Quincy was SO DRAMATIC. LIKE SOOOOOO. Every time someone didn’t do what he wanted them to do or live up to his expectations he flipped. Even the way he responded to his mom for believing the baby rumor before he seen the evidence….. he’s very emotional and the movie shows where it’s a strength and a hindrance.

I Don’t Like The Fact That He Treated Her Badly But She’s Still Running Behind Him
Well, in this part of the film, and ever since they broke up, Monica was pursuing her own dreams. They spent five years not speaking. IDK if that's considered running behind him. Well at least not the whole time... 😂😂😂
I swear you guys revisiting this classic makes me wish an alternate ending with Quincy groveling for Monica would have happened.
Just to see him, for once, treat Monica like she was the main catch and "superstar" that he had to win back the favor of, you know??

About the closed captions, I’m not deaf or hard of hearing but I turn the subtitles on for everything. I understand what’s being said so much better. I know a lot of ppl that do this. It’s funny going back to watch movies from my childhood and comparing what I thought they were saying to what they actually said. I can’t watch anything on tv now without the subtitles on.

You can watch me play and watch ME practice now. 😂😂😂 The only thing about the captions is they are often wrong because so much of that stuff is automated nowadays and they don't have a real person checking it. The captions can be particularly bad when it comes to certain dialects and ethnic slang.
Amazing breakdown once again. I remember going to the movies in middle school to watch this. That knee injury and recovery were actually influential in my desire to become a sports medicine doc. Funny fact is when I’m with recovering athletes i sometimes palpate (touch) the knee as they did in Q’s rehab scene because its funny asf that that maneuver has no medical significance. Just for the movie. lol

Wowwwwww. What I wanna know is if Tyra only got with Quincy because of his status, which would have mirrored the relationship dynamic that his father had with his mother? If so, that would have been a repeat of some of the same issues down the line, so Monica really was the better choice.

European basketball is set up a little different, teams in the championship are from different countries sometimes and pick up players from different teams and different leagues kind of randomly, might be plausible that one or both didnt know they were playing each other

When it comes to having a son, the pressure of being a perfect parent is more on the father than the mother. I think it's the reverse if you have a daughter.
Society and the legal system put pressure on the fathers to be perfect.
Well in the case of this film, I think Zeke really put the pressure on himself to not expose his personal failings to his son. That's the crux of the issue to me.
But zeke was trying to steer him away from being like him and being in his situation.

Wooww... lol. Also, how was your time in MX, Cheri? What's a part of MX do you recommend for a beginner traveler?
I loved my time in Mexico for the most part (experiencing the country and living inexpensively while doing it), but eventually I got homesick. I loved the adventure of it all, but after a couple of years, I was ready to come home. Plus, my command of the language was not great, so it was a bit isolating and oddly inconvenient for the small things--like trying to describe how I wanted deli meat sliced at the grocery store.
The violence wasn't quite as bad as it is now when I was there. For a beginner traveler, I probably wouldn't recommend just going there to live. However, if that's the choice, I'd make sure it was somewhere very metropolitan like Guadalajara or Mexico City because I'd worry about violence when you are too far away from people.
One thing that worked to my advantage being Black there is that people didn't immediately suspect that I was American (until I opened my mouth). Basically I didn't fit the description of a typical American tourist and so I think I may have been overlooked at a potential target of crime.

A torn ACL doesn’t necessarily ruined your NBA career is just in the beginning if you are known for being a slasher like MJ or Vince Carter you lose that kind of athleticism that you were known for to where you might have to change your game up like Steph curry which is 3 shooting. Most players rise from that occasion most players don’t. Quincy since he was just a role player that come off the bench his career might be at risk because teams don’t want bench players like that who are a liability risk.
The point here is that when you have a major injury out the gate and you haven't really made a name for yourself, that's career ending because you were already coming off the bench in the first place. Also, in terms of rehabilitation, you have to think of where technology and medical advances were 24 years ago when the film came out. Today, even more people can rehab a torn ACL, but not nearly as many back then.
