The toughest part is finding quality men’s fashion channels, unfortunately when you search “men’s fashion” a lot of what you showed here pops up.. I need more authenticity from the content to truly get something out of it
This is so true Eddie! I wish I had said that in the video haha. The fact that these channels pop up first will make a lot of people think this is the only way to dress.
The problem with these channels is they're trying to apply traditional sartorial "rules" to everyday-wear, subsequently forcing everyone to wear the same thing, not encourage people to experiment and find their own style. People strictly following these "rules" are stuck in the 2000s, are clones of each other and not having fun with fashion.
@@JamesLeung i think the other take is that those channels are trying to appeal to as many people as they can and they can't just say "it just depends on your body size and shape so wear what you like." It is much easier and effective to give hard and fast rules to get most of the population up to a baseline and then let the people figure things out for themselves as their own personal style as they go along
These channels have also been around forever and they got comfortable with whatever was the advice of the moment when they started. As much as they might have been helpful back in those days, they failed to evolve and now they just keep spewing the same advice they gave back then. Even their shouting style is bothersome and outdated.
How to mute a channel? I was looking for a way to do this, because this particular „Mens Fashioner” pops up on my searches and it's annoying as it's one of the worst channels I have ever seen.

I feel sad for people who try to live up to these ”rules” what they ”should not do”… Everyone should dress as they like and feel no matter ones age ect.
The whole "strong rules" thing feels very late 00's as well, just like with those make-over shows you had on TV Although their style is indeed more 10's
Everybody is free to dress as they like, but not everybody will look good if they do so. What you're saying may feel compassionate to you but ultimately does many people a disservice.
Yeah definitely NOT a fan of her channel. She rants and goes on tangents about what "everybody" supposedly likes and hates. Even if she had something relevant to say, no one could hear it over the whining and judgey overtones. That other dude is just loud and annoying. Pass on both of them!!
She seems like a person I don't ever want to be around, cuz she would critique everything. That's if she's even the one writing these things and not just reading off a script. Also she don't look like someone I'd go for looks wise anyway.
I can't believe I used to watch them before hahaha especially Jose Zuniga, but I mostly have taken their advices with a grain of salt. I agree they shared some solid advices mostly those that are "timeless" and "staple" but some are indeed outdated now compared to when I used to watch them during 2015-2017. Now, I watch your content, Tim Dessaint's, Drew Joiners', and Harry Has'! Even though I don't have the super duper exact fashion as yours (since my wardrobe is still mostly slim fits with slowly incorporating of looser/relaxed fits) I still stay for the tips and advices since you mostly tell your audience to wear what makes ourselves comfortable and at the same time keeps the audience updated with trends.
what I hate the most about those channels like Alpha M, and channels alike, is their almost religious-like, dogmatic apporoach to fashion, annnddd their weird messages on masculinity, like, if u don´t wear your pants strictly like THIS, you dress horribly, you don´t have fashion sense, you are not "man enough", or when they say things like, "every man has to have this set of items", when BRUH, fashion is all about originality, experimentation and self expression
Correct. I am 74 and wear graphic rock tees like Bob Dylan & Led Zep and people have stopped me on the sidewalk to compliment me, which cracks up my wife. I also have my own style and stick to it. I'm skinny so I wear skinny jeans, which on me look like normal jeans (yeah, I'm really skinny). And I wear black cafe racer jacket, etc.
Was just about to comment how annoying the shouting guy was. Ironically his video is about what grown men shouldn’t do, I’m pretty sure grown men don’t need to be spoken to like children
Pinterest can work if you're searching for specific styles, trends, etc. If you just search mens fashion then you will definitely get the mid 2000s outdated look.
One of the things I love about U is your calm presentation. Fashion can be stressful sometimes - sounds weird but it’s a thing, and the yellies U showed already make me switch off. I also agree satorially with your agrees and disagrees.
These people are looking for a more "formal"/"traditional" look. It works. The problem is that you end up looking like a posh rich dad, It's a matter of taste, I hate that look. Not for me. Stucked in the same looks all the time, straight line fashion.
I just recently discovered your channel mate and you're a real breath of fresh air. I appreciate your genuine take on men's clothing. Most of these men's "fashion" channel, especially that annoying lady at the beginning, really grinds my gears. They are presciptive and boring. In the same vein, you've got real men real style, teaching men fashion, and gentlemen's gazette which is downright costumey and outdated.
