    The problem is that everyone wants to stand out, but in reality there is no problem with just fitting in and dressing “normal” or discrete. Sometimes standing out isn’t always the best especially when you’re traveling. Also, everyone is trying so hard to be different that they end up looking the same. I live in NYC I see this on a daily

    • @JamesLeung

      Very true! I always find that when a new trend comes along you see a lot of people take it to the extreme to a point where it doesn’t look good anymore.

    • @sharky1854

      True allot off people want to be special but in reality they dress exactly the same as there friends. This is why I try to wear what I like and not care if others wear the same or something completely different. If everyone does this than there would be allot more diversity in my opinion

      Yeah for sure! Unfortunately most people don’t want to see the same outfits being worn again even though it’s realistic. Thanks Harry!

    I really liked your analysis of this topic and I find that your ability to express topics that can be complex to navigate really helpful for my understanding of them. So thank you! Just wanted to say that l also always feel like I come away from your videos having reassessed my relationship with fashion/clothes for the better. Great video James!

    Great video as always! The reason I feel as though I have not progressed in my fashion journey/evolution at all is that I admit I was way too easily influenced by the social media fashion elitists such as Alex Costa. In a way I've started to view them more as gatekeepers to the world of social media fashion than anything. Its also nauseating that every single video is basically 70% an advertisement for either their own brand or occasionally another one. On Instagram all their stories are a flex of some high end brand he's working with.
    Their dominance and over saturation of content makes some other really great content creators to get hidden in my opinion.
    Being brand new I figured that since he has so many followers, and likes on every single post that his style has to be the 'norm' or standard for men's fashion in general. As time went on I became more and more frustrated because I wasn't seeing any growth in my personal style as I was essentially trying to emulate everything he did and the pieces he either recommended or wore in look books that were outrageously expensive or over the top for someone just getting into fashion like myself. I also noticed that alot of other people were also stuck in the same trap as I was. Afraid to share their opposition to his style but instead in a way simped and "loved" every single thing he did without a single bit of objection which in itself is not healthy.
    Alex himself always claimed that his outfits were to "just get inspiration from" but literally never gave any suggestions for affordable alternatives or gave very vague or watered down advice on how you can improve your style.
    I apologize for the rant. However as I've said before I've found that channels like yourself, Harry Has, Peter Nyguen, etc to be far more informative when it comes to fashion than any of the other major channels that most new comers are thrusted upon when they first step into the world of fashion advice on RUclips that I never really got to see until I took the blinders off. I really appreciate the things you guys covered in this video that touches on issues almost exactly how I've been feeling lately.
    I'm definitely going to give this channel a look as well!

      I hear you mate. I think a lot of people are facing the same thing. It’s so difficult to understand what you like and know what to look for when you need inspiration because the most clicked styles will always at the top of the list and in your face when searching. It took me ages to realise what I liked and I still think my tastes are slowly developing.
      Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad I can help if only a little.

      @@JamesLeungAbsolutely. That is so true. I'm also glad to know that I'm not alone when it comes to that aswell. I've come to find out that when following those trends I experience a sense of fomo because I either wouldn't have the funds to buy a certain item or would still be catching up on all the trends from the previous season.

    I’ve tired to branch out of skinny jeans joggers trousers and tried to wear slim some I like but most slim jeans looks like baggy like really baggy and like I’ve given up on life does nothing for me can’t find any slim jeans or trousers that taper at the ankle any tips or places to shop

      If you like skinny pants you should stick with them man! I found I like the Tony tapered pants from Weekday. They’ve a bit more relaxed but with a decent nice taper so they look fitted.

    In my opinion, no one should care what others think about their style as long as they're comfortable and happy with it. I can understand bloggers having a different opinion because a certain style or trend might give them more relevance. I don't even have insta or fb, it's toxic and time consuming but again that's just my personal choice lol. On a positive note, cat purr is very calming 😆

    I’m guilty of this following the trend its not bad but what i’ve learn through the years is its not about what you wear and its about how you wear it. You don’t need to please anyone of what you are wearing. Its your own style/outfit. Wear what you like and what makes you happy. There will always be good and bad opinions like what most people say nothing is perfect.

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  Год назад

      Absolutely mate! You can make really cheap clothes look amazing when you wear them in a certain way. And that’s another good point - there’s no point trying to please people, there will always be haters!

    I'm not sure I understand his ultimate point. There is too much toxic positivity in fashion spaces and you need to be open to criticism to evolve your style, but also you shouldn't pay attention to social media and content that brings you new perspectives and criticism of your style. It seems contradictory. You have to get out of your comfort zone in order to evolve. That I agree with. I follow plenty of people who don't share my style because I want to expand my horizons. At the same time there are definitely people who don't want to "evolve" because they've found something that works for them. Both are valid.

    • @JamesLeung
      @JamesLeung  Год назад

      Yeah I see what you mean. As with a lot of things I think a balance between the two is going to be a good way forward. Not fully one way or the other. As long as you are happy at the end and not stressing yourself out!

    i think something you missed out on and ofc is also difficult to understand when you first watch his videos, is that everything he says is also satire. so the title of the video and basically everything he says most of the time goes against the very point of the video. the whole thing is a joke
