out. I had to have the frame repaired because it was rusting out. And body rot. But, the engine is still going strong!
I own my 2005 Rumble Bee since new and had it undercoated every year. Our Canadian winters can take a toll on vehicles but mine has no rust and is mint. I suggest a Crown undercoat if available, mine is going back for an undercoat next month.
My 1998 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 magnum still starts right up every time. Only 92k original miles thought. Automatic. Rides smooth still and I can take a nap across the front seat if need be.
I have a 1994 dodge van 5.2 blue printed the engine… if you replace the Plenum pan under the intake manifold with a good aluminum, one put a good steel camshaft and good lifters in there. The thing will go again for another 200,000….. of course get a rid of that stock heads that are notorious for cracking , EQ heads they’re good !
In the fall of 2002, I bought a brand new 2003 Dodge Ram 2500HD w/5.9L Cummins Turbodiesel. About 20 years later and 210,000 miles later, I finally sold my old truck. That’s another Dodge of the same era that one can be reasonably confident in purchasing, so long as it has the Cummins Turbodiesel.
Our family has both a 1500 5.7 for a winter truck and a 2500 5.9 cummins which hauls our trailer in the summer. Both have been excellent pickups. The 5.7 has more then enough power for the average Joe. and given the price of diesel in Canada (1.90 a liter where I'm to, gas is 1.60) the 5.7 is a no Brainer at the moment. Which is unfortunate, given the excellent reputation of the 5.9, but this generation 5.7 is very very reliable as well before they gave them MDS in 2007.
2007 5.7 with the MDS, but first thing I did was pick up a tuner, and disabled it. Full v8 power with pretty good economy on the 87 tune. Love the truck, love the tuner. Thanks, Scotty!!!!
I had an 07 5.7 QC 4x4, 17 3.6 CC 4x4, 16 5.7 CC 4x4, and now have a 19 5.7 CC 4x4. They’ve only gotten better. Another 50hp, 60ft/lb torque, better on fuel economy thanks to the 8 speed transmission. I love dodge trucks.
@@brevinainslie6357 the reason I ask is because I just bought a 2019 3.6 4x2. Better on gas, just need it to do my rental work and enjoy the smoother ride going to work and to school. Don’t plan on towing anything big, MAYBE to tow a camper big enough for 2. Anything I should expect or look out for? Anything you recommend I buy or do to enhance the experience?
I have a 2020 Ram Rebel. I have had none of the negative issues people have complained of. I don’t let the truck just sit and idle. I drive the truck like i care about it and not like it’s in dome extreme baja enduro race. Keep your oil changed. And disable the mds.
I have an 03 Dodge Ram 1500 4 door with 3.7 v6 with automatic transmission. It’s been a great truck. I bought it brand new in April of 2003 with only 3 miles. Today, 3/3/23, it has 306,000 miles and still running strong. Only items I’ve replaced besides regular maintenance was front wheel bearings, and ball joints. It loves to eat ball joints and wheel hub bearings, other than that it’s been a fantastic truck. And it still drives like the day I bought it from Planet Dodge.
@@BigLaramieI got mine from 1A Auto but the mechanic was pissed off and told me that rivets mean you have to replace both upper and lower control arms. Complete front end bar end kit $100
I've got a 2003 4.7L. 280k miles. (10k that I've put on it). It has been reliable for me and given me a usable vehicle when I've needed it. It does have some issues I need to fix. One being the downstream o2 wiring (when changing it, the wires on the truck side of the harness just came right out with no pressure, so they probably did that before I got it thinking they could just hide it). Overall, I'd have loved to have gotten this truck years ago. Pretty solid overall.
I have a 2012 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. So far no problems and runs good. It's more base so I don't need to worry about electronics going which is nice
The transmission in that truck is technically a 6 speed. Mechanically it's basically the same as the 65RFE, but instead of using all 6 gears, two of them take turns being 2nd gear depending on whether you are towing, or if the shift is an up or down shift.
That’s weird I didn’t know that existed lol I know the old 4AOD, 4R70, and 4R75s in all the V8/RWD Fords 2011 and back, like in my 2010 crown Vic, sounds and acts like a 6 speed for some reason. It can be pretty tricky telling what gear you’re in cause they shift so smooth.
@@ESPLTD322 that's the lockup torque converter engaging which can be easily mistaken as an extra gear. My old Ford did that and initially made me think it was a 5spd auto
Had a single cab one of these as my first truck. Drove it like a teenager for around 70,000 miles and never had any real issues I can recall besides an exhaust hangar breaking.
Truck was most likely made at the St. Louis Fenton Chrysler Truck facility where they had two production lines running simultaneously and DAIMLER put in Hundreds of Millions in upgrading the facility after they merged. Now today it is an empty field and the Truck plant was leveled to the ground - all gone.
Wow..same thing happened with a GM plant in St Therese Quebec. Stood for 30 years was upgraded for the fire bird and camaro and then sales slumped and that was it closed in 2002 and the whole building desfroyed and redeveloped.
My grandpa had a 2003 5.7 4x4. Traded it in 2012 for a brand new Grand caravan because my grandma complained about getting up and down out of it. He traded that 3 years later for a 2015 bighorn
