I would be curious to see what the 200 grain hornady does in 460. The ideal set up is a 460 carbine rifle, with a shorter barrel 460 revolver. The 454 solid copper hollow point could be in your pistol to reduce recoil, yet you could always load the full 460 in as well. I like both of them the. 500 and 460. Tyler Tenkku Mine has never damaged the mounting hardware or the scope but when I first mounted the base it didn't seat all the way in the back and it shot really high. So high in fact that I ran out of adjustment in the scope bringing it back down. I eventually noticed a very slight gap in the rear of the base so I took it off and reinstalled it torquing the rear screws first. The gap tightened right up and the scope centered with in about 10 shots. It has stayed zeroed now for about 10 years. Scope is a 2.5x8 Leupold VX3. Rings are made by Warne.

Did you notice the recoil differences. The 460 was easy very little muzzle jump all rounds. The 500 more but not too bad until it shot that 700 gr cast bullet. It almost got away from him and he is not weakling. I friend have to get stitches in his head when he refused to listen to me about wearing y hard hat when he shot my 700 gr bullets I cast and loaded to max psi spec. The front sight post got buried in the crown of his head and get got a hell of a lump from the barrel smashing into it as well. 6 stitches to close up the full depth gash and a very bad headache for a few days. I warned him over and over but he had a ego. Until you have felt it and learn to hold the recoil the max weight full pressure round get away from 90% of those shooting it and either hit their head or lose the hand off the gun completely and it goes flying. Its my favorite hog handgun by far. Shot thru 2 hogs once and have never had one go more than a couple feet after getting shot. I texas heart shot a 375lb one and the 500 gr fp exited its chest just under the head. Love the gun and after tuning the trigger and adjusting the cone to cylinder and loosing the compensator its much better to shoot. The comp makes it harder to shoot regardless of reducing recoil. It blows way to much gas up and in your face and the concussive blast is stupid bad. I gained about 50-100 fps by reducing the cone to cylinder gap to min spec .003-.004 Also I set my handloads to full cylinder length COAL as it helps accuracy a good bit as you still have case support on the bullet as its also into the cone and engaging the lands.
B/c the extreme penatrator rounds are hollow points designed to expand the second they hit something they fold backwards and become huge as if they arn't already 🤔 SMGDH..!!

I've got a 460 with a 12 inch barrel. I think it would have been a closer test if the barrels would have been the same length. Both have a ton of powder that are being wasted in burn up outside the barrel. Longer barrels more velocity, up to a point that is.
Not getting the gel dirty. Reminds me of telling my 4 year old boy please don't get lunch all over your clothes. Boom 2 seconds later disaster strikes. It never fails lol
Just a thought or suggestion, maybe start with the most powerful bullets first so they are not impeded by the lower penetrating bullets. Thus nothing in their way to hit. Just a thought. Great video.
460 is supposed to push a 200 grain bullet to 2200 fps. That's why I use 454. It's only 1900 fps for a 200 grain. Way safer, not so much overprenetration.
Nearing the tail end of your testing, as your gel blocks become more perforated by the initial rounds shot through them, is it possible that you're not getting a true picture of the actual penetration due to the fact that those later fired slugs are passing through some previously made wound channels that don't offer the resistance as virgin gel block? I still believe your results give a good indication of what to expect from the various types of ammo but, it's not conclusive due to the previously perforated gel block.
IDK, I might have to get the 500. I mean, what if a bear is charging at me? Like, what if the 3 foot wound channel wasn't enough? Im sure the extra 6 inches of penetration would be the difference between killing it and not killing it. What if im geting charged by two bears and i need to go through the first one? What if there's brush in the way? Definitely need the .500.
... That's what I've been thinking. What if some chicoms are invading the US and you need to disable the engine in their troop carrier? What if you're being attacked by 20 angry illegal immigrants near the border but they're all lined up in a column & you need to kill all of them with one shoot (2 shots max?) I can see lots of versatility for either of these rounds.
Thank you! Great vid, Underwood makes very good high velocity and consistent ammo! I'm a Buffalo Bore ammo man but dam if Underwoods velocity and bullet weight ain't more constant and same! Cheeper too. They also make 400 Corbon my favorite semiautomatic round! About as powerful as a 10MM and faster cycling. More power than Corbon's load too. I trust my life with all three company's and feel bad kinda discing the others but I gotta give credit when it's do....
David Becker I agree. I like both companies and will shoot either ammo but Underwood loads just like a nerd with a powder trickle and micro meter and doesn't ever miss on consistently. And the price is fantastic as well. Those of us who don't hand load really don't need to with Underwood as the savings aren't huge and the loads are perfect. You may squeak a bit of performance if you load for your gun but not much. Also unlike reloads from a buddy, you are always safe and under max pressure for a given load but plenty hot to get some fireballs and serious impacts.
+David Becker Your welcome! Yes Underwood makes some great ammunition and I'm not just saying that because they support the channel. I have always been a fan. Thanks for watching!

