Dude thank you sooooo much! Had Ghost Recon: Breakpoint installed via UbisoftConnect and while previously I was able to launch the game I was only able to launch Breakpoint via DirectX. Wanted to launch the Vulkan version as it seems to run smoother. This guide has allowed me to now be able to launch the Vulkan version! Was about to give up but this guide saved me. Thanks again man.

There are multiple ways to install other stores/launchers like Epic, GOG, Amazon, EA, etc. and it can be hard to figure out what is best. Because of your expertise, I'm wondering what you think the BEST method are for installing games on the Steam Deck from these alternatives to the Steam store? I'm hoping that there is a method for each alternative store/launcher that will keep cloud save functionality when that is a feature. I think a "Best Method" to these stores, like this Ubisoft Connect video, could be a good series of videos for you to do. THANK YOU!

@@INSULTKARI yeah it ended up working i just reinstalled and did the launch location again. I just wanted to play xDefiant but the game keeps crashing Ubisoft Connect is garbage for the steam deck so not really that surprised
BE AWARE!!! The trick with the linked prefix folder at 14:26 is brilliant! HOWEVER, if in the future you ever remove the non-steam game from Steam (i.e. in this case if you remove The Lost Crown from Steam) it will DELETE the CONTENT of that linked folder and thus the content of the original Ubisoft Connect prefix. Which will stop working. So before removing the non-steam game from Steam make sure you first remove the folder link manually in Dolphin. Deleting the folder in Dolphin will just remove the link.

Hey Shane, Thanks for making all these videos. These guides have been super helpful for me. I just wanted to add a quick note, and you might consider making a video about this. Using your example, let's say you've played Prince of Persia, and you want to uninstall it. Normally, you'd think you would be able "Remove Non-Steam Game from Steam" from within Steam. However, I've run into an issue where when you do this it removes ALL the proton prefix folders (not just the one for Prince of Persia but also Ubisoft Connect). Perhaps I'm doing something wrong where you haven't had this issue. But I just thought I'd comment to let you know about this slight flaw in the process. EDIT: I figured out the issue. It was because I was pointing each new Steam entry to the Ubisoft launcher itself rather than the .exe file for the game. EDIT2: This actually did not solve the issue 😅. EDIT 3: I find the issue is fixed by sym linking the contents of the digital locker's prefix folder rather than sym linking the entire folder.

Excellent video, I went down the Non Steam Launchers path first and Rockstar Social Club kept failing. Ended up with multiple versions of the rest of the launchers and still no Rockstar. I ended up factory resetting my Steam Deck. This video was a great help in getting it setup the right way. Only question I have is what is the purpose of the Games directories? It makes sense if you want to store the launcher on the SSD and the game files on the SD Card. But otherwise I don't see the point. If you delete the launcher files, the games are borked. If you delete the game files, the games are borked. Correct? It makes more sense to me to leave it in the same directory and manage everything through the launcher. One source of truth.

Hey, man! This was great, I got this to work with the Epic Games Store verison (via Heroic) of Rayman Legends. I followed the principles and was surprised it worked still. Also tried the PoP demo and it worked fine too. I have a question though - Noticing that even when I shut down the game(s) properly, the shutting down splash screen of the deck doesn't go away. I get impatient and end up aborting the process after a couple of minutes. Should I be waiting longer? It doesn't seem like Ubi Connect is syncing my progress.
Does this wrk for linux chimeraos or windows. Gotta switch from windows to linux or chimeraos bc any n everything steam related is explained for the steam deacks.

So I followed this word for word and did it all shot for shot, all without keyboard or mouse, and stopped at 12:00. Because I scroll down for a second and find a video you "specifically made" for breakpoint alone. Did it that way, so I guess I have two ubisoft connects now, and loaded it up. It crashed. Did it again, it played. I really over did everything just because I didn't know that vid existed. So I have a question. Everything you did in this video up to just before installing the demo, I did. even got the Ubisoft Connect to go to the C: games folder. I found that other Protontrick video you did, and did it that way. Do I just find a way to undo everything I did or just leave it all be and no performance side effects will occur. Cause I'm pretty sure I have two ubisoft connects now, if that means anything.
Two different things. If you bought a Ubisoft game .... ON STEAM ... you use the Breakpoint video. If you bought the game on Ubisoft Connect? You use this one. If you don't own any games on the Ubisoft locker? You don't need to do this video. Just do the five minute Connect injection. I hope that makes sense.

Not unless you buy the game there. If you buy them FROM Ubisoft connect, you can run those games. If you buy a Ubisoft game from STEAM (which is what I recommend) then no. You cannot run it from Ubisoft.

Sorry. I can't really help with those weird scripts that install game launchers. If you go back and install Ubisoft as a non-Steam game as outlined in my videos? I could help you a lot easier.