I don’t consider those “fashion channels” they’re life style channels giving you a blueprint in a formulaic way in what to wear how to wear it and how to act. That’s not fashion at all.
I was never able to get into either of these channels. They have such a judgey and obnoxious overtone. They're simply hard to watch or take seriously. I always appreciate your fresh, open-minded, chill, realistic approach to fashion and style.
It’s bad how transparent these channels only care about the monetisation of their viewers rather than their best interests formulated ‘negativity drives engagement’ sewer tier fashion advice
Kind of disagree on the pinterest point. You just have to know what to search for. ‘Mens fashion for winter’ will give you hideous results. But if you search for a specific item/brand/person you usually get the results you want
Love hearing your insight on these advices, and hit the nail on the head with Pinterest. Traditional sartorial rules always have an exception, and those exceptions combined with thoughtful and articulated style often result in beautiful ensembles.
Every single time I watch these sort of "fashion" channel I just facepalm. I mean, I work in a laboratory at a University; I'm almost never sitting behind a desk, on my feet most of my day, and getting in and out of PPE. I can't imagine any of their advice working for me at all. And I'd imagine that to be the case of the majority of men out there. If i want to get ready for a GAP or a Banana Republic lookbook photoshoot, then these advice would be prudent. For everyone else out there, understand this: the only reason they keep pushing our these sort of contents is because A) They are simply using it as a platform to segway into their sponsors contents, and B) controversial and outrageous contents drives views and engagement, satisfying the algorithms and increase earnings. Don't use these sort of drivels as advice.
I think the point that's being missed by some is that there can be value in getting comfortable with mid-tier clothing and fits before you level up and branch out. You can look a little cut and paste, or Capsule Wardrobe TM, in this phase, but it does tend to give you a nice base to build a wardrobe around. Although most or all of the items called out in these vids have been effectively styled by people in the know, the sort of people who are likely to be watching these videos are also likely to be abusing these items in their own wardrobe. To me, I think there are good points that have been missed in these vids.
Dude, so happy I stumbled upon your channel... You have inspired me to get back into fashion and trying to find my style! Funny to think that only a few years back I used to watch Alpha M (although I have always found the channel name cringe), looking for guidance. Both channels suck, honestly. Thank you for what you do! Cheers all the way from Brazil!
I started following you back in the days when neoprene was used in tee shirts and hoodies. It’s cool to see where you’ve come and where our styles have evolved since then
A lot of fashion RUclipss give advice as if all we do is go to work, Job interviews, nice dinners , date nite or meet significant other. Most of the time we’re just running errands or doing casual stuff with friend’s .
The "mens fashioner" channel is not my favorite. I never make it far in her videos, and when I do, I just feel like I'm being scolded like a small school boy (and I'm 30). When in this corner of youtube I want to hear fashion ideas, be inspired, and learn about the way other people (dissimilar to me) might dress! Thanks for being part of that corner James!
The sock thing works. Most of the time people are wearing long pants and the socks are really only seen when sitting down. The novelty socks add a splash of color for more informal outfits. Someone who is a musician can express individuality without something like a graphic tee with piano socks.
Yeah I don’t actually have an issue with colourful socks. It just seemed odd that she said graphic tees and logo hoodies were childish but in my eyes taco and sushi socks are a bit immature too. It’s all personal preference I guess
🙏 more of these! Seems they’re straight forward to make and there’s an edginess to you directly confronting the hypocrisies and outdated tropes. Obviously many of these channels offer more than just BS. There’s good stuff in there. You’re reach and influence calling out the BS will help set a better precedent ! Also I think if you do this 1 channel per video, channel by channel, and include the name in the title, you’ll stand to get a lot of overlap viewers 🤷♂️
Thank you man! I’ll definitely do some more in the future, and yes 1 per video would be better because this one took me ages to film and edit haha. Thanks for watching
I think its easier for a large channel catered towards complete style beginners to tell people to stay away from generally divisive things without going into in depth explanations how you can style these things and make them work.
Aye as a guy who is 28 now and loved alpha m. during my college years because he was one of the few men who taught me how to dress better and things surrounding becoming a man like what kind of women to not date and how to better your hairstyle and how being a man doesn't mean you can't cry, he did help me out a lot during my young adult life. Unfortunately nowadays him and that lady's channel is moreso focused on preying on men's insecurities and giving a vibe that you as a man should solely live to get women's validation so u should dress this way or get this cologne bc women like it, etc. That's NOT the right message for men to become better. That just further injures their problem with their self esteem and mental issues with themselves and women.
