Watching this video brought me a lot of emotions, I didn't have a very good childhood but what made me feel happy is watching the “how to train your dragon” movies and when I saw this, it made me feel very happy and excited about how it's going to be this live action.
I was completely mad back when I first heard that they were making a life action remake of my favorite movie, but watching the first trailer and then this video... I dunno, I gotta be honest, I went from being salty to genuinely excited to see this new movie. The cinematic vibe and the use of practical sets make this whole thing feel really authentic so far, and watching the joyful reaction to the actors being told they got the role was also really endearing. And they also actually managed to make Toothless work in life action. Dare I say it, it almost seems as if this movie is going to be just a little more special than just a simple nostalgia bait cash grab.
How to Train Your Dragon was the first feature-length animated film I saw in the theater. I really love this franchise and I'm looking forward to the movie no less. It’s clear that they put their soul into the project and I hope that the film will be simply magnificent. At a minimum, the appearance of Toothless has already reached 10 out of 10, the design remains the same as in the cartoon, but at the same time it has become more realistic.
Okay, normally I would say no I’m not going to give a live action adaptation of a film I desperately a chance, but given how much love, attention, and detail this is being given, I am actually genuinely excited for it. I think, I HOPE, this might be one of the few moments where the curse of live action adaptations is redeemed.
I was skeptical at first, but seeing Nico become Astrid was truely heartwarming. I grew up wanting to be like Astrid and I am so thankful that she will be played by an amazing and beautiful actress for the young generation to adore. It's good to be back at Berk ❤
I cried the moment I saw the teaser trailer. I assumed that the voices were going to be off, I assumed that the dragons weren't going to look right. but as soon as I watch the trailer I cried because it was so perfect. I did really want Astrid to be blonde but this is so much better then I could have imagined 😢
Wow! This movie invokes so much emotion. It’s fond memory that I share with my two sons who are much older now and will bring us back together after years and years of challenges. We are finally reuniting and get to share this gift. Thank you. I can’t wait for this!
Man, am I the only one glad we get such a good Stoic the Vast? The OG animated one is literally the GOAT, and this live action casting is looking to be just as good!
One thing they needed to do with the Astrid character was to ATLEAST make her hair style/color similar to the animated movie, I think it would have made her character have more similarities to her, as at first I had no clue who she was.
@@Desperado_76I think the point was that when picking actors for such a beloved movie, there should be an element of judging how closely they resemble their animated counterparts. I’m definitely excited for the movie, and I believe Nico Parker will give an excellent performance, but I’m not sure I’d have picked her as Astrid for a live action remake.
@@Desperado_761. I think he meant the hair style, it’s not styled like Astrid in the original at all. 2. Even if he did mean the color it’s not like wigs, hair dye or post processing exist that would be crazy
Considering they are fraternal twins, the identical features between them physically is the animated versions unrealistic flair of their connection. Any way this is an adaptation, and similar people aren’t going to pop up out of nowhere perfectly fit for the role
Non-identical twins do exist... and so what if they're different? The casting was done based on the core of the characters and how they acted, not necessarily how they looked. Stories are allowed to be retold in slightly different ways... instead of criticizing it, why not approach it with optimism and excitement? It's not as if the original HTTYD movie will suddenly *poof* out of existence when this one is published, you can still go back and enjoy it.
@@HybridMiranda Fair points but it's also fair to be questioning and skeptical as far too many movies in recent years have changed things to check boxes and push agendas instead of enhancing the story. I didn't see enough of the others to catch a glimpse of Ruffnut. But he's also not as important to the story as Astrid. So that's not as much of a flex as you think it is.
2:02 is where you see the others. ruffnut is the girl twin btw. Everyone is saying that astrid is supposed to be blonde, well so is ruffnut but she is a redhead now, and also 4x the bodyweight she is supposed to be. How is this any different from astrid?
@@bigsizedmcweiner2549yeah when the cast was revealed I thought they would give all the cast wigs to match the og hair color. I also thought roughnuts actress would lose the weight. I also wish hiccup looked younger here. The only character from the main cast they got spot on was toughnut, it’s almost eerie
The first 10 minutes of How to Train Your Dragon are a masterclass in storytelling, perfectly aligning with Araki’s Golden Way, where every detail serves the narrative. Hiccup’s narration introduces Berk as a cold, isolated Viking village: "This is Berk. It's twelve days north of hopeless, and a few degrees south of freezing to death. It’s located solidly on the meridian of misery. My village. In a word: sturdy." The harsh environment is reflected in the people, their culture, and even their appearance. The Viking look, with fair skin and sturdy builds, fits the harsh, northern climate they live in. Skin color, like every other detail, is a story in itself, rooted in the environment and culture of Berk. Adding a Black character without explanation would break this consistency and undermine the world-building. The Golden Way teaches that every element in a character’s design should serve the story, and in Berk’s case, a diverse character without a narrative reason feels forced and out of place. Wakanda is similar to Berk when it comes to this and i can guarantee that a white tchalla would look very out of place
wowwww that's so many words trying to pretend you have a justification for not wanting a black person in your movie. Love, there's nothing about being white that makes someone more equipped to deal with a cold or harsh environment and having a black character doesn't affect the worldbuilding at all. This is a movie about dragons, if you can believe that there are dragons but not a black viking then you have problems Them being white has literally nothing to do with the worldbuilding
I don't think anything will be able to replicate the animation wherein you can literally do anything. no matter how much passion is behind this project and no no matter how talented the actors are, they're always going to be limited by the fact that it's in live action 😮
OMG 😱 can’t believe this is happening it is exciting watching again but Live Action which Animation always the best and Oh Look it that Dumbo Live Action Girl 1:21 sweet
Thank you, I grew up watching the movies and series, phenomenal pieces of art. I have always thought that a live action would make the world of how to train your dragon more vivid and alive 💙 here is to hopefully another generation of kids, who's childhood is lit by the same joy as mine was.
0:06 I feel a little envious of those actors for stepping on the stage of the wonderful movie "How to Train your Dragon", now in live action, it makes you feel like you are literally in that world, with real dragons and everything, it's just a shame that the dragons are fictional, but the stage is not because that has already been done.
I AM SOO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!! Fun fact my mom is a hairstylist and the director came to her salon and she cut his hair for I believe the Oscar’s!!! And she said that they talked all about the how to train your dragon movies!!!✨
As much as I’m not that excited for this remake, the one thing that kinda does make me a bit happy is that the same director of the trilogy actually worked on this. Maybe just maybe this movie can turn out good. Yea it will not top the original but hopefully it’s decently good. My only worry is that it could be possible that Dreamworks will start to forget all about animation and focus way more on making live action remakes based on their animated movies just like Disney, and I don’t want that to happen. Animation is so much more than just “kids stuff”, it’s a beautiful form of art and i really hope dreamworks doesn’t stop making new animated movies after this httyd remake.
As someone who’s sick of Disney’s live action adaptations of their work, I am nothing but hyped for this! How to Train Your Dragon will always hold a special place in my heart Also excited to see a POC viking (which is historically accurate), especially for a character originally voiced by America Ferrera

