Disney is race-swapping again. And people are upset about it... again.
Disney is remaking the beloved Snow White movie and bringing it to life. But it might have already died before it even came out because everyone already hates it lol. There's a lot about it that people don't like, but today I wanted to talk about the actress playing Snow White, Rachel Zegler. People are calling this another race-swapped disaster, because Rachel has Columbian heritage, and people don't believe she's fit to play Snow White. Today I want to revisit the video I made almost a year ago and talk about some things about "blackwashing" and "whitewashing" that I didn't think about before, as well as give more criticisms and opinions of the many race swaps we have going on, and whet...

    I havent watched the video so i have no knowledge on what you talk about in here, but i do wanna mentioned the thumbnail I just dont quite understand why blackwashing is in quotes, when it most definitely is a thing and it is racism. Is it as bad as whitewashing?.. I'd say no.. but its still bad. Kinda like how homophobia and heterophobia are both bad, but homophobia is worse. Still, does it mean its okay to be heterophobic? No.

      Yup, I agree. I did that to get the idea that whitewashing is obviously very established and well known, however blackwashing is a term that it kinda new and used a lot more frequently nowadays, and getting to the difference of them both morally, not to say it doesn't exist of course.

    Finally, a video that doesn't go "this is bad" or "this is good." You are underrated. ❤ I personally dislike race-swapping in general. Most of the time, characters have a race, and it has a connection to the culture around. It also feels a lot like they're doing race swaps for "cash grab" just like it's done with queerbaiting. I would much rather prefer movies that create black characters from the beginning. I will mention that while the action itself of whitewashing and blackwashing is the same, the social implication can be vastly different. I'm a character creator myself, and I know pretty damn well that if someone tried to whitewash or blackwash my characters, I would dislike it because of their story and setting. It could break a lot of the story.

  • @duckscitomaster1308

    and i always see the argument like “What if we made tiana white🤓” But again the race is relevant because the entire plot is literally based off African and Afro-Caribbean culture THE ANTAGONIST IS THE LEADER OF THE DEAD IN HATIAN VODOU Snow white is just a basic fairytale love story that could apply to any culture

  • @duckscitomaster1308
    @duckscitomaster1308 18 часов назад

    the race of an actor irl doesn’t really relate to the movie depending on what it’s about for ex moana would make sense hiring a polynesian actress because the culture is literally part of the story snow white, sleeping beauty, the little mermaid and all those, they don’t really have any cultural elements it’s more just a general fairy tale type thing.

      You say some Fairy tales have no cultural origins... Yes they do. They come from a lot of different European regions. Snow white atleast the version the brothers Grim wrote down comes from Germany. Yes you can spin them into any region of the world if you try. But still the tale itself is European on origin.

      @@ghoulchan7525the ethnicity of snow white and the other princesses op mentioned have no bearing on the story. Anyone of any ethnicity could take on the role and it would make no difference. If the protagonist being a different race impedes your enjoyment of it that's concerning. It's a movie, the importance is on the storytelling and other elements, and in snow whites case her ethnicity has nothing to do with any of those elements

    Not gonna lie, I’m absolutely exhausted from all the arguments around race swapping. And the main reason why is because, at least in the videos I’ve seen, nobody ever approaches it with any level of nuance. The overwhelming majority of takes I hear on it are either completely for it, or completely against it, with no in between. I gotta admit, though; your video is very different. I don’t fully agree with everything you said, but it’s definitely more nuanced than most videos on the subject, and that’s really refreshing to see. The vibe I’ve gotten from this is very much one of “Let’s talk”, rather than the usual “let’s completely shut down the other side” that I usually see. So thanks. :D I totally agree with your “original stories” point, also. Not just because I think it’s a great point, but because Disney has shown they can make great movies out of non-western folklore (Mulan, Encanto, Moana, etc.), so I wish they’d just do more of that instead of the lazy, unoriginal, and borderline rage-baiting way. PS: totally agree with your thing about cinemas. They’re dumb, overpriced, the people in them suck, and since 2017-ish are louder than a rock concert. And don’t feel bad about not having seen Barbie or Oppenheimer. I’ve seen both, and neither of them were worth the hype at all. Anyway, sorry for the super-long comment. Great video. Take care.