@@JamesLeung Absolutely :/ I guess their delivery is good for views but it damages men and doesn't help them internally nor make them a mentally healthier
Hey man, I've found your channel very recently - love your work and the message you sent out there! You show this very nice and kind of rare (!) attitude, pushing us to try to find ourselves and our own taste in this fashion world instead of forcing us to fit to yours view on male's fashion. Even if I have some different opinions (espadrilles slander?? And being cool with mismatching leathers? Wow...) i still want to watch the video because I'm interested in your opinion :)
Thank you for the kind words! Yep fashion is all about personal taste so I’m more than happy for people to disagree with me haha. It makes things interesting! Thanks for watching
@@JamesLeung Thanks for making such content! I wonder how can one get featured in yours rating viewers outfits video? It's kind of tempting to hear your take on my humble attempts
Those channels are like the equivalent to a videogame tutorial. Good advice for beginners but definitely not clothes you want to be wearing in the end.
Pinterest can be great for men’s fashion you just have to take some time to train the algorithm to show you things you like, and know the right keywords to use.
Harry Has, Modest Man (Brock McGoff), Tim Dessaint and Courtney Ryan are great alternatives to check out imo, not only do they provide very valuable fashion advice, they also provide great health and wellbeing habits to keep while improving your overall appearance. The key thing is that they're not as 'in your face' and outspoken as Ashley Weston (Men's Fashioner) and Alpha M are. Like I've seen one of Ashley's videos complaining about Gilets (Bodywarmers) and I'm like seriously? If people want to wear them then they should, they're like the perfect thing to wear during Spring and Autumn, not as bulky as coats and jackets can be, but they'll keep your body warm appropriate for the temperature and they have pockets in which you can keep your keys, phone etc. Plus they're very useful to wear while driving as they allow full movement of your arms while steering. Her argument is that they look goofy and uncool but if wear them with a long sleeve shirt, dark wash jeans and boots it puts together a great robust and masculine look, especially with the sleeves rolled up. For a more casual look, they even look great with hoodies.
@@JamesLeung Many comments seem to indicate you have a younger more casual audience. That lack of experience (rather than immaturity) tend to show their lack of knowledge of style vs fashion. As well they seem to miss the basic concept that there are channels better suited to some ages and or audiences than others. Gentleman's Gazette and The Chaps Guide are not trying to get you laid like Alpha M (who has a lady btw, but doesn't act like it) but they are geared to the 30-50 year olds not the 17-25 year olds. A channel like RMRS is not trying to get you to dress because you like it as a hobby, but rather tying to dress you for success in the business world.
Courtney Ryan is just a toned down, more friendly version of Ashley. She's way too basic. Dessaint on the other hand is an antithesis of Ryan. He tends to give good advice, but his style is definitely geared towards more progressive folks, thus mentioned isn't isn't practical for everyday use. Brock is also quite basic, but he' s basic done right kind of a guy. He knows what's he's preaching, and everyday, pragmatic, practical approach he upholds will works for most of the folks. The only problem is the fact that he isn't into creating fashion content anymore, so it's kinda a dead end. It's understandable. It doesn't seem that way, but he's kinda an older guy, he has a family, kids and bills--real problems to worry about. Harry would be a way to go. Basic enough to be practical, but creative enough to stand out. Not too much, but not too little either. Perfect balance...he is good.
@@mr.anti-hero4398 Yeah all good points, I get that the likes of Courtney and Brock are quite basic but at least they make things easier for men style wise, it's always great to feel confident in your clothes without having to spend lavishly. Most importantly it's timeless advice as well, they look at fashion through a long term perspective rather than just blindly following the trends. Imo, I'd say it's great to mix things up in your wardrobe, of course have the classic basics but have the more experimental clothes like your summer shirts, Christmas jumpers, graphic t-shirts etc. Graphic t-shirts always look great with jeans during the spring/summer.
I actually really like fanny packs/crossbody bags. if you already store your phone, wallet, and keys in your pants, you have the entire bag for whatever other small items you might carry throughout the day. They're usually quick release buckled, and are compact enough to be easy to store in your car, possibly even in your glove compartment if it's a small enough bag. I think they can be a fun casual accessory that has actual function. Maybe that's just because I think Kintaro Oe from "Golden Boy" is a pretty simple and casual but weirdly stylish character though.
