    That's a great camo look on the S&W Sport II.
    This is probably the sixth video I've actively searched for to understand what all of the hullaballoo is all about and why this "Punch" was/is so popular when there exists other, better, and cheaper options on the market. CCI Stingers (JHP, 1640 fps) have always done the job well and are great to break in any new gun. Norma has a "Eco Speed 22" lead free ammo @ $3 a box rated at 1706 fps... flat nosed just like this.
    Those and Winchester Super X (1300+ fps and available in jhp) come to mind when terms ".22LR" and "self defense" are mentioned. I'd need some _serious_ convincing to try this out just for kicks. What we saw here from the gel test was a lot of overpenetration which is the total opposite of what any caliber SD ammo is supposed to do.

    Glad you and the family had a great vacation, Now, I'm very old school, also was in Military Security for 16 yrs and police officer for 11 yrs using .38 special, then .357 mag, then then the 9mm at which time I left law enforcement because of my personal use of 9mm in Vietnam. Back then the 9mm would not stop a 4 ft nothing person hopped up on drugs, much less a 6 ft persons without hitting 'em with between 3 to 5 rounds. Not trying to give you a hard time cause I really enjoy what you do. As a person who hunts, large game, bird hunts, was in the military security and law enforcement, I have formed an opinion, base on my personal experience. I DO NOT want to discredit you or start arguments with your viewers. To me the difference I see in the CCI, Federal and Winchester, is if you want pure pentation or stopping powder/bullet staying in the body cavity. Even the FBI data relates back to the .38 Special, which is about the same as the subsonic 9mm that is used in law enforcement. So to your users, my question is if use in self defense would you rather have complete pentation going through the body cavity or a round that stays within body cavity doing it's damage that relates in the end to instant death or bleeding to death internally. At the law enforcement school I attended, we studied gun shot wounds, and there the Corners, Trauma Surgeons, stated that outside of the instance damage of large calibers, a .224 cal round, like the .22 LR, 1/000 larger than the AR15/M16 .223/5.56mm, creates the most damage to the human body. Because the bullet will go in one place and end up in another, unless it hits bone mass. So thank you for showing the difference between the different manufactures of .22 LR rounds, leaving the choice up to the shooter. Keep up the great work and hope this post does not cause you problems. If it does please delete my post. After all, it's my opinion, and my experience. God bless and have a great day.

      I guess a bit of both. I carry a 40 cal for the same reason(.40 cal wouldn't exist if the 9mm Silvertip did its job). I carry frangible 2000 fps rounds that will penetrate a 3a vest( first round in chamber)and bonded Winchester ranger rounds in mag. I want to cause damage to what I hit leave some fragments and let the next round(s) have uniform expansion and penatration.

      Appreciate your comments. I usually carry 9mm with a 4 in barrel because I'm more accurate with 4 in or longer. Often in summer, with lighter clothing; carry a Ruger sr22, 4.5 in. Using CCI Velocitor ammo. Shoots reliably and flat out to 25 yds. My 22lr groups are usually tighter than the 9mm.
      Would also recommend a Lucky Gunner video. They went to a Federal ammo factory. Federal ppl talked abt a 2200 fps velocity point where a rifle bullet begins to tear a much wider wound path than any slower pistol cartridge can. An interesting discussion. Abt 3 yrs ago. 🤔🤔

    Federal punch and the cci velocitor seem to be the two standards in 22lr defensive ammo. I'm honestly leaning towards the punch a bit since higher velocity seems to make for more reliable expansion.

  • @cecilking3727
    @cecilking3727 Год назад +3

    The federal 22lr punch was designed to penatrate and that it does very well,better than any other 22lr load,it completely out performs the cci stinger,in my tests it always penatrates better than anything else and that's what your after in 22lr for self defense not expansion,try it on coconuts and gallon jugs of water,2 coconuts and 3 gallon jugs of water it usually stops in the third jug,and that is viscous for a 22lr load,I carry my kel tec p17 loaded with 17 federal punch in it,it's dead reliable and accurate I would not want to be on the receiving end of it,that's a one way ticket to the grave yard

    Looks like a consistent performer. Might be a great defensive option to stock up on that will give adequate penetration in either a rifle or a handgun. I am tempted to ask to see it side by side with the CCI Stinger. I imagine it would be very close out of a pistol, but would probably expand too much and give shallow penetration out of a rifle.

