@WHO_TEE_WHO Hey Who Tee, I've got some DT Hunter ammo 10mm 230 grain WFNGC Hardcast. I'd mail you 4-5 rounds for another comparison if you're interested.
Great video man guns .I carry every day a man gun just like you.Keep them coming .Can you test a 357 on clay ..I carry the 40 and the 45 .Ga talking. But i carried the 45 in the Marines .
I'd liked to seen a 10 mm round closer to the same weight as the 45 ACP. I think the results would have been close to the same. However, a side by side should be close to the same.
The ways things are these days is thta you are able to do a lot of defense with MANY calibers. There is no limit of choices. (many men have been killed with a $25 .32 Iver Johnson)(they used t be $25 at the hardware store).. many men did grocery shopping with a .22 over/.410 under..(and a Shakespeare bass rod) walking along a RR track. today we have variety of choices and they'll do the job. STILL the WHO-TEE-TOO videos are the best! Well, Hickok too (he's in Tennessee also) and paul harrell ,, they are the best for explanation and objectivity
I did a quick calculation and according to the velocity of each slug and their weight, the 10 mm round has 60% more kinetic energy. I have not seen the video yet, but the 10 mm round is going to do a LOT more damage no matter what you hit with it.
Except that the 9mm kills more people than any other round. the FBI concluded that the 9mm round is the all around best handgun caliber for carry. Look up their research. If they the FBI don't know what their talking about then who does?
@@howardtrix3145 not that I'd put much stock in the fbi anymore but I'm pretty sure .22 kills more. I could be wrong & I don't have time to check it this morning but that 1st number seems dependant on the laws of the area & usage. As for what they finally picked... yes they picked 9mm in the end because of modern powders & the low recoil which most got better scores on. That doesn't make it the best "all around" as much as the best for a variety of people as a standard. Obviously 10mm is better if you're of a larger frame with more dexterity. .40 & 9mm seem close but still depends on the user's size & strength of dexterity. Just different ballistic purposes. For most women, my mum, & elder men I know I always will suggest 380 or 9mm. It's a balance of purpose & strength/ dexterity of the user. I can handle 10mm, for my mum I recommend 380. Anyone between I suggest 9mm, which reflects the fbi using 9mm. That would give the best average score for an average size & strength of dexterity.
@@howardtrix3145 I shouldn't forget to mention 45... even with a bigger hole I'd rather have more capacity with 10mm & more penetration. It also has its place for a bigger hole but moving slower. Since the recoil is close to 10mm I'd prefer more rounds & penetration with 10mm than the bigger hole and hit from a 45. It's all relative & since we don't have to all get one gun I suggest everyone try them all & choose what works best for their size & dexterity.
I've carried a 45cal for 30 years. Great for what I need it for. I live in the city and I've seen up close what a 45 does to a man and it will do what it was made for. 10mm would be a great caliber for folks in rural settings. Great for hikers, campers and hunters.
I have both a Glock 29sf and 30. I carry both one on my hip and one in my bag I switch them as I want. Also a .357 on my drivers side door of my vehicle.
The 155 gr bullet used in the 10mm is about the lightest and fastest while the 230 gr .45 is probably the heaviest and slowest standard load. I wonder how a 185 gr .45 ACP would have compared, or a 180 gr 10mm?
Precisely. This "Test" is no test at all based on projectile weight. Its actually insulting to ones intelligence. This guy could have done a much better job by just simply testing 200 grain projectiles for each caliber.....
@@marblemarble7113 As I interpret the title "10mm vs. 45 acp hollow points for CDC" its pretty clear that the idea was to compare the 2 calibers to determine which is better. The issue I have in the comparision is the disparity in the weights of the projectiles. A much more accurate "comparison" would have been accomplished simply by using readily available 200 grain loads in both calibers.
You know times are tough when a gun channel has a total of 4 rounds fired in a video.. Round counts definitely going down everywhere😞. Cheers to makin do with what u got bro. Keep em coming WTW!!
