i like the idea of absurdity and surrealism in fashion as art, my favorite style of art is surrealism so i can understand wanting to translate that into clothing. but if theyre trying to genuinely market it as wearable in an every day sense or even as formal wear, like no. some stuff in fashion i think comes out in the wrong medium, it belongs on a canvas or in a museum, because it is interesting to look at but not like, in actuality as wearable items.
I've reached the point where I view fashion influencers as anime protagonists because that the only way i can rationalize some of the outfits they put together.
honestly, i was a croc hater until i actually got them but all of these shoes are an abomination (you should of added the croc cowboy boots💀). whoever is like “wow, those are so nice. i want those!” i genuinely need to have a thorough talk with them🤨

I'm certain that all of the examples with brands - Crocs with pop tarts, crocs with KFC, lays tote bag, nike and ben & jerry's - were just advertising in the end with small production runs. And I am really getting tired of the entitlement these brands feel like they have to our attention. It's not enough that they inundate every website, every billboard, and every newspaper with an ad but they need to influence our culture too. The big red boots I will weakly defend because they set out to make Astro Boy boots and by golly they did it. Search up Astro Boy and see; they're an exact match. Just the right amount of goofy in my opinion. And if it was an ad it was much more subtle. Nobody knows the company behind the big red boots unless they search for it. Would I buy them or wear them? No, not even if they were an "affordable" novelty. But that's okay sometimes. I guess the problem is when everything is trying to be that. I could not care less about any celebrities wearing them or what celebrities are wearing in general too.
Heres a fun fact to support your hatred of crocs: In the movie Idiocracy, (I wanna say 2004 but I might be wrong) it’s set in a dystopian world full of trash where everyone is stupid. The costume designer went out to find the dumbest, ugliest, weirdest shoes they could find, and found a very small company at the time called Crocs. And everyone in the film is wearing them, wayyyy before they were popular

A lot of the things shown at the beginning I actually really love-- especially the ones where the dresses are just rotated on the model's bodies, because of course, I am pretentious and love modern art-- but! I... do think there should be two different industries between high art fashion ( or, as for the uglier fashion, low brow surrealism fashion [ which is a genre of high art! ] ) and fashion actually meant to wear and make the wearer feel beautiful and comfortable in it. Instead of this one fashion industry that can sometimes lean too hard in one direction and neglect the other. Like with general art, there is a reason we separate high art and commercial art/decorative art. I think fashion needs to be willing to admit that they aren't pushing boundaries, they are simply completely outside the boundaries of functional fashion at this point and they should refer to themselves as a different medium of art because of that-- and promote and sell their products differently and more limitedly to avoid waste.

Croc are literally boat shoes there basically sandals you’re supposed to wear them when go fishing the hole are for water drainage and to let them air out. I never understand why people make fun work shoes like this.

I guess maybe I don't understand 😅 I figured that making fashionable items for profit was the ultimate goal, except for runway fashion and stuff, I mean that's more for who can draw the most attention, but I don't get what business are thinking when they make certain clothing for sale that isn't practical. I was under the impression that cute clothes would be the main goal cus, well, that's what the people want lol but could you explain what the fashion industries true motives are?