Another great video James. I got a denim jacket that we talked about in the last video but not an AllSaints one and I don’t like the colour (dark blue, almost black) of this denim jacket so I’m going to op for the AllSaints one when I can. Have a good day.
As mentioned at 10:27 Pinterest is not the place to go to for fashion, but I was wondering where to look instead? I'd be thankful for any kind of help ^_^
Great video, loved hearing your takes. I think the common thread with these channels is that they're all older millennials who are generally stuck with, what are now, outdated fashion views. To be fair, I'm an older millennial myself, and 10-15 years ago would 100% agree with everything they're saying. Heck, I used to watch these channels when they started and they don't seem to have changed their view whatsoever, which is a bit weird imo for folks who are dealing with something so fluid as fashion 🤷🏻♀ Really appreciated your gentle humane takes that clothing should just be something people enjoy vs the message of these channels which is mainly "because otherwise you're childish" or "that's just how it should be". Chef's kisses all the way x
I find it weird that people hate on fun socks and underwear. I always found them to be like a little secret for men. Just like women have fun/ sexy lingerie, us men can have fun socks and underwear with silly patterns that can show off our personalities.
I just can’t ever get over the crocs thing? I guess when growing up they were just for young children (no laces) and people with money but with no style. And how big of a staple they’ve become in the US, mostly due to their marketing, the same person responsible for this awful new Stanley Cup trend…they’re also the culprit shoe chose for the movie “Idiocracy” and were chosen specifically as a goof
With all of this in mind, I might have to reconsider my fashion choices. I'm convinced don't have a personal style at all. The problem is I don't know which direction to take to solve this problem. My only options are: a) Continue the AlphaM/TMF/Pinterest way of menswear, but be seen as boring and basic. Nobody likes boring and basic. The StraightTok vs AltTok era made me feel some type of way. b) Find out what is not considered "boring and basic", but then I would feel like a poser since I'm portraying something I'm not - I'm not at all a creative, never involved in any -core/aesthetic communities, etc. And on top of that end up being out of touch. I'm only 23 yet I don't relate with the way GenZ-ers express themselves on social media. c) Get inspiration from my favorite rappers, but get accused of glazing/cultural appropriation/racism. Everyone tells me to "be myself" but I don't know who I am. Is it over for me?
Thanks James these gave me a good laugh, although to be honest some of their attitudes seemed pretty toxic and unhelpful. The black and white, utilitarian way of seeing clothing is suppressing men’s confidence in expressing themselves with fashion. I am glad we now have channels like yours, Tim’s, harry has and DS. You all bring a diverse and kind vision of fashion for every men so thank you again!
I currently live in South Korea and also follow the first guy showed! The oversized/baggy fit is very popular here, so when you are shopping, many items are “free size”. Basically, one size fits all. Which is why there is only one size offered. Even if you’re a massive individual, it’ll still be hanging off your body in someway. Additionally, we see a lot of the formal trousers as a common base layer here, paired with a simple tee or button down. While super cool looking, depending on where you live, many people dress very similar to one another, which is actually a common thing in Korea. You will see at least 30 people wearing a similar outfit to the guy in the first picture on a day in July🤣
Yeah I had to unsub from mens fashioner. Style is so subjective and everyone is different. I personally like a minimal aesthetic with no logos, classic pieces and slim jeans/pants. Others might want graphic tees, cargo shorts and follow the baggy trend. It all depends on what you like and there’s no right or wrong (most of the times). However I do respect Alpha M as an entrepreneur
All those fashion channels are pretty bad. I can't believe casual people made them into who they are today, they gained a lot of traction they don't deserve for just mediocre advice.
I wear dress pants normally so I can't really complain about that like the idea that wearing dark wash jeans is a good idea some people don't like the look of jeans I don't like the way the fabric feels because I'm on the Spectrum so yeah and that's a thing like the idea that you should always wear dark wash jeans I guess what she's saying their versatile but I don't personally really care either way why is cuz I'm a dude and I don't care that's the thing I'm going to do I don't care what I'm wearing I can't really say that what I wear is any better but at least it's better than like 90% of like what most people wear today also I agree with that like Pinterest Pinterest is all about it's all about taunting how you look best thing Pinterest is not all about looking good it's all about showing off how much money you have
I remember, back in 2005, a classmate of mine got ruthlessly bullied for wearing crocs. They really were not cool at all. I think they are ugly. Especially in comparison to great menswear of the 1950s and before. Just looks so bad! Those are the type of shoes you wear to take the trash out.
