    Greetings earthlings.
    First, thanks for all the support on the video, im glad u enjoy it.
    Second. Theres alot of peeps that misinterpreted some of the things that i said when speaking about assault and clothing and their correlation, and i realize that a short segment in a video isnt enough time to fully explain everything i was trying to say(which i didnt want to make that segment TOO long cus that wasnt my focus) soooo i made a follow up video going in detail about the science and sources, reasoning, and logic behind what i said, i address and counter some of the arguments made by some commenters, as well as clarify statements i made that was changed from ppl putting words in my mouth 😑
    That will be all.

      My husband is having the hardest time lately because all the shorts in stores now are above the knee or going for that “hoochie daddy” vibe and he’s just not comfortable wearing shorts that short. He wants something that falls under the knee and that’s virtually non existent in stores right now. We’ve checked Ross, Marshall’s, the mall even and just about every place besides kohls or Macy’s is selling short shorts. , I’m so frustrated for him because i know exactly what that’s like to not be able to find clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident at the same time. I just hate that the fashion industry now just leans so heavily into whatever is trending and doesn’t stock anything else. Like at the very least have a low stock of shorts that are longer than 20” for the guys who want them.

    I work at Hot Topic which in the recent years has been considered more “family friendly” despite us only selling adult sized clothing, kids come in looking for shirts with their favourite character on them or a Plushie. A lot of clothing we sell is both modest and revealing and weve even begun to carry more plus sizing which is super inclusive and I love to see it. But the amount of little girls between ages 7-11 ish that come in with full faces of makeup/lashes and wearing tiny crop tops or shorts has absolutely appalled me. While I have the very strong belief that anyone can dress how they want, it’s quite a shock to see little girls be influenced to grow up so quickly and think they’re “expected” to wear these things, when they’re quite literally just children. I’m glad this is being spoken about
    EDIT: I think a few people misunderstood some of what I said. I never said there was anything wrong with kids shopping at Hot Topic or that I don’t condone it. I very much welcome it. My comment was simply to point out how I shocked I was that there are a lot of young girls feel like they need to alter their appearance to look older. For the younger people commenting, there’s no need to justify why you shop at Hot Topic. This was not to judge or call you out at all :)

      @@ec9833the problems with a literal child having a full face of make up is quite obvious...
      Their skin isn't made for those adult products. Their skin is more sensitive, and doesn't have the same properties as the adults skin. They also shouldn't have to feel like they need to be adults already. This is basically stealing their childhood. They are going to suffer a lot from being treated as adults while not even 8 years old.
      I wasn't in makeup at all at their age. I got my childhood stolen from me because I needed to do everything from myself, cause no adults would protect me and help me. When it finally started to stop, I was around 13 and I thought that I was just so mature and that it would be a good point in life, a quality, something that would help.
      I didn't grasp that I was destroyed. Nobody does until they are fully out of their problems, and trying to work on their traumas.
      Those girls will realize at some point that what they aren't "mature", that they aren't "so intelligent", that they just never had a childhood.
      Kids who are forced into make up and fashion won't have a childhood. Those kids are getting traumatized and their brain won't be developing correctly.

      Like,
      Dude, how is the little kid going to protect themselves in short shorts? Or how are the supposed to play without the worry of flashing their underwear? All I can think about is the cold too, like, tiny kids are still developing proper resistance against the elements, that's why we make them wear so many layers on winter, and if they trip?? A lil girl in sandals and mini skirt will surely get more damage than a kid wearing longer pants that cover their knees, and what about the creeps that they can encounter on a daily basis?? God as a kid I came across so many strangers that though just because I was relatively easy to reach they had a right to touch me weirdly. Honestly my mind begins to race when I see kids dressing like mini adults nowadays, I think of all the fucked up shit that happened to me as a kid dressing my age and fold it 20x times when I see a kid wearing skin tight clothing like, Jesus aren't those parents scared?? When I was in 4th grade (late 70s), a group of us decided that since Women’s Lib was a thing, we obviously needed Tomboy’s Lib, so we started our own little Tomboy’s Lib group. Just some food for thought. Bring back Tomboy’s Lib! Back then designer jeans had just become a thing, and my mom was pissed at the commercials that sexualizad little girls to sell them, so this problem goes back a ways. We didn’t have social media, obviously, but I don’t recall any problem finding clothes with real pockets, and the “everything must be pink” notion didn’t exist either. Girls’ clothing was something you could play outside or ride your bike in. You could do cannonballs off the diving board without the risk of a major wardrobe malfunction. Girls should be able to go to the playground without being catcalled. Also, the ‘baby tee’ trend sucked the first time around, about 25 or so years ago. This overly revealing clothing for young girls is just as restrictive as women’s clothing of 150 years ago. It may be restricting you in a different way, but it’s still putting you in a box. Girls’ clothing should give them the freedom to be children, to explore and find out who they are, engage in the activities they are interested in, not brainwash you into being fodder for the male gaze. In the world we live in, that will happen eventually, unfortunately, but ffs, stave it off as long as possible. If you’re taking the time to do a full face of makeup when you’re 10, what are you giving up?

