My mistake: you can set 24fps and 1/50 shutter in Filmic Pro. There's a 50hz shutter setting in the same menu where you set frame rate. There's also a blog version of this video, if you want to refer to it: momofilmfest.com/filmic-pro-vs-mcpro24fps-android-camera-app-for-video/

This is the first I'm hearing of McPro24fps but it seems really good. Will definitely give it a shot. Seems to have better reviews on the Play Store than ProTake.
I've used Filmic for my past few videos and now that I got the hang of if I really love it. Would love if you could take a look at some of my vids and give me some feedback. All the vids are shot on my S10 Plus.

I think the main question here is if it works better on given devices, because as we all know Filmic pro has many compatibility issues with most Android devices. When I asked Filmic Pro's technical support what Android device it works best on, they suggested Samsung s10 and note 10, but even the users of these particular devices claim to have problems and crashes.

    • @servianx394

Although I have Note 10 plus (exynos) and I'm happy how filmic works in general there are moments when I'm tired of seeing how controls flip vertical and they won't flip back to horizontal position ehh (restart is the solution only)

6:45 So, in order to gain access to higher frame rates like 120, you need to turn off GPU. I get that, but when you want to access the color profiles 9:59, you need to have GPU on. This obviously will go against what I want to use personally (Flat or LOG with 120fps). So has this been updated recently so that you can have access to both at once now or is it still an either/or option?

I think in this case the choice comes down to whether its close enough to FP to negate the need for a subscription to that app. For those that are asking the question, I think the answer would be a resounding yes.

Hello, thank you for uploading a good video. I have a question. Can these two apps support hdr for 4k 60fps? And as of now, which app would be better to use for Android (I'm the LG G8 model)? Since I am a beginner in video, I prefer to be user-friendly and have less video editing (including color control).

  • @gunchief0811

From what I've gathered this app caters more to android users.
And also offers at least 7 things that the filmic pro app does not offer to me that makes this the better app for me. But
It's up to each individual film maker to figure that out dor his or herself. Nut really overall a great job in designing and development of this app for cellphone cinematography.
Just a great support tool to have in ur arsenal of tools to use...
Now its about practice and repeating the success and I'm sure there will be updates ahead so it's worth the 14.99 price tag tag in my opinion....

Questions: Do any of these apps let you change the autofocus speed ? The speed how fast or slow it pulls automatically between the focused areas?
I am torn a bit between these two. I need maybe a bit more simple UI but definitely want to experiment with flat profiles... and 10 bit as well but that is supported by both.
I wish you put up a developer team and make a video app for us!

It's funny the things you say about mcpro being cluttered and looking complicated, that's exactly how I felt and still do feel to some degree about filmic pro. I think you just think it's easier to use because you use filmic pro all the time. But filmic pro definitely looks cluttered and is complicated to use for a beginner. I like mcpro's visual buttons more than filmic pro. I'm a visual person and I can more easily associate a feature with an icon than with menu systems.

I applaud competition for FilmicPro, even though I very much like that app. The UX implementation on McPro24fps is clearly "1.0", so what we are seeing is the initial expression of what these developers think a proper UX needs to be, with refinements to come over time. Personally, I found FilmicPro completely intuitive right from the start even though I have almost no video experience. So, that's where I'll stay.

When using Filmic Pro and my Xiaomi 9T Pro with the 'standard' settings for cinematic footage, I get a completely blown out, overexposed screen. As soon as my shutter rate is at 1/48 it's unusable. Whereas in McPro it's absolutely fine. Any ideas on this, Simon? It frustrates me that Filmic is supposed to be for smartphone cinematography yet the default settings for cinematic footage are impossible to use on my phone without an ND filter! I believe Filmic have not listed the Xiaomi 9T Pro as being compatible with in this post: filmicpro.helpscoutdocs.com/article/53-android-device-compatibility good to know that McPro works well though. Pixel4: MCpro24fps has better video quality but does not support shutter below 1/60 and 48fps which Filmic pro does. Sux, both devs should work together to make the killer app for double the price lol.

By far the best alternative to FilimicPro now that they have sneakily underhandedly switched people who paid for it outright over to a rip off subscription. Dump FilmicPro and switch to this. Spread the word!
