  • PDF Stitcher is now new and improved! This is the tutorial showing all the amazing new features.
    Charlotte Curtis, a member of the Projectors for sewing group, created this wonderful app to allow Windows and Mac users to digitally put together PDF patterns! It has since grown so that the newest version still accomplishes that task, as well as adds margins, and preserves layers but now also can alter lines to thicken them, change color, change line style, choose which layers to keep and which to discard, and so much more!
    Find it at: www.PDFStitcher.org, with a download link right at the top of the page.
    If you haven’t seen it yet, here is an interview I did with Charlotte back when version 3 was just being released. You can hear about the creation of PDF Stitcher there: • PDF Stitcher Part I: I...
    You can also see the tutorial for version 3 in this next video. I don’t cover all this ground again in this week’s video, so definitely check this out if you’re brand new to PDF Stitcher. • PDF Stitcher Part II: ...
    There are even more resources for this available in the Projectors for sewing Facebook group. groups/projectorsforsewing
    This excerpt is from one of Sasha's wonderful guides (bit.ly/ProjectingTopTips):
    You may get warnings not to install software from the internet. These links explain how to override those warnings (in addition, using Chrome or Firefox to download will work better than Safari or Edge):
    Mac: support.apple.com/en-ca/guide...
    if you get a warning on Mac to “Move to Trash” or cancel - choose trash and then remove it from trash. You may also need to go to "System Preferences" then "Security and Privacy" then "General" tab and click “Allow” to open app from an unregistered developers
    Spreadsheet link: bit.ly/PDFPatternAssemblyInfo Definitely check there first if you have a question. You can always ask me in my Facebook group, in the Projectors for sewing group, or leave a bug report for Charlotte on the PDF Stitcher website.
    Note: I used points to change my line thickness. You can also use inches or cm. This is very helpful for patterns without seam allowance. You can make your line say 5/8" and that has now automatically added your 5/8" seam allowance to a pattern that didn't have it included.

    I’m confused about when PDF Stitcher is needed. What situations would this app come in handy? Is this something someone would use if a PDF pattern company doesn’t offer size layering? BTW....you are an amazing speaker. You explain things in a very easy-to-understand way. I enjoy your videos and have a projector all mounted and set up thanks to your guided instructions.

    • @DaileySewsStuff

      Thank you so much!!
      PDF Stitcher was originally designed to be used when a pattern only came in Letter/A4 sizes. The program would stitch the pages together digitally, like printing and taping. We also use it when a pattern has layers in the Letter/A4 document but not in the A0 file.
      PDF Stitcher preserves layers but can’t add them in.
      The new version also works for patterns that have lines that are just too faint or the wrong color or line style to easily see while projecting.
      And I am very often using it to add margins around the outside of my patterns! So helpful to be able to move them wherever needed.

  • @antoniokinsey4041
    @antoniokinsey4041 5 дней назад

    Hi, how do you use PDF Stitcher to change a pdf Letter pattern into a printing size equivalent or about the same as a A0 size to send to a printing company that prints it for you similar to how patterns come in a physical envelope?

    • @DaileySewsStuff
      @DaileySewsStuff  4 дня назад

      I don’t think I addressed this much in this video, since I was focusing on the new features, but I do have a previous video that shows that function. Basically, you use the middle tab called “Tile” to input the information for it to put your puzzle together!

    @Dailey Sews & Stuff I'm going to be cutting an Apostrophe pattern on dark fabric, so I feel I need to thicken the lines to see them for projecting. PDF stitcher version 8 will not let me select layers...I don't have any layers in this pattern...how can I thicken the lines? I'm probably just missing something simple....

    • @DaileySewsStuff
      @DaileySewsStuff  Год назад

      That’s a downside to PDF Stitcher-it can’t change lines when a file doesn’t have layers! Charlotte has said she’s thinking on how to solve this but hasn’t come up with a solution yet. You can invert colors on your computer/on Adobe. Newer Apostrophe patterns give the option to download inverted files with black background and lime green pattern lines. Or, if you have Inkscape or Affinity Designer or Adobe Illustrator, you can change the lines pretty easily in those programs. A few more clicks than PDF Stitcher but not terribly hard!

    Exciting! Thanks a lot! I have a problem: I don't have access to the layer menu in stitcher: it's displayed in gray and you can't click to de-select or change the color of the lines. However, the pdf patterns that I use include layers... how do I do that?

    • @DaileySewsStuff
      @DaileySewsStuff  Год назад

      Hmm. Usually when that happens either you haven’t opened a pattern yet or that pattern doesn’t have layers included (it may be different sizes but all on one layer).

    Is there a way to stitch zipped files? I haven’t been able to figure it out. Also, if a pattern has a file for large format printing, but no layers in that file, is there anyway to make the layers usable? I have several Hey June patterns that I would like to project, but can’t figure it out. I’ve asked the designer if there would ever be projector files and got a flat NO!

    • @DaileySewsStuff
      @DaileySewsStuff  3 года назад +2

      That’s unfortunate for the designer because I think this is the future of patterns so she’s losing a lot of customers!
      You’ll have to extract the zipped file first but if it’s a PDF it would work. If it’s a different file type, it would not. The Projectors fir Sewing group has a lot of people knowledgeable about Inkscape that might be able to give you direction for non-PDF files.
      PDF Stitcher preserves layers, not creates them. Often, an A0 file won’t have layers but the Letter/A4 file will so we stitch the Letter/A4 to get a layered document. That may be something you could work on in Inkscape, as well, but I’m not knowledgeable enough about it to know.

    • @DaileySewsStuff
      @DaileySewsStuff  3 года назад

      I'm not sure what you mean. The icon isn't on your desktop? So you have to search your computer for the program each time? You should be able to move it to your desktop from wherever it saved! Search for it, click "open file location" rather than the program itself, then drag the icon to your desktop!

      No. It only works on computers. Charlotte has said she has no plans to do a mobile app at this time.