    I agree with the general sentiment of this video, but I disagree that this is because of feminism; tweens don't wear crop tops and short skirts to "crush the patriarchy" they wear them because they're tendy and they want to be fashionable. It's an issue with capitalism, microtrends, and fast fashion. This is not new though when I was a kid in the 00s apparently my mum couldn't find trousers that weren't low waisted for me, I do think now it is worse as kids are aware of trends and want to follow them, retailers know this. As a 14 year old girl, I've had the problem of not being able to find modest clothes for a while. I'm curvy and so I get sexualized at every twist and turn and I have had to stop wearing some of my favourite articles of clothing so I wouldn't get sexualized anymore. Its insane, I can't make an outfit without thinking "but will I get catcalled in this?" or "but will I get followed in this?". Luckily, I've never been assaulted before, but goddamn is the option of it happening fucking terrifying. And the worst part is that I can't even find anything that I can wear that ISN'T sexual. I love dresses and skirts, but none go past my knee which is the only way I feel truly comfortable in them. I can't wear leggings, cause I get sexualized and I can't find loose-fitting sport shorts. Shirts are made to stick to my chest, most are cropped, have spaghetti straps or have such a deep neckline that it shows my cleavage. Shorts are so short you can see my ass.
    Its disgusting, I just wanna wear pretty clothes while not getting sexualized. Why is that so hard? When did we decide to remove the option of modesty? (jeez I talked a lot- oops)

    I love skirts, they're fun, cute, and great for the summer time because of how airy they are! Tell me why most trendy skirts I see either have a HUGE slit, some scrunching where the butt is to emphasize it, or are so short that if I were to bend down you'd see my undies. I really have to LOOK for skirts that aren't mini, slit up, with "fashionable" holes, or are just short as hell.
    These day's I've opt for body neutral clothing because I'm so tired of sexualizing my body at every twist and turn. Thankfully, I adore baggy clothes anyway. But I feel terrible for young girls these days, it's so hard to stay a child when everyone is telling you to grow up as fast as you can so you can be molded into the current beauty trend. Movies, shows, clothing, music, cartoons, they're all grooming young girls to grow up so it's "morally grey" for people to sexualize them. (Ie; some sicko trying to convince others that it's fine because the child "looked 18")
    I honestly think it's a tactic. I genuinely believe it's purposeful. And unfortunately, young girls are falling in line. From wearing tons of makeup at extremely young ages (I'm talking 10-14) and doing skin routines to get rid of nonexistent wrinkles. The whole world is telling them to grow up, and when they hit that age of 18 the world tells them to immediately stop aging or face "aging out." or going "past their expiration date" It's sick, sad, and there needs to be a change.