Great video. I was a 45 guy for about 20 years. But for the last 5 years I’ve been a 10 mm. They are both great rounds. I like the 45 if I’m going with a suppressor. But for dead stopping power and greater distance the 10.
I got both and carry them both, but not at the same time... outdoor track walking and trail walking in the town park, I carry my .45 xds, and in the mountains and back country I carry my G-20 or 29 as well as road traveling... I love both, and will continue to use them...
I was attacked by a clay block one night in a parking lot, and it was one of those rare occasions that I was unarmed. The good news is that all I had to do was walk quickly away. It was almost like the clay block wasn't moving at all.
I was also attacked by a clay block. Unfortunately i only winged it. As a moved in the put it down, i couldn't go through with it out of respect for mr bill. With a little care and love it made a full recovery and is now working in a pre school with children.
As a former military, I like 45 ACP, because it was always intended as a big defensive round and defensive situations are most often going to occur within 30 feet.
It's definitely a good defensive round but with barriers it sucks. The 10mm with a full 10mm load is way more power. A 9 is better than a 45 in some situations
I will give the nod to the 10 mm as the more powerful cartridge however the one difference with the two rounds I see is the .45 auto is firing the heaviest bullet in its weight range and is subsonic. The 10 mm has one of the lightest bullets I've ever seen in factory rounds. I will say because of '20/'21shortages that probably only gave you limited options. If the .45 had 185 grain XTPs and the 10 mm had 180 or 200 grain XTPs I would see that as a close match & want to see what they do to the clay!
@@Getclappedboyeeee Never said they were proportional, I said they are almost INVERSELY PROPORTINAL. I know the difference, I own and shoot both since 1983.
Great video! Very entertaining. Carried 45/10mm Glocks alternately as my duty guns for 12 years. Currently, carry a 45 ACP/ 10 mm/ 45 Super Glock 21 conversion in Wyoming bear country, so this video really connected with me. Thanks again.
Well now that was a interesting video and I knew that the 10 mm being lighter bullet and faster feet per second would do more damage to the clay and it is just generally considered that the 10 mm around is more powerful than a 45 ACP. However I will stick with the 45 ACP the ammo is cheaper and easier to find.
yeah the 10mm just has more energy ft lbs, that being said it doesnt transfer its energy ft lbs nearly as fast as .45 which has less energy ft lbs. im sure if you carried .45 +P you could get much better results tho
@@marblemarble7113 either one is going to handle a human threat no problem. I like the 10mm because where I live there are grizzly bears so I need to think about that too
I have both .45 and 10mm. The 10mm holds 13+1 and the .45 holds 7+1.The 10mm is more powerful and has a snappier recoil. Much like a .40 on steroids.. The .45 has a much gentler recoil. More like a push. I carry the .45. Bottom line is both will do the job but which can you shoot better? Of course the 10 can take down big game... but that's another argument..
Dang! This truly was a really fun video. Both of these rounds did a LOT more to the clay blocks than the 9mm and 380. Both of these illustrate in my mind how effective they are-but that 10 mm was off the charts. Thanks for your great content!
Both damn good rounds, 10mm does it for me for the sheer amount of damage it can deal combined with its higher capacity. Also it's generally cheaper, from what I've seen. However, the .45ACP is already a powerful-ass cartridge and boasts a heavier bullet, and as such you shouldn't have to worry about overpenetration with it. On top of that, it's much more controllable thanks to its lighter recoil. As far as bang for your buck (NPI) is concerned, the 10mm wins for its sheer amount of power and capacity, but that also comes with higher recoil. For more human-populated areas, the .45ACP I think is just in the sweet-spot of being good enough and wouldn't be overkill (possibly literally).