Got a 2005 with the hemi still going strong with 140000 miles. Only problem I ever had was a leaking pressure sensor on the power steering. love this truck and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.
I have a 2006 facelift hemi with 348,100 miles on it without any rebuilds. I like how you mention this 2004 isn’t old enough to have a cassette deck but my 2006 does along with that 6 disc CD player lol
Bought a '68 LaSabre in '80 for $500 since it had new radial tires on it, but also this problem, found the right guy to weld the harmonic balancer key in for $20! Bought a ''73 Impala Wagon for $700, drove them for months, swapped tires & made some money on both! Life is good!!
I have a 2008 dodge ram bought it with 90k and they had wrecked it bad enough that the rear frame had to be replaced. Original everything in the engine. Im sitting at 265k now and the only issues ive had are electrical such as the four wheel drive and cruise control. But the engine couldn't care less. It finally started leaking a drop of oil out the rear main . But like a 10th of a quart per oil change. I was really impressed with it's performance considering i drive it like a race car/work truck at the same time.
I have an 04 with an 06 5.9 magnum. Besides the crap paint and cracked dash it’s one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned. Taken it all over the country. Pulled campers. Giant loads of shingles. She’s never batted an eye
I replaced 3 EGR valves on my minivan. Look very similar. The first two replacements failed after about 6 months. Bought a Mopar replacement and its still working fine 3 years later.
Original Owner 2003 Dodge Durango 4.7 Just doing the oil pan at 218k and second set of exhaust manifold. Not really much more than oil and air filter changes every 3k and new tires brakes. No complaints. Towed with it alot......still running strong.
I bought a 1998 2500 Dodge Ram new. It has a 5.9 with 5 speed manual. It has 200,000+ miles and its been a great truck ever since I bought it. with 411 gears it will pull anything, still. Other than routine maintenance I have put a starter, radiator and need an AC compressor. Other than a couple minor oil leaks, she's still in good shape. I must have gotten one of the good ones!!
Just for Dodge Ram 5.7L engine owners. I own a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L engine. Never had a problem with the Hemi tick. The 5.7l takes 7.5 qts of oil Vs factory that says 7.0 qts. Lack of oil is what’s causing the hemi tick.😊
I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 that I purchased new. As of today my truck has an honest 417,000 miles on the engine and rear end. Now I have maintained this truck probably better than most do. Regular oil changes at 6000 miles, rear end oil at 40,000 miles, and trans fluid changes at 40,000 miles. Aside from batteries and EGR valves, this truck has been great. I have no problem telling folks that Dodge makes a great truck.
My 2005 ram hemi was a unicorn. 780000km original engine and tranny, never burnt a drop of oil. It was used daily as a trade truck, towing and moving tools. Unreal.
in reference to the keyway problem, they make what they call a step key, one side is bigger, you can measure the damaged side and come up with a size that can be ground down to mimic the damaged keyway in such a way that it has to be tapped in with a piece of brass, while at the same time you have bought a key that fits the undamaged key of the part that slides onto the shaft. at the machine shop we also did maintenance work like this all the time , the customer had a machine down and they were losing big money any time it was down and we did stuff like this all the time, do it right and you will never have any more trouble rather than tear the machine down for days or weeks
I had a hemi and the 5.9 magnum. Personally I prefer the magnum. more reliable and easier to work on. An added bonus of the magnum is that you can idle it without destroying the cam. 😅
It's unfortunate all the HEMI 5.7 got outsourced. I bought my 2019 RAM 1500 4X4 with the Pentastar V6...no trouble at all. The truck is head turner too.
I have 2010 4.7 with 324,000 original. Replaced water pump twice and timing chain once. I run Pennzoil 5/20 full synthetic and swear by it. If it gave up the ghost tomorrow I’m buying another 4.7 the following day. 😉
Cool but I have a 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 5.2 litre 318 magnum V8 46 RE AT manual shift transfer case lever on the floor 1500 gloss black with most of the white pinstripe 4x4 with 244k runs strong
The hemi lifter problem is an oil pressure problem. Prolonged idles kills the rollers on the lifter pins, which causes the pins to wear the cam lobe. Never prolong idle anything. Manually raise rpm by pressing the throttle every 3-5 minutes. Bump the idle up from 500 rpm to 750 rpm, if you idle regularly and you will never have an issue. You need 45 psi or better, not the 39 psi at 500 rpm I trade my trucks every 200 thousand miles and my kid still has my last hemi running strong at 200 k plus. I shut off 7 and 8 gears when I tow heavy.
Not sure I understand Scotty...The newer Rams have the German 8 speed transmissions in them that Scotty had said were good transmissions...Now he's trashing them? I don't get it...
I’ve got a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, 4.7 L engine, and I keep it in perfect shape. Anything needing maintenance or repairs, I have it done. 160,000 miles so far, and it will go anywhere and haul everything. Had it from new and it’s a great truck.
My 07 Durango(hemi) has been good to us but needed an intermediate steering shaft. Part is discontinued with no known aftermarket part. Sad I had to install a junkyard part from a Durango with more miles than mine.