Thanks a lot for the video! But I'm having some issues with the symlink part. I have it set up the same way you do, but when I try to download, it is showing me the storage space left in my main SSD and not my SD card? I tried setting the download location directly to the folder via the full linux path, and it shows me the correct size then. Am I missing something? I did check in Dolphin and it is a symlink and if I open it, it shows the correct amount of free space in the bottom as well, so is it just Ubisoft freaking out? I don't have much space left in my main SSD, so I'm worried about downloading larger games this way where Ubi might reject it since it sees my internal and not my SD space. Edit: I tried installing a game and yes it does install to the SD, but the space Ubisoft sees is the bigger issue, since it won't even let us install larger games.
@@Darkuni Here is the scenario I think he is having, since it is the one I just ran into: SSD 512GB with ~48GB free SD Card 512GB with ~400GB free. Symlink C:\Games to the central storage 'Games' on SD Card. When going to install AC Odyssey which needs 85GB, even though there is room on the SD, it always seems to check disk space avail vs the SSD (presumably because this is where ubi connect's prefix actually lives). Will do some testing and report back edit: moved some items around; SSD now has 110GB free, SD has 244GB free. Can now install directly to SD via symlink, dialog box shows that it is checking against the 110GB free on the SSD (ie, where the symbolic side is not where the actual destination is.

Got everything done up to the 7:15 mark, but when I launch Ubisoft Connect I get stuck at a grey screen with a "UBISOFT CONNECT" top bar that has a minimize and close button and a larger bar across the bottom of the screen with a rotating blue "loading" circle that seemingly goes on forever. Anyone have any ideas as to what happened/is happening and how to fix it?
@@Darkuni Tried Proton Hotfix, got the login page and got past the initial "UBISOFT CONNECT" colorful loading screen, got to another black loading screen with the white Ubisoft "U", and then it cuts to the same grey screen that seems like a loading screen, which just goes on forever

@@Darkuni Update: I got it to work using the NonSteamLaunchers method. Maybe it was the new protonGE 9-5 that was installed with it that got it working otherwise I'm not sure.

Trying to log into ubisoft and the screen is just blank with the spinning wheel at the bottom right???
Could be a network issue. Google "ubisoft steam deck mtu" .. that will find you a few things to try.
Have you ever fixed it, I got same problem. Tried changing MTU still same, I haven’t tried changing the proton version though

Yeah, this trick is about protecting the games from an uninstall/thrashing of the locker. I will add this note to future videos.

If you move them to the central storage location? Probably!

Everytime I launch Ubisoft Connect it opens up the Activate Game window and I close that and it crashes Ubisoft Connect in game mode. Ideas?

If you own Far Cry 5 on Ubisoft, yes. Own on Steam? No. No worries about banning. No one has reported anything.

I don't have much space left in my main SSD, so I'm worried about downloading larger games this way where Ubi might reject it since it sees my internal and not my SD space.
Edit: I tried installing a game and yes it does install to the SD, but the space Ubisoft sees is the bigger issue, since it won't even let us install larger games.
As long as your symlink is on the SD card and that is the one you dragged into drive_c? You should be fine. Strange thing though.
@@Darkuni Here is the scenario I think he is having, since it is the one I just ran into:
SSD 512GB with ~48GB free
SD Card 512GB with ~400GB free.
Symlink C:\Games to the central storage 'Games' on SD Card.
When going to install AC Odyssey which needs 85GB, even though there is room on the SD, it always seems to check disk space avail vs the SSD (presumably because this is where ubi connect's prefix actually lives).
Will do some testing and report back

moved some items around; SSD now has 110GB free, SD has 244GB free.
Can now install directly to SD via symlink, dialog box shows that it is checking against the 110GB free on the SSD (ie, where the symbolic side is not where the actual destination is.

Go to play but it just stops after awhile and net all ok totally copied everything you did but it does not load the ubisoft app up ?

Launching the game, 5-10 sec in loading screen (showing ingame stuff), close the game and being back at UbiConnect.

Got everything done up to the 7:15 mark, but when I launch Ubisoft Connect I get stuck at a grey screen with a "UBISOFT CONNECT" top bar that has a minimize and close button and a larger bar across the bottom of the screen with a rotating blue "loading" circle that seemingly goes on forever.
Anyone have any ideas as to what happened/is happening and how to fix it?
What Proton are you using? These damn things break constantly, so Proton Hotfix may be required.

@@Darkuni Tried Proton Hotfix, got the login page and got past the initial "UBISOFT CONNECT" colorful loading screen, got to another black loading screen with the white Ubisoft "U", and then it cuts to the same grey screen that seems like a loading screen, which just goes on forever

Did everything and when I try and launch ti doesn't launch.

@@Darkuni nope I did everything you did in the beginning but when I press it. I wait a bit and nothing happens. In game mode and desktop
@@phengchaokhio4904 It has to be in the START IN or TARGET ... I've accidentally put an extra space or character in there while doing the double quotes.
great guide, so using things like nonsteamlauncher is not a great way to do this?
I would rather take the extra steps to do it correct
Ubisoft launcher wont load. It just hangs. In desktop mode you can force it by logging out but not in game mode. Hate Ubisoft

@@Darkuni Update: I got it to work using the NonSteamLaunchers method. Maybe it was the new protonGE 9-5 that was installed with it that got it working otherwise I'm not sure.

My guess is you're missing the double quotes in the start in and target
@@beanou1875 login with your Ubisoft account. If you don't have one you're going to have to make one. And make damn sure you use the same email address as your Steam account has.
@@beanou1875 This video isn't for games purchased on Steam. It is for for games bought on Ubisoft's locker. Search my channel for Syndicate - should be the same fix.
