Great tuorial but I am not seeing the drives pop up in "This PC". I'm not using an SD card since I have the 1TB Steam Deck. I run the batch file and I'm getting network can't be found for all 3 locations and system error 67.

Very concise and easy to follow guide. The only problem I have is that when I run the batch file (either the generic one or via the link in the description) I get told that the network connection cannot be found on any drive. Apparently I am not smarter than the computer.
Great video, got it to work for me. But file shortcuts don't work because the names are different, and they're uneditable for some reason. There a way to make steamdeck file shortcuts work on the remote pc?
I have done everything in the tutorial, The batch file worked successfully. The problem I have is that when I try to send anything, I get a "Need Permissions" error. I have tried the other suggestions and still no go
After hours of troubleshooting, I found out the issue, somehow after formatting the Sdcard and mounting it with the Batocera image. The folders were given permission to be modified only by the user "root" I tried to change the username and it wouldn't let me, so after hours of troubleshooting. I found out that I had to boot up Batocera, and press "F1" to bring up the file explorer when on the menu screen. Go to "File">"Properties" then select the "Permissions" tab. Then change the option of "what users can modify this directory" From "Only Owner" to "Anyone" close it out, now everything works the way that it should. Thank you for the video, it helped greatly.
Just got a deck and in the process of setting this up, but just a question: Is an SD card required to successfully copy files and such over to the deck? Or does the internal SSD storage count as one? Since you mentioned that the root access (which i assume means that all following folders on the internal storage are part of that) only really shows the part of the internal ssd thats dedicated to running the OS. Just wondering if its possible to for example have a mount point that points to a certain folder on my deck desktop for example, since i'm not really moving any large amounts of data between the two.
Absolutely not. Most people have an SD card so I tend to write my tutorials for the masses. But if you don't have a SD card? You can just remove all references of it from this and use whatever mount point you want. Feel free to drop into the discord if you have more questions.
Thank you!! I got stuck because the name of my SD card had a space in it and it wasn’t getting recognized, reformatted with no spacing and seemed to work for me.
Reboot both devices. Windows doesn't have the best networking stack. If you're on wifi? Wire at least one leg (PC or Deck) - preferably both. The reboot will probably help. Drop in our Discord if you still have issues.
For what its worth I think it would be beneficial to make the SD card prompt on the batch file generator optional. I assume some people may get confused and think this only works if you use a SD card
@@ChewyMovesQuick Most people don't name their cards. So a number is issued instead. You would use your card name instead of the number. If it has any spaces in the name, it will fail.
I previously mounted another sd card that was smaller but now I mounted a larger one. Everything works but on windows it has the name of the 128sd card and Id like it to have the name of the 512 sd card since thats where things are coming to/from ? Suggestions to get that changed ?
Really struggling with the root/SD card mounts. It keeps saying I need permission when I try to do anything to it in windows. I can't copy anything over. I've tried flushing the dns, my sudo password is dead simple, and using the IP does not appear to change anything from just using the hostname. Home works, but root and the sd mount do not.
Please come to the discord. Check the pins. Plenty of things to try - and if you're still stuck? We have people there that can help. If you're not using the web app to create the batch, start there. Removes the "human element".
You shouldn't need to change any permissions. This works out of the box with a freshly factory reset Deck. Maybe pop by the discord and see if we can help figure out the delta here.
Thought I'd ask, is there a security risk to running this constantly? Should I just disable when I'm in public or is it also a risk for your home network? Bit of a noob when it comes to SSH stuff.
@@hhelibebcnofnenamgalsipsclar it you're on a public/untrusted access point, would be a good idea to stop it. As long as you're behind NAT at home? No reason.
idk why its not working for me is it because i dont have a sdcard in my deck? also when im using the bat file it keep saying "System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found." 😵😵😵
I have an SD card. It was set up perfectly at first with this tutorial. Then after my steamdeck reset off and on and SSH no longer detected SD and System error 67 kept occuring when trying to set it up again.
bro i love you. i was going insane, trying to use RustDesk, which always aborted file transfers randomly. was about to cry, but u handed me the tissues. thanks for that!
Im doing everything in the tut 1:1 but instead of "the command completed successfully" im getting "The syntax of this command is:" with a long string of commands, I have no idea what Im doing wrong, it doesnt show me Y or Z. My deck is connected, im not sure what to do
@@Darkuni You are a godsend. I was getting "Error 5" for mounting the SD card and "Error 67" for mounting the Root. Used your web app and now it's perfect. 10/10.