I love my 2004 ram 5.7. I’ve replaced a lot of parts because it has 258000 miles on it. It’s definitely worth keeping. I’m hoping to get another few years out of it. I’m glad you appreciate them like I do.
Bought an 04 Hemi from a friend. Almost 200k and still going strong. He has a 250k 05 that is as well, minus a not so great transmission when it's cold.
Nice! Hey, I got one for ya; A 2009 Fiat Dodge Avenger 2.4L Auto; No fuse message in Odometer area. Nothing works, including all the auto shut down devises and fob only makes the head lights turn on in auto shut down mode and the tail lights flash till ya start the engine (All runs great!) or rather turn the key on. Prior to this the Battery did go very low and then no start . Fix Me Ideas?!! Put a new Red top Battery in it, New Battery clamps, New Key fob battery, I replaced the TIPM with a used one from Ebay and same exact issue continues and afterwards I took apart the OME one and found all fuses to be good, no discoloration, no rust stains, everything is as new looking and even smells new and I did the Hard rest than where ya disconnect the battery and hold the cables together for an hour plus. Nothing. Fix Me Ideas?!!
@@Fiden6666 My late Uncle had an early 60s Ford Galaxie with the 292 V8. That situation you posted is exactly what eventually killed the engine in the early 70s. I've seen a fix on YT that corrects that problem now. Wish my Uncle had been able to do that. He had to sell the car.
Good video. But the 2010 to 2014 Dodges Use the same five-speed nag 1 transmission that’s in this truck. But in another video he said the same transmissions were junk. I guess I don’t understand
I assume he’s going from a quality standpoint, and in terms of who had a better track record. But I agree it’s kinda arbitrary, 545RFE bad because Fiat, but also 545RFE good because Daimler
@@saratc660 Yes. My 14 Charger R/T has the exact same 545RFE Tranny in it, and my car was built 1 month Before FIAT was involved. (under the hood it says Chrysler Group LLC, not FCA)
People always focus on the stupid lifters failing at random (which really isn’t a hard job to fix them), but apart from that one common issue, I can’t count how many 3.6 Pentastar engines I know of are out there with 250,000-300,000 miles and still running strong. You can’t sit there and tell me that it’s not worth a damn for a good reliable daily driver.
I had a 2004 Ram with 3.7. At 15 or 20 k during cold weather doing cold start it had a pretty good knock in it, lasting 1 or 2 minutes. I gave it a new home.
I was told from a few different sources that the 3.6 VVT engines are also good. Is that wrong? It is about the only thing in my Grand Caravan that hasn't needed replacing. Still runs good with 300 k on it.
I have a 2015 with over a 100 thousand miles only one problem since new brake sensor It's runs and drives the same today as it did as new Best truck I have ever owned
Years ago I bought a brand new Chevy Malibu. EGR values were just being used. Soon as the car warmed up it felt like you were driving into a head wind. Took it to the dealer twice. 2nd time the mechanic called me back and handed me a small ball bearing. He told me first thing in the am before you start the car, pull this vacuum line off and stick the ball bearing inside the hose and reattach the hose. Valve never opened again and ran like a top.
I have an 04 2500 gasser. Original 5.7 hemi and aito trans. It has over 300,000 miles and still runs like new. I bought it with 189,000 and other then a water pump and thermostat it hasn't given me any trouble. Just routine trans fluid and filter change and oil changes every 3000 miles religiously. I have traveled all over texas for work and would trust this old truck to go anywhere. Gets terrible mpg (9mpg) but refuses to die
I mean i'd rather have a reliable 350 horsepower motor in a truck than something close to 400 and gonna grenade in 5 years or possibly less. The tip for those 5 speeds is to make sure you change the little filters in them. a lot of the time those screens get clogged and start causing problems. my brother had to do it in his 2005.
Hi Scotty, I'm a 63-year-old woman I just bought my first dodge. Dodge ram 1500 with 60,000 original miles on it it's a 2006. I was scared to death to buy a Dodge cuz I've always heard so much about the electronics and the engine. But the low miles and low price wooed me into the purchase. I have had Ford pickups throughout my life. But these are just different I'll be ready for whatever it throws my way❤
Awesome video. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 with the 4.7l engine. Still on the road with regular preventative maintenance. These engines gum up even with regular oil changes but a flush keeps it running. Transmission is solid at 156K. Germans did Chrysler a solid in design and manufacturing good pickup trucks.
One design feature Chrysler fixed with early 2004 version. Crankcase vent tube ran from pvc valve at oil fill to the back of the engine. Replacing the tube means laying flat over the engine to reach behind far enough to replace the tube. Pain in arse. Later 2004 version changed the routing to make it more accessible. Hoping to keep my truck on the road a few more years. Scotty's videos on newer pickups is disheartening concerning the lack of quality and performance.
The Hemi is 100 percent a Chrysler design , it was designed primarily by retired Chrysler engineer Floyd Allen in highland park Michigan . The 5 speed automatic is also a Chrysler design . The 4.7 was actually designed by AMC engineers before Chrysler bought them .