When it comes to fashion i follow some very simple rules. Make sure it fits and is comfortable. Avoid labels, paying for expensive fashion brands only to give the brand free advertising has never made any sense. Avoid mismatching colours or cuts. Wear the right clothes and footwear in the right season.
I try to take all these channels as having a certain audience and having a certain design philosophy, so I dont really care what they think or believe when I am not part of that audience. That aside, alpha m is just a husk at this point being a boost for some genuinely awful brands like MVMT watches. I understand the influencer economy is difficult to sustain but so many of these channels are just thinly veiled commercials. The other factor of course is that being deliberately inflammatory drives engagement, and engagement positive or negative is $$$.
Absolutely mate, you can see right through the videos which are built around advertising something in the middle. It wouldn’t be so bad if the thing they were advertising was good but it is often rubbish haha. Thanks for watching!
Totally disagree with the Pinterest thing. Pinterest is going to tailor it's recommendations to what you've already shown interest in. They have tons of runway photos, Japanese street style, basically anything you could want. The ads for Pinterest are not representative of what's on there because pins on Pinterest are uploaded by its users. Id recommend building a library and avoiding the homepage after you've done so.
I think these channels have value if you are just starting off and have zero sense of style. Not all to advice is good though (I also don’t get why she likes espadrilles so much, and they are both too harsh with some Critique). And even if some advice is kind of outdated I think it’s good to know the basic rules of men’s fashion so you can intentionally break them as you start to understand what you like more.
Just a reminder. These channels (and others far worse than them) are heavily targeted at children and tween boys finding their place in the world. They know this and it’s why they yell so much in their videos and promote what they do. It all gets a bit dark and boring when you realise their target audience. Like Elmo for fashion capitalism.
The thing that gets me is the super crisp white shoes. So what do you do for leaving sell weed. I have a couple pairs of boots that are and they get scuffed here and there. Even in NY you are getting in out storms and weather. Subways etc. I do believe that if your going to a nice restaurant and yes have a nice pair of leather shoes.
I think there always has to be some sort of traditional view of style that represents maturity in order for people to experiment and deviate from. So in a way, fashion needs people with outdated ridiculous rules.
Alpha M looks and acts like he’s permanently stuck in 2010, men’s style and fashion was so bad back when he was relevant that it was honestly not completely terrible.
I think sometimes these "never wear" videos are useful less as instruction manuals (even if they seem to be advertised as such) and more as tools to see what I may agree with or disagree with in an effort to better understand my own taste for my own body. Though frankly, I don't think there are many fashion or clothing videos that I 100% agree with - even on this channel.
No branding for me - I despise branded clothing - classic ,clean, unbranded and neutral color pallet , make you looked put together , you have good hygiene and some class. Also it says you can afford to think about what you wear. As long as everything is put together and fits properly. Quality over quantity
What I enjoy in yours and some other fashion channels that you are sharing your thoughts and ideas. Not telling anyone what to do and no to do. Because usually we all have our own styles that might differ from yours and still lots of your content is really inspiring and helpful. And I prefer oversized and loose style. „Mans Fashioner” channel is one of the worst I have ever seen. I have once, accidentally, seen part of a video telling me what should I not wear when I'm over 30. What a bunch of crap this girl is trying to sell us. Avoid at all cost.
Genuine question, I´ve also noted men´s outfits generally looking outdated-ish on Pinterest. Any suggestion on better alternatives etc? Except this gem of a channel of course!
My argument to those channels is “STAY ON YOUR LANE” if you are not in to the street style don’t judge it with your old, conservative, wanna look executive eyes! AND on top of that… they are talking to their audience very bad! When you on the other hand, you are making suggestions and you are giving ppl alternatives! I wanna hang out with you and discuss our points on fashion … not them! 😂
She never said anything about men not wearing leather. It's about the type of leather for different ages. She's all for suede leather for older gents so they don't look like Lenny Wosniak.
These two who identify as "fashion stylists" are not only annoying to the extreme with their loud preachy voices, but they are clearly clueless as to what finding your own personal and individual style really means. If these two were given the task to dressing every single man in town, they d turn the town into the most predictable, boring AF place to be.
