      The price comparisons to last gen aren't exactly fair. Saying the 5080 is set cheaper than the 4080 when considering scalping prices of the latter, and that the 4080S was brought down to $1000. Also that the 40series prices are still not exactly good, so being $50 less than them isn't that good.

    Good job, nvidia. Sell 3080 for $699, the increase 4080 to absurd $1199, so that the 5080 for $999 can now look like great value :)

    • @DerMef
      @DerMef 15 дней назад +403

      Nvidia doesn't just pick a price arbitrarily, it depends on many factors, chiefly supply and demand. $699 was way too cheap as clearly indicated by the massive shortages of the card (so you couldn't actually buy it at that price). Also 700$ in 2020 are 850$ now, so half of that difference is already made up by inflation.

      Once those cards are properly tested and compared to AMD's latest and to what's on the used market, we can say if it's a good deal or not.

    4:01 DLSS enabled, set to performance (upscaled 1080p -> 4K), rather than Quality (1440p -> 4K), DLSS sharpness at 0 (to be fair, I heard that this shouldn't be used in game anymore) and DLSS frame generation enabled, so fewer true frames.
    So it's more of: look how high we can get the frame counter with our AI shenanigans, rather than: look at what kind of raw performance we can get from our new card!

    • @beirch
      @beirch 15 дней назад +189

      To be fair, performance mode in 4K looks much better than even 1440p native, so it's not as bad as it sounds. Performance mode is absolutely acceptable and commonly used at 4K, as opposed to at 1440p or 1080p where it looks like dogshit.
      Although I do agree they could have just ran it native, and the 5090 would still be impressive.

All the ugly blurry mess while moving the mouse to feeling sluggish and not looking good as you say makes me sick, literally sick, needing 10-15 minutes of just eyes closed and regulate the breathing to be ok again.
      TAA and TSR made games look worse, MSAA and FXAA and I think SSAA made games look crisp and nice. Gaming now is just a blurry mess, CRTs and games then looked better than the blurry mess today.
      If I see it with my eyes that the images look good in motion and it doesn't make me sick, then I'll truly say that nVidia has done it. Otherwise, is just ugly fake frames. And no top-end/high-end card should get 100-200 FPS with DLSS on performance and FG enabled on Max settings in any game. Top-end/High-end should get 60-80FPS without all that crap and then 200+ with that crap on, max settings, native 4K.
      Everyone saying 4K and very high FPS, is just f-ing 1080p upscaled and fake frames. Give me TRUE 4K, NATIVE 4K, MAX SETTINGS 60FPS WITH NO BS and then you'll get the praise.
      Cards back in the day like the GTX 980-980Ti could do that and games looked so much better and were better optimized. Now just laziness and let the AI do the work. Most likely because studios hire based on race and stuff and not on capability so most devs don't know wtf are they doing nowadays. Nah -- I think they're indeed selling GPU's; and yup part of the sauce is indeed using (hardware accelerated) magic tricks, but it speaks to the maturity of the industry that they're at a point where hardware+software updates can essentially 'double' FPS on a flagship game in just a generation.
      Flashback to 2007 / 2010 GPU era -- where the generational difference was effectively 25% more VRAM. And no, it still couldn't run Crysis. This era, you can expect to essentially double the FPS on max settings on flagship games? Ya'll don't know how good you have it.

      The enhanced DLSS will be available on all RTX cards.
      Enhanced Single Frame Gen on 4000 cards.
      Multi frame gen is only on 5000 cards. (The only valid thing here to say they are selling you)
      Frame Gen does not "cause" input delay. It just doesn't reduce input delay. Input latency matches your real fps which can feel like a delay with higher fps.
      Nvidia Reflex already helps with this but Reflex 2 can be up to 2x as fast by modifying already rendered frames in accordance to new input.
      Reflex 2 will also come to other RTX cards. Should make both versions of frame gen feel better.

      Well, good plan, but these costs are nothing new and maybe 5-20% more expensive depending on the card. We should expect prices to be 20-30% more than ten years ago. Based on inflation alone, these 5000 series cards are only a little more than expensive previous generations. If these were released ten years ago, only the RTX 5090 would actually cost over $1000
      Here's a full breakdown compared to a decade ago:
      RTX 5090 = $1500, before the RTX 3090, the last '90' card was the GTX 690 in 2012 for $1000 (or $1,375 adjusted), the RTX 3090 would be $1830 adjusted
      RTX 5080 = $750 = the GTX 1080 was $600
      RTX 5070ti = $560, the GTX 1070ti costed $449
      RTX 5070 = $415, the GTX 1070 costed $379 at launch
      If we ever get an RTX 5060, it will probably cost about $400 in today's money. Me personally, I'm happy with my RTX 3090 and besides, video game graphics CAN get better, but since many cards can get 4K / 60fps we are getting diminishing returns. I still think the regular PS5 looks phenomenal even though it's like 1/3 as powerful as my computer