Hi again, I am stuck in the batch file first run, nothing seems to work and this is what I get: "Press any key to continue . . . Setting your connections now ... Setting X: as HOME System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found. Setting Y: as SD Card" Any idea? both PC and Steamdeck are connected to the same network, the deck name is "steamdeck" and I saved my password in the batch file, user name is "deck" and sshd is enabled on the deck and I have a ping active from PC > deck
So I'm getting stuck somewhere and can't get this to work. I got all the way to the mount deck section, but it isn't loading the same way as yours and none of the ports are connecting, so I can't get the SD card ID. Everything else should already be good to go except that part and I'm unsure what I'm doing wrong.
everything worked, but im having an issue where certain folders in the X:\.steam\steam can't be opened and i get this long prompt "X:\.steam\steam is unavailable. If the location is on this pc, make sure the device or drive is connected...etc.etc." Any ideas? Thanks
@@Darkuni it’s all the sub folders inside X:\.steam\steam. These are hidden folders just fyi. I actually found a fix, I came across a Reddit thread where you were helping someone with a similar problem, and they said they fixed it by using the “map network drive” method from your previous video, and then doing “add a network location”. I did both of these steps and it works now.
So on your batch creator tool it asks for the SD Card Drive Name, and when you click the question mark on how to get it, it leads to the timestamped portion of the video on getting the name after the deck has been mounted, which you need the batch file to do. So how are we supposed to create the batch file to help mount the deck, if to get the info to create the batch file the deck already needs to be mounted?
The web app was created well after this video. I need to sync them up better. Put in a BS name like FOO or something for your SD card name and generate the file. Use the file - and the SD mount will FAIL, but the other two will work. Use the Z: drive to go find your sd card name. Then you can cut and paste (easier than typing that long guid) into the web app and generate it again - this time using the real card name. Now? Your batch will mount all three successfully. Hopefully that makes sense.
Hello, this video has been very helpful but I am running into the following issue. I can browse the files on the steamdeck from my computer but I am up to the part where you goto run/media. I only have a file in there called root which I do not have permission to open. I tried going to this same file on the steamdeck itself and I also cannot access the file, and I am using my admin account so I am a little lost :/
@@EthanField-p5j Then this part isn't necessary. The Y: drive references can be removed from the batch file. Since Z: is really just there to find the SD card? You can ditch that entry too. Just use the X: entry.
Cant figure it out i keep getting error. When i click the folerds>run>media>deck i keep getting the errorWindows cannot access \\sshfs.r/deck@steamdeck un\deck . Contact your network admin to request access
Excellent! You might consider assigning your deck a static IP address so that it never changes. Course you need access to your router to do that in a little bit of know-how but it's pretty easy to do.
I followed everything, but I have problem with getting the connection. Rather then seeing X, Y, Z the command doesn't complete successfully and only shows the syntax. I tried the website to generate the batch file, but it still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
There are so many possibilities, I recommend coming to our Discord where we have people that can help you. When you land there, go to #steam-deck and check the pins. We've put a lot of "common" issues there that might let you self-serve. If not, we're available to get you through it.
Trying to access deck home folder via bat file and my PC is saying I do not have permission to access it. I even changed my password to something simple and it still says this. Also did the DNS flush. Any other suggestions?
@@Darkuni yeah oddly enough the permissions on the deck for Group and other were set to No Access and I had to change it to allow modification but it works now (and to pass these permissions on to all subfolders). Figured I’d let ya know so you could pass this on. Thanks for showing us how to do this!
Thanks for the guide! Do you know much about CIF mounts? I had some CIF mounts I edited into my fstab to link my NAS share to my SD card but these just refuse to work after a reboot. Not sure if enabling SSH service changed anything.
It was handy to do this but now every single time I go into desktop mode I get this pop-up window asking for PolicyKit Authentication Agent even though I stopped the service and have restarted it several times
@@Darkuni Fiddled around with some things and did a bit of research. I seem to have gotten it to stop, apparently it was something to do with Freedesktop and UDisk, and I accidently enabled auto mounting, so it was wanting the password I created because it thought it was being mounted every time I switched to desktop mode.
@@kamchhoker1167 It sounds like you have never updated your deck. That configuration hasn't been around since OS 3.4 ... We are on 3.6 now. I would suggest an update! You DO have an SD card inserted right?
