    You’ve smashed it out of the park again matey. I’ve downloaded the free version of Revo UnInstaller for my HP Windows 10 laptop and got rid of a lot of junk files. It looks as though finally I’ve managed to get rid of Microsoft edge in fact the Revo uninstall icon has gone in its place. I also ran Microsoft PC manager which you suggested a month or two ago and used both of them. My Computer has never smiled so much and been so happy. Many thanks keep up the good work Steve.

    Don't forget programs for designers, electronics and 3D rendering. I will name programs like FreeCAD that now has released the 1.0 version, and is a great replacement for CAD programs that cost thousands of dollars per year (yeah there are more free programs, but all of them need a account and/or have to work in a browser and are on-line only). For electronic schematic design, electronic simulation (SPICE), and print layout there is KiCad EDA. And for 3D design and rendering there is, of course, Blender.
    All of them are really great programs. Especially KiCad EDA and FreeCAD are used by me on a almost daily base...

    Great source of knowledge,- very much appreciated 😇 Any idea why my laptop blocks Stirling - it reported a concern before downloading and now refuses to initialise ( 80% block). Redownloaded twice to no avail so must be a security setting in W10?

    • @RayKnowsTech
      @RayKnowsTech  28 дней назад +1

      @GeorgyGoogle Hey! So they have completely changed Stirling since I created the video. Previously it was just a web portal for Windows users but now there an executable you have to download and run . So I did, and also got an error at 90% initializing. SO, I went to the developer's site and this is a bug reported this week, thought to be related to Anti-virus/Firewall in Windows as it does not affect everyone. I was able to download and run the "Test" release version and it runs fine. The developer has notes that states they will have a bug fix in the upcoming release this week or next. Thank you for pointing this out!

If you are going to pay for a service I would recommend Paying for Proton's VPN and using Braves browser for free. I am not affiliated with Proton it just does out perform Brave and uses additional security protocols Brave lacks. I make videos on free alternatives but I am not against paying for a service if it brings value. Thank you for your feedback.

    Some good ideas here. Used Revo uninstaller earlier this year on my Win10. It removes stubborn software MS doesn't want us to remove. But be careful, it could potentially mess up your system more than you would like to. Registries are better left alone. I found my Win10 messed up and had to reinstall. I cannot say for sure it was due to Revo use, but the potential is there. Plus that software for optimising Windows? I don't know what else it does that Windows don't do already, like storage sense, for free. And since bloatware and telemetry slow down this MS spyware, unless the optimising software reduces those processes, I don't see how it makes the PC significantly more responsive. Just another software running on top of the OS and other apps.

    • @RayKnowsTech
      @RayKnowsTech  Месяц назад +1

      Hi, Revo creates a restore point before removing any registry values but you are correct it is always a possibility. The optimization tools just group windows tools together in one spot, especially handy for novice users. I appreciate the feedback.

    I can see where a suite like Libre is fine on its own, or if you're doing a project with others using the same version. But how smooth would things go if you're involved in some kind of big project and some people are on Office360, others on Libre, others on Docs?
    If there *are* still issues, it seems like the only sure way around would be to get everyone on the same page, so to speak. Or would there be such issues after all this time? I don't know, just asking.

If you use a common messaging platform like teams or share cloud storage especially. My videos are mainly geared for the home user. • @RayKnowsTech
      @RayKnowsTech  22 дня назад +2

      Hi Rick, I wouldn't compare Proton VPN's free version to a paid version of Surf Shark. As far as paid programs go, Surf Shark is one of the best along with Nord VPN. If I were going to pay for a service, I would definitely consider Proton due to the other Programs in the suite, ie the Password Manager, e-mail, cloud storage etc. If you are happy with surf Shark and arent looking for the additional software I would probably stay with it. Hope that helps.

    Does "Thunderbird" support this new, yet annoying, "modern authentication"?

    • @RayKnowsTech

      This only applies to Microsoft email accounts used with Thunderbird but yes you have to change your email setup to OAuth2

    • @BlondieHappyGuy
      @BlondieHappyGuy 24 дня назад

      @@RayKnowsTech Oh yes. I'm painfully aware of OAuth2!
      It's been a real pain, since my Office 2013 is supposed to support it with an update. Of course, MS has now hidden that particular update. Figures.
      I have 3 email account, 2 of them require OAuth2. The one, still works fine.
      So those 2, I have to now use their web app and on Win10, the Win app version.
      So I lose my ability to do backups and archiving like before.
      I'm a certified computer tech and with that, I'm very anal about "backup backup backup."
      I have come up with a way around it, for now, it's just bulky.

      @@RayKnowsTech I should have responded sooner. Yes, I'm very aware that this is a MicroSHAFT thing.
      But, not knowing TB, since it does support OAuth2, can it handle several accounts where some are "the old way" as well as OAuth2? I'd imagine so, since, as it turns out, on a Win10 laptop that I don't use often, mostly for when we go out and I need connection, I have Office 2016 on that one and it does support OAuth2.
      I do have mixed accounts in there (Microsoft and Yahoo).
      So TB, I'd think, must be able to do the same.

    Are there any Quicken-compatible personal bookkeeping apps for LINUX that can download transactions from my bank?
    Are there any accurate tax prep apps (USA) for LINUX that can e-file with the IRS (and run locally, not on the web)?
    In October 2025 I am migrating my personal computing from Windows 10 to Mac to avoid Windows 11’s violations of my privacy, but I would RATHER go to Linux. These two apps are the only roadblocks to going to Linux.

    Second comment. Are you a Linux user? I'm thinkin of making the switch, here in a couple of months, because my machines are getting old. I'm down to 2 modern ones and 2 oldies-but-goodies. Only one of my "modern" ones is compatible with windows 11. I'm thinking of switching all except one of them to a Mint flavor and then dual booting my newest machine. I am only vaguely familiar with Linux, having tried it on a system 18 years ago. I wasn't impressed back then, but it seems to have come a long way since then. Perhaps it's time. Are you a Linux user?

      Why not break away from the mold and throw on a customized cut down version of win 11 or better still Win 10. They make your machine fly again. But Microsoft have recently said they will not restrict what Win 11 can be installed on ... or something to that effect. If you want to go over to Linux .... Zorin is a good place to start.
