      This is my regular carry ammo in this pistol. When I’m not carrying the SW327PC - it’s big for a snubby but 8 shots 357mag and very low kick. But I’d be perfectly fine carrying 351pc- if I could only have 1 EDC it would be 351c!

      The clear gel blocks do not replicate tissue as accurately as the “pond water” gel blocks you disdain. Those blocks are made in house out of a powder and have to be cooled. They are used by the FBI for ballistics gel testing, as the resistance simulates human and animal tissue more accurately and will affect the expansion of projectiles differently than mail ordered ballistics gel.

So many guys shooting multiple rounds at gel blocks miss their aiming point at short distances, just like you are shooting at (and HITTING your marks). Big ask, but the results would be very interesting.

      Depends on the bullet construction and material. Softer lead core, thinner jacket, etc. will help a round expand without as much velocity. Federal is great for doing it right. So do the others, Speer being a Federal company, and Hornady has always been a solid ammo company.

    When I tested the Hornady & Speer from a PMR 30 in organic gel, the expansion of both was very impressive due to the higher velocities from the longer barrel. What was more interesting however, was that the 30gr V-Max did a lot of damage from pretty repetitive tumbling and deformation. Would be interesting to see what those do from this snub nose, if they still tumble and tear up a block...

    Even putting a piece of dense 1/4" fiber wood after about 2 to 3" of gel before the rest of the gel block would simulate bone. Would be interesting to see how they perform after denim, wood, and gel.

    • @titanscerw
      @titanscerw Год назад +2

      Sir, gel already simulates various density tissue the bullets might have to go through on its way via rib cage/sternum, lung, heart muscle, tendons, arterial tissue, other lung, other heart (if need be and you are shooting a Klingon or similar xeno). If this piece of info happens to be a new to you, be sure to find more on topic of ballistic gel terminal performance testing methodology as established via works of Drs. Fackler and Gary Roberts and others working in this field.

    • @exothermal.sprocket

      @@titanscerw Application. I've seen boat loads of plain gel videos by varied and independent testers. Also, I've seen the denim and hard barrier tests by various testers. I've also seen a setup that's intermittent, meant to simulate clothing, followed by pectoral, followed by a hard smack on a bone, followed by more tissue.
      The results? Bullets that function in plain gel or denim followed by plain gel, start to fall apart in their function with the layered approach, more closely simulating the drastically changing densities and conditions of a torso..... which is not all the same density all the way through, and which doesn't require lots of simulation or equivalent estimations.

      I understand what you're saying and I get that request quite often. However I am reluctant to go down that rabbit hole. No matter what I put in front of it I will get a ton of comments saying I should have used this or I should have done it like that. I try to keep things simple and repeatable so that the tests I do today can be directly compared to the ones I done in the past. That's why I always shoot the bare block first. That is the baseline. Who knows how thick, or strong the denim was in the video I did 2 years ago... not me that's for sure. The more stuff I add in front of the block the more variables it introduces from one test to the next. I'm not arguing with you, I am explaining why I do things the way I do. I always appreciate your comments!

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket Год назад

      @@buffalosoutdoors Certainly, I understand.
      Bare gel is a very common, very predictable, very repeatable basis of comparison. From that aspect, it has a lot of value and is a great visual representation between two loads of a given thing on the same given day.
      What analogue people take from that and apply to animals or criminals, that's up to them.
      I guess the point I wanted to make, is a lot of common hollowpoint stuff these days is touted as "new bullet technology, modern powder technology" and it's fired in gel and sure it performs well. Yet in other tests, a piece of wood and some denim are mixed with gel, and everything falls apart with bullets, except the best ones survive.

    I don't use it as a carry, but I have a Walther WMP and I think I will pick up some of the Federal Punch. I do leave it loaded for my Mom when I am not home. I know she can handle the recoil of it if she needs to, and it has a 15 + 1 capacity.👍

    I prefer a 3.5" to 4" barrel but still, this gives a good idea of how well they perform. I knew the parallax on the camera caused the difference between what we saw and what you said. I just take your word for it myself. That Federal round was the clear winner.

    We have been loading either the Hornady or Speer in our 942 for a while now...the Federal appears to be equally competent, so if I see a box or two I'll pick some up...we really don't expect to win the war carrying .22wmr, but we do feel it is adequate to break off most battles, which is a win...of course at home the caliber is an afterthought, but for Wal-Mart or a city park no need to load for bear, at least not in our area...

Wonder if you could tell us more on what he said he thought was ok, to shoot 22LR through it some. He said the cases flare out some but he didn’t see anything wrong with it in the 22 magnum chamber for this gun. We really miss Jeff, he’s earned his glory with the Lord.

  • @ericalbers4867

    In my experience, research, and what I've seen from other people Federal almost always comes through. For larger calibers the GD is a great round. Hornady Critical Defense is great too. I have no idea why people circle around those two so much when Federal rounds usually come in higher than the claimed velocities and meet penetration requirements dead on. Hell, the 9mm Syntech HP has to be the most consistent round I've ever seen by a mile. Even with FBI clothing standards it still penetrated the exact same amount as a bare block. All 10 shots stopped at the exact same depth like there was a brick wall in the gel. On top of that Federal is usually significantly less expensive than the ones most people talk about. Point is the Federal Punch didn't surprise me. Just reinforced my happiness in going with Federal in my EDC and home defense pistols. All that said, great job with the test. Keep up the good work. Stuff like this educates people and helps keep manufacturers on their toes.