@Scottykilmer I've been scrunching my head for a while now why haven't you made any car videos on Ford vehicles?
@Scotty Kilmer Just do a Chevy LS swap on truck problems solved🤷
I have a 2003 Ram 1500 Standard cab. It's been my daily driver since 2006. Great truck. Tough as hell. Still a lot of original stuff too at 471,000 miles.
I'm glad to hear this, pray my truck give me that much life, it's at 151,000.
@@missa1goins Just keep the oil changed and radiator / water pump in good shape and it should!

Awesome! I'm at 125k on my 2012 5.7L no major issues.
A golden sleeper !
These older, mid-2000's Dodge Ram 1500's with the 5.7 L HEMI V8 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission are still running strong and driving pretty good as of today. There is no need to buy a newer used vehicle. Thank you very much.

@@DG-sf9ei The problem is the Chevy 5.3 Vortec was a great motor, just everything surrounding it was crap.

I bought a 2006 5.7 hemi last year, with only 100k on it. I'm pretty darn happy with it so far.
They also created a car like the Pacifica and the little one like the Neon
The Daimler CEO called it "a merger of equals." It didn't take long for the bloom to fall from the rose. Chrysler was making all the money, and Daimler was trying to keep their head above water because they were getting clobbered by Lexus & BMW. Chrysler got royally screwed and never recovered.
Chrysler cooked the books and hid billions in R & D costs. When M/ B found out, they fired 17 floors of execs that lied.
@@richczentorycki2540 the neon was already in production before the takeover
I love it.
Nice. Me too. dodge dakota magnum 360 262,000 miles
01 ram off road edition 258,000 miles. Trans was rebuilt at 120k and rear LSD was replaced with tracklock at 250k when the clutch retainers broke. Still runs strong minus dash core being brittle.
Not one problem? 4mpg is a problem.😂
Seriously though, you haven't had a problem with the intake manifold plenum leaking causing oil to burn? Maybe it was fixed before you bought it. I got 160k on my 360, really only issue I have. Want to get it fixed but if I got to tear all that down might as well put some heads, cam, and good intake manifold 😂
01 ram 1500 and not really had much big problems. My cyl 4 is misfiring now but overall thats the biggest expense i would have to spend but if im having to spend that i may as well rebuild the trans ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ shes my first vehicle and i love it
@@kdcustoms1272 Probably 9mpg lol
My 05 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi has been flawless mechanically except the usual wear and tear items. The 5 speed trans like some have stated on here has 6 gears using a 2nd prime gear for downshifting from 5th at highway speeds, it only uses 5 up shifts tho. Great truck, not the most comfortable but it's the last of the "real" trucks made, not like these 100k $ Cadillac wus trucks of today. Mine can really take a beating without skipping a beat.
I have the same at 194k ❤
I have a 2004 dodge ram 4.7 magnum automatic trans bought new. Best truck ever bought. Still own it 20 years later and it has 250,000 miles original engine and transmission. Knock on wood I can get another year or two out of it. All I have done to it is regular maintenance.
2003 4.7 mag. Amazing truck so far only 70k on the clock.
Gotta ask, when did you find the timing chain needed replacing with yours? Know it can vary truck to truck but be interesting to know how long it lasted for you?

