Double depression infested alcoholic loser here. I discovered Tool very recently. Pink Floyd are still my GOAT but Tool are very close. The live version of Sober is the best rock vocal rendition I've ever seen
@@balakrishnanlakshmanan9852 You are just a person struggling to just BE in this world, you must find compassion for yourself and no hatred. My beloved only son died from alcoholism 7 years ago at the age of 31 and I miss him so every day. Those of us who love him so deeply tried with all we had to show him he was worthy and of value not for any accomplishments or achievements but just because he was a person, an ensouled being here on a journey as we all are. He AND you are as deserving of love and mercy and peace as any other human; I only wish the tortured thoughts in my son's head could have left him and enabled him to see how priceless he was, what a treasure. I see you, and I wish you peace here in this troubled world because your true soul is immaculate.
It's one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. Obviously Freedie will probably always be undefeated but, I was I think that performance from Maynard falls in 2nd
"I will find the center in you, I will chew it up and leave. Trust me, trust me, trust me...." The best take I've heard on that part is that it is the substance itself speaking. It destroys you from the inside out, and all the while you believe that you cannot survive without it. You trust it instead of those trying desperately to help you. As you say, so many ways to interpret, find meaning. Great reaction, gentlemen. Looking forward to more.
I interpret it as that secondarily. Primarily, I hear it speaking to the type of person a user becomes; first of substances, then of people. First, one might use it to seperate themselves or hide from the world in some sense, but its desctruction can't be contained, and try as you might its effects on more than one innocent person will out, be they yourself or anyone around you. The death of even one innocent person's potential is bad enough, but what their loved ones go through makes addiction a problem on another level.
I like how when Maynard sings : "Why can't we not be sober" as a double negative its true to the lack of perspective and self doubt one has when in the midst of addiction or being lost in life generally. Deep down a person knows they CAN be sober or have mental clarity but they convince themselves otherwise.
Tremendous take to recognize that it is not necessarily about substance abuse only but rather it includes ALL of the patterns and behaviors that we engage in that undermine us and disservice us. In an automatic way we can coast on these ideas or subconscious thoughts and be none the wiser but otherwise recognize that life just isn't right. I have many self sabotaging behaviors of my own and this song was a mirror in my own face, like, damn I am my own serpent. I wish i could start again and wipe the patterns and the knowledge of the patterns (and their outcomes that i seem to desire so much) away. I subbed and you guys not only get the ideas but are very entertaining to watch. You're understanding and experimece of the music complexity is also greatly appreciated. I love that you guys catch the odd time measures and the switches of measures. Dope stuff y'all.
Love Your reactions. I a massive Tool fan and it is awesome to see so many people finding it from all walks of life now, and we all have the same reaction to it: Awe struck. I saw them in Inglewood. The staff were stunned, just watching the show. They thought it was going to be another metal band with miscreant fans.... I think the local staff were more taken by it than the paying fans. Thank you Gentlemen.
This was the first Tool song i ever heard back in the 90's, it was on MTV alot back then, probably alot of people's first Tool song as well. The groove is definetly more accessible than alot of their other stuff which made it more radio/TV friendly but the sauce is all there. Maynard's voice is what does it for me the most. He's so clean yet so powerful, so much fire, like stainless steel
It’s always brings me joy when people find out about these guys. Justin, Maynard, Adam and without a doubt Danny (The Octopus) Carey, put out a quality of music that sometimes feels unrivaled. This is my third Tool reaction I saw from you guys and I Love the way you guys have fully embraced this crew. Anyway I could go ahead and name songs from the first to their latest album but I would rather say PLEASE go see them live and throw down the extra loot to get as close as you can. You will be taken on a musical and spiritual journey that will stay with you always. …..and just in case I didn’t mention it before…Danny Carey!!!
I was 19 when this song came out, I loved it…but I wasn’t ready for tool yet. I rediscovered them in 2019. At age 45, I was finally I was ready for tool.
“I um…love TOOL…I’m sorry…it happened”. Hahahhaha. Best quote. Your hooked! Welcome to TOOL army!! MJK, Danny, Adam and Justin are all true masters of their crafts. My soul has been locked with theirs since 1994 when I first discovered “Sober”. Much love. Great reaction video guys.