I shoot both a lot and love to reload both. 230 grain hp in a standard 45acp pressure is hap hazzard as far as its expansion reliability. Drop the weight of the 45 to 185 and youll get far better expansion reliability, and in the 1000 to 1100 fps in terms of speed(without having to go +p). Or if youre really wanting to jump up the 45s fps, they make the 45 bullets in 165 grain jhp and that will really increase the speed (about 1200fps). Yeah, youll be pretty close to these 10mm at that point and still with a slightly heavier projectile. So for the 45acp guys out there.....just reload. Its not an anemic round at all. Its just a big ass chunk and going to go slower unless you drop the weight of the projectile so you can increase speed safely. Just look at what a 230 grain 10mm travels at. Still faster than these 45s in the video, but not near 500fps faster. More like 100 to 150 in my tests.
After growing up hunting and shooting rounds that can take down big game, shooting a 9mm feels like shooting a .22 when I compare it to shooting my 10mm or .308
I just got rid of my 10 mm. The last determining factor was testing by Paul Herrel. His test showed the ten mm superior to the .45 but only by a small margin. I also am better set up with .45 acp much better. I seriously doubt that an animal that would handily be killed with a ten mm would survive and kill you if shot with a .45. If your first shot fails repeat if necessary. That applies for all calibers.
@@bobgordon1754 Yes!! This is the kind of thinking that makes sense. ALL calibers have certain specific characteristics BUT anything 38 +P or above is formidable. MOST milk bottle type rifle calibers are formidable. (In terms of repelling attacks whether animal or human) a shooter generally fires a whole magazine .. not one-shot then take a look. A magazine might have 5 or even 10 rounds .. 6 rounds of 38 +P and that ends if .. except for maybe Cape Buffalo and most of us have something bigger than that. 357, 45, 44, 30-06 ..they all work .. 223 does the job Maybe more important (these days) is the availability of the round .. or the reload components .. and the level of skill needed to reload and support the caliber ... I agree that 45 ACP, 45 Colt and 357 are very good choices to rely upon. Powders, primers, cast lead, bullet shape, bullet weight, brass, .. dies, powder measures, scales, shelf space, reloading press, all part of supporting a specific gun or set of guns.
G. K. Dalton. The 10mm is an awesome round, but ammo is difficult to find, and it's expensive. The Sig V-Crown 165 grain bullet is perfect for the 10mm. If you reload. STAY AWAY from Alliant BE-86 powder. It melted my RCBS powder dispensers. It leaves thick, black soot in your action.
I carry a G29.4 10mm daily. Good for the hood - good for the woods. Great all around auto cartridge, and stops hogs in their tracks. Underwood 180 grain gold dot for the win! Thanks for the vid good sir.
@@kriskodisko The G40 looks really good bud. My dream Glock is a G20.4 with a fitted 5” Bar Sto barrel and a 21 pound recoil spring. Goodness that would be a beast! I’ve focused my resources on ammo and long guns for the moment though. One day perhaps.
@@lee6077 I own the Glock 29 and I love it... I’ve put tritium/high viz sights on it over their standard sights. It really improves the point of aim, accuracy, and speed. I highly recommend the 29. Also, you can still load the extended magazines when you’re out shooting.... For truly concealed carry, the Glock 10mm are still a bit thick. I don’t carry any of them during the summer unless I’m in the woods. They are too bulky for my taste, though it can be done.
Either one is deadly. For the retooling, resupplying, new gun cost and all that goes along with it, I will stick to my 1911 in .45ACP thank you. Years ago I was on the list to buy one of the first Bren Ten pistols as pushed by Jeff Cooper. But after a year of waiting for magazines, I got my money back.
I've been looking heavily into both of these rounds and I've basically found that for personal protection of lighterweight 4 legged predators and for 2 legged predators, 45 acp is the better option because of cost and lack of overpenetration. For anything bigger or tougher than that the 10mm will be a better option.
What I do know about the 45 acp is that if you look closely, you can actually see the bullet leave the barrel and travel down range. The hollow point starts as a small hole and mushroom's out the back like a pyramid. At least thats the way my hand load's performed, kind of like a double tap whammy all in 1 round.
