This really isn't a tweak guide. From my point of view, it is a setting level I would like to reach in the next half decade.
+Salman Khan Actually... yeah! He didn't really cover what any of the settings do, nor are his settings especially optimized at all.
Matt, you can set your Anisotropic flitering at x16!! ;) Contrary to what many people think, he doesn't decrease performances!! Cheers!
The clouds and sun sets are awesome really changes things within the sim I even get reflections of sunset on my panels its great

FXAA is a somewhat confusing setting as it's usually "more things ON = better looks," but FXAA is "Fast Approximate Anti-aliasing," which is essentially "prefer performance over quality," which is why enabling it makes things worse.
I gained 15-20FPS in teh NGX at Aerosoft DAB with some decent weather. Thank you Matt, made my day!

It would seem that many simmers are verging on P3D as their major platform. I've gone from FSX to Steam. However, I'm going to purchase P3D and call it a day.

+Anthony White P3D has great graphics, but beware that it only supports a subset of all FSX addons.

Hello, Matt! I saw your video about 2016 settings optimization.
I'm a video game aficionado and have spent days optimizing FSX/P3D, here's my advice.
I’m using a 4770/770 and can max out everything, except for Hardware Tessellation (major villain!), Terrain Shadowing (major villain!), and Building/Vegetation Reflections/Shadows (adds up), while getting 30-60 fps depending on the situation.
With your current set-up I would believe you should be able to have a lot higher settings and or fps!
I’m new to this flight simulator and have only made a few basic flights over Europe, so I don’t know how this changes in after hours of flying in adverse weather, at high altitude, over denser vegetation or denser cities.
However, based on my experience with FSX/P3D yet and games in general, you do not appear to be maxing out a few settings that have no impact on fps at all (Anisotropic filtering has zero impact in all games, as far as I’m aware), so I would encourage you to spend a day increasing or decreasing all settings one at a time and seeing if they have any impact on your system, and you can end up with great success!
These settings even work great for me and I'm on a 3.10ghz CPU.

I forgot to mention, that on long flights I usually use PMDG 777's also I do have REX Soft Clouds along with ASN, FTX Global, FTX Vector,FTX North America, FTX EuropeLC, FTX Oceana. My machine i7 4790k, 32 gigs, hybrid drive, GTX 970 single and Windows 7
Suggestion regarding the Aircraft labels:
Turn them off by default, if you are looking for an aircraft and cannot find it, press Ctrl+Alt+L to toggle the labels.

Hi Matt , the smallparticleradius=1 is a good add to the config so you can see objects further if playing multiplayer. Great vids mate. Do you have a rift ? Flyinside changes the way you "fly" and is super immersive :) keep up the great vids.

Today changed my old graphics card ATI5870 (which did an admirable job) to an EVGA 980ti which is fantastic.. I got all the settings as your video shows and its brilliant.. PMDG 737 is better, but still struggles.. but even 16 fps in city areas plays smoother than my old card...I've yet to change my cpu QX9650 3.0 Ghz.. although its easy to overclock to 3.6 ghz. I can also see texture loading bottlenecked by my older Mechanical drive as it stutters slightly as the hard drive is reading... so eventually i'll get an SSD for E drive..
Good fun though... still not tried it on my FSX install.. too busy fying!

I keep getting an SQL error when starting rex soft clouds saying that it has been tampered with and to unistall and reinstall. I've tried several times with no luck.

I have followed your fsx tweak guide- no issues with the install and game looking great. Have installed your config file as well. However I use my mouse as opposed to a joystick when flying and now on the ground I cannot turn? In the air, yeh no problem but as I use the mouse to taxi, please help I know it must be a tiny 0 to 1 or 1 to 0 or false to true in the config!

Enabling HDR lighting at all makes all the displays in the PMDG 737 a blurry mess. It makes my eyes ache after squinting at them for a few minutes. It's like there's a piece of wax paper over the screens or something. Have you had any issues like that?

you know what I want to know, how in gods name did you manage to do shared cookpit with Squeal in the Aerosoft A320, I've tried it with a friend in it's impossible to steer the plane as it floods the network...

