    NO! Never EVER paste something directly from a webpage into PowerShell or Command Prompt.
    ALWAYS paste into something like notepad first to make sure the webpage didn't add malicious stuff into the clipboard.

    • @antivanti
      @antivanti Месяц назад

      @@spacecadet4876 Yeah and also web pages can change what gets put into the clipboard, as you know if you'd tried to copy song lyrics from some webpages. It can add some fishy extra commands and even an Enter. And pasting into notepad gives you a chance to see that what is in the clipboard is actually what was on the webpage. Also you should then copy from notepad before actually pasting into CLI.
      Tho in this case you're also running a utility as Admin directly from the website so if you don't trust the website you shouldn't trust the tool itself either. But websites getting pwned and having malicious things injected by 3rd parties is a thing that happens.

Personally, I have been onboard tweaking and optimizing windows for many many years, although lately I've found things are very, very intertwined system wise, which might lead to many problems, some apparent, some latent. That's the reason why I've opted to not tweak windows anymore. However, for those that do want to tweak with it, this was a very clear, very practical video. Alas, it appears that the user does not have any control if the utility installs any other script or even executable, which to me might represent a severe security breach.

    Word of caution: the tool doesn't directly mention it, but CT personally dislikes Win Defender and therefore the tool will disable and isolate it (can't be reactivated). The script doesn't offer an exception or revert option.

    I've used the CTT script on my old laptop that came with 8 but I upgraded to 10, it really lagged during boot and was using a lot of cpu for like minutes after booting, like barely usable. I ran this script, probably most of it came from the switching processes to manual option, but now it runs smooth enough to actually be usable.

    • @memstechtips
      @memstechtips  Месяц назад

      Yes it makes a huge difference. From my testing it's not just the services that makes the process count lower. The other tweaks also have an influence on that.

    Tried this program out a while back, i was a bit reluctant to give it a go due to how you need to hook up to the internet to run it. What i found after using this program was that my internet connection was constantly busy, even after rebooting and/or shutting down. Each time my computer was running the internet connection was running in the background. Just beware, and if you do decide to try this program check your internet connection`s activity before and after. Something just doesn`t seem right. ps i realise that there will be occasional background activity on any OS stock or otherwise, but this is constant activity.

    It's better to debloat manually, so you know exactly what you're doing. These apps, including the one from O&O, can break things in interesting ways, so that down the road, it makes you wonder why something that works for everyone else doesn't work for you.

    • @memstechtips
      @memstechtips  24 дня назад +1

      True, but if you understand the changes these apps make to your computer, it's a real time saver.
      But we don't all use our computers for the same things and that's where the issues come in.

    Thanks for more good info on this great utility. I can't believe your Windows 11 is only using 2.1 to 3 GB of memory on boot up! My Laptop that runs Windows 11 eats tons of memory on boot up! After I boot up it's used 5.5 GB of memory! I've ran this utility and disabled telemetry and set processes to manual. That didn't help free up any additional memory on start so I'll probably look into disabling or removing the Lenovo software because it's likely eating a bunch of memory!?

    only bad things about his script is it installs chocolatey wether you want it or not, use it or not.

    theres a fix in github issues, you can run the script with a modifier that stops it from happening.