That's great. What engine does yours have?
That's awesome!
I've got an 04 1500 with the Hemi. Bought it used, wrecked it. Rebuilt it and still going strong!
My father had a 2000 Dakota with the 3.9 that truck was rock solid. 260,000 miles on it when he passed away. Someone's still driving it now.
I got 96 dodge ram 3.9 with 42r it's got 500,000 if it's a rebuilt motor or what I don't know but it's a damn good engine
There are several transmission rebuild manuals out there that would have guided you through a rebuild of the 42rh. Have rebuilt several of the larger units, and they are relatively easy to pull down and rebuild, you will have to fabricate several tools, however.
I've owned 3 ram 1500's, 2012, 2016, 2022 and have loved them. No issues
Well hell your oldest one is only 9 years old
Driving a 2000 ram 1500 5.9L V8 it’s got 300k miles, transmission rebuilt once, absolutely love it. Built in December ’99
still got my 03 2500 cummins.
My daily driver is a 23 year old Dakota R/T with a 5.9 V8 and I love it.
I’m thinking about getting a 2003 rt myself
Same. Mine is a 2001 club cab.
04 300k miles only replaced water pump and exhaust so far
Nice!
Have the 02 4.7. 215,000. Runs like new
Our family has both a 1500 5.7 for a winter truck and a 2500 5.9 cummins which hauls our trailer in the summer.
Best Cummins 03-05 hands down.
My dad has an 2003 dodge 2500 5.9 Cummins automatic. 300,000 miles all stock, still running great.

The transmission in that truck is technically a 6 speed. Mechanically it's basically the same as the 65RFE, but instead of using all 6 gears, two of them take turns being 2nd gear depending on whether you are towing, or if the shift is an up or down shift.
Truth
That’s weird I didn’t know that existed lol I know the old 4AOD, 4R70, and 4R75s in all the V8/RWD Fords 2011 and back, like in my 2010 crown Vic, sounds and acts like a 6 speed for some reason. It can be pretty tricky telling what gear you’re in cause they shift so smooth.

Had a single cab one of these as my first truck. Drove it like a teenager for around 70,000 miles and never had any real issues I can recall besides an exhaust hangar breaking.

Now today it is an empty field and the Truck plant was leveled to the ground - all gone.

I doubt half a quart is going to make a difference in an engine that takes 7.0 quarts or more, so half a quart is the problem, lol.
A motor low by 1.5 quarts will still run good. You just can't dog it all the time and you shouldn't do that anyway if you want the engine to last.

Unreal.
The guy I bought my truck from called the engine a unicorn and I never understood why
in reference to the keyway problem, they make what they call a step key, one side is bigger, you can measure the damaged side and come up with a size that can be ground down to mimic the damaged keyway in such a way that it has to be tapped in with a piece of brass, while at the same time you have bought a key that fits the undamaged key of the part that slides onto the shaft. at the machine shop we also did maintenance work like this all the time , the customer had a machine down and they were losing big money any time it was down and we did stuff like this all the time, do it right and you will never have any more trouble rather than tear the machine down for days or weeks