      Edit#2: Back to the police thing, just know that not all police are like that. There are a lot of cool cops out there, and I've encountered a few of them. At the time, I couldn't remember their phone numbers. I drove in the front seat, I dunno if I'm okay, but I did. The cop didn't do anything weird, obviously.
      The same thing happened a few years ago (not the same cop) but in this experience, it was a traffic stop, and the person who was driving the car got arrested over something involving the car or a missed court date or something like that. This trend has been around for ages and it's exhausting. Inseams of girls' shorts, even for really young girls whose bodies are basically the same shape as boys, are on average an inch or two shorter to expose more leg, the material for tshirts is thinner, the cuts are tighter. Even when the clothes aren't just mini versions of adult fashions and they're just basic clothing items they've been tighter and smaller for girls on average for ages, for no reason other than fashions for female-assigned bodies are all designed with appearance over function in mind and femininity is seemingly tied to more revealing, body-hugging styles. One father noted that shorts for *babies and toddlers* barely covered the nappy for his daughter! They weren't designed to 'be sexy', of course, but girls are expected to be less covered. They wonder why we are all so body conscious at younger ages when they won't even make clothes for little girls with movement and durability in mind like they do for boys! But it never needed to be this way - when I was a young child in the 90s, it was easy to find tshirts that didn't ride up, dungarees and trousers and shorts that were the same for boys and girls and just in different colours and patterns etc. That was just the standard. Kids run around, and often wore hand-me-downs, so parents wanted clothes that last and would fit another child or two after the first one grew out of them. This was even a selling point for some brands. Now it's all about selling more and more, so clothes are more hyper-gendered and poor quality and you're shamed if you aren't up to date on trends that change week to week, and as women are a major consumer demographic the notion that even little girls need to be hyper-conscious of their looks and styled in the way that teens and adults are has been pushed more and more. And yeah, if that means women's fashions are often hyper-sexualised, then that seeps down the line too. I remember the first time in the 2000s I saw a playboy-branded t-shirt in a child's size, and it was shocking at the time because why the hell was a porn mag advertising to and on pre-teens? But now dressing up young girls in clothes cut like clubbing outfits is all over the place - because parents bought them, treating their kids like fashion accessories and pushing their image consciousness onto the younger generations, and companies realised they could get away with this. And the same is happening for boys, with children's styles imitating adult men's fashions and influencer parents showing off boys designer 'casual' outfits that look like miniatures of those sold to their fathers, but it's slightly less noticable because men's fashion still covers them. It's all about selling more and more. We've eradicated kids' fashion.

And even if they do have decent size pockets, say, cargo pants, the fabric is so thin and flowy that anything put in your pockets just bounces around and stretches the fabric. Unlike sturdy men's cargo pants that mostly stay in place when walking. I hate it so much. I thrift online so I can search for hours to find good quality, efficient clothing made with less polyester.
    Also, I really love your videos and the way you are so open to others opinions and accept them, even if they differ from your own.

      They're making the shoulders and the area under the armpits wider too, which means a lot of men suddenly look incredibly "skinny" and feel insecure. I'm one of them 😬 I no longer wear dress shirts without a jacket. Every time I tuck them into my trousers, they make me look like a damn muffin from the waist up. Lot of clothing for women and girls is not just revealing but impractical. Less fabric on summer wear means less protection, more risk of sunburn, higher sunscreen cost. Thinner fabric don't last as long and gets damaged from activity or hobbies (little boys clothes often have some rough play in mind, girls isn't - my jeans always used to wear through at the knees when I was a kid). It's basically pink tax in terms of need to purchase other products more, the need to repurchase due to quality etc.

    • @peiithos
      @peiithos 2 месяца назад +34

      It's also the fabric it's made out of, besides the fact that the fabric is thinner and there's less of it theres a higher chance its polyester. polyester is plastic, it's not breatheable, but its cheap. i find wearing polyester in the summer miserable. so it's impractical in even more ways, it's never designed with anything other than appearance in mind.

Like i understand young girls will not see clothes like this as sexual, they would just see it as cool or pretty because so did i as a kid, but ppl need to realize that mothers feel unsafe because no matter what their kid wears they will be sexualized, that's every mother's fear, kids don't need to worry about their looks they should be running outside or playing with toys they really don't need these adult clothes, it's fine to dress ur kid up in this stuff in the privacy of your own home just not outside because if i ever had a kid she is not eye candy for every perv out there in the world, i couldn't protect her from everything but she deserves privacy of her body as a kid and any other age she'd grow up to be

    Female rock climber here. I am 5’1” 110 lbs. Because my sport is heavy on upper-body muscles and because of my genetics, I have broad shoulders and arms relative to my size. I cannot fit into almost any Women’s shirts or dresses with t-shirt sleeves or long sleeves because I am a size small except for my shoulders/arms. The closest women’s size that would fit me would be large, which would be WAY too low cut for my height.
    Thus, I buy men’s small. It is too long on me but it fits the rest of my proportions. Can we just make wider sleeves for SOME women’s clothing? Like can I have a choice if my arms aren’t sticks just because I’m 5’1” and athletic? Is it that hard? I just want normal sleeves, I don’t need the entire freaking outfit to be fitted! If you like fitted things, feel free to wear it! But why does everything have to be that way? It makes it so that the clothing doesn’t even fit everyone because it’s *fitted* to a certain person with certain proportions.
    For dresses with any kind of sleeves I have to get all of the sleeves / shoulders custom tailored after purchasing. This is why I only own 2 fancy dresses. It is a hassle.