    Honestly, my main problem with Live Action remakes is that, they're not really needed. For example, Disney's Little Mermaid is about 30 years old, which for a movie in not that old, so why did they remake it? Also, my even bigger problem with those remakes is that they really don't add anything valuable to the story and overall experience, and they lowkey push animated media aside, even tho animation is a much more flexible medium for both short and long film. Also, in terms of movies, series ect. that aren't souless cash grabs, have diversity, and are still for younger audience, here's a list [note; not all of those movies etc. came out yet, but I do think that they're worth following their development] : Jentry Chau vs The Underworld, Iyanu Child of Wonder, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, Owl House, Amphibia, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeastes.

      @@Kaysaja I think it’s important to have representation for every race in movies. In my opinion though people who were created as a certain race should stay a certain race in recreations. It’s cute to do it as a head cannon if you are making something like fan art or a fan made piece but if it’s cannon I think you should stick to the original. That being said it would be amazing if more movies had a lot more diversity with lead roles. It’s like every movie I watch the protagonist is white. Also whitewashing is not ok, it gets rid of black representation and sometimes even takes away shades of a persons personality. Black people need more representation not less. (Also other races in general)

    I don't think pressuring especially low wage employees into doing something that could get them in trouble or fired is pretty immoral especially as a rich person or celebrity. Its always pretty upsetting when ya learn about something gross or awful a youtuber has done and if they were someone I watched I just lose the ability to see their content seperate from them and those gross actions, but then see how it really didnt matter and theyre just gonna move past after it gets kicked under the rug. An example is Alpharad, used to like his second channel videos with his friends until the Super Smash Bros pdf ousting that happened and a player callrd Nairo was one of them and Alpharad was amoungst the people saying they had seen some magical google doc that removed the player Nairo from all wrongdoing and accountability, when he had inappropriate physical relations with a minor. Not only did none of this evidence ever come out, but it confuses me why people would act like someone who at any point thought it was alright to engage in that relationship should be allowed at in person tournaments for a game with a massive audience of kids and adults. If I remember correctly (althought I might be misremembering) the common defense for him was it wasnt his fault, that somehow the minor is the one at fault for blackmailing him into doing things, and I just dont think thats very valid and still justifies the guy not being allowed back at these tournaments with alot of kids that go.

    I don't watch stuff to feel represented. Pretty narcissistic if you ask me. I watch stuff to relate to characters and I do not do that based on skin colour but rather, experiences and struggles that the character faces. Their aims towards goals and all the rest that is to do with being human...not black or white or ski blue pink with yellow dots. I grew up watching shows like Fresh prince of Bel Air which was popular in the Uk with white audiences and nobody cared that it was about a black family and there was hardly any white people in it and only as guest appearances or cameos....we just liked the characters and found it funny and entertaining and that is all that mattered. This modern way of ticking political boxes and filling diversity quotas doesn't do anything good for anyone...not least because people are being encouraged to only be able to relate to those of their own skin colour? Isn't that increasing racism when the main thing that you are being taught to notice is the colour of a persons skin? I might be white but most white characters I watch do not represent me. We are all still individuals and very different as people at the end of the day. I just like to escape from the real world for a bit and relax....not have political agendas forced down my throat. You can always tell when the diversity is forced and you'll always have people who speak against it. I also take exception to anyone who questions this new trend as being racist. That is a lazy cop out shut down technique and nothing better.

Like, people shouldn’t treat me this way, and there’s a world where people don’t treat me this way, so why should I have to combat their treatment of me with “respect” and thug it out with them? I don’t want to participate under capitalism but I have to. tl;dr don't worry you are likely just sketching yourself out This is ubiquitous among true thugs. After having successfully thugging it out for so long it is the method it only seems flat in progress of thugging it out ability has had a progressive overload because the ability to thug it out progressed at the same rate the required difficulty and volume of thugging it out encountered. Certain points in life true thug or otherwise there a quantum leap in the difficulty and total volume of ordeals but the progress can't match such an abrupt escalation. Ultimately a true thug adapts but starting the process of adaptation it is so devastating a true thug not realizing the growth they have experience up until that point don't initially realize that a true thug must take thug it out having to thug it out. It is first like imposter syndrome because it is a jarring experience but then after ya don't realize it is the syndrome you think you are an imposter. However no growth exists along that path and the conclusion is never fully certain so you just test out the behavior pattern of it being just the syndrome and you'll be just so sure you are going to get exposed as a legit imposter but no risk to give yourself a chance then after you refuse to give-up on yourself then you feel silly for having ever doubted yourself. A true thug must do true thug things.