    Because of my job as a driver sometimes carry my 9mm it can be a little bit uncomfortable specifically when it Hot on summer or cold on winter in Florida., Which yeah it got a weird whether change.
    So last year i bought a Ruger LCP 2 in 22lr for practice/plinking on the range that is more cheaper than shot my 9mm all the time and as a pocket Carry gun.
    The ammunition that used to carry for self defense was CCI stinger and CCI mini mags, or Aguila Intersector but because of the pandemic it was kind of hard to find.
    And i saw this ammunition lauch by Federal, and i bought some of then, i shoot it on the range and it runs pretty good on my Ruger but i were still got my doubts about it for self defense.
    But now by Watching this video, i can trust that it will do the job done on a thread.
    I carry this on my gun for pocket Carry and i got 2 magazines extra, one with 10 CCI stinger and the second one with 14 CCI mini mags, wich should be enough to stop and attacker.

    Great video. When I open my gun safer looking for a good, "what shall I carry today" choice I generally skip over the .22LRs. Love the cartridge, and growing up on a farm, I was always impressed with the capability of this little round especially when it came to dealing with threats to the livestock. But I personally believe there is a practical limit to how hard you can push this little bullet, out of a pocket carry gun, before it tumbles or otherwise becomes unpredictable. Rifle performance is another matter and I have no issues keeping a .22 rifle handy for a variety of reasons. So to me looking at a .22LR pocket carry option is not a reasonable option. I do enjoy watching these videos to see how far ammunition technology has come.

    That wound channel from the rifle is not from proof of the HP opening, it is from a cavitation due to higher velocity. Followed by a compression explosion causing the burn marks

      Actually I have a channel update coming soon, I don't want to let the cat out of the bag completely but I am going to be doubling my video output starting in August and that will give me more opportunities to do the "funner" videos like I used to do. So you will see some more of those limitations videos soon.

    The first round fired had a much louder report than 2nd and third makes Me think that Federal has a charge consistency issue . All said I believe that revolver 22 Lr would perform satisfactory loaded hot

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  3 года назад +2

      I couldn't tell much difference in the report there at the range but that was a pretty good drop in velocity between those 2 shots. Thanks!

    • @randyblackburn9765
      @randyblackburn9765 3 года назад

      @chris mclaughlin with automated reloading machines this could be true , even hand loads can be inadvertently double charged but you know this already. I will say this I bought some high quality 357 mag ammo once that was so hot that it flattened the primers and the trigger guard of the big N Frame bit the backside of my middle finger. I pulled a bullet and weighed the charge at 21.5 grains and called the factory who said it was consistent with the round but asked me to ship the remainder of the 50 Rd box . The company sent me back a nice letter claiming that nothing was found out of the ordinary with the cartridges along with 2 full boxes of the identical ammo . On a hunch I pulled a bullet and weighed the charge 19.4 grains it was and the powder appeared to be identical.

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 3 года назад

      @chris mclaughlin Maybe that's true but for anyone reading this who doesn't already know, .22lr isn't going to blow a firearm up no matter how hotly it's loaded, the risk is probably a squib getting lodged in the barrel from undercharging. *Typed this and then remembered .22s with plastic bolts exist. IF you own and are trying to shoot a Zip 22, disregard what I said above and just hang it on your wall and buy something different before it chooses one of the myriad ways it has of hurting you.

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 3 года назад

      @chris mclaughlin absolutely, centrefire rifles are a whole different ballgame and even 22 carries risks as you say. I don't have much experience with federal but it sounds like you've had enough experiences to make dismissing them offhand a bad idea.
      Edit: I have personally seen far more problems with handloaded rounds than any factory ammo too, for what it's worth. The theoretical precision afforded by doing it yourself is in many cases just that, theoretical.

      @@buffalosoutdoors I appreciate the reply Buffalo, it’s no problem just tryin to help you out. Wanted to see myself anyways cause me and my folks out west in New Mexico and Texas have killed lots of jackrabbits with .22s and lead 40 grain round noses always seemed to kill them just as dead or better than the jacketed and hollow points (and before the Rona they were cheaper too lol)

    Cool test. I'm not sure if it is any better than other 22LR or not. What I would hope for in 22LR for self defense use would be enough energy to break bone. Shot placement would obviously be even more critical than for other calibers. That said, no one wants holes poked in them!

    Forgot to post about .22 LR Match rounds. I shot a Rem 40X (16 frigging pounds, national match grade, with match grade sights out to 50 meters. Today, the best target ammunition I have found is the SK match or SK standard. The same goes for my K-22, 8 3/6 traget barrel, the SK Pistol match is the best that I have found. I totally agree with you on the SX brand, Eley match rounds suck.
