    Hi everyone, due the popularity of this question, I thought I would let you know that at 6:05 I talk about exactly why I do NOT add black pepper. Hope that helps!

      From what I understand black pepper is necessary to activate the turmeric and I've heard this from many sources

    I know it's an old video but it's new to me:
    1. Add the milk before the hot water - hot water straight onto Raw Honey will destroy a lot of the goodness the honey is bringing.
    2. I use a plastic sports water bottle exclusively for making this, I don't care if the plastic stains from the turmeric as it's the only thing it is used for - easy to drink from that without mess, and easier to mix it all together.
    3. I know you said you don't need black pepper in this, personally I think it improves the flavour of the Ginger by giving it slightly more background heat - all preference though.

    I’m sure this goes without saying, as she is a nutritionist, however there was no mention of it and some people do not know. For better health use Ceylon cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon, the type most prolific on grocery store shelves, is toxic to the liver and kidneys. Once I switched to Ceylon the difference I noticed was the richness of flavor. It takes a bit longer to blend Ceylon cinnamon, but so worth it. Thank you for this recipe, I can’t wait to try it! Many blessings to all.

    The weird thing is, I started doing this about 10 years ago just as an easy way to get turmeric into me each day because I can't handle swallowing capsules. So I just came up with the idea in my own head that it would be really easy to get it down as a warm, spiced, creamy drink. I had no idea "golden milk" was an ancient Ayurvedic remedy or that turmeric lattes were going to become so popular. I wish I had; I'd have made a video, too! I have it before bedtime and it's SOOOOO comforting, especially when I'm not feeling great, which is usually (I have a chronic illness). I do always add black pepper because I love that extra kick of spice, plus I figure it couldn't hurt. And sometimes when I'm tired or lazy, I just put half a tablespoon of turmeric into cocoa. Why not? I'm all about getting it in any way possible. LOL

    One thing about adding black pepper with tumeric. It increases the anti inflammatory properties of tumeric. It does not block absorption of any of the other components of tumeric. It's the whole range of phytonutrients acting together that give us those benefits which curcumin by itself can't match, or with black pepper can't match.

      @@joyoushealth Def. am picking up the coconut butter! I just had only the oil on hand, and it was still a surprisingly tasty latte. I'm on day 3 of this, and to me, it's equal to regular lattes (I drink espresso-lattes or a chai latte tea daily, for the flavor). These ingredients now have their own space in my shelf so I can make this a staple! Might try to add avocado pulp for the creaminess when I get a chance, just to see.

So, sorry for doubting you and thank you for teaching me that! Take them home, cut them and dry them in the sun for 4 days. When they’re fully dry they will shrink to almost half the size. Ground them up in small coffee processor and voila! You have ground fresh turmeric for use :)

    Could you please consider doing a video on the food you eat and the exercices you make because you look even more amazing since you had your daughter, you are in a beautiful and glowing shape :) Thanks and also thanks for this video, I will be making it for sure, love turmeric latte but wouldn't it be better to add the boiling water after the nut milk so that the raw honey doesn't "cook" ?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much! And yes, you could totally add the honey after. Clearly I was being lazy with this! haha

    • @joyoushealth

      And to answer your other question, I eat different foods all the time. It really depends on the season and what's in season locally, what my daughter is into eating (feeding a toddler can be an interesting experience!!) as for exercise, I walk A LOT and do yoga/pilates. I'm not into intense exercise as my body doesn't like it after having a baby. But that's the short version of what I do... maybe I will do a video but I feel like it will just be a random rant! haha

    Re the black pepper debate. Joy you are right NOT to add it. Black pepper does help to absorb the turmeric however it absorbs it into the small intestine. For turmeric to do all its magic it needs to be absorbed into the large intestine where all the fantastic bacteria are. Here it can do all the good work. If it is absorbed into the small intestine it cannot do its work as there are very few bacteria in the small intestine and it is just wasted. Hope this helps.

    I read somewhere that hot liquid shouldn't be add to honey , cool water stir honey in, than add hot water while stirring , breaks done honey slowly.
    I use a lot of turmeric in just about everything I eat , ginger too depends on what I cook, good for people with R.A. like me .

  • @tommidd8042
    @tommidd8042 4 года назад

    Add the black pepper, piperine, yes its needed even with ground turmeric. I'd add some real butter or olive oil, just a tea spoon of either. Important note: Even ground organic turmeric has been found to have small traces of lead. Adds to the shipping weight = $$$$, FDA over looks it. Grind up the root yourself.

    You should add the honey after the golden milk cooled down. Heating honey to 37°C (98.6°F) can cause it to lose nearly 200 components, including some antibacterial components. Heating honey to 40°C (104°F) can destroy invertase, an important enzyme. Heating honey to 50°C (122°F) for more than 48 hours can turn it into caramel, making the most valuable honey sugars similar to sugar. Heating honey to higher temperatures than 140°F for more than two hours can cause rapid degradation.
    Bee Health
    To what temperature does honey have to be heated to destroy the health ...
    Aug 20, 2019 - Heating up to 37°C (98.6 F) causes loss of nearly 200 components, part of which are antibacterial. Heating up to 40°C (104 F) destroys invertase, an important enzyme. Heating up to 50°C (122 F) for more than 48 hrs. turns the honey into caramel (the most valuable honey sugars become analogous to sugar). Heating honey higher than 140 degrees F for more than 2 hours will cause rapid degradation. Heating honey higher than 160 for any time period will cause rapid degradation and caramelization. Generally any larger temperature fluctuation (10°C is ideal for preservation of ripe honey) causes decay.

    [3] Honey and ghee are the two food substances used widely in our diet. The commercial honey available in the market is heat-processed, which absolutely contradicts the accepted Ayurvedic concept. Heating of honey is much discussed under quality deterioration, wherein certain enzymes and nutrients are lost.
    Times of India
    Can heating honey turn it toxic? | The Times of India
    Jan 7, 2022 - Honey is best at its natural form as it is packed with healthy enzymes, amino acids, vitamins C, D, E, K and B-complex and beta-carotene, minerals, essential oils and antioxidants to name a few. According to the books of Ayurveda, heating or cooking honey can do more harm than good as heating honey can change the heath enriching compounds present in honey. Cooking or heating honey at a high temperature can change the composition of nutrients. As per a report by the National Center for Biotechnology (NCBI), cooking or heating honey can deteriorate the quality and lose its essential enzymes and nutrients.

    She’s right you don’t need black pepper you need oil or fats( coconut) for absorption plus hot water wasn’t in jar long enough to kill anything

  • @roseladd6402

    Yes I think this is a great recipe, I do not like adding pepper to Golden Milk although many recipes say to add it for absorbtion of turmeric. I also do not like the fresh turmeric but perfer the powder.

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  6 лет назад +1

      No need to add black pepper :) When you use the whole turmeric root, you get all of the compounds, such as turmerones, that work synergistically together to aid in absorption

    Hello! First time watching your videos. It sounded pretty good and it looked very easy, so I tried it. Now, I don’t normally eat a lot of turmeric or ginger. And, ginger is not my favorite spice, though cinnamon definitely is! But I liked it. Didn’t love it, but I could see myself drinking this at least weekly, if not more so. Mine was barely warm (after adding the almond milk),so I might add ice and make it a iced latte next time. Or, maybe even put it in my Vitamix and heat it up that way. And, I am hoping it grows on me. Thanks for the recipe!!