@@Darkuni Hey so I updated my steamdeck and the folder showed up and connected to my desktop as well. But now I cant transfer any files says I need permission.
Do I need to change the commands if I have physical drives mapped to Y & Z? I changed the batch file commands to H, J, & K(in both sections of the batch). The Deck drives are not showing up in File Explorer.
The drive letters are really unimportant - as long as you update them, it should be fine. I figured the last three letters would be safe LOL ... Guess I was wrong. Drop into the discord if you need more help - it sounds like your issue isn't the drive letters but something else, potentially.
Reboot both machines and try again. Windows is goofy sometimes ... If you can wire up one or BOTH machines, it will drastically increase the speed too. At least it does for me.
@@KayodeAyodele-m1b Wow, still seems ... Slow. This is what I'm getting ... note: both Deck and PC are wired to ethernet: i.imgur.com/BuMDca6.png Glad it's working for you though...
I can't access the Home (X:) drive. I click it and nothing happens. And the same when I try to access the run/media/deck folder. I double click it to try to access the SD card name, but nothing happens, it just won't open the folder. Why could that be? I followed all the video step by step and set the variables as you did, including the flushdns command at the end.
So I've had this setup for a few months now, but I run into issues where the file transfer starts out fine, gets partially through a file/files, and then the xfer drops to zero and I basically have to reboot my windows PC and my steam deck to reestablish the connection. Any idea what would cause this? Both the PC and Steam Deck are wired via Ethernet to a hub that's connected to my main router.
I'm having difficulty, When it tries to set my connection Setting X: as HOME, it gives me "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied." I am an administrator, I have run the batch file as an administrator, but I am still having this error. Any help?
It is an incredibly generic error message. It could be many things. Please drop by the Discord so we can help you. When you get there, check the pins - we've put a lot of common self-help solutions there.
I'm getting access denied across the board when I use the batch file. System error 5 has occurred for setting X, Setting Y, and Setting Z. I had followed this to the letter up to this point. What did I do wrong?
Several possibilities. The most common issues: wrong password, password contains strange characters, username isn't the default "deck", the network won't resolve "steamdeck" to the Deck's IP (user may have renamed the system name) ... drop into our discord and someone there can help you.
You save my life men, but i cannot undertand all, so i have one question, if i do that on my own windows its dangerous? Cause i see in the vid you use a Virtual Machine isnt it? I did it all an now im worried 😅
The problem I have with SSHFS is that when I try to transfer files, even the smallest size, the transfer process will freeze and not get anywhere. I have been able to transfer one tiny file once before, but it isn't consistent on whether files will transfer or not. It's definitely a personal issue on my end. I've been using a external HDD to transfer files instead.
That's very unusual. If you feel like it? Drop into the discord and let's chat about it. Maybe we can come up with a solution. I'd like to find out what's causing that.
@@Darkuni Just curious if you found a solution to this? I am having the same issue. My transfer speeds vary all over the place from 0 to 20mbps and often freeze for long periods of time. It takes forever to transfer anything. I tried disabling wifi power management from the developer menu, but that doesn't appear to have helped.
@@Darkuni Thank you! So would I then run the Unmount script followed by the cloned script for the 2nd SD Card? As in keep the two scripts seperate depending on which SD Card I am using?
Got the first two mounted and good to go.... I've already mounted and changed the name of the sd card through steam though and i think that's what is keeping me from the last drive getting mounted... And its not showing as a random ID in windows... Any advise?
I'm having an issue of someone can help me... the connection to my steamdeck kinda of "times out" after a while (around 15 mins or less ) I get no notifications nothing about it, and I only know when I go to "file explorer" on my PC nothing loads, like absolutely nothing. So I have to unmount them and remount them again and try one more time
The connection keeps disconnecting for me after a few minutes. I suspect that its because of the Deck's battery management but i can't confirm it. Have you encountered this before?
If you're in Desktop mode, it should help alot. The battery management isn't nearly as aggressive there - and you can control it better there, too. My deck and PC live together on my desk, so I can easily tap the screen to keep it awake (I don't have 50GB files to move there anymore - just a handful of little things from time to time so I'm probably not as affected by it. Do try Desktop mode first - there should be some power settings to keep the bugger awake.
@@Darkuni I tried to test things out further and unfortunately, the mount stopped working due to "system error 5". I'm running the batch file in admin mode but something still restricts access. Do you have an idea what the issue might be?
