Love your reactions, your discussions, your take on things. You make good points. As a Christian I think Tim Minchin is a genius and he has a point that should push our buttons. Some people use things to promote God in all the wrong ways. Try telling a 3 year old child who has been sold into sex slavery that God saved your cataracts but didn't save her! I think that God inspires us to take action and works through people to do GOOD so if you are inspired by God's work in your life - go share your privilege with someone who has nothing and then YOU will be the work of God answering the other person's prayers by using the resources you received to help them. I am a Christian but still find Tim hilariously clever. I believe it's a fragile faith is bothered by this. My faiths pretty solid so I just find it clever word play. I never believed God was in service to serve our wishes. As a person who has suffered a great deal my belief in God helped me cope. His rant about the pope is even more cutting.

Tim as a red head will have been bullied. Its not an uncommon reason. Also he is Not joking about predjudice or making light of it, he is pointing out everything you just said in the only way he has any right to as a white person. If you know Tim Minchins comedy, his audience knows from the outset Tim is not making fun of ANYBODY or their reality. He is illuminating for the oblivious by framing it in a different context. In order to create that initial tension in an audience of largely intelligent educated people ...he had to skirt right near the edge of what we all find socially uncomfortable. Tim's joke ONLY works on an audience who finds predjudice distasteful. We were all meant to be uncomfortable. Then have that sense of relief, that release of tension that made it all the funnier. Tim's audience are not stupid. So please take that into account. British and Aussie comedy between the best of friends is not soft. It's pretty much no holds barred. Brits particularly are polite to strangers and brutal to friends and family. If we are in the pub and we start making fun of you. It generally means you have been accepted into the group and should reply in good humoured kind. Its called banter and the closest thing you might find to it is between American sports fans. Except it can be alot more personal. An extreme example of this is a friend of mine was cross with a sibling for trying to comit an unfortunate act. Luckily the rope broke. So on his Christmas card they wrote... glad to see you are still with us. See you at Christmas we can have a swinging time with sketch of a stick figure dangling from a noose. The whole family thought it was funny. Including the recipient. In fact it broke the awkwardness. So therfore as a comedian for a British or Aussie audience you cannot be too considerate of fragile feelings. You just won't be funny. But saying that ...Tim is not a mean comedian. He is in that long tradition of our comedians who are observers of life. Whose love of peoples little oddities are the basis of comedy. Maybe you should listen to STORM. Now if you want to see how bad Brits can get watch hilarious British football chants. Get ready for a true culture shock. I don't think you are ready for it. Warning it's 18+ should be out of the hearing of children.

The point of this is to show prejudice from all angles and you proved this point by getting so het up and judging him on what you thought he was saying based on your OWN experience while he talks about his. I think yours is the only reaction I’ve watched where you were so set on being offended that you couldn’t see what everyone else seems to (regardless of race). You seemed to not an able to let go of the fact even after it was clear he was talking about ginger people. The reaction when he talked about how hard it is for ginger people shows that you only think of your own peoples history. Look into the horrors that actually happened to ginger people historically. That is aside from the fact that even now it’s widely acceptable to mock ginger people in the way it wouldn’t ever be for other groups of people.

They didn’t put out any new music for years because of legal issues with rights to their own music. Pretty cool you got that from this song. I’m not sure if it’s about that or not but that did happen