If you want the breeze from wearing sandles, you should probably check out shoes that are perforated instead. That way its not as lame looking? But still give you some breathability. You could wear those with no socks or maybe even thin socks
I still don't understand crocs, but I guess it's cause I'm an ancient millennial. In the early 2000s, when I was a teen, they were very much shoes older people wore who didn't care at all of fashion. Now it's done a complete 180.
alpha M stresses me out. and that other dude (i forgot his name). they’re so hyper exaggerated energetic and aggressive when speaking. they talk like they’re bossing people around. it’s like they’re yelling at their audience. i just wanna tell them “bruh, chill the f out.”
I think this chanels are a good starting point, they will give you the basics and some "rules" to dress, but they are not going to help after a while when you are trying to find your own personal style.
I can imagine the Toms trend made you never want to see espadrilles again, but you can't make the argument that they look worse than Crocs! Most of them are just fabric loafers
Man! The part about the graphic socks had me in stitches! This was a really enjoyable video!
Haha, it’s absolute madness!! Thank you bro 👊

I have learned there is no such thing as "timeless" and that's done more to help me. What should be more promoted is "versatile".
@@Drownedinblood that is indeed a better term! I haven't thought of it that way until now... food for thought haha
what I hate the most about those channels like Alpha M, and channels alike, is their almost religious-like, dogmatic apporoach to fashion, annnddd their weird messages on masculinity, like, if u don´t wear your pants strictly like THIS, you dress horribly, you don´t have fashion sense, you are not "man enough", or when they say things like, "every man has to have this set of items", when BRUH, fashion is all about originality, experimentation and self expression
Yeah well said! Very dogmatic like you say.
And I wear black cafe racer jacket, etc.
i really hate when they say "every man needs a suit" i don't go to any formal events so what do i need a suit for?
Alpha male is a short man with a big complex.
There should be a dogma. Fast fashion is stupid anyway and destroying the world. I agree on originality and expression, but classic never fades.
I hate it when creators are too shouty and animated. Just chill. If I want to get shouted at in my spare time, I’ll start doing bootcamp fitness…
Haha 🤣
I agree cause he is just yelling the whole time..
yeah like why is he shouting the whole video😭
you sound like you put people to sleep too
Was just about to comment how annoying the shouting guy was.
That's not fashion imo, it's just... clothings!
Yeah true it is all down to personal taste! Thanks for watching
Their advice even for those styles is still terrible
i hate formal too. trying to go more goth. found some pants with pentagrams. i already have the boots
Yeah there’s a few out there for sure, might have to do a part 2! Thanks so much for watching mate, glad you enjoy my content!
Yeah that’s how I felt, like they’re judging us if we don’t wear what they say 🤣 thanks for the kind words!
I watched Alpha M whenever I needed advice on dressing up but I never followed his advice fully
The problem is the overuse of words like "always" or "never" or "absolutely".
For sure 👍
😂
absolutely
@@kumachan9311 I see what you did there. Yes, that word too.
It’s bad how transparent these channels only care about the monetisation of their viewers rather than their best interests formulated ‘negativity drives engagement’ sewer tier fashion advice
Exactly!
They are negative channels, instead of showing new/other/elevated/better possibilities in a positive way.
Seems there's some correlation: the more a fashion blogger screams in a video, the less you should listen to him
🤣
Kind of disagree on the pinterest point. You just have to know what to search for. ‘Mens fashion for winter’ will give you hideous results. But if you search for a specific item/brand/person you usually get the results you want
Ahh fair point, I tried it a few times and failed but I’ll have to give it another go.
This was actually lowkey hilarious mate, nice vid as always!
Cheers
Haha thanks!
Love hearing your insight on these advices, and hit the nail on the head with Pinterest. Traditional sartorial rules always have an exception, and those exceptions combined with thoughtful and articulated style often result in beautiful ensembles.
Great video James. Such a calm and and respectful response to seemingly angry content
Thank you mate!
That first creator obviousness to mens fashion is next level
Totally correct mate! 👍
I dont usually comment on videos but this video is one of the best best critique videos about these 2 famouse "style" youtubers. Congrats for content!
Thanks so much!
So glad I can help man, thanks for the kind words!
