- Charlotte Curtis created the PDF Stitcher application that takes letter or A4 size PDF patterns and digitally "tapes" them together to make the full size patterns, add margins, and more! In Part I, we talked to Charlotte to find out how and why she created the app. In this video, Part II, I walk you through every step of using the PDF Stitcher-from downloading to ready to project!

Thank you sooo much bought the pattern Niche Harbor hoodie, and I just can't with paper anymore!! Their AO was several pages withoverlap so this was a game changer!
Oh yay! They often have A0 files, too, which can work!
Thank you! I appreciate you taking your time to help everyone! 🥰
Of course! I love making these. Thank you for your kind words!
This is awesome! You made it so easy to create my first stitched pattern. Thanks for the video!!
I’m so glad it was helpful to you!
Super clear instructions. Thank you so much for putting this together, it really helps!
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! I had played around with the tool and figured some things out but this explains things very nicely and will make it so much easier to use.
I’m so glad it was helpful! I love this app!
Thank you for the link to this video! The adding zeroes to fix the uneven rows trick was exactly what I needed.
I’m so glad it was helpful!
thank you so much - really clear - and it works!! Thanks to Charlotte too
It is an amazing thing, isn’t it?! There’s a new version that is even better and I should have the video for it out on Sunday!
Thanks so much for putting together this tutorial, and HUGE MEGA PROPS to Charlotte for her genius in creating this app!
Isn’t she amazing?! And thank you!
Absolutely brilliant. With your help I’ve managed to change the colours. Will have a play later with fabric. Thank you SO much. you’re a star.
Thank you!!! I’m glad this was helpful!
Thank you, your a genius. This was alot of work, and I would not be able to do a projector pattern without your help! I really appreciate you!
Thank you!!! Charlotte is the true genius for inventing PDF Stitcher!
This tutorial is so helpful! Thank you 💚
Glad it was helpful!
MIND. BLOWN. A big massive thank you to you and Charlotte!
Isn’t it just amazing?!
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! This was so helpful as I was getting started! And thank you to Charlotte as well! The amount of work that was put in to make our lives easier is incredible.
Yes, Charlotte is a genius! There’s a new version, as well, with even more capabilities like changing line thickness!
Oh this was perfect, thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Ive downloaded it and now trying to follow your tutorial, thanks
This is the old version in my tutorial. I’m recording a new one this week covering the new version and it should release Sunday!
Thank you, you are a very brilliant teacher and you know your subject, I'm so happy to have found your videos! Go on!
😄Sylvie from France!
Thank you! ❤️
You are a life saver. I was about to freak about about my non-projector files, then remembered to look at this, and then did it successfully after a few tries and paying attention once, (in that order).
Oh I’m so glad it was helpful! Charlotte is just an absolute genius and I’m thrilled my video helped you use her program!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! This program is just so well done; Charlotte made it easy for us!
Good video! Thanks.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
Thanks so much!!
Glad it helped!
I loved your video! Thank you for putting it together. The only part that I don't understand is the page range & putting the 0's in between the page numbers.
Thank you!
If you need a blank page for the “puzzle” to fit together correctly, you use “0”.
You can type each number individually, this works when you need to insert 0s or the pages may be in an odd order.
You can also just type the page range as one big chunk and PDF Stitcher will automatically put them in numerical order.
Or you can do a combination, like 1-4, 0, 5-10.
It’s very similar to typing in exactly which pages you want your printer to print.
Great tutorial. I can't wait to try out PDF Stitcher! I have what may be , for the lack of a better term, a dumb question. If I still intend to create a paper pattern by tracing the projected stitched together pdf pattern I don't really need to be concerned about adding spacing between pattern pieces or rotating pattern pieces, right? My alternations are just always so complex so I don't want to bother with figuring it out on screen, but tracing on one big sheet of paper is still going to be such a time saver!
No that shouldn’t matter at all, project it, trace, and then you’ll cut it out so placement really doesn’t matter!
Thank you for putting this video tutorial together. It’s been a tremendous help. I have a question. I know you showed us how to do the overlap and trim but I still don’t understand when to use each one? Could you please further explain? Thank you!