I don't know if you are aware of the history of the .45auto. It was developed in the 1900s as a "man" stopper during war time. The bullet weight, powder charge, and velocity made it the perfect round for close quarter combat. It also worked very well in the thompson sub machine gun which was effective against the Japanese in the Pacific. I am partial to the .45 for it's place in history, but, I also own a Glock 20 in 10mm. I prefer both of those cartridges over the .40s&w. All the cartridges you demonstrate are good in their own right. It is just a matter of feeling comfortable with what you use for what ever reason. I STILL enjoy watching your videos and will continue. Keep on busting clay blocks.
@randyadams03; Sir, since the standard .45 acp is a proyectile that travels at subsonic speeds it would be interesting to see the .45 acp 230gr +P compared to the 10mm. The .45 may not win the contest, but it'll be interesting to see how a .45 performs at supersonic speed (1,000 ft/sec). That been said, the placement of the ammunition is an extremely important factor even if anyone needs to defend themselves with a .22 short. Keep up the good work!. Take care
I have carried 45acp since the corp. Have 10mm/40 S/W. The 45 is my favorite. I do carry and shoot the 40 more lately. I do reload. 10mm are expensive to shoot if your buying ammo. Bottom line. Carry what your comfortably with. One good shot wins every time...
Well everyone else was shooting hand loads of 9mm I was shooting 10mm. I explained I bought the ammo pre ammo crisis. They said even before it’s still shows I’m rich. Granted 10mm was 5 times more than 9mm then... now all ammo is 5 times more... so anyone shooting 9mm is rich 😂
Funny. When 9mm price first shot up last year, as it was first hitting a dollar per round - I bought 10 mm. ~.80 per for boutique defensive ammo plus 1000 rounds of practice ammo at 0.30 per. Less than double pre-pandemic price of 9mm and FAR less than current prices. It’s more about timing than caliber :)
I was debating between a 10mm and a 45acp 1911, this video 100% sold me on the 10mm. Appreciate you a lot my friend, hope your RUclips Chanel flourishes.
357 Magnum to. For the most part, the 110 to 125-grain JHP bullets are best. At 1,300 to 1,440 fps, these bullets expand quickly, fragment and produce an effective wound channel. The Hornady Critical Defense at 1,380 fps doesn't fragment and produces an impressive balance of expansion and penetration.
Sorry that I missed the premier. I just bought a 10 mm not long ago for the power of the round and the double stack capability. I still love the 45 acp, but having 8 rounds verse 14 is a big difference. I got it mainly for carrying around in the boar hog infested wood that I hunt.
You know, now that I think of it I got a Taurus in 45 acp and I think it is a double stack. It's one that I got from my step-father because he has Alzheimer's and needed to offload a lot of his guns. I gave my mother about $3k to help cover the cost of several guns and this is one of the guns that I got. I haven't even fired it.
Hi Mark, In many states, a handgun must have a 6" barrel & produce a minimum of 500 foot pounds of energy. 9mm & 45acp come close, but no cigar. You can special order a 6" barrel or get a muzzle brake that attaches to the barrel - then it's legal. Check your states laws before going afield.
Kinda neat how much of the clay squirts back at you. I'm a fan of the XTP projectile. Ever think of trying to catch the bullets after going thru the clay?
Just bought a desert eagle 1911 chambered in 10mm, and all I can say is, thank you for this video. Moreover, your “I don’t care if you carry a .22 as long as you can hit what you’re aiming at” is just about the best thing I’ve heard across any of the firearm channels. From the first video I saw of you comparing a 12ga slug with a 45-70 against cinder blocks, I’ve been a fan. I love your channel, brother.
45 for me. I own both 45 acp and 10 mm semi-autos, and the 10 mm doesn't impress me as practical. I am concerned about over penetration. As for just shooting something macho and powerful, I'll take a 41 mag. You need a big gun for it, of course, it's a bit much for EDC. The Colt Commander in 45 acp is my idea of best choice here.
45 is the most useless round. The 230g going 888 fps is producing 402 ft lbs of energy. The 10mm is making 627. The 45 has the least amount of capacity, least accurate at longer ranges, heavy to carry, and most expensive.
