      i'm curious. do you ever prep sauces? some of the meals seemed dry and i (personal preference of course) would have wanted a tahini dressing or something. Do you even prep dressings or sauces ahead?

    Your carrot and celery tip ( cut in a jar) has made my kids into celery monsters. Ill bring out the jar and peanut butter or cream cheese and all the celery is gone. Before it would sit in a bag behind the fridge getting soft now i buy celery twice a week. You're a life changer.

    The key to eating healthy - in addition to meal prepping - is to accept that the first 2-5 days of eating clean is going to cause some major physical and emotional suffering (craving/resistance/sugar-withdrawal headaches/restlessness) but if you can tell yourself it's going to get worse before it gets better than you'll be aware of the oncoming pain and face it head on in order to to make that transition.

    • @JNYC-gb1pp
      @JNYC-gb1pp 5 лет назад +15

      @Coleen Nicolas Same here. Huge headache. First time I ever did a fast the the first day I felt sick. By 6pm I broke the fast and ate a huge bag of Skittles and then a pizza and some chips and on and on!! Though I've done it many times since and your body gets used to it. I find that now if I'm not able to eat I don't feel sick or headachy or angry - it just fades and I don't think about it.

    Lisa... you are absolutely amazing. We learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing all these videos. In short, after watching your videos, my 13 year old daughter makes the perfect soft boiled eggs. We stopped buying Hummus from Costco. Your home made hummus tastes much better. We purchased the kitchen aid spiral, we now make zucchini noodles instead of pasta. We love your roasted veggies dish with the Brussel Sprouts, and Broccoli. Not to mention, I now eat broccoli. That is one of the veggies that I simply couldn’t eat all my life. We also dip baby carrots and celery sticks in your hummus dip. We pack our own lunch. You truly changed our lives. Best of all, I’M LOOSING WEIGHT. No wonder you are in shape. We can’t thank you enough.

      It’s true that you can lose weight without dieting by using natural herbal extracts, and here are the top 7 herbs that will help you do just that: Fennel seed, L-Carnitine, Gymnema Sylvestre, Konjac root, Green tea, Ginger root and Guggulsterone. The real purpose of losing weight with herbs like these isn’t to help you shed pounds as quickly as possible, but to ensure that any weight you do lose comes from your unhealthy fat stores instead of your healthy muscle tissue.

      ZodiacGuesser You could also do a lower “degree” of prepping. I personally don’t like reheated or cold food either, but what I do do is preparing the ingredients for what I want to make beforehand. For example, I’ll spice/fill a chicken breast and wrap it in aluminium foil, so i just need to toss it in the oven later. Or I’ll cut up potatoes and other veggies and put them in a container with spices and some oil and also just toss them in the oven when i want to have them.
      If you have time to cook from scratch every day, that’s great. But most people are too worn out and would otherwise just grab an unhealthy microwave meal or similar :(

    • @Pharmafairy
      @Pharmafairy 6 лет назад +11

      ZodiacGuesser I believe your personal reasons against meal prepping are more of an exception. I didn’t mean to convince you to do it, I was just explaining why it can work for most other people.
      I do get your point about the frustration about “making food without eating it afterwards” that’s why I usually meal prep before or while making that days dinner haha. Your other points are valid reasons too ofc, I just don’t personally relate to them. Everyone should just do what works for them ofc :) it’s great that you found a way to do things for you, since it seems to be important for your lifestyle!

    Your method is clever, economical and easy. We all have favorite flavor profiles we tend to use but, vary seasonal produce , proteins and heartier or lighter cuisine as temps change.

    This is exactly what I do! Every week I prep quinoa, brow rice, sweet potatoes, corn pasta, lentils tomato sauce (some week I skip that and buy some pesto instead), roasted veggies, a bean salad of some sort (usually chick peas salad), boiled eggs, and I keep fresh fruit & veggies in the fridge as well. Then I mix and match what I feel like eating, sometimes adding fish or sauté shrimps. Once in a while I'll prep chicken breasts too. 10 mins and I always have a healthy and delicious meal!

