It's easy. Since they were 24 packs of water once she got home she could open the packages. Then carry the bottles in a few at a time making multiple trips. Or wait until her son came home.

Had a neighbor in her 90's do this. She would take a few in, leave the rest in the car. Whenever a delivery person, random neighbor or whoever came close to her home, she would ask them to carry it inside.

I helped a tiny little bird of a lady put this huge 22lb frozen turkey in her cart at the grocery store one day because there wasn't a store employee around.
When I went to check out she was in front of me in line so I offered to followed her to her car to load it there too.
Worried that she would hurt herself getting that monster in the house, I kindly offered to follow her home and put it in her fridge. I had my 2 kids with me so I hopefully didn't look like a threat or anything.
She got her cell phone out and texted and her grandson said that he was home from school now and would be helping her get it big bird in the house for Thanksgiving and that it was kind of us to offer but she had it covered.
She proudly told us she was 97 years old and would be doing Thanksgiving until they dropped her in the ground lol.
I strive to be this old lovely soul every day. 😊

I would have also sued the company who trespassed n cut her tree down. This happens all too often where they remove trees without proof of ownership. You would think there’d be strict guidelines or regulations to protect them as well actual property owners.

Can anyone say “tree law”. This gets really expensive when someone cuts down (not their) tree and the tree is super old or was protected/endangered. Many subs have lots of stories like this.

I watch Steve Lehto, and he emphasizes that for Michigan and probably many other places that it is treble, not triple, damages. I don't really understand the difference because to me they are both 3x.
And the damage isn't the price of a new tree, but the cost of the existing tree. Not that money would get a replacement just as old, but to try to acknowledge that the damage is done.

Food companies are very careful about metal not getting into their product. It's not usually pens or the like they have to deal with; it's metal shavings from normal wear and tear on the machinery that is their primary concern. Often they'll toss something like a coin-like piece of metal into the system to test the metal detecting equipment. They face heavy fines (not to mention the bad PR if a customer were to be hurt by metal in their food) if the system isn't working properly.

Also not to mention the huge cost of recalling and replacing every batch of product that went through the line.

Way back in the 70s, my father used to build weird product packing machines.
It was a small company, and they used to get the product designed and put together in the shop, and the companies often supplied the food stuff that was to be put into them for testing. That food could no longer be sold to anyone, so the men in the shop got to split ut and use it.
They made machines that waxed apples and other fruits. They made machines that put packaged tea pouches into boxes, and another one i remember is a candy leading machine for salt water taffy.
We used to have all types of really decent tea and herbal tea and boxes of salt water taffy, and he brought home 2 bushels of apples and one of oranges. I had not known that they put protective wax on oranges before then. There were more items, but those are the ones that stick out the most.
If you ever got to Mackinaw Island in the 70s, one of the big open view candy shops showed the one machine right out where you could see it. The staff would load the big batches in and it would stretch and roll it out and chop- chop- chop! quick as could be and twist all that candy and drop it into a hopper. The other salt water taffy machine made these long flat thin rectangles of taffy wrapped on wax paper. I haven't seen that type in many years tho. You could buy 6 for a dollar. I loved to put them in the freezer and crack into bits. Geez I got old lol

The story with manager Cheryl sounds like the place my brother worked at for several years. The company's name was a contraction of "Respect Care." The place was actually a mini insane asylum with six or eight "clients" on a ten acre compound with two other nut houses. The pay was really good and he could get as much overtime as he wanted, but the job was dangerous. He was constantly being assaulted, sometimes receiving injuries that sent him to the emergency room. They weren't allowed to defend themselves, but had to call 911 if things got too bad. A worker at one of these houses in a neighboring state was killed after repeatedly warning management that this was going to happen.
Why didn't she just quit? The pay was good, she had bills to pay and mouths to feed, and back then, jobs were hard to find.

The thing I would have told that old lady with the cases of water is that hey you're going to have to cut down the middle so that you can break them in half the cases and then take either individual bottles out in bags or call somebody from their family to help.

Food production story: Not only was the line stopped, pretty much that entire batch had to be thrown out and the line and equipment on it cleaned and disinfected/decontaminated. Lots of money lost there.
Cheryl story: Well done on the yearly manager evals bypass play OP. But I do hope you were able to remain professional once you were her boss.
Water story: You did a good deed there OP. But I agree, I hope she had someone at home to help with it. But if she's buying that much bottled water I'm wondering if a water filter that attaches to her kitchen faucet might not be a better choice.
Tree story: What an a**hole that neighbor was for cutting down the tree. He asked to trim branches, which OP's mother agreed to, but with a denial of permission to cut down the tree itself. Then the neighbor waited until she wasn't home to cut down the tree. I hope the penalty he was hit with was VERY HEFTY.

In the UK, if you cut down another person's tree, you have to replace the tree with one of the same maturity. That can cost as much as a house!

My mother has her garden in the backyard and it has her trees and her bushes set up in certain ways and cut to certain degrees and angles. Her garden has remained in this state for the past 30 years, if any of our neighbors came in and against her wishes without her permission altered or destroyed her garden or her trees in any way shape and or form, my mother would definitely get her compensation and there would be consequences.... Just hearing that story made me sick considering I know how much my mother loves her garden and I can understand how that woman probably felt about her tree considering the ashes of the dog we have all the ashes of our animals buried behind the fence in a little pet sematary and if that was ever messed with I don't even want to know about the consequences that would come to those people that were the perpetrators of such a disgusting and unfeeling and callous act

I used to work at Schwartz Herbs and Spices. It was very similar to the plant in the first story. We had mixers that went across two floors of the factory. We were making the batter mix used by KFC. One of the guys dropped the knife he was using into one. Suddenly, AROOGAH, AROOGAH, the alarms went off. It took all our machine maintenance guys four hours to find the bloody thing. Then we had to write off about two metric tonnes of half made KFC batter mix!

Tyson along with a couple of hundred other company's could learn a thing or two about food safety from this company. If Cheryl was that rude to staff she certainly was rude to the people under her care. I would keep her under constant supervision and any infraction should be dealt with firmly. Following the old lady home would have been a BIG NO-NO! If she had any sense, when she got home she would open the packs and haul the water inside a few bottles at a time. Tree law-In my state, the neighbor might have lost his house because a long lived tree could be worth $50k or more and the emotional repercussions and lawyer fees would break the bank unless he was very rich.