It's really more a matter of preference. The PDF Stitcher will overlay them where you can see both layers in overlap and will make it where you only see one in trim. Overlap is helpful to make sure you've dialed in your settings. Trim is helpful when there's too much going on and you want to reduce the number of lines you see.
Thank you so much! This video was it! Is there a way to add layers to a pattern?
PDF Stitcher is amazing but it can’t create layers that aren’t already there. For that, you need a vectoring program. Inkscape is free but has a big learning curve and doesn’t handle layers well. Affinity Designer is a little better in that respect but it’s a paid program and still has a learning curve. One of these days, I’ll get to a video on Affinity Designer.
Love it...I can print it out so I have paper pattern on 8.5 x 11?
Well you would buy the pattern already tiled and could print it out. With this app, instead of printing the tiled pages and taping them physically together, we do it digitally and then project the pattern onto our fabric.
I noticed that with the last example with the ellie and Mac pattern you did trim instead of overlap but under the layout diagram it says that the pages are trimless. Does that effect the way the pattern looks when you stitch it together?
Not really. I usually trim because if you overlap, you get two lines right on top of each other (but not always *perfectly* on top of each other) but you could choose overlap instead. I haven’t come across any patterns where it mattered if you chose trim vs overlap, but the options is there if you do come across it.
Thank you so much for the tutorial and for the interview to Charlotte.
I do not own a projector but I'm interested in stitching PDFs. Do you think once my pages are stitched together I could get a A0 file and work to get it printed?
Charlotte has said that the problem is that you can’t insure the final size. But you can likely stitch it and open it in Inkscape or Affinity Designer and make sure the paper size is appropriate that way.
@@DaileySewsStuff thank you for the prompt reply. I'll play around with those two options to check size.
I'm really pumped now to get a projector though
I have a free pattern that I am "playing with" really just to learn the stitcher. When I look at the US letter, the pages are not in an order that allows for easy stitching. Is there a way to rearrange the pages? Thanks as always I enjoy the videos!
Thank you! Yes, you can list the pages in any order that you need to. You can type 2, 5, 1, 3, 4, for example, and they will show up in that order. The ranges (typing 1-5) are convenient when they're in order, but it's not necessary to type it that way.
I love your tutorial, I have watched it several times. However, I still am not successful in creating a stitched pattern for projector sewing. Help please! I use a windows computer, the pattern I am using is straight forward, like your second example in this video. I used the same settings as you yet there are spaces between each page. I'd appreciate any help, thank you
If there are spaces between the pages, you’ll have to increase how much you’re asking it to trim/overlap the pages.
I just got stitcher yesterday and I am practicing. I can't get it to use the setting for the solid line in 3 pt black. It seems to not get that setting. What am I doing wrong?
Be sure you’ve selected a layer to apply it to. Otherwise, some patterns don’t play well. Post to projectors for sewing with screen shots of your PDF Stitcher settings and we can see what’s up?
Thank you both.....Charlotte and Dailey sews...... can you help please the very pattern I want to do is not numbered ? hope I can do this!
You can! I haven't done one yet that isn't numbered or doesn't have a printing guide. But even without those, you can do it. It might take a little trial and error, though. Look through the pattern and take your best guess for how many rows and columns it is. Start with that plugged into the PDF Stitcher. Then generate it, look at it, and change the numbers of rows and columns until it makes sense!
@@DaileySewsStuff thank you sooo much happy sewing June xx
why don't I get any of the pages you show when trying to download? Mine doesnt even allow me to save on desktop when I click on the link?
Is it your browser stopping you?
I just downloaded this program
and the interface isn't the same as this tutorial. Is there a new tutorial available?
Yes, it’s been updated a bit and I have a few more videos from over the years about updates!
HI:
I am a Mac user and I am able to download but when I try open the application , it says "it can not be open because owner can not be verified". any pointers?