    This content is exactly what I needed, my life for the last several years was go to the store, buy healthy food, bring it home, leave it in the little plastic bags and shove it in the refrigerator and then throw it away a week later, after barely touching some of the stuff.
    Now I bring home all of this beautiful organic produce, spend a couple hours of washing everything and putting everything in nice clear glass containers, and we are eating healthier than ever. Thank you thank you thank you! By the way, your homemade mayo is so good. My mother always talked about homemade mayo being superior to store bought, but difficult to make, and I have tried it in the past with failures, but your recipe was easy and came out PERFECT! Hi Lisa,
    For the first time yesterday, I came across Downshiftology. It appealed to me for a couple of reasons. I want to eat healthy, I have little imagination when it comes to meal planning, and, even though I’m retired and have more time than ever, I have no interest in spending a great deal of time in the kitchen. Each night, I walk into the kitchen, open the refrigerator and struggle with what to make.
    I was so excited to find MEAL PREP. After watching it a couple of times, I made a shopping list and headed out to buy glass storage containers, a device for making spiral vegetables, and groceries. After church this morning, I returned home and while watching your video, I followed all the steps. Soon, the kitchen was filled with delicious aromas and, in very little time, all the glass containers were filled with 9 ingredients. The only substitution being cauliflower instead of brussel sprouts.
    For my first meal, I sautéed spinach, spiral zucchini, garlic, and chicken. I added cheese, walnuts, and ground pepper. The flavor was out of this world.
    I look forward to future recipes and all your wonderful ideas. I’m also glad to own a Vitamix which will be most helpful.
    Thank you, Lisa. Thank you so much. Your newest fan,
    Linda

    Lisa, Your meal prep is flawless and delicious! Thank you for all the yummy, fresh ideas. I wish that cooks like yourself would push organic more, and say that it's not only for our health, but it supports organic farmers, which we need more of in this country, and most importantly, it's not polluting the planet, nearly as much. It's almost like it's a stigma to mention the truths about buying organic on these shows.....now, more than ever, we need smart, creative people like yourself to really speak the truth, and not to mince words. The other thing is the paper towels; everyone should be buying paper towels made from recycled paper! not trees! And also paper towels which are not bleached in dioxin (which you did mention), which all paper towels made from trees are bleached. People watching this video are going to learn from you, that most paper towels are made from trees clear cut down in the Canadian Boreal forrest, the biggest carbon eater in the world, is being cut down for PT and TP. We need to spread the word, so only buy paper products made from paper and those brands which I know of are Marcal and Seventh Generation, I know there are others too,. You can read on the packaging and that will tell you. If everyone stopped buying paper towels made from trees, then all companies would have to make paper products from recycled paper and not trees. I very much enjoy your show, , but we need everyone spreading the word about these small practices which could really help the planet, if more people know/practice them.

You phrase, "...and with a little imagination you can make..." terrified me. But you made it very simple. Thank you for providing a wonderful, beginner-friendly tutorial featuring a lot of variety

    I love this advice on meal prep! I've always wanted to meal prep but have never done it because I couldn't imagine eating the same thing for a week at a time. This is the perfect solution!

      I agree. I just couldn't enjoy eating the same meal for 5 days in a row. Glad you loved the video! :)

    I learned from a chef to place the cookie sheet in thre oven while it's preheating to 500 F° (or 475 F° convection), than add the oil to the pan, than place the veggies unto the hot pan, and into the oven and cook them for about 10 to 15 minutes.
    Since than I've been preheating thre pan for everything; bacon, chicken, fish, etc. 😊 Thanks for the great tips!

    I’ve just gotten on page with this lately for workable and reworkable options during the week with hubby and kids. Thanks so much for visualizing to share the concept for buy-in.

    I used to think this sort of organization was out of reach, but I'll be darned- this is really good advice. Thank you for the crash course in getting one's life together.

    As someone who struggles with cooking (and thereby meal prepping) it would be sooooo helpful for me if videos like this also made clear HOW LONG each meal-prepped thing will last in the fridge. I don't know much about that stuff and looking it all up individually will just make my head spin... it would be so cool if meal prep videos included "all of this lasts for tops 4 days" or sectioned things off in how long things will keep.

      If she's prepping for the week, it should be safe to expect the items to be consumed within 5 -7 days.

    Well, I’ve just subscribed. I don’t know how people can eat the same meal for days, so this strategy is more realistic for me. Thank you!

    Love this! A lot of really good base components. To add more flavor you could also add pesto to the zucchini pasta, sriracha to the chicken avocado salad, or some chili flakes on the sweet potato toast.

    I remember watching your meal prep one year ago and thinking everything looks so healthy, fresh and delicious. And finally you don't eat the same everyday which I hate. I just bought your book. Good luck in your journey. Greetings from Germany

    This is the best meal prep video I've seen. I've been eating more broccoli, brussel sprouts, and red onion sauteed/steamed but I really want to start roasting. So much easier and I can cook it all for the week. Thanks for this great video.