@@mizzoupatriot8814 that 45 is an impractical round. Low velocity, low capacity, low accuracy at longer distances. My 357 sig with a 125g bullets goes 1500 fps and has 624 lbs of energy. My point is 45 acp is an old out dated round.
I just got a 1911 10mm. Love it yeah its definitely a man's gun for sure brother. I don't carry just for Home D and range. I think it's got more kick then a 45. Powerful and fun to shoot like anything else. Great video brother
I carry 10mm. (Glock 29SF) Versatile round. I have some light loads (sometimes called FBI Loads) which are basically the same thing as a .40S&W. I have some full loads. I also have some heavy full loads (200gr hard cast). Simply swap the mags and I can go from urban environment protection to bear protection.
Great video brother! Did not expect that big of a difference. Would love to see the same test with FMJ. That way we could see what weight versis speed does. 😁keep the videos coming !👍
Thanks for the video. For anybody wanting to debate it...the 10mm is just a heavier hitting round hands down. If you compare same size, same loads/powder 10mm still wins every time. The question is do you want the extra power for an EDC!? They are both man stoppers and more than enough! I have a 45, 10mm, 9mm and 380. Usually carry the 380 or 9mm and feel very comfortable doing so!
I love both calibers personally. I used to carry a Glock Gen3 in 45acp. Loved that gun but when ammo prices shot up a few years ago I had to sell it and get a 9mm Springfield Armory XDS. Because I simply couldn't afford to train with the 45acp and I'm a firm believer that you have to train with your carry guns and any other guns you own. As most people know shooting is a perishable skill and if you're not training you are just putting yourself and others at risk if you can't hit what you're aiming at.
The 10mm had 49.6% more impact energy and 3.7 % more momentum than the 45 at the muzzle. Your test distance was only a few yards so effectively still in that ballpark. A light fast bullet is always going to dump energy rapidly and make a dramatic impact. I suspect if you needed penetration the 45 would do better, however a light bullet in the 45 would be pretty dramatic on the clay. Nice fun video as usual, but take care of your eyes at that distance on exploding clay.
Trust me, the animal or bad guy will never know the difference. The .45 has had a stellar reputation for more than a hundred years. If it was as bad as some say it wouldn't have been in service past WW I. Many companies are still turning them out and both special ops and swat teams still use them.
Great vid, but, this compared a "heavy for caliber" .45 round against a "light for caliber" 10 mm round. I think the .45 would have picked up a bit more energy in a 185 grain loading and closed the gap a little. That being said, 10mm is superior for sure either way anyhow, and I need one in my life lol
EDC should be the one that is comfortable enough to wear EVERYWHERE, able to access rapidly, able to hit MULTIPLE targets MULTIPLE times in the shortest time. Hits with a 22lr are more likely to stop an assault than misses from the 500 S&W. One should carry enough to put 3 HITS on 3 moving targets. Few handguns will make one shot stops with toro hits. When one observes how a deer or pig runs after being shot in a non-CNS area, the time it takes it to expire can be transferred to the time an attacker can still be doing mayhem to YOU. The 500 with its 5 shot capacity really makes it tough to fulfill that test, whereas the autos that hold 7+ give a bit more "wiggle room" with faster reloads. Using a lighter bullet in either the 45ACP or 10mm will reduce recoil which allows faster followup shots. Man may have been created from clay, but is not clay anymore. That said, it was "a really fun video".
I just found this 7 months after it was posted. Interesting video. Would like to see a similar comparison where bullet weights are closer. However, from this video, it seems more like that the .45 will expend more of its energy on your intended target rather than cause collateral damage after exiting the target. Do you have any thoughts on this that would either confirm or possibly disprove my thought process? Thanks!
Don't use Hornady after last week's disclosure about their Corona-mandatory employment practices. Anyway you could present this interesting video with different ammo brands? I'll check back occasionally to see. Salutations!
@@joshp7819 mandate by the government is not law. It is also is totally unconstitutional. It violates HIPA, the fourth and 14th ammendment. Good luck enforcing.