Why is Alpha always shouting in my face? 😄
I started following you back in the days when neoprene was used in tee shirts and hoodies. It’s cool to see where you’ve come and where our styles have evolved since then
Ahh man the good old days! Thanks so much for following mate 🙏
I love your channel dude. I've watched 3 videos in a row straight through
A lot of fashion RUclipss give advice as if all we do is go to work, Job interviews, nice dinners , date nite or meet significant other. Most of the time we’re just running errands or doing casual stuff with friend’s .
Any recommendations for “good” mens fashion channels? Personally I have found Ashleys stuff to be helpful with at least starting on my style trend
James Leung vs Alpha M on the next RUclips boxing event, I've heard 🤣
Haha I dunno he looks in a lot better shape than me 🤣
Ashley from Mens Fashioner did change her opinion on crossbody bags in a more recent video.
Haha yeah I felt the same watching it. Thanks so much mate, glad you like the content!
The lighting in this video is immaculate
Thanks man! Just good old natural sunlight 🙏
The only time you can show off a logo, is with Calvin Klein underwear in bed
@@JamesLeung lol not so straightforward then. my inexperienced take, clearly 👌 but thank you. keep doing you
I think its easier for a large channel catered towards complete style beginners to tell people to stay away from generally divisive things without going into in depth explanations how you can style these things and make them work.
Yeah that makes sense 👍
agreed… same way when some are too vocal about being quiet luxury… the irony.
Agree with you 100%. It’s a shame because they obviously know their stuff but their message is delivered in a strange way.
That makes sense 👍
Yeah they seem to miss the point of practicality which is a hugely important. Love all those channels you mentioned 👍
@@JamesLeung Cheers mate, it's always good to look out for fellow bros haha
Makes sense. Haha yes he is!
Another great video James. I got a denim jacket that we talked about in the last video but not an AllSaints one and I don’t like the colour (dark blue, almost black) of this denim jacket so I’m going to op for the AllSaints one when I can. Have a good day.
Would love to see how you style denim jackets wherever here or on Instagram.
Nice man, hope you like it! Yes a denim jackets video would be good especially for spring. Thanks for watching!
As mentioned at 10:27 Pinterest is not the place to go to for fashion, but I was wondering where to look instead?
I'd be thankful for any kind of help ^_^
I LOVE my Fanny pack while traveling or hiking. You're right it is NOT fashion accessory. It just makes things easier, it's comfort!
Hey James, what brand hoodie are you wearing in this vid?
Weekday 👍
@@JamesLeung Thanks!
Mike Judge's fashion opinions in the 2000s isn't my gospel.
With all of this in mind, I might have to reconsider my fashion choices. I'm convinced don't have a personal style at all. The problem is I don't know which direction to take to solve this problem. My only options are:
a) Continue the AlphaM/TMF/Pinterest way of menswear, but be seen as boring and basic.
Didn't think I'd stick up for crocs, but these shoes rule
Haha they’re great
Thanks James these gave me a good laugh, although to be honest some of their attitudes seemed pretty toxic and unhelpful. The black and white, utilitarian way of seeing clothing is suppressing men’s confidence in expressing themselves with fashion. I am glad we now have channels like yours, Tim’s, harry has and DS. You all bring a diverse and kind vision of fashion for every men so thank you again!
Yeah it’s a shame to box in people’s fashion. Thanks for the kind words mate!
Love the long video format
Glad you liked it man! I am always worried people will be put off by it
He kept a straight face when the woman said wearing a fannypack around your fanny 😂
😅
Hey! What hoodie are you wearing in this video?
Hey hey, it’s from weekday (check out my spring outfits video for more info!)
Love the vids James. Where do you recommend for inspiration if not Pinterest?
I think Instagram is generally better but even that is becoming a bit of a mess!
Fun vid James I like this idea and your commentary was spot on 🔥🔥
Thanks so much bro!
All those fashion channels are pretty bad. I can't believe casual people made them into who they are today, they gained a lot of traction they don't deserve for just mediocre advice.
Your hoodie looks awesome. Could you please tell me where it's from?
