Hello all, this video will expose you all to the glory that is Prepar3D Tweak Assist (PTA), an absolutely phenomenal tool developed by a guy named Yuri. This tool allows you to adjust countless visual aspects of Prepar3D v3+, including cloud shadows, colors, add rayleigh scattering effect, tweak HDR settings, water, etc, etc. It's a true 'Godsend' for the Prepar3D world, so-to-speak. A huge 'thank you' to Yuri for developing and maintaining this unbelievable tool.

Hi Ben, using this great tool now, I have to admit it's actually quite good. Sorted out the bright clouds nicely. Ground shadows and terrain shadows look better too. Gunna spend a few hours experimenting with it tonight. Overall impressed. That guy knows what he's doing doesn't he. Been waiting for something like this for ages for p3d.
Great video!!!! I heartily concur with all your comments. Yuri/Knossos is such a clever guy ... and very open to feedback. BTW - I'm the Adam whose preset you used as a starting point (yay!). It's now on version 20_06 (for PTA v2.0) - you might want to give it a whirl. I won't link here in case I get accused of spamming, but the links are in the usual PTA places.
This might just get me to upgrade to V3. Quick primer on Scattering: Rayleigh gives you that blueing of the terrain due to air absorbing the other frequencies of light. Its why the sky is blue :) Mie scattering is that white haze, and is due to the way water in the air makes the light more diffuse without absorbing other frequencies. When you look at the sky you see a combination of Mie and Rayleigh. They are hard to do well because they have to obey a mathematical law to look right according to sun and view angle etc - a fairly simple one but still a bit more than sticking a blue filter on everything like DTG. P3D has been needing this for the longest time, can't wait to see more.

just want to say thank you, for the amazing tutorial video you made as well as the .ini file you shared. changed only one parameter which is cloud lighting not sure why you set it so low, anyway it finally looks great, Igot to say this tool brought my p3d visual experience to a whole new level!!!

Ben Scheiner Hi Ben, at first I was very apprehensive about playing around with shader addons with my finely tuned P3Dv3. You have a similar setup, and I looked at afew of your videos.
After a really easy download and installation, I spent all day getting to know the PTA better. this evening I decided it was finished and flew a couple of short flights.
I was absolutely amazed. Chicago at night and dusk from Meigs field. I gave that the full WOW factor!! The lighting really took my breath away. Even flying over open water is "Eye Candy". Your tutorial video was excellent.
After the installation and quick test. I went to my REX 4 Textures program and installed some nice clouds & soft clouds and textures. without a word of exaggeration, the results are
unbelievable. Thanks a million.

+rsvette123 ah, gotcha. Yeah, I no longer use FXAA myself. I had used it when I stopped using 4xSGSS via NVI, but recently began using antialiasing via NVI again and have since turned off FXAA. Sounds like we're using very similar setups at this point! 👍

Ben... a big thankyou, I have put off using PTA because of uncertainty and compatibility with v3.3.5, which isn't listed on the website. Your tutorial clearly shows this. Which of your videos was the first using PTA?

Thanks for the helpful video Ben. One question I hope isn't daft. Can you apply these tweaks whilst P3D is running and see the results immediately? Or do you have to make the changes then load P3D?
Hey Ray! Not a daft question whatsoever -- I've experimented a bit with this and find it's best to do everything while the simulator is not running. I haven't gotten the changes to properly implement while the sim is running, and worry about potentially damaging files and/or file paths.
Long story short: do the tweaks outside of the sim, at least in my experience!
Thanks Ben. Makes sense I suppose even though it does make the process quite long-winded. How long did it take you to get the look you liked? And did you do it all yourself or use someone else's settings and then tweak them for yourself?
Hello Mr. Scheiner, I have a question if i may.
How can you have the AA set so low on your 1920X1080 resolution and not get shimmering. Do you use DSR or something ? (probably not)
I use antialiasing via nvidia inspector. I'll upload a video about this soon.
hi great instructional vid is their a way to exclude terra haze on clouds in the version of PTA tool you used in the vidas the cloud bases show blue but in a latter version of PTA tool theirs the exclude clouds check boxonly asking this because ive got an old PTA preset that's setup perfectly and loads ok with the version of PTA tool shown In your vid but transferring these setting to the new version of PTA tool there alot of different optionsand don't know if it will be exactly the same
Have you tried the Realism Shader Pack for P3D? It's also freeware and offers similar tweaks to P3D but with a simpler GUI experience. May be worth a side by side comparison if you have the time.
I have, and unless something has changed, the developer has entirely stopped working on the software and it's no longer receiving updates -- meaning it's not compatible with P3D v3.3+.
Yes bet they are very similar - your preset was also - only tweaked a few things due to monitor difference - need anything just ask if you go to avsim - ton of re-paints I have there in forums and library - all the carenado stuff in forums

Unfortunately the simulator cannot be open while making the changes.
Sir,I followed your setting.But the cloud almost disappeared after setting up.I use rex4direct (except cloud)+ AS2016 + cloud art (global dynamic).I feel very embarrassed.What am I doing now?My cloud are all disappeared.
try unticking the "no popcorn" option in PTA cloud options, i believe REX already uses their own no popcorn clouds thing so it could be conflicting

HI Ben. I am using PTA. but i am having bright night (like midnight 2 am is also looking like 7 am in the morning). any spot on setting i need to change in PTA tool. I am unable to see dark sky in my sim. Please help.
I'd look at adjusting the following settings until you find an aesthetic you like.
HDR Brightness (assuming you're using HDR in-sim.
Adjust terrain ambient moonlight
Adjust terrain diffuse moonlight
Clouds lighting tuning (light factor)
This all assumes that your monitor is (relatively) well calibrated.
Hi, after loading your PTA .ini it gave an error, my prepar3d is only in the background, I have backed up and nothing to solve, what should I do

im sorry but the uninstall/reset instructions were kinda all over the place... i was wondering if you could tell me exactly what i need to do if i just want to reset everything back to normal for lets say if i want to redo everything with different settings. do i still need to clear out the folder or? help pls :D
Here are the exact uninstall instructions from Yuri himself, available via the website linked in the description:
1. Use "Restore original P3D shaders" in Actions menu. All shaders that was properly stored in backup will be restored to sim.
2. Use "Restore initial config files" in Actions menu. Main config and cameras config files that was properly stored in backup, will be restored.
3. Use "Uninstall custom shaders from sim" in Actions menu. All custom shaders will be deactivated.
4. Delete main directory of PTA.
Ben Scheiner thanks for lightspeed response, just moved from fsx to p3d yesterday and im still getting butterflies everytime i open up p3d with a new addon and see the difference
Ah, I still remember those feelings! Is it a perfect sim? No. But it's an improvement over FSX in many regards, at least in my humble opinion. Enjoy it! :-)
Ben Scheiner just started up AS16 and got a heartattack with these PTA settings except brighter clouds, thank you so much for this video
Go into PTA. Look at the menus more closely. Listen to the tutorial again (I keep this video as reference). The cloud brightness can also be tweaked. I had the same experience at the beginning.

bro I don't understand this some other guy advertises this product as his own for a price and he is surely not Russian. oh so good review and advice, but if these are basically about tweaking constants and a minimal amount of shaders (so not a huge pack or something) how about the original software have this integrated by Lockheed Martin? why is a simulator that costs between $60 and $2,000 need extra tweaks to look good?
this same business is f in ridiculous I'm in seriously if the Russian guy did this why doesn't lock it Martin bought it from him for a fair price. I'm a prepared user and this is getting out of hand. slowly basically for every second simulator function you need a fn addon.