Hello, I finally got this mounted and thank you for that, however I am not having trouble transfer files from Windows to Steam Deck (I am able to do it from Steam Deck to WIndows). It keeps telling me I do not have enough space when I am transfering over when I clearly do
The exact message is "There is not enough space on mmcblk0p1. You need an additional (file size) to copy these files. I can seem to do it if it's under 2GBish but not over that. My SD Card has 200GB space and right now I'm trying to transfer over a 76gb
@@djricekcn You aren't mapping correctly. Take another look. mmcblk0p1 should not be in the equation AT ALL. Maybe try using the web app: monroeworld.com/steamdeck/sshfs.php
Sorry, i did it with multiple directories but the start (the drive) is from Home but I can't seem to do it regardless of it being SD card or SSD. It does seem to transfer over when it's in a batch of something under 5GB(not sure exact amount) but I can't do it anything higher at once and have to spread them out, which is Abit confusing what I have done already / time consuming gl
I'm at the part where you run the batch file after putting the ID code we copied from the file name. I ran it once and got a System error 5 I looked that up and it seemed I had to run it as an admin Ran it as an admin and got: network connection could not be found (for all three locations.) The deck is still on, hasn't gone to sleep during this tutorial. My network is still on.
UPDATE: Okay so, I just redownloaded the batch file and basically started over from that step. Everything seems to have worked now and I have all three mounted
An update do this guide. I can actually copy files to and from The SD card on my Deck without mounting it. I also have a dual-boot on the deck with Windows 11, and i can copy and paste to that drive as well without mounting it. I simply go to run/media and into the two folder, and it works flawlessly. Why it's possible, I don't know.
My GUESS is that you're copying to a slow SD card on the Deck - and you're wifi on one or BOTH legs. I imagine there is a buffer that has to be "written out" to the destination - and the slower the destination, the longer this is going to take. What if you copied to the SSD instead? I've never had a "completed" file hang my file manager (then again, I don't use File Explorer - can't stand that thing). If you have the means, try wiring BOTH the Deck and PC to the network. See if that helps. Just gotta find the weak link and shore it up.
@@Darkuni Yeah I have a similar problem. Usually the transfer halt randomly about 20-50% with 0 kbps transfer speed, and I can't cancel the transfer from File Explorer so I have to restart Windows. PC is wired to router, Deck on wifi. I copied to the SSD, same thing. Could be because the Deck display dimmed since it's not charged? Or maybe because of the File Explorer itself? What are you using instead of File Explorer?
@@RyoAdidharmaS I never use File Explorer - but honestly it SHOULDN'T make a difference. Can you tell me about your copy session? Tons of tiny files? Big files? I typically don't have LONG sessions with copying - but I've moved hundreds of GB of data in one go. I also am wired on both sides. I use Directory Opus as my file manager. My Deck is DOCKED - on power and I do believe if I see it dim, I wake it up (just to make sure). Drop into our Discord - maybe we can run some scenarios. I'd love to get to the bottom of it all to help others.
@@Darkuni I just tried to copy another file (about 10GB) and it's stuck at 40% ish. It happened randomly, sometimes it's flawless but often it just stopped working like this. This time, my Deck is also docked. On power and display always on. Still the same thing, so I don't think it was the issue. I tried using Warpinator + Winpinator (on my Windows PC) and it worked flawlessly. I tried to sent 5GB file, and 80GB files, both work fine. So I don't know what's the issue here
@@RyoAdidharmaS yeah I've copied a couple hundred gigs over without any problems so I'm not 100% sure why you're seeing what you're seeing. If you've got the ability and you are of the mindset try connecting both your computer and your deck to a phone hotspot. Don't share your Wi-Fi or it might route traffic through your router. Essentially we want to route deck and PC traffic through your phone to each other. This helps eliminate any possibilities that there's something on your network causing it. Would not be the first time. But this is the way you eliminate that is a possibility.
What is the password that you first type in the command prompt in desktop mode. Is it as simple as setting one for your lock screen or is it something different? TIA
This is your SUDO password. You set and change it with the command: passwd The password allows you to run things with higher permissions - required for many things. It is NOT the same as any other password you've used on the Deck.
Hi, I'm still getting system error 5 even after running as administrator, but I can't figure out what is wrong. I followed the steps exactly as shown but it just doesnt seem to work.

Ignore this lol. Was just a thing of switching the filepath a bit to the specific folder.

Thank you very much, this is great !

Can anyone comment as to why this freezes file explorer after the transfer comes to a halt? I've tried everything connection wise.