It’s basically the same thing I did on the Windows computer here. Charlotte isn’t a registered app designer so your computer is trying to protect you. I don’t have a Mac but Sasha Sewist’s Top Tips Guide has the workaround for Mac computers. docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1smsjY3rlY5ozQFhnx1sqxEV5xxGyTOfLmKsnIRy4AkE/mobilebasic#h.sz6lyh15apkf
Very helpful. Used PDF Stitcher with success today for the first time. However, I am not able to see the layers after it is "stitched". Are you using Adobe Reader??? Please advise so I can cut soon! Thank you againl
Yes, Adobe Reader. The new version has layers on the right side of the screen rather than the left. Does that help?
No. When I click on the right side symbol for layers, it says they are pages and not layers. I have used layers before in other projects, so I am familiar, but it doesn’t work in PDF Stitcher for me. Any suggestions?
@@dr.jerilynvogelsang3922it sounds like the pattern you’re trying to use doesn’t have layers. Is that possible?
That very well may be the case. When I download the original pattern, it will not show layers in Adobe either. I think the mystery may be solved!
@@dr.jerilynvogelsang3922yes, unfortunately PDF Stitcher can’t create layers, only improve them if they are already there.
When you edit your videos before you post them it seems that the audio is speeded up and sometimes your words run together and hard to understand. I didn’t know if you were aware of that or not. Is there anything you can do to slow it down so the audio is more clear?
Some video is speeded but I don’t believe any audio is. I just talk fast. I do try to slow down when recording but I don’t always succeed. On RUclips, you can turn the speed down on a video and that should help.
On Mobile, there’s three little dots in the top corner then down on playback speed you can choose .75.
On a computer, it’s a gear icon at the bottom corner.
A lot of times, when I know I don’t have much time to film before my kids wake up or come home, etc, I forget that I’m supposed to be slowing down.
hi!! Do you know if I can upload my own pattern through that app?
Through PDF Stitcher? Absolutely. It doesn’t allow you to view PDFs, however. You run it through and then open the new file in another program.
@@DaileySewsStuff thank you. I generated the file but I cannot see the difference from the original pdf. Does it mean it converted to projector file? Also, besides selecting the input and output other tabs are not available for me. Does the app recognize that the file do not have any layers and read it as a single one? (plotter size)
@@Kshch5477you have to input the file and choose a new name for the output and then the other tabs should be available to you. When you’re done, you should be able to open the new file and see the changes.
I have a new Mac air and it would not let me open PDF Stitcher. I tried to go around it but could not figure it out. I think I’ll just stick to Sejda.
I may have figured that out!
Is it because of the permissions? There is a way to accept it anyways, just like I showed on the Windows. I just don’t know the exact way to do it on a Mac, unfortunately.
The program is called PDF Stitcher and there is a link in the description box!
But here it is, too:
Find the download here: github.com/cfcurtis/sewingutils/releases/latest
Having the same problem. Mac won't let me open the file.
I was really excited to learn there is a program like this but I must be dumb because I can not get this to work. I'm trying to stitch a Mood Sewciety pattern and don't know what I'm doing wrong. It gets the rows stitched right but puts the columns all in the wrong order. I think I'm too stupid to use this. LOL
I sincerely doubt that.
It's hard to know how to help without seeing what you're seeing. You can go on over to www.Facebook.com/DaileySews and send me a message with a screen shot.
The best thing I can say without having seen it is that you may need to change the drop downs where it says "'Page Order:"
i am having the hardest time understanding to change my ckc patterns :'-(
I’m sorry! Which part is tripping you up?
@@DaileySewsStuff they don't line up or mend well. I finally got it to look somewhat as it should and just went for it with a muslin that seems to be functioning. Gosh golly though it was difficult. 😁
@@rachelneaves2091 that’s so frustrating! Sometimes, close enough allows you to “draw” the right line as you cut. Some patterns just don’t line up well. But other times you can adjust a little here and there to get it right. But you’ve made a muslin so I say that’s a complete success!
Soooooooo confusing. I'm so lost. Ugh 😔
😭 it makes it hard to figure out.
I’m sorry. Could you be more specific? Which part is difficult to follow?
I have no idea what's going on, I can hear you but the video is so bury. I can not see what your doing.
Sounds like it was maybe your internet connection. I haven’t had others complain about that on this video. I’m sorry!