I love the 10mm, but I would prefer to carry a .45. With the 10, I would be more concerned about over penetration or what all would happen if I missed...
Over penetration is a non issue because how much energy can a carry pistol round even have left after hitting the intended target ? Unless you are dumb enough to use FMJ ....it’s still going to dump a good deal of energy even if it’s FMJ. MISSES are always bad so it doesn’t matter what caliber you got if you miss and hit a bystander....it’s bad no matter what.
Slow and heavy penetrates deeper at times, that high velocity 10mm expands fast and loses power quick. Id bet a brick of .22lr and a box of .30-30 that the 230gr xtp in .45 would out penetrate the 155 xtp in 10mm, in say ballistic gel or bad guy.
@@fruitfarmfords8243 10mm’s generally penetrate much deeper then a 45, especially when it comes to hardcast or mono metal slugs. Slow 45’s also tend to be deflected much easier by denser materials, such as metal, or heavier boned creatures. And heavy and slow doesn’t guarantee penetration, generally speed does. A 5.56 green tip will penetrate a solid 5-6x deeper, through very dense material, then a 12 gauge 3” brenneke slug will.... Paul Harrell did a video on that I believe. Long story short, on weak humans a 45 ACP is still king. Big hole, generally stops in target, dispersing all of what little energy handguns have into the target. 10mm is the auto loader king for woods carry. Well, maybe second to a .50 AE, but that’s not much of a comparison...
@@fruitfarmfords8243 I’d bet double that it doesn’t matter either way because both are still just basic handgun rounds and over penetration is a non issue. It’s the misses you need to be worried about. People watch too many movies or repeat too much nonsense. As long as you know enough to carry proper defensive ammo , if you hit your target the odds of the round passing through and hitting someone beyond it with enough velocity left over to be lethal are pretty much nil. Not to mention.... if you are in a situation that’s so life or death that what’s behind your target isn’t a consideration before pulling the trigger then what choice did you have anyway ?
Great video. Kind of surprised me. I thought in that sized clay block, the 45 would do a big power dump and best the much stronger 10mm with a lighter bullet that I thought would have less of a power dump. I was wrong. Both rounds performed well but even that lighter 10mm rocked the concert and took the prize.
Love the 10MM. I load my own and when I want blazing speeds I use a 165gr HP and when I want to go heavy I usually load 180 to 200gr. New Starline brass every single time. Usually with maximum loadings I can push the 165gr bullets to around 1525 FPS and the 200gr around 1225. 180gr seems to be the halfway mark around 1350 FPS. The 165's produce less felt recoil while the 200's are a handful.
I've been wanting a 10mm to carry in the woods for the rare occasion when I bear decides to get aggressive. Your clay test did nothing to change my mind. That was pretty impressive.
THAT is the reason to carry a 10mm, and probably the ONLY reason, in our litigious society. I carry a Glock 20, loaded with Double Tap WFNGC (Wide Flat Nose Gas Check) ammunition, but only as a camp gun and only because I've had a mountain lion stalk my camping site once... and I see bear nearly every time I camp near the Black River in northern Arizona. If you shoot someone about to rape your wife, an anti-gun district attorney, and they are everywhere, will ask you why you didn't shoot the perp with a 9mm handgun. You'll be placed on "trial" for the caliber of your firearm, not what you did with it.
Two totally different rounds with totally different purposes. Not in the least surprised the 10mm was more graphic, it's a much faster round, that will penetrate a lot of things. The .45 is a heavy slow round that is meant to stop in the body it hits and deliver all of the kintetic energy. Not a great comparison in my opinion. That being said, I love my 1911 .45.
Which one do you think is better for animal defense? Coyote, charging boars, or even bears? I hunt hogs here in TX and I've been carrying a 10mm Glock as a backup for my rifle, in case of a charging hog, when I'm hunting on the ground instead of a raised platform, but I have had the opportunity to use it yet (thankfully)
10mm for me. I carry mine when hunting for protection when the bolt action would not be fast enough or the animal gets to close. Hasn't happened yet and hope it never does. Lol.
