    Similar penetration, the 10mm had a bit more cavitation, but the .40 S&W left more bits of metal in the clay. Either of them would make sure the other guy isn't getting back up, but the .40 S&W is cheaper and easier to find, even if the 10mm is a bit more powerful; after all, dead is dead.

    I hate how people call the .40 wimpy. Is it weaker than 10mm? OF COURSE, but 10 set the bar pretty high. .40 has more power than 9(in an apples to apples test) while only loosing 1 to 2 rounds, all in the same size gun. That's a big deal. No body ever calls the .308 wimpy and it will never be as powerful as 30-06 (again, in a fair comparison) . There are plenty of reasons to pick a 40 over 10, if power were the only thing to consider, a desert eagle would be the only thing anyone would ever need to buy.

    • @sumboredazn
      @sumboredazn 5 лет назад +1

      exactly. 10mm advocates hate on the 40 all the time, but without extensive practice, the excessive 10mm recoil makes accurate follow up shots more difficult, (and in self defense situations thats a big aspect to consider), while the 40 is much easier to control. and seeing how they both expand quite well in soft targets, the 40 still gets the job done, without the worry of over-penetration as well.

    I am sure that when you said slow and weak, you meant it facetiously. Calling .40 S&W Slow and weak compared to 10 mm is like calling Hulk Hogan Short and weak as compared to Andre the Giant. I personally witnessed a 400 lb black bear killed and dropped on the spot with 40 S&W in hardcast flat nose ammo at about 15 yards away from my camping buddy. He hit it right in the neck and it took a couple of steps then went right over. The boar face planted right into the pine needles and was done. Also 180 grain jacketed hollow points doing the same speeds as your 124 grain jacket at hollow points. There's a pretty big difference if you're comparing cartridges. Buffalo bore makes 140 grain jacketed hollow points pushing damn near 1400 ft per second for the 40 Smith & Wesson and extreme penetrators doing 1500 ft per second. 10mm is a definite bear gun. You don't need a bear gun for carry, so a .40 is fine. But a .40 cannot come close to what a 10mm can do on big game with premium ammo. These numbers are Underwood in a heavy stainless Tanfoglio, 4.75" stainless bull barrel. Chronographed. This 220 grain is going 1,240 fps and down to the 155 grain at 1,530 fps.

      Of course you could have had a 10mm that will shoot at those low levels like a .40, and go all the way up to high power in the woods when you need. It will have more recoil then, but that is because it is pushing the same bullet much faster. So a 10mm is a 180 gr at 300 to 750 ft-lbs, and a .40 is just a cut down 10mm limited to 300 to 450 ft-lbs with 180 gr. The .40 just lacks the ability to do that pure 500-750 ft-lbs thing. 10mm carry... www.tanfoglio.it/uploads/catalog/images/piccola3jpg20.jpg

      For concealed carry, I'd certainly choose the 40. A lot of people carry 10mm in bear country with powerful (and expensive) loads meant solely for penetration, as that's what will stop a large animal. JHPs are great for humans, but not great for bears. I own 10mm pistols, but I won't carry them. Where I live, they'd accuse me of using a bear gun on a human. Liberals are idiots.

Everyone who knows anything about firearms and the different calibers already knows that the 10mm has more velocity and more actual stopping power than the 40 SW.