Can't you understand that they chose Nick because of the shape of her face? Literally, the only thing that gives away that she is black is her curly hair. Other than that, nothing that straightening, dyeing your hair, blue lenses and makeup can't solve. If it were to be DEI, they would keep the actress with her originally curly hair.
I remember seeing those trailers for the animatronic dragons that came in the CD's. I wanted to go see a show so bad, but I was so young. This gives me the same longing vibes.
Cast Choice: 3/5 (some of the cast don't look like who they're playing, but I can get over that) Visuals: 5/5 Costume design 4/5 Story 5/5 (assuming they didn't change anything) Gerald Butler as Stoick: 100000000000/5 (too good to be true)
I still think this was made because of money reasons. But that being said, everyone seems passionate about this project, and Dean's involvement point towards two options: dogshit or greatness. Only time will tell.
Everything looked so amazing and perfect, until I saw Astrid... She as my favorite character growing up, destroyed the Blonde Stereotype, I've always loved her. That isn't Astrid, what a farce, Hiccup is so perfect to. Never understood the race swap debate until now. They changed a character I love and now I'm pissed. I can understand why others got upset now, I never cared before because I didn't have an emotional connection to the characters.

I'm so ready to see this movie of summer of 2025!!!!!!!!!!!
I got teary-eyed when the song came on... Didn't realize how much I've missed Toothless and Hiccup and Berk and STOICK :") SO EXCITED!
You can tell that they pour so much heart and soul on this live action remake
Edit:what the heck is going on with the replies?
Yeah because blackwashing Astrid and race swapping fishlegs is so much heart put into it
@George_Fl0yd I don't mind that though no matter if the remake is going to be similar to the original with some minor changes
@@George_Fl0ydgetting annoyed about race is literally the single most depressing criticism a person can have about anything.
@@Unbrickable27 yes cause the little mermaid did so well with that. its not that fact that were annoyed that she's black its the fact they keep on race swaping characters that 1 wouldn't have even been a vicking during that time 2 should have casted a sweetish girl or that resembles astride if they wanted to do a new movie it should have stuck to being animated they could have also introduced a black actor for a new role dont race swap a character like that they do it all the time.
@@phantomloard0138that’s because they chose the wrong actress as long as they use a good actor who plays them well im okay with that but I understand where you coming from