Hey Matt! Great videos! I know how you can instantly get 20 free FPS with ZERO visual impact in P3D, get rid of Terrain shadows and Msaa, set the settings to 4k and max EVERYTHING out, make that GPU of yours work! I mean special effects, textures, 4k textures, everything but shadows, keep all your shadows the same except get rid of Terrain shadows, you'll notice almost no difference and unlock about 15 FPS, and MSAA, ditch that crap, it eats GPU's, use FXAA, or just 4k screen resolution.
I have an AMD Fury and I5 6600k OC'd to 4.4ghz and am getting 25-35 FPS at Aerosoft's Heathrow max settings at 4k resolution with 4k textures! it's insane, just try it and see if you get a similar FPS, the most I've gotten is in the air over Germany, with full clouds overcast nastiness, I got 50 FPS.
Anyways, love the videos, and keep up the good work :)

It may be also that I have maybe the perfect balance of hardware or something, I don't know, its getting that FPS from something though.
***** I did also notice that water at Ultra for some reason eats some FPS, and there's not much of a visual difference, so I keep that at high, but everything else, except for shadows too is at the max, and there was a drastic difference, being able to go from 1080p to 4k, 4k textures, and maximum settings with an increase of FPS.

***** My FPS doubled when getting rid of Terrain casts shadows, I don't notice much a difference no terrain shadows and some terrain shadows, I thought the exact same thing, that it looked weird, because my mind was tricking me mostly by the thought of having no shadows on terrain, then I looked closer and I can say to hell with the terrain casts shadows, damn that, I wish it weren't an option in the first place, I'd rather have 20+ FPS more than look at a slideshow and hurt my brain, and besides, I still saw slight shadows, they just weren't as dark, so darker shadows for me or way more fps? I'll take FPS, because my settings are cranked up as high as possible and at 4k with 4k textures so screw terrain shadows!
What's your CPU and GPU? Also, I have it on a SSD. I could have an advantage somewhere compared to others, I have 4gb of HBM and I think that only helps on my GPU, and then a 4.4ghz i5 6600k and 16gb of 3200mhz RAM the fast ram probably helps I would assume...

Matt, probably the best video I have watched this year. Instantly my sim looks awesome and getting 40 - 60 fps. Does your graphics card make a massive difference with P3D V3? I.e would it make full use of the power of a Nvidia Titan?

How do you cope with VAS with your setting. When I start a flight (similar setting) with a HD plane (Carenado 525A) at the begging I have 1 GB left, at approach maybe 0,4 GB left and no chance for landing. No possibility to fly from Kastrup (FlyTampa) to Shiphol. Any idea?
Matt when i load that cfg and cannot move mouse look i press space bar and mouse and cant pan,,any suggestion, new to prepar, have ezdok but havent installed yet.

To my surprise the framerate is lower on FSX after changing my old ATI 5870 to a geforce 980ti??? I tried the shader fix compile shaders... how strange.. I guess its P3D then

Hey Matt or anyone else I know your busy but you said you not using NVIDIA inspector any more how are you getting no jaggies or shimmering in the cockpit or on the outside of the aircraft. NVIDIA inspector solves it but kills my fps with sparse Grid super sampling any ideas ?

I've just invested in P3D and noticed something strange, when I sent my display sliders all the way up to Dense or V Dense I get about 25/30 fps which is good for me, but when I put the sliders down to the mid sections/normal I only get about 15/20 fps!!! I can't figure that one out :-)

hey matt im looking to purchase an airbus product from aerosoft do I purchase the a319 or a320?
My autogen doesn't load more than 20 or 30 mi in v3, I have fiber tweak at 0.3 but doesn't seem to change anything. Anyone know how to work around this?
Can you use enb with p3d?? I mean p3d already has hdr lightning and enb is only compatible with dx9... just wondering...
For the sun and sky texture mod, do you need to be running ENB series for FSX or can you do without it?

Are the days of manually modifying the .cfg file finally over with P3D?? I want to make the switch from FSX to P3D but I'm put off by the cost of re purchasing all of my add-ons. Hey Matt. First of all nice video. Im a xplane user right now but Im planning to turn back to P3D as the weather engine with REX is too realistic. What do you recommend? Also I did some testing of P3D v3 and its performance. I get aprox 30 fps with clear skies and 20-25 with major thunderstorms (graphics maxed out). If I install ORBX, REX and use a PMDG how many fps drop can I experience? Thanks

Matt, hi. I have a lenovo Y50-70 Gtx 860m core i7 4710HQ and it works fine 2.5GHz but, using XTU, P3D runs at 3.5GHz a few minuts and then returns to 2.5GHz. You know why this happens?? Thaks dude!!

Thanks for the great video and links. I was struggling to get a steady 30fps at 4K until reading from Rob that Hyper-threading and P3D do not mix well. After switching HT off, I am now able to get a steady 30-40fps at 4K with the settings you provided.