Ok, 500fps over the 45, both still left lots of clay on the bench. I watched you smoke that clay block with the 357. The 45 held up well against the wanna be mag. Remember the 45ACP is a military round designed for defense against a drug driven infantry and it worked. Its the first true Zombie killer. My choice for personal protection.
@@lm-usmc lmao the 10mm anemic compared to a hot 357. loaded to potential the 357 carrys over 900 ftlbs 10 mil not even close and right about 3 times a 9mm . i can see everything you know about guns is from movies and video games .. the 2 # 1 one shot stops are 357 mag then 45 acp .
Jesus Christ man that comment about carrying a man’s gun, can’t even argue my guy that things beautiful my guy. Made me love the g21 even more good video bro 🙏🏻🫡
I see the 45 ACP being good for home defense since its slow moving and shouldn't over penetrate as much as other rounds. I have pistols chambered in both calibers and prefer the 10mm more but might be overkill for EDC.
that hornady load is actually some of the weakest 10mm factory stuff i have ever seen, should get 1500fps with that light of a bullet. Spec for 10mm is 200gr bullet at 1200fps, or 180gr at 1300fps
I carry my Glock 20 concealed every day in Phoenix. I love my 10mm, I feel very comfortable with 16 rounds and a couple extra mags of 10mm on me, it’s also good for taking camping and can be used for hunting! Very versatile gun/cartridge.
Truly appreciate you watching the videos!!!

STILL the WHO-TEE-TOO videos are the best! Well, Hickok too (he's in Tennessee also) and paul harrell ,, they are the best for explanation and objectivity
I can guarantee that if you shoot anyone in their clay block, they are absolutely done!

That was funny, jajajaja
I did a quick calculation and according to the velocity of each slug and their weight, the 10 mm round has 60% more kinetic energy. I have not seen the video yet, but the 10 mm round is going to do a LOT more damage no matter what you hit with it.
I love the high-pitched voice for the 9mm 😂😂
😝😝😝
Lol. It's a cute lil thing.

The 155 gr bullet used in the 10mm is about the lightest and fastest while the 230 gr .45 is probably the heaviest and slowest standard load. I wonder how a 185 gr .45 ACP would have compared, or a 180 gr 10mm?
Exactly what I was thinking.
Precisely. This "Test" is no test at all based on projectile weight. Its actually insulting to ones intelligence. This guy could have done a much better job by just simply testing 200 grain projectiles for each caliber.....
@@fxromer122 it wasnt meant to be a test of both calibers it was meant to be a test of the two hollow points
10mm still hits harder because its a longer case. 185g 45 acp has 84 ft lbs of energy less than the 180g 10mm both being underwood ammo.

I was attacked by a clay block one night in a parking lot, and it was one of those rare occasions that I was unarmed. The good news is that all I had to do was walk quickly away. It was almost like the clay block wasn't moving at all.

I've been attacked by numerous 1 gallon jugs filled w/water & found the .45 works great, but never been attacked by clay blocks.

Just got a 1911 10mm!! I love 1911s & 10mm. Great combo. Great video!👍👍
That's what I said and I got no likes, not that it really matters.

You can get 10 round magazines for 1911 from Wilson combat. Changes the balance of the gun substantially but you are not limited to 7 +1.
🤣 I was thinking the same thing! "There's gonna be some hurt feelings!"😂🤙🏻
Dang! This truly was a really fun video. Both of these rounds did a LOT more to the clay blocks than the 9mm and 380. Both of these illustrate in my mind how effective they are-but that 10 mm was off the charts. Thanks for your great content!
It’s crazy how much energy these hollow points generate. It takes a hell of a lot of energy to disintegrate clay like that from a handgun.
Thanks for the video. Get both. I like my 10mm in Alaska, but I like the subsonic .45 ACP, suppressed also.
That made a believer out of me in the 10 mm ! : )

I have 185 grain +p 45's that rival 357 magnum energy. Have seen the chronograph test on said rounds....
