Buffalo gets Clear Ballistics gell blocks and commences to show them exactly how they SHOULD look! Like a fish aquarium and not some pond water block! The man with the clearest gell blocks on RUclips!
The clear gel blocks do not replicate tissue as accurately as the “pond water” gel blocks you disdain. Those blocks are made in house out of a powder and have to be cooled. They are used by the FBI for ballistics gel testing, as the resistance simulates human and animal tissue more accurately and will affect the expansion of projectiles differently than mail ordered ballistics gel.
It looks like Federal did their homework on the Punch line of bullets. It performed well in about every caliber I’ve seen tested. Yet another great video sir.
Well Buffalo, one thing I can say for sure is that you are a damn good shot! So many guys shooting multiple rounds at gel blocks miss their aiming point at short distances, just like you are shooting at (and HITTING your marks). Even more impressive is when you stretch a little revolver out to 50 or 100 yards and rarely miss. I really appreciate good marksmanship! Keep up the excellent work!
Well done and a very satisfying video. Your point of aim, controlled shot placement and your cool hand firearm in hand experience overall meant that you presented a very neat results. Also as a bonus to you not having to use another gel block if you had premature exits to the side or top due to improper shot placements.
Short version: Hornady: 😖 Speer: 😏 Federal: 😁 I'm not surprised Federal wins the contest. I use HST ammo in all my carry guns. Federal seems to be outstanding at producing defense ammunition. Thanks, Buffalo. Your shot placement was perfect!
I think you got your Hornady and Speer mixed up. Speer had more velocity, but Normandy had more foot pounds of energy and they do more damage to their targets (meat and the like). Hornady also has more penetration.
Excellent methodical presentation, Sir! One of the best I’ve seen on RUclips. We can really learn something from such a vid. This is the way it should be done. Thanks for your efforts and expertise!
I agree! Great video, and it encourages me with same caliber in a Davis Derringer and Ruger 10-22M! I Use whatever ammo available , prefer Armoson. Thanks for your video!
Great video. Not too much wasted time talking. All business. Great shooting. VERY informative demonstration. The .22 Mag is looking like a very versatile round.
That's a lot of great information, this gives someone looking to possibly carry a 22 mag for self defense data on how the the popular round may actually perform.
Very good testing Sir. I've shot the Punch out of a Barkeep into gallon jugs of frozen water & it mushroomed down to the base. This was at 12ft. It will do the job but boy the price has gone up in last 3 months. Thank you for the comparison. 👍 🙏
Thanks! I appreciate that, if I say something on camera it's what I truly believe at the time. In the past I have recommended the Gold Dot ammunition in 22 Magnum but I am not afraid to change my mind when presented with new evidence and I am a Punch man now when it comes to .22 Magnum for self defense.
Well done Buffalo, another channel has done many tests with the Federal Punch LR and it always beats all the other LRs, so it's no surprise the Federal Punch 22 Mag is just as good.
When I tested the Hornady & Speer from a PMR 30 in organic gel, the expansion of both was very impressive due to the higher velocities from the longer barrel. What was more interesting however, was that the 30gr V-Max did a lot of damage from pretty repetitive tumbling and deformation. Would be interesting to see what those do from this snub nose, if they still tumble and tear up a block...
Also important for chronograph readings are air temperature, altitude, and humidity--so you did good. Jacketed pistol bullets at less than 1000 fps impact velocity won't show a lot of expansion. The little bit you got in your test was better than I expected. Good work!
Depends on the bullet construction and material. Softer lead core, thinner jacket, etc. will help a round expand without as much velocity. Federal is great for doing it right. So do the others, Speer being a Federal company, and Hornady has always been a solid ammo company.
As a Brit I enjoy watching these type of videos, I was a little surprised what a loud report those rounds had plus recoil, I remember shooting .22 LR from a pistol in the 1980's and the recoil was minimal
Excellent job Buffalo! I know it adds a little more to the test in setups but in my rifle testing I found a lot more info using the chronograph at every stage of testing. Yup! I have a 3" LCRx, 4" Heritage and Henry 20' rifle. I'd love to see what kind of velocity, energy, penetration and expansion these all get out of similar guns.
@@buffalosoutdoors Cool! I'm thinking that maybe the FTX and GD just needed a wee bit more velocity to perform correctly...maybe. By the same token would the Punch disintegrate if used from a rifle? In my experience, research, and what I've seen from other people Federal almost always comes through. For larger calibers the GD is a great round. Hornady Critical Defense is great too. I have no idea why people circle around those two so much when Federal rounds usually come in higher than the claimed velocities and meet penetration requirements dead on. Hell, the 9mm Syntech HP has to be the most consistent round I've ever seen by a mile. Even with FBI clothing standards it still penetrated the exact same amount as a bare block. Point is the Federal Punch didn't surprise me. Just reinforced my happiness in going with Federal in my EDC and home defense pistols. All that said, great job with the test. Keep up the good work. I'm glad you enjoy the channel! I plan on shooting these through a long barrel soon, I've gotten a ton of comments asking for it!
@@buffalosoutdoors awesome, looking forward to it!
Excellent job! You started this, you might as well continue on and see how they do in the 3” LCR, and any other barrel length you have
Might as well! LOL Thank you!
Thank you for a GREAT!! review on these 3 rounds. I MUST ADMIT that Federal Punch is the REAL DEAL. I always loved my Gold Dot self defense but the Federal has kicked as@ in all the reviews I've seen so far. Will be my new self defense round.
I feel the same way as you. I was a Gold Dot 22 magnum man for a very long time but better things are coming along it seems. I'm glad to see Federal pushing the envelope of what these rimfire rounds are capable of.
Great video. 🤙🏻 The Federal Punch appears to be the best of the three
It sure does.
Like to see how these 3 perform out of a PMR 30 and a MP 22 magnum
Great info. Thanks Buff.
One thing that you never see in testing of defensive ammo is muzzle flash. A few night shots would be an interesting addition.
a great video, espec since I often carry .22WMR! Again, thanx so much🤓🇺🇸
I will be grabbing the Punch for my 3" LCRx , beautiful test !
Excellent video as usual. I'm adding Punch ammo to my shopping list for my wife's CC 22 mag. Thanks for the quality of all your videos & testing..
Best again. Honest man, honest reviews.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Great comparison. Although I have both the Hornady and Gold Dots, I wasn't able to find any Punch in 22 WMR until I found some on the Internet last month.
Another great review! I would love to see that repeated with a 3" LCRx. I have heard (you tube) that sometimes that extra 1 1/8 inch makes a difference in .22 WMR.
Great suggestion!
Excellent results here, keep the revolver videos coming Buffalo! :)
Thanks!
Wooo I love 22 Mag . Thanks buffalo for the video
I'm glad you liked the video man!