    I clicked this because I'd never heard the term "thugging it out" before. So I learned that. But unfortunately, you will be "thugging it out" your whole life in a lot of different ways. Though, I gotta say, when I left teaching and entered the horticultural / retail world, I felt a lot more .... relief? I wasn't "thugging it out" day in day out. I'd go to work knowing I was JUST GOING TO WORK. I didn't have to constantly think about work and bring work home with me. I was so much freer. Not all jobs have equal 'responsibilities'. ...I took a noticeable pay cut to reduce stress, and now I'm poor and have those troubles in my life. But I feel like "going without" is so much less hassle than constantly having my mind on work.

I am shocked that so many Adults are unable to understand Advertising tactics and manipulation in Marketing. This why it is so important for Parents to Parent their children. I still can't understand who the Audience of Mr Beast is? He is way too old for anyone under 16 years of age but way too silly for anyone over 20 years old😎💅🏿

    I appriciate this video. I feel like a lot of the comments and responses I've been seeing to these types of allegations against Mr. Beast is "it's not criminal so who cares" and I think that really misses the point. The point of bringing attention to these allegedly fake videos isn't to start a lawsuit, it's because people should know when they are being lied to. It also just adds to the overall picture. There are pretty serious accusations of wrongdoing against Jimmy, and knowing he's not authentic or willing to be immoral in smaller things lends credibility to the idea that these more serious claims could be true.

    You have genuinely changed my mind about this. I was in the "I never liked Mr. Beast" camp but also found most of the criticism of his videos being fake to just be jumping on the drama train. My thoughts were "it's just reality TV, everyone knows that's fake." Without really considering that a) with an audience of mostly young kids of course the majority of his audience would believe him uncritically, and b) if even one person believed him that should be enough to be upset that he lied. Thank you for this video!

    How would u feel if ppl changed the color of black ppl in tv shows or movies? Personally idc but I do think it’s weird

    I'm sorry but like, lying in brands is not a big deal at all. Every single TV show that is "Reality" is manufactured and you don't see people calling it an evil act. You're a child mad as hell because Santa Claus wasn't real. What should be focused on MORE is the obvious damaging workplace conditions rather than "But he lied and muh feelings are hurt!"

      But Santa Claus IS real! Hmph 😤 lol anyway yea I figure ppl would still feel the way u do, and yea the more serious allegations of the workplace is relatively more important, but that's the idea right there. I think he was only able to cover up such big lies BECASUE ppl just say the smaller ones don't matter, so he kinda just took advantage of that ignorance. Also, he technically isn't a "reality show" he's a youtuber trying to BE one, and someone who swore up and down that no he never faked any vids, and that why he's so much better than other youtubers and all that. It does make u wonder, if he lied about his videos, what else could he lie about as long as ppl are okay with being lied to?

    One thing I find is interesting is that Mr beast is by all objective merits the largest gameshow in the world. So the fact that he doesn't have to follow basically any competition based laws is crazy. But on the other end having a youtubers being liable to these kinds of laws would open a massive can of worms of when are you liable to these sorta things. It makes this whole Mr beast drama so adkward because the moment he is truly brought down all other youtubers will suffer due to a likely addpocalypse. Are we as a community willing to sacrifce our income for the sake of the integrity of the platform? As much as I want to say yes it's kinda difficult to answer that with all my heart.

    Parents really need to realize kids need balance. They need to grow up humble but not completely untrustable

    Parents not trusting their kids ever and not showing them respect will make them grow up to not trust themselves which is such a dangerous path to go down.

    mr beast aint that bad also youtubers have to make money somehow?

    • @Kaysaja
      @Kaysaja 10 дней назад

      Yea that's true, being a content creator myself of course u wanna make money off of the work u put into videos, so there's nothing wrong with that, buuuut does he have to lie to his audience to make that money? It's kinda like making excuses for a robber and being like "well he's gotta make money cus getting a job is difficult " or something of that nature, there's more ethical ways to make money than to lie and exploit ur viewers, and also mistreating your workers as well.