I swear if this goes well I’m going to cry tears of joy for the next year
1:07 there’s something about seeing Mason being shocked and excited that he got the role of Hiccup that makes me get goosebumps
I don't usually see/watch 3d animation to live-action movie but this! You can really see the dedication of the director in bringing it to life!
Thanks for summing up exactly what I've been feeling so perfectly xD 😊
It's crazy when I was thinking about rewatching the series and then this live action came up to me out of nowhere like a Dragon 😂
Astrid needs to be blonde :/
@@zeqolnedand ruffnut needs to be smaller. Didn't say anything about that?
Wow! This movie invokes so much emotion. It’s fond memory that I share with my two sons who are much older now and will bring us back together after years and years of challenges. We are finally reuniting and get to share this gift. Thank you. I can’t wait for this!
1:15 The actor for Hiccup reacted EXACTLY as i imagined Hiccup would to getting a role to plat himself 😅
Then the Astrid reveal disappointed
I’m super excited to see this movie , toothless look FREAKING adorable in live action !
Her hairs not blonde for this get over it
@@Desperado_76I think the point was that when picking actors for such a beloved movie, there should be an element of judging how closely they resemble their animated counterparts. I’m definitely excited for the movie, and I believe Nico Parker will give an excellent performance, but I’m not sure I’d have picked her as Astrid for a live action remake.
@@Desperado_76wig
I don't really care that her hair isn't blonde, but I think it should at least be stylied similar to the animated version.
@@Desperado_761. I think he meant the hair style, it’s not styled like Astrid in the original at all.
2. Even if he did mean the color it’s not like wigs, hair dye or post processing exist that would be crazy
Why do Ruffnut and Tuffnut look so different? They're supposed to be twins.
right?! everyone but Hiccup and Toothless was changed
Ruffnut put on 50kg💀💀
I hope for the best from this movie and everyone who enjoyed the originals, but we'll see what changes are made and if they are for better or worse.
1:08 that was great
everyone mad at astrid but look at ruffnut now that is a crime against the franchise
Facts but the Astrid one is just as bad tho
@@bigsizedmcweiner2549yeah when the cast was revealed I thought they would give all the cast wigs to match the og hair color. I also thought roughnuts actress would lose the weight. I also wish hiccup looked younger here. The only character from the main cast they got spot on was toughnut, it’s almost eerie
Noooo 😢 Astrid and Ruffnut...
But Astrid is blonde??
🤷
The first actress they wanted wasnt even white so this is an improvenent
nico parker is not white dude
She’s off white
Nah, that's.. don't we actually care about that?

Aye. The only difference is he's wearing a shirt
@@AaronMM-j2o LOL
I think this is gonna be the best adaption out of an animated DreamWorks movie! This movie is gonna be sick 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This could possibly be the first live action remake that actually works. ❤
This is a movie about dragons, if you can believe that there are dragons but not a black viking then you have problems
Them being white has literally nothing to do with the worldbuilding
This is going to be the best live action adaptation in recent history! I'm stoked to relive everything about this series.

You can just tell that they’re really putting in effort, passion, and a lot of heart into making this. I’m genuinely excited for this remake
the only animated movie that is worthy of live action - EPIC
I thought that title belonged to Cinderella 2015
I don't think anything will be able to replicate the animation wherein you can literally do anything. no matter how much passion is behind this project and no no matter how talented the actors are, they're always going to be limited by the fact that it's in live action 😮
Well, they did animate the original film as if it were live-action.
I’m just going to say it. The toothless model is absolutely perfect!
This looks like it’s gonna take me back to my childhood in the theater. Gerard Butler is goated for reprising his iconic role
The fact they're using real fire for Hookfang is awesome to see! Sick of the CGI crap most movies have been using.
But Monstrous Nightmare fire is canonically kerosene gel.
Getting to revisit your childhood movies is something I hope everyone will get to experience in their lifetime. I can't wait 💚💚

Astrid doesn't match even 1% 😅. She should be played by Scandinavian White Girl

@@banana4357 Doesn't matter it is a middle finger to white Scandinavian heritage. He did it for DEI check mark.
Tell me about it. I wish I was able to do this
Oh my god. A live action adaptation that might ACTUALLY be good?! And for my favorite movie!!!! 😍
I AM SOO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!! Fun fact my mom is a hairstylist and the director came to her salon and she cut his hair for I believe the Oscar’s!!! And she said that they talked all about the how to train your dragon movies!!!✨
Did he hire her for this one?
Nope He just walked into the salon that my mom was working at and asked for a haircut!!!😁😁😁
1:55 I've never felt so many chills on my body before...
I am cautiously optimistic for this movie. I think the effects look good so far and I actually have hope.
Looking at the trailer I think I like the animated verison better but I still excited
This movie meant so much to me as a kid. I'm literally crying watching this and I hope it's as magical as the originals ❤

astrid must be blonde
come on man
Can't you understand that they chose Nick because of the shape of her face? Literally, the only thing that gives away that she is black is her curly hair. Other than that, nothing that straightening, dyeing your hair, blue lenses and makeup can't solve. If it were to be DEI, they would keep the actress with her originally curly hair.
just. I dont think this film needs to be made. like why? and why astrid half black in a nordic film??
It's a Universal mandated film to promote the theme park expansions from Epic Universe, just like The Super Mario Bros Movie.
I remember seeing those trailers for the animatronic dragons that came in the CD's. I wanted to go see a show so bad, but I was so young. This gives me the same longing vibes.

So much relief. The original movie is the probably the biggest catalyst for making me want to pursue art and film!
Why has creativity with filmmaking been reduced to millions of sequels and live-action remakes?
Lack of creativity.