    I totally agree with this..I took my lil cousin shopping (she’s 13 so I was open to her having a bit more mature clothes 😌) and I let her go pick out her clothes while I walked around and shopped for myself..about 5-10 mins later she comes up to me and says “I can’t find my size” so I go over to the juniors and go to her size (which is a medium) and almost 90% of the clothes were crop tops or shirts that go way above her belly button🤯 and 5% of the clothes were very revealing which I don’t rlly understand so I go over to a bigger size L-XXL and the clothes are the same they r js wider so i take her to the bottoms section and all the bottoms were shorts that barely even go past her crotch 😭✋and tbh my cousin like dressing a bit grown but even she didn’t want these clothes and thought poorly of them…at the end of the day we js went to a few other stores and found somethings for her to wear and went to Ulta since the clothing haul was a fail 🤷🏾‍♀️

    I’m a girl in my mid-late teens who still enjoys wearing things like shirts with cute cartoon animals, bright colors, bows, girly patterns, unicorns, charm bracelets, and other clothing and accessories that have been labeled as “childish.” I often feel self conscious when I compare my clothes and style to the other girls my age, who often wear clothing that is more revealing and plain. I also rarely wear makeup outside of dance recitals because I have sensory issues that make wearing makeup feel extremely uncomfortable for me. Comparing the clothes in the older children/tween section to the clothes in the teen section at a store always miffs me because of how stark the difference is. It’s almost like clothing manufacturers (or really just adults in general) think that the second you turn 13, you suddenly gain a whole new personality and clothing preferences and will start to prefer neutral/dark colors, tank tops, short shorts, boring patterns, and revealing necklines. While I’m not trying to shame any teens who do like this stuff, it’s disappointing to me that teens like me who prefer more stereotypically girly and childish clothing don’t have any options for their style in the teen section. Because I’m a smaller size and have gone through most of the physical changes of puberty already, I can still shop in the older children/tween section to get the clothes I want, but teens with a similar style to me but are a larger size don’t have that option.
    I’ve also noticed that most of the summer dresses in the teen section almost always have V necks, which is a style I’m not super comfortable with. I can sometimes make it work by wearing a sweater or a tank top with a higher neckline underneath, but layering isn’t great for summer, and that’s when you’re intended to wear those dresses. Again, I think it’s fine for teens who want to wear V necks, but I wish there were versions of those dresses that had a higher neckline so you aren’t limited to one option.

    whenever i see this topic brought up, so many women get so offended and act like YOUR sexualizing them. NO. some clothes are just not meant for 6 yr olds, 8 yr olds, etc. a child should not be going out dresses like a strippers😭. yes, i've very much seen this 😭but many women are ok with that. many mothers just don't care. i find it even more disappointing then when men are creeps
    idk how it went from basically dehumanizing women for being sexual beings, making sex unenjoyable for women, if ur not married by 16 with four kids by 20, then ur washed up with no value.
    to elementary school kids can watch whatever they want, say and act like an adult. they can dress in extremely provocative (like, it's inappropriately sexualized) As a child. dance to explicit songs about sex. post those videos online to a TT trend, And these mothers have no concern at all. it's not ok to sexualize a child ofc, but many women will turn away from adultifying (i know that's not a word) their own daughters.
    i will also say, it's not simply wearing revealing clothing, it's just children wearing clothing that you would find a older teen or young adult wear. it's like what is the difference between those age groups if we're all wearing the same skirts, same styles of dresses, same trendy things. i get children want to dress as an adult, but can't these companies make them more kid friendly ? 😭 sorry but it weird seeing a kid dress the same way i am now as a 20 yr old.

    Honestly I don’t think this is a product of “modern day” feminism, it’s just remaining parts of second wave feminism and the sexual revolution which basically says you just reject everything traditional and puritan just on principal and not understanding that being “sexually liberated” they way that they are/were is just becoming men’s public property rather than private property. Clothes these days are so small in part because all clothes in general are shit quality and the reason little girls are so grown these days is because our society is continually pedophilic and predatory to young girls, back in the ye ol days it was normal to marry a girl off young and this is just a continuation of that.
    Also I grew up Muslim and very modest, I’ve never been shamed by other women/girls for the way that dress, but I have had men/boys complain about it.

And notice how in the studies she cited, what people thought what women would make easier targets conflicted with what predators ACTUALLY said? It’s not about the clothing it’s about power and practicality. Who’s an easier target? A little girl in a light sundress or a woman in the club likely wearing layers of shape wear and a skin tight dress on top?