You need 45 psi or better, not the 39 psi at 500 rpm
I trade my trucks every 200 thousand miles and my kid still has my last hemi running strong at 200 k plus.
I shut off 7 and 8 gears when I tow heavy.
You can shut off gears?
@@tsmith4719yes, on the steering wheel buttons
I have a 2010 Chrysler 300A with a 5.7 Hemi with over 114,000 and runs great and a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi over 124,000 and still running great.
Not sure I understand Scotty...The newer Rams have the German 8 speed transmissions in them that Scotty had said were good transmissions...Now he's trashing them? I don't get it...
Scotty doesn't always get why Scotty goes back and forth on things either lol
I’ve got a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, 4.7 L engine, and I keep it in perfect shape. Anything needing maintenance or repairs, I have it done. 160,000 miles so far, and it will go anywhere and haul everything. Had it from new and it’s a great truck.
Ive got an 03 Durango with the 4.7, but ive replaced the engine at 150k (not the engines fault but my own). Still a great engine and a great SUV.
Love my 2005 Durango 5.7 Hemi Magnum!! Will drive this for another 20 years, so dependable and almost lifts the front tires off the ground.
5.7 isn’t a magnum
@@diablocls55Sure i have the Same, 2005 5.7 Hemi Magnum
I got a 2002 dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9L v8… everything runs great but the gas mileage sucks
My 07 Durango(hemi) has been good to us but needed an intermediate steering shaft. Part is discontinued with no known aftermarket part. Sad I had to install a junkyard part from a Durango with more miles than mine.
I hate it when that happen. They discontinue the part and then nobody else makes it ☹️
I love my 2004 ram 5.7. I’ve replaced a lot of parts because it has 258000 miles on it. It’s definitely worth keeping. I’m hoping to get another few years out of it. I’m glad you appreciate them like I do.
Spoken like a true car surgeon! Thank you for the info!
I have the same year and color and it had 100,000 miles on it. Now it has 208,000 thousand miles and it keeps on trucking. Love this truck!!!!
I still miss the 318's and 360's... I still have a '97 witha 360 in the woods that I may pull out and work on for plowing.
Bought an 04 Hemi from a friend. Almost 200k and still going strong. He has a 250k 05 that is as well, minus a not so great transmission when it's cold.
Just a nice man to listen to as well as his knowledge, thank you Sir
Love my ram 2016 sport with 300000km, still going strong! Definitely buy a new ram again!
Put a new Red top Battery in it, New Battery clamps, New Key fob battery,
I replaced the TIPM with a used one from Ebay and same exact issue continues and afterwards I took apart the OME one and found all fuses to be good, no discoloration, no rust stains, everything is as new looking and even smells new and I did the Hard rest than where ya disconnect the battery and hold the cables together for an hour plus. Nothing. Fix Me Ideas?!!
I own the exact truck, even the same color. I bought it used with 70K miles. It now has 160k.
I have an '04 Jeep Wrangler, it's been great all these years. Thanks Daimler!
i have an '01 wrangler, and it's been costing me some money
I had an 03 Grand Cherokee. It was the biggest unreliable POS I’ve ever owned. Thanks Daimler!!
@@sorrowcat2724 they definitely don’t make the Cherokees like they use to! I’ve got a 1999 with over 300k miles. Still running like a champ.
We have a 2003 Ram 1500 4.7 V8 quadcab with 272k on it. Original motor and transmission and it runs like a dream!
The camshaft/lifter issue has nothing to do with the quality of the engine. It has to do with owners not doing their oil changes.
Not always.
It's mostly due to lack of oil reaching the valve train, smaller oil galleys = less lubrication= chewed up cams.
@@Fiden6666 My late Uncle had an early 60s Ford Galaxie with the 292 V8. That situation you posted is exactly what eventually killed the engine in the early 70s. I've seen a fix on YT that corrects that problem now. Wish my Uncle had been able to do that. He had to sell the car.
my 5.2 magnum has over 270k on it and still runs great...
Same here mine has 264 k still going strong
Shoulda just cleaned the old egr, it’s still good.

I got a 2006 4.7 ram, it’s been running strong even tho it’s not the strongest engine, it’s still enough for me as a high school senior.
I own a 2003 Dodge Durango 4.7l with 225k miles. I'm very surprised it still runs.
In my opinion it’s the best engine dodge uses that isn’t a V8. I have a 200s with the 3.6 and it’s the only reason i own the car
A dealer mechanic? Bypassing emissions equipment. 😳😏🤷♂️🤫🤭
What about a Cummins ? From 1990-2010 years ?
Great engines if you can find one that doesn’t have 400k on it.
Even with 400000 if it’s been taken care of the engine won’t be a concern.
I have a 03 (I bought new) with a 4.7 V8 and it's got 209k and still runs great.
I mean i'd rather have a reliable 350 horsepower motor in a truck than something close to 400 and gonna grenade in 5 years or possibly less. The tip for those 5 speeds is to make sure you change the little filters in them. a lot of the time those screens get clogged and start causing problems. my brother had to do it in his 2005.
i have both .... 2005 and 2013 and the 2013 has given me zero problems.
Dakota 2004 sport i gave it up
2000 4.7l with 271,000
4.7 are thirsty little motors