The Vic Firth video featuring Tool drummer Danny Carey playing Pneuma is a spectacular masterpiece as it gives you a look at what it’s like playing such complex music.
I'm loving y'all's reactions to TOOL. For my two cents you can't go wrong with the songs "The Grudge", "Invincible, and "Right in Two". All three are among my favorite songs by TOOL, and each have a different feel. Maynard, TOOL's singer, also sings for the bands Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. The song "The Remedy" by Puscifer is also great.
This track put Tool on the map. Came out right around the time I graduated HS and I was hooked from the get! No other band compares to Tool, they are just so unique and talented! If you haven’t done Aenema or Stinkfist yet, those two are must listens!
If you're digging tool, you should check out one of Maynards other bands, A Perfect Circle. I'd suggest starting with the song "Judith". I think you'll definitely like it.
Love your TOOL reaction videos. Glad to see that they have captured some new fans. You've got to hear 46 & 2 or the cover song from O'Keefe music school showing their musical appreciation of this song it is crazy good.

Who do you talk to that's bigger than your mind? Dre: They broke it down to draw you in...to the story a little bit more. ... and just making it easy for you to follow along with it and catch on to the message and make it become whatever you need it to become. You feel it, no matter how your interpretation goes. You guys have amazing insight. Like I said, I've been a Tool fan for 30 years now, but I love listening to you because you capture the same vibe but in a totally different but totally right on kind of way. Love it. Keep it up! ❤

Hi from the Netherlands! I just discovered your channel, binged your Tool reactions, and immediately subscribed. It's really satisfying to hear about it from a technical perspective. I'd love to hear your reactions to The Grudge! A common theory is that it's about how a grudge keeps circling back in different ways and hurting you until you can finally let it go, which is portrayed by this really epic scream. Really curious to hear what you think
I really appreciate that you guys know music and aren't simply commenting on social media aspects of music. I like this band because they have the musicality of Beethoven and the lyrics of a Socrates.
ive been watching your tool reactions and i just want to say that you guys get it! watching you listen for the first time reminds of 1993 and picking up the undertow cd. enjoy
It’s a joy to see people expand themselves and be open to new things. Thank you for sharing your experience of finding Tool, one of my favorite bands of all time! Seeing them live is next level stimulation (stage, music, visuals, lyrics….insane experience) and as an earlier commenter noted, Maynard’s stage performance, particularly earlier tool (1990’s) was like a metaphor for the music (serpentine-like gyrations, or leaning way back like on a precipice while singing) just awesome! Sober-my interpretation is he is calling out God for a lack of presence, God is only the historical narrative (won’t you whistle something BUT the past and time, no substance, and he is asking why can’t “we” be sober and move on from the addiction of religion. My take. 🤷♂️ Thank you again! 👍😃
Finally someone that's doing a reaction that can look at all sides. Ty ty ty. I have seen q few of your reviews but i just officially subscribed. I enjoy you both thanks.

