That's what Paul Simon told David from Disturbed he said he loved his version of his song so much that he passes the baton over to him , he owns it now, what an honor
Honestly, the original was a warning to us all. I am almost 60. This version made me cry as I realize that we didnt heed it. Disturbed brings an anger that we should all feel.
What was the original warning? I feel like this version video is about losing music to beat machines and crap and losing school music programs. Like at the end there's am ark with all the instruments.
@@Kristine49erfan82 fair, my friend. I wasn’t speaking to the video, but the song itself. The original version warned of the social isolation and the inability to communicate. The “neon god they made” references the innovation of the television. I would argue that social media would be today’s version of that. People get lost online and we fail to communicate directly with each other.
Their sound is usually much harder, more screamy/growly and aggressive; but David is a trained cantor with a beautiful vocal range and he made gorgeous art with this cover.
His voice range is actually very diverse despite the genre he general does, he could do way more than that sound. I think a lot of metal singers can they just chose to have a style for certain songs. Singing raspy and on tone like he does take talent even with his usual singing. You could tell his voice is very strong.
David was classically trained as a Cantor. He comes from generations of them. To this day he has no tattoos in deference to his respect for his grandfather and his heritage. He even removes his piercings. Not only is he a master of his vocal instrument but is an honorable man. Mad respect to him. I hear his band mates are good men as well... Also, Simon, the original songwriter said it was as much David's now as his. Many say that Simon's was a warning, where David's was angry that no one listened.
Well said. Simon and Garfunkel was the warning and future prediction. Disturbed laid it down to what the world has become. It's not just a song it is life as we know it. Paul Simon said himself this song now belongs to Disturbed.
I had to look up what that meant. Now the suggestion I got from the video makes sense!! Xx I could tell it was about speaking to people and bringing them together through music. Though I saw it more as everyone, despite background, could come together theough music, a way of sharing experience without words even. ( think thats just my dream of an ideal world of course) But yes, I love his voice, the video and the message.

David asked his band to do this cover. They finally agreed when David said he would never ask them to another cover. Probably their biggest hit ever. The song is from Simon and Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel recorded this in 1964 and the song is about the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally, but especially emotionally. So, what you see are people not being able to love each other. Sadly, I believe this was foreshadowing current events, and is most relevant to the times we are living today. And I have to agree "Disturbed" made this song his own and with his delivery being sung so "threateningly" it's as if he is screaming trying to wake people up to this fact.
This is like a religious experience - David's touched to his core by this song and you feel it coming out of his pores. You have to let it wash over you and absorb it. I never tire and always tear up each time.
Hurt, Johnny Cash. I'm not saying that this song isn't close or maybe even, but you cannot watch that video, filmed shortly before Johnny Cash's death, and not think it is a tragic reflection of his soul. Trent Reznor has said it is Cash's song now.
I love how with each verse his intensity grows. From a gentle tone to a pure growl by the final verse. So subtle, so very well defined and controlled. This is my favourite version of this song, a vocal masterpiece.
If you don't feel this song, you are not human. This song is one of those that you just end the night on. You sit, and you reflect. I love this song. Good choice.

Check out that song & you’ll see why. 😂 Y’all have an awesome day: loved the reaction.
You should check out the original, as well as Disturbed's original works, for contrast. Also, Disturbed teamed up with Anne Wilson (absolute queen of a vocalist for Heart) on a track recently called Don't Tell Me. Very Very Worthwhile collaboration to check out!
Excellent reaction my friends. I like how enthusiastic you guys are when experiencing good music. Rock on and peace out.
✌🏻😎👍🏻
He was classically trained and extremely talented even when he sing heavy
Although atypical from their usual sound it still shows the emotion that they put into everything. Definitely worth going through their catalog.🤘🔥🤘
Disturbed's version is so different for Simon & Garfunkel's. Disturbed sends goosebumps.
Simon and Garfunkel wrote and performed in 1965 . I was a child when it first came out and it’s been covered by hundreds of people over the years but this is one of the best .
This song, in this version, is an absolute emotional thunderclap.
Definitely listen to the live version of this song on the Conan O'Brian show.
He is my fav and I LOVE HIS CAPES HE WEARS THEM WELL!! Can’t wait to see him here in ATLANTA GA2023”
I love at the near end of the song, how both of the guys did not move, just watching Disturbed sing,
My fave song by my fave band! David is classically trained. He can hit any note! Mostly Disturbed is a heavy metal band. But they do a few songs along these lines. Saw them in concert a few months ago. If anyone is wondering, their newly released album is the bomb!!!
Even one of the original artist (Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel) after hearing David's version stated that the song belongs to him now.