Well said, I'd love to see the 45 ACP firing a 165 grain JHP. Now that would have been a comparison.
Why not just get 10mm problem solved?
I grew up on grandpa's colt 45 ACP But I absolutely love 10mm. Both great rounds, can't go wrong with either really.

Dang it Who-Tee.!! I don’t have a 10mm.. now I want one even worse than I did before.. 😂

I've been looking heavily into both of these rounds and I've basically found that for personal protection of lighterweight 4 legged predators and for 2 legged predators, 45 acp is the better option because of cost and lack of overpenetration. For anything bigger or tougher than that the 10mm will be a better option.

Wrong....
That 10 mm did way more damage, but I'll stick with the heavy and slow 45 ACP.
Same, sadly baddies aren't made of clay.
Trust me, the animal or bad guy will never know the difference. The .45 has had a stellar reputation for more than a hundred years. If it was as bad as some say it wouldn't have been in service past WW I. Many companies are still turning them out and both special ops and swat teams still use them.
For real, there is some nice “slow” SD ammo that opens up to 1.00” and pens about 14”… that’s some serious damage!
I'll stick with the .45 just as well. Just because I'm american & I dislike the metric system.
@@bobgordon1754 we American started fighting after the war started so what’s your point? Doesn’t matter
Using what I can find 🤷♂️
"9mm because it carries more ammo" (said in a wimpy mouse voice) 😂
Brother you knocked it out of the park. Clear and concise !
They recanted that memo just a few days afterwards. You need to gt caught up to speed on the news.

Loved that comment in the beginning about a man's gun I carry a Springfield 1911 in 10mm with underwood 200 grain hollow points
That 10mm is a beast. Both are great guns, awesome video as always.
@@sleeper.simulant7327 thats why i said xtp bullets... of course you can get different results with different factors
Sometimes it’s just fun to lob bowling ball sized chunks of lead.
And that boys and girls is why 10mm is my favorite caliber, because it is a real beast.
Yes I love 10mm thank you 😊
10mm. Hands down.
The proof is in the
clay pudding. 😁
I live by my 10mm and will still utilize my .45, both are great...
Love your videos. You are RIGHT. No matter what you carry make sure you can hit your target. Practice all the time.!!!
Appreciate you watching
I'm getting pretty soon Glock 20 10 mm. I got a XD45- 5 inch barrel. Can't wait to compare the two..Thanks. I really like your videos.
Nicely done. Two good accurate shots in a comparison. FINALLY.
Lol.
💪💪💥💥💥
Ok, 500fps over the 45, both still left lots of clay on the bench. I watched you smoke that clay block with the 357. The 45 held up well against the wanna be mag. Remember the 45ACP is a military round designed for defense against a drug driven infantry and it worked. Its the first true Zombie killer. My choice for personal protection.

I see the 45 ACP being good for home defense since its slow moving and shouldn't over penetrate as much as other rounds. I have pistols chambered in both calibers and prefer the 10mm more but might be overkill for EDC.
overkill nah but clay is not flesh 45acp smacks hard ,the clay was moved because of impact speed of the 10mm and it was almost 80grains lighter
I think a comparison of .40S&W vs 10mm would be a good one since the .40 is basically just a short version of the 10mm.
that hornady load is actually some of the weakest 10mm factory stuff i have ever seen, should get 1500fps with that light of a bullet. Spec for 10mm is 200gr bullet at 1200fps, or 180gr at 1300fps
Buffalo Bore and Underwood make the best loads for 10mm I think.
Some guy on here was arguing that the Hornady XTP 10mm was loaded to 10mm Norma spec....I was like yeeeah I don't think so lol.
I love me a .45 acp, but that 10mm kick some major carcass on that poor clay block. Good vid & as always man much respect. God bless.
I carry my Glock 20 concealed every day in Phoenix. I love my 10mm, I feel very comfortable with 16 rounds and a couple extra mags of 10mm on me, it’s also good for taking camping and can be used for hunting! Very versatile gun/cartridge.