I really enjoy your analysis of the musical and lyrical content. I loved the analogy of the pre chorus and chorus to a prayer. Especially in the 2nd chorus you can hear the emotion in the “Why”, it’s almost as if he’s begging for an answer. I hope your channel continues to grow. Everybody can interpret the lyrics for themselves, which is part of the beauty of music. I myself, feel the 2nd verse can be seen as words coming from the addict themself, or from the personified point of view of the drug itself.
Guys I’m lovin your Tool reactions! There’s a Rage Against The Machine song called Know Your Enemy featuring Maynard from Tool. Give it a go. It’s fire! 🔥
I remember being introduced to Tool in the 90's and was instantly hooked. Course I was smoked out, with headphones on, blastin in Miami in my appt thinkin my homies ain't ever gonna get this and that's a damn shame. What a difference a couple of decades make. But just so we're clear the 90's produced the best music in all genres from rap/hip hop, alternative, rock and you name it. Love my generation! The creativity, the innovativness, the originality. They all bled thru their music. That's why there will never be another Tool, or another Tupac, or another Kurt Cobaine, or Pearl Jam, or Wu Tang and I could go on and on.
@ de & Dre you guys are awesome. Great insight and knowledge. Started with one review and have been watching for over an hour. Def sub. Thank you guys for the great content.
Love it. I am Zepplin fan and love their remake of NO quarter. Powerful lyrics in this one too. Perfect Cirle Judith is amazin with sexiest bass guitar move I have ever seen by a woman. Wonder if you will catch it and see it. Maynard kills it lyrically in this side project of all stars.
This is Tool at some of their most stripped down and back-to-basics. Love seeing your stuff. I have a childhood friend who got me into Tool in like 6th grade (I want to say like 1997 or 98). He says that their shows are an absolute experience. Haven’t gone… yet. That said, if you like Tool for their lyrics, I would recommend The Mountain Goats. No Children is their most iconic song. The Moral Orel version is great. Cry for Judas is an incredibly human song. This Year is an anthem to teenage angst in a broken home. Dance Music is the most relatable “I grew up in a messed up house” track I’ve ever heard. Plus, the Mountain Goats are great live. I openly wept in public. And yes, Tool is excellent crying music. I love seeing y’all discover new shit. Peace ❤️
You have reacted to a few Tool songs now and I'm stoked that you are becoming fans of the band. Now, that you have listened to their more popular radio friendly songs. I suggest that you listen to the album Undertow in it's entirety and Enema. To really hear their greater works.
Also funny... When you first started your tool journey you struggled to hear the lyrics (the Pot), now the lyrics and music have become inseparable for you. As it should be.
The live 1993 version has Maynard using his voice and his whole body to illustrate the lyrics in such a powerful way, it's well worth a watch.
that performance is peak Maynard. The desperation in his movements and posture is haunting. I love it.

I saw it on mtv for free
I almost did a thumbs down for making me feel so old lol
I was in my mid twenties lol. WTF
best penny ever spent
I stole it from my sister.
If you want an experience watch the live version of this. Maynard is BRILLIANT
Great seeing people experience the emotional and spiritual journey that Tool can take you on. My favorite from this album is Bottom.
Forty six and 2 next for sure!

I was lucky enough to see tool play this in 1993. 🎉
Fellow Jags fan. My man! Love your blog
The happiness in your faces, just gold
Its the guitars squeeling and screeching their heart out in this one that gets me every time
I really enjoy your analysis of the musical and lyrical content. I myself, feel the 2nd verse can be seen as words coming from the addict themself, or from the personified point of view of the drug itself.
welcome to the army - there is no turning back. Love the reactions!
I've seen them live 3 times. They are simply awesome. 💙
Me too. 🙋💯🔥👍😍
I've loved this song for 30 years and still, every time I hear it, it's cathartic.
Fantastic breakdown!!!
Peace ❤️
Great review & reaction you two!..💯👍👍
Greatly appreciated!!!
This was the first Tool song I'd ever heard as a teenager. It does my heart good to see these young men enjoying this 30 years later.
It actually said why can't we not be sober...
Maynard is the greatest song writer and super intelligent.
You have reacted to a few Tool songs now and I'm stoked that you are becoming fans of the band. Now, that you have listened to their more popular radio friendly songs. I suggest that you listen to the album Undertow in it's entirety and Enema. To really hear their greater works.
Man, the Grudge!!!!! Best song, best lyrics
Also funny... When you first started your tool journey you struggled to hear the lyrics (the Pot), now the lyrics and music have become inseparable for you. As it should be.