      @hydratejsn 2 месяца назад +21

      @@ivorylightning4985In all examples you list clothing was dictated by men's preference, but clothing for "sexually liberated women" specifically is pretty recent, so it's nowadays.
      Just to clarify, I have nothing against revealing clothing per se, I think it has potential to normalise women's nudity and eventually prevent sexualisation. But what is currently mainstream mostly looks like torture and anxiety devices and is perv coded. They are not there for the sexy feeling of the wearer but for the interest of a certain type of watcher.
      Also, yes, women are free to choose, but media influences them heavily. And most of the media is not made by women, although that is changing slowly.

    It is super interesting seeing how less covered clothing is tied to feminism in the US. I live in a conservative environment in Eastern Europe and it seems to me here a cleavage, slits, open back and above the knee skirt are seen as very traditionally feminine and therefore not feminist.
    Also, here noone says covering clothes are "modest", just covering. Modesty is a virtue of character. Maybe it's the overlap of the two meanings in English, (implying uncovered women are also unmodest = unvirtuous), that makes feminists not like it?

    • @Kaysaja
      @Kaysaja  2 месяца назад +18

      Wow that's interesting, it definitely depends on a person's perspective and definition, of course not ALL women feel like being less covered means feminism out here, a lot of women define their empowerment differently, but a lot of it is carried in the way we dress now. I definitely think "modest" is kinda used interchangeably out here too, but I should start getting used to saying things like more covered instead

    • @zuzu6864
      @zuzu6864 2 месяца назад

      I'm from Eastern Europe as well, not really that conservative, but what you said relates to here. Slits in dresses or skirts, open back, cleavage revealing shirts are seen very feminine. Thing you would wear when you go out. At the same time, modest clothes are just normal clothes.

    Honestly it sucks how the fashion industry is right now, it is really hard to find anything cute that isn't clingy, in a horrendous color or croped in some way. While I might be fine with croped tops now as an adult, I didn't used to be, I do however still hate the way women's pants and shorts are made, with them being short or tight. I've gotten to the point of looking for bottoms in the boys isles. I should probably note that my family usually solved the crop top problem for children with layering the tops over tank tops or hours of going from store to store.

She would tell me to pair them with a dress or high waisted jeans (I have always had bigger thighs and butt than most average young adults/adults so i mainly shopped for womens pants majority of my life). Selling crop tops to teens isn't a big deal if you teach them how to wear it appropriately. But crop tops for under 13-14 is uncalled for in every sense. As someone who's very into fashion, it's honestly a fashion crime to put a child in such adult clothing in an adult fashion, as it gives them no chance to actually learn what their fashion sense is and what they like and feel comfortable in. As a 00s kid, seeing Disney red carpet fashion from then *now* got me thinking that maybe Disney was trying to set good examples through child celebrities as much as they could even though the Britney Spears affect became innevitable for most stars around that time.

      A very level-headed and respectful way of thinking. I like you. I sexualized MYSELF as a child. My mom tried to keep me away from revealing clothes and shield me from the hungry stares of older men but I was determined to do things my way. I wore revealing clothes behind her back, I allowed attention I got from boys and men. And sometimes women. I'm bisexual. I did crazy stuff in high school and even now I'm an elderly man magnet. Do I regret it? No. Sure it led me to some bad situations but still, I could never regret it all because it was my choice. No one forced me to do anything. Despite my mom's rules and my family's outlook on life, I took control of my life and did something I wanted to do. I felt...free. I still do now. I do like a man being in control but only a good man. Because it took me some time to realize it but even though good men are a rarity, they DO exist. I'm engaged to be married to the best man I've ever known. He likes to lead but he also lets me lead when he knows the time is right. Because in some ways we both have our struggles in life and need guidance and support from the other. He's gentle and nurturing, I feel safe with him.

      Just a fair warning for ya, as someone who was fully developed by the age of 12 and apparently “dressed like a Mormon” according to a friend, I was overly sexualized by both guys in my class, men at church, and super creepy men online. My sister, who didn’t develop until she was 16, experienced none of this, so I’m of the belief that if your body looks older than your age, you’re more of a target. I’ve been in a few hairy situations, and I only got out thanks to a strangely accurate gut (as I was very naïve). So trust your gut, speak up for yourself (guys at school usually backed off when I called them out on their behavior), and stay safe. My parents also s**t shamed me for wearing clothes THEY bought me, so I couldn’t rely on them. But lots of teachers and older kids, particularly older girls protected me, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.