I gained about 50-100 fps by reducing the cone to cylinder gap to min spec .003-.004 Also I set my handloads to full cylinder length COAL as it helps accuracy a good bit as you still have case support on the bullet as its also into the cone and engaging the lands.
Both calibers are crazy powerful but that 500 is something else. Good video!
Thanks man!
That 700 grain is a monster!
4:40 the rooster after the shot was classic farm shenanigans
Awesome gel test I'm really wanting a 460
I absolutely love mine, and will be getting another
Thank you for all your work. Very informative.
Thank you! No problem.
"Alright guys," i love this channel.
Love the videos!! My performance center 460 is my very favorite gun of all time
Why does it seem like the extreme penetrator rounds penetrated less?
B/c the extreme penatrator rounds are hollow points designed to expand the second they hit something they fold backwards and become huge as if they arn't already 🤔 SMGDH..!!
I've got the 460 xvr and I love it. A buddy of mine has the 500, I've shot that one, but with 350 gr. bullets, that definitely lets you know you shot big bore, I can't believe the recoil of that 700 grain bullet! Holy cow. I'm trying to work up some load data for my 50 Beowulf with that 700 grain bullet. Wish me luck with that. Another excellent video Scott! Keep up the great work.

I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thanks for what you’re doing!
Thanks!
My goodness, recoil on that 700 grainer!
Matt from demolition ranch would be crying from all the 500 magnums being shot because he always complains about the recoil on his 500
I've got a 460 with a 12 inch barrel.
+The Kentucky Patriot Haha ! Sometimes you just can't win lol
Thank You Scott, that was one hell of a test! Wish I was able to purchase both of those guns, maybe some day God willing Again thanks and God Bless!
+Dennis Johnson No problem! Thank you!
Just a thought or suggestion, maybe start with the most powerful bullets first so they are not impeded by the lower penetrating bullets. Thus nothing in their way to hit. Just a thought. Great video.
@phục êwê gel is expensive.
Incredible power of the 500 mag. Wow. Good vids, Scott.
That’s to you sir, I had to buy a 500 magnum!!! Please feed my kids!!
Alright guys, fuzzy science but I did learn some stuff and it was fun as hell to watch. Thanks.
.460 for ammo diversity.
glad I got one for myself
awesome videos , just found your channel thanks to the gun collective. keep the great videos comin!!
Glad to have you and thanks for subscribing!
I'll use the 460 for home defense because the 500 is just excessive and crazy.
460 is supposed to push a 200 grain bullet to 2200 fps. That's why I use 454. It's only 1900 fps for a 200 grain. Way safer, not so much overprenetration.
VEGITAS4 Excessive and what now? 🤓 I’d like to get the 6.5” 500. But I just love those big calibers for grins. Call me crazy.
Better play it safe then sorry ,smart.
Be careful and don’t shoot your next door neighbor too !
Really enjoy all of your videos
Thanks man!
Man, sometimes I wonder how much power these Magnums really have, they are impressive
These magnums HAVE a metric SHIT TON of kenetic energy to 'em 😯🙉🙈🙊..!!
Those hard cast pills are awesome! Thanks for the interesting test.
+Ryan Simpson No problem, Thanks for watching!
64" of penetration ... seems like a good self defense round
Yup... again grizzly bears. pack nothing smaller in the Yukon.
Yep, when you can use a 6-shot revolver to take out a mob of 30 people.
I enjoy watching Dan Henderson shoot big guns.
HAHA! That is funny dude. Not the first time I have heard that.
I ordered from Underwood and the ammo is great! Can't believe they shipped to Massachusetts:-)
+Chuck Person Awesome man!
I use the 500 grain flat point in my edc.
Who are you, kratos 😂
Wow those big boys are powerful not much ballistic data cause they pretty much destroyed the whole dam shooting rang great video!!!
I really enjoyed the video!
That 500 grain soft point would be my go-to for bear defense or hunting. You see the mushroom on that thing. I thought it was a shiitake for a second.
Agreed
An excellent between penetration and expansion.
That mushroom is picture perfect and damn near symmetrical.
TWO bloody great handfuls!
Now those are what I call *B I G I R O N S*
It's the Kentucky Ballistics drinking game! Take a drink each time you hear "Alright guys..."
Teasing, of course. It's worlds better than the way most people annoyingly start every sentence with "So" these days.
Both awesome guns..but I Love my 460...shot a 454 through it and the gun made it feel like a mild round...I think I'll stick to the 460 rounds though, because they feel soooo good to shoot.
... I was thinking get a 500 mag & shoot 500 special in it. I shoot .44 special in my 629 & it's a non-event. Probably be about the same (?)