Hey man it’s from weekday, I showed it in my spring clothing video a few weeks ago 👍
I wear dress pants normally so I can't really complain about that like the idea that wearing dark wash jeans is a good idea some people don't like the look of jeans I don't like the way the fabric feels because I'm on the Spectrum so yeah and that's a thing like the idea that you should always wear dark wash jeans I guess what she's saying their versatile but I don't personally really care either way why is cuz I'm a dude and I don't care that's the thing I'm going to do I don't care what I'm wearing I can't really say that what I wear is any better but at least it's better than like 90% of like what most people wear today also I agree with that like Pinterest Pinterest is all about it's all about taunting how you look best thing Pinterest is not all about looking good it's all about showing off how much money you have
Alpha M yelling at me is triggering
I know right 🤣
I remember, back in 2005, a classmate of mine got ruthlessly bullied for wearing crocs.
Love it, this is all you need 👍
A few people have said the same thing so I need to give it another go. Thanks for watching
@@JamesLeungof course! Your other points were spot on and you presented them in a fantastic well-mannered way.
Whenever a designer says NEVER stay away.
it all depends on the entire look and the way it is used. This applies to clothing and interior designers.
Yes very true 👍
Just a reminder. These channels (and others far worse than them) are heavily targeted at children and tween boys finding their place in the world. They know this and it’s why they yell so much in their videos and promote what they do. It all gets a bit dark and boring when you realise their target audience. Like Elmo for fashion capitalism.
The thing that gets me is the super crisp white shoes. So what do you do for leaving sell weed. I have a couple pairs of boots that are and they get scuffed here and there.
Even in NY you are getting in out storms and weather. Subways etc.
I do believe that if your going to a nice restaurant and yes have a nice pair of leather shoes.
what is their obsession with the boring and basic white shoes? i'd never wear them. somehow my feet are only comfortable in platform boots
Your zip up hoodie looks like a good quality piece. Where did you get that from?
It’s from weekday, it’s lovely! I talked about it in my spring outfits video if you want more info
I think there always has to be some sort of traditional view of style that represents maturity in order for people to experiment and deviate from. So in a way, fashion needs people with outdated ridiculous rules.
she is so self contradictory it's crazy
Alpha M looks and acts like he’s permanently stuck in 2010, men’s style and fashion was so bad back when he was relevant that it was honestly not completely terrible.
I think sometimes these "never wear" videos are useful less as instruction manuals (even if they seem to be advertised as such) and more as tools to see what I may agree with or disagree with in an effort to better understand my own taste for my own body. Though frankly, I don't think there are many fashion or clothing videos that I 100% agree with - even on this channel.
That’s a great way of looking at it. Totally understandable, I sometimes disagree with myself especially after a few months haha.
No branding for me - I despise branded clothing - classic ,clean, unbranded and neutral color pallet , make you looked put together , you have good hygiene and some class. Also it says you can afford to think about what you wear. As long as everything is put together and fits properly. Quality over quantity
Agreed 👍
What I enjoy in yours and some other fashion channels that you are sharing your thoughts and ideas. Not telling anyone what to do and no to do. Because usually we all have our own styles that might differ from yours and still lots of your content is really inspiring and helpful. And I prefer oversized and loose style.
„Mans Fashioner” channel is one of the worst I have ever seen. I have once, accidentally, seen part of a video telling me what should I not wear when I'm over 30. What a bunch of crap this girl is trying to sell us. Avoid at all cost.
PS. I wouldn't be able to watch second video you're showing. I hate when someone is screaming their opinions.
Genuine question, I´ve also noted men´s outfits generally looking outdated-ish on Pinterest. Any suggestion on better alternatives etc? Except this gem of a channel of course!
You've nailed it whit that haircut, nice one! ❤ And those creators are indeed amongst the worst 😂
Thanks mate!
Never take anything from Ashley Weston seriously! She attack men with leather jacket really? All this channels I take advices with a gain of salt!
Yeah exactly!
Where’s the sweatshirt you’re wearing from? It’s really nice
Thanks! It’s from weekday!
It’s 2024 lady’s and gentleman wear what you want and what you like, the most wannabe fashion RUclipsrs are really toxic and ignorant.
Agreed!
Yeah definitely some good tips in there 👍
Im convinced all of these menswear channels have some stake in the novelty socks market
I can imagine the Toms trend made you never want to see espadrilles again, but you can't make the argument that they look worse than Crocs! Most of them are just fabric loafers
Haha yeah they’re both kinda ugly!
socks and sandals are like arm warmers they make sense when you’re sensitive to the elements and you appreciate the fire and air element equally
I’ve seen that channel and to put it as kindly as possible, it’s very very hard to watch her
Haha, agreed mate!
