    Had a similar event happen to me when trying to find a friends house in a highly wooded area, drove right past his place, hidden drive way, so turned around in a neighbors drive. Well I tried, when I put it reverse I looked back to see the owner parking his car across my truck. He then came up screaming at me about being on private property, and to stay put until the police came to arrest me, he then went into his house to call them. I'm not a nice guy, I recognized this long ago, and have no problems with it. I reversed into his car, pushing across the road, then turned into my friends house, which was a quarter mile farther into the woods. I told him what happened, and he said that's quit common from his neighbor to over react to simple problems, and he thought maybe he'll think twice before trying something that stupid again. He called a couple weeks later, seems since I wasn't there when the police arrived, he was ticketed for making a false report, seems he makes a lot of calls to earn that.

    I would get the fire marshal involved if you had that situation involving entrances to your property like that. If you're in a high fire zone they should definitely consider having more exits and entrances further people and not shutting them down.

    Final story: I would not only cut the locks, but also remove the gate. If the gate is on OP's property, then the gate _is_ OP's property, and OP absolutely has the right to do that.

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA Год назад +4

      Would enclose the lock with their own, not remove it. After all, gate is on their property, just need to keep the all purpose lockpick ready to remove the chain if emergency strikes.

    • @Kayenne54
      @Kayenne54 Год назад +1

      @@SeanBZA I'd still have a tool capable of cutting through metal items in my car or truck. Emergency access and egress is an issue, though, surely?? As in, emergency services? If the fastest way is via this route, surely fire/emergency vehicles should have easy access?

    If the neighbor can claim a parking spot belongs to them because it is in front of their house, the spots in front of OP's house belongs to them. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Merging lane story: I'm a retired truck driver. You really get to see the "best" of people when doing that job. The aggressiveness, risk taking, impatience and sheer stupidity is breath taking. I've been on two lane roads in the mountains going uphill and had people pass me. More than a few times I've had to brake hard to let these fools back over as traffic crested the hill going the other way. Same thing for blind curves, merging at construction zones or on-ramps on freeways. Yeah, I know it's no fun being stuck behind a big rig, I've been there myself. But c'mon people, you need to get around us SAFELY!
    HOA gate story: Personally, if there's an emergency and I NEED to get thru that gate, I'm going thru that gate one way or another. PERIOD!

  • @mbyerly9680
    @mbyerly9680 Год назад +6

    I've heard stories similar to the last one. Fire Marshalls and the agencies that take care of forests, etc., take a very dim view of locked gates that offer emergency access for people and fire vehicles. They will force the HOA to remove that lock and maybe the gate if worse comes to worse with OP. OP needs easy access to the lock loper just in case. Maui is prime example of what happens when people can't escape a fast moving fire.

    Had a neighbour 30+ years ago across the street.Always yelling at us for our friends parking in front of his house.He called police on us a few times and they came over and told us he had no rights to any street parking on our cresent.
    So,...1st week of March we had 8 cars of friends come park on street after neighbour left to work,one friday morning. We also invited one of the cops and his 3 friends. We had booked a shuttle/party bus to take us to Panorama ski resort for 4 days and nights. One of our roommates stayed home to watch the shot show! Fri,Sat,Sunday nights he called the cops on us.They knocked on the door,roomy invited them in for coffee and all had a good laugh. They were called again Monday afternoon as we were getting home on the charter bus. Neighbour is losing his crap and yelling at the cops to do something about all the vehicles in "his parking spots". That's when are 4 new cop/ski buddies walked across the street and greeted the 2 cops on duty.Once old crusty neighbour realized the other 4 cops (who were with us) were the ones who told him that never had a right to any street parking spots,......he threw something at my girlfriend and was pushing through the cops to get at us,....they dropped him face first in the snow ,cuffed him and stuffed him the squad car in front of his wife and grand kids.
    Poor b__tard was charged with assault and harassment against us.He was hauled downtown in a robe and slippers.
    Smell ya later.He never talked to us again for the last 2 years we lived there.
    Now we had 6 cop buddies who either came over for coffee or beer and steak nights. Thank you Calgary city police!!!

    Gotta be careful about HOA A/B. School buddy from way back moved out west, had a gate along a trail that technically belonged to a neighbor, but they'd run their ATVs and dirtbikes on his property, tearing up the place. So he padlocked the gate. They cut the chain and/or lock, and were back at it. Rinse, repeat. Okay, he technically couldn't padlock *their* gate, so he just built his own, on *his* property, like 1ft away. *Just* a gate, as he left their fence, gate, everything else on their property, alone.

    The psycho Karen blocking you in story, if you’re in the USA, there’s a law against preventing people from doin their job by illegally blocking them in like that. It does NOT matter if you’re in “their” parking spot or not. Plus that’s also illegal detainment, harassment, and at least 1 more charge that I can’t think of offhand.

    • @user-de2wv8ri8n
      @user-de2wv8ri8n Год назад +2

      I don’t know if that is illegal detainments since it’s your property that can not move and not you
      Edit: looks under my state it’s considered grand theft or theft felony class 2 since you are taking control of someone’s property

    • @thecursed01

      That's one of those crazy american laws then. Like a robber getting trapped while breaking into your home and suing you. If it was her parking spot, saw she had her chuld eith her and couldn't get his lazy ass to park somewhere else...and then she gets her car destroyed...and ppl here support his side?

    *Last Story:* HOA B had their chance to be neighborly. It won't be pleasant for anyone but OP should consider suing them for trespassing and attempt property theft. That's the only way HOA B will ever learn.

    • @peterhobson3262

      I would have cut the lock the instant I found out the gate was on my property. I'd inform HOA B about what I did and that I would continue to cut locks until they were tired of playing silly games and, if they wanted to discus the situation further, here's my lawyer's name an address.

    • @Maninawig
      @Maninawig Год назад +1

      Honestly, I was thinking that this might be the best solution as a good lawyer should have enough fodder to both legally and publicly shame the HOA B into signing out a free and permanent easement through the gate.

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA Год назад +1

      Cut the lock, change the remote receiver, and put another lock on it, after telling HOA B that they have 30 days to remove the illegal property from your lot, and that otherwise you will dispose of the property as you wish, and forbid them access through your land, but will use the easement grandfathered into your title deed.

    • @williamb6266
      @williamb6266 Год назад +4

      There is also another issue. If there is the emergency due to fire or weather and the road is the only emergency exit available for either HOA. Then locking the gate becomes an all new issue. I bet the county would be real interested in the fact that HOA B was blocking and locking the road. Anyone gets hurt because of said emergency, then the HOA B could be held libel.

    "Merging lanes" aren't a thing in the middle of the road. Those are "shared left turn lanes." In other words, they aren't for merging right, they're for turning left. You can use them to merge right, but that's not what they're for.

    I had a similar delivery thing to the one that the guide with the parking karen had,except in my case it was a male body builder type who Was trying to provoke some sort of fight. I was on duty and I told him that he was actually violating federal law by His attempts To Do what he was doing. He then went to my
    Manager after he took pictures of me then I took pictures of his car's license plate and my manager was going to insist that I apologize until I told her that they could just fire me instead.
    Basically,i told my manager exactly what actually happens and told her that he could go to hell along before I would ever apologize to him for his attempts to provoke a fight.and then I asked her what sort of manager she was to instantly take some strangers weren't over one of her Employees.
