    Thank You for this recipe I will definitely be trying it. I am thinking that it was be natural to make your recipe and then follow through with my tea recipe. This was be putting these ingredients to full use. I have been making a tea, that we call Chi Tea. The tea is made with the fresh shredded turmeric & ginger, fresh ground cloves and cardamon, a pinch black pepper. After the tea has been strained into my cup I add coconut milk and a tiny bit of olive oil. I have heard that the black pepper & oil helps the body up take the max benefits of the turmeric. Then I put the spices into my smoothie as you suggested. The health benefits from these to drinks are amazing. Thank you again.

    I made this drink and it was awesome. But, it is a pain in the butt, so, I just throw in the coconut milk, turmeric, ginger and maple syrup into the blender and get it done asap. It's a bit gritty, but nothing goes to waste and it takes only a minute or so.

    • @CelesteTheeDragonLady

      How long does ground turmeric last at room temperature? Properly stored, ground turmeric will generally stay at best quality for about 3 to 4 years. To maximize the shelf life of groundturmeric purchased in bulk, and to better retain flavor and potency, store in containers with tight-fitting lids.

    I was told by a practitioner that in order for turmeric to be absorbed and beneficial for the body, you need to add black pepper to it. All ingredients needs to be simmered on the stove .cool then add ice.

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  4 года назад

      Traditionally yes, before scientists were aware of all the phytonutrients within turmeric but now we know that when it is consumed in the whole food form as is the case with ground organic turmeric or turmeric root, it is not necessary. However, some people just feel better adding it. It's important to understand the mechanism at work when you add black pepper. It's actually inhibiting a detox pathway in the liver - your p450 enzymes. I use black pepper in moderation for this very reason and I don't add it as you will see I discuss at 6:05. Hope that helps!

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  7 лет назад

      Terri Medwoman this is only when you aren't using the whole root. Additionally, pepper actually turns off an enzyme in the liver so while some supplements companies may add it because they are not using the "whole" root for best absorption it's at a cost to the body because you may absorb more toxins into the body when you turn off a liver detox enzyme.

      That's one way to activate it, also having it with good fats (avo, coconut milk/oil) allows it to be absorbed. Pepper is also helpful and a combo of the two would be even better, I'm sure.

    I love making a Golden Milk drink during the winter months an never thought about doing the same type of thing during the summer and doing it iced. Your version is much faster than the one I make during the winter. I usually use pepper, honey and cinnamon in mine, but this is a faster version for sure! I love using Turmeric it's so good in tofu scrambles, rice dishes, veggies, soups and stews. I buy them fresh when they're on sale and store in the freezer since they last longer that way. Do you think you could re-use the bits that you strained for one more cup?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  8 лет назад +2

      You could definitely reuse them for another cup but it wouldn't be as potent of course. I would recommend just tossing the leftover bits into a smoothie! Also, you don't need to use pepper when you use the whole turmeric root. :)

      Thank you! I didn't realize you didn't need to use pepper when using the turmeric root, so you only use it when you use the powder? Interesting... Thank you for the tips!!

      Hello Joyous I was wondering, can you use raw organic wild flower honey instead of maple syrup? I also prefer almond milk from the name brand (Silk Almond milk). And can I use chopped ginger that comes prepared in a jar?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  8 лет назад

      I would stick to freshly grated ginger for ultimate flavour and nutritional punch but otherwise almond milk and honey are great substitutions :)

  • @kamalaji1008
    @kamalaji1008 6 лет назад

    Thanks Joy. Instead of grating could I juice the turmeric and ginger. If so, about how much of the juice of each would you do. I LOVE juicing lots of greens, cukes, celery, ginger, limes every dang day . So, maybe I could do this to cool off in the Florida afternoon. You are beautiful and radiant.

      @joyoushealth  6 лет назад

      You definitely could! I haven't done it that way so I wouldn't be able to guarantee the correct amounts to get the same taste but maybe 1oz of each? Perhaps 2oz for a stronger taste?

      I use either certified organic So Delicious brand or full fat organic canned. Normally I make my own but I like to have a carton or can on hand too.

    I’ve heard black pepper should be used with turmeric as it helps absorption into the body. You didn’t use it. Was that because of taste or something else

    I know that fresh ingredients are the best of all, but if I don't have them at home, can I make this latte from turmeric powder and ginger powder as well? What do you think?
    And if yes, how much should I add to 1 portion?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  4 года назад

      Yes 100%, it's still delicious. It depends how spicy you like it but I would do 1/2-1tsp turmeric powder and 1/2 tsp ginger.
