If you’re a Renaissance fair lover you must listen to their version of Scarborough Fair (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme). Also classics are The Boxer and Mrs.Robinson.
Met Art Garfunkel in 1965 when I was around 10. Took guitar lessons with a my friend Lou Pearlman. His parents invited me over dinner & told me to bring my guitar. When I arrived Lou introduced me to his cousin Art. I had NO IDEA who he was. I believe they had recently released their first album. We played some guitar & he signed an autograph for me that I still have. Lou went on to form the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
"This just took me to the Renaissance festival." Funny you should mention that. They have their own version of Scarborough Fair, and it is beautiful. Another musical trip is their song A Hazy Shade of Winter, and then the cover version by The Bangles.
This is the original acoustic version that didn't go anywhere, so producers added a bass, drums and electric 12 string guitar to it and it went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. the original of this song played in the opening credit sequence to the 1967 film "the graduate." which also used their "mrs. robinson" as a main theme. my other simon and garfunkle favorites are "scarborough fair" and "cecilia." garfunkle appeared in a couple of great films co-starring with Jack Nicholson in "carnal knowledge" (1971) and the classic "carch-22" (1970) with its great ensemble cast.

Paul Simon is one of the greatest American songwriters. You can't study American music and not study Paul Simon. He and Art Garfunkle made a formidable folk duo in the '60s and '70s. Garfunkle sings the high harmonies, Simon plays guitar, writes the songs, and sings the lower harmony. Yes, their version of The Sound of Silence is much faster than Disturbed's cover, but they were going for different feels. A common description of the difference between the 2 versions is that the original is a warning, and Disturbed's cover represents anger that the warning wasn't heeded.
There is a Simon and Garfunkel version with drums as well. Also you’re enjoying their two voices together is called a harmony, vocal harmony. You harmonize voices as well as instruments. Slow to fast, loud and soft are dynamics or Ebb and flow
Paul Simon wrote it, does harmony, and Art Garfunkel is the lead. Paul is shorter one, Art had the curly hair. Paul Simon is an incredible song writer. What you need to understand, is this was released in 1964; the 60's were primarily the 'pop era' for music. There are many older songs, that decades later were revamped. One of Australia's great singer-songwriters, Kasey Chambers reworked Eminem's rap song Lose Yourself; in Kasey's situation, she actually slowed the song down to a country/folk rock ballad. Another great Australian artist, John Farnham took The Beatles classic song Help; and turned a pop song from 1965, turning it into a rock ballad with the backing of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. I would recommend you react to these artists, you won't be disappointed.

Mia, Simon and Garfunkel were the original artists of this masterpiece who wrote and recorded it in 1964. This is just one of very many classics they created during their careers. If you want to see them actually perform it. You should watch the live performance from Madison square garden during the rock and roll all the fame 25th anniversary. Or from the free concert in Central Park in 1981. Both are just amazing.
Pure acoustic. This is the most original recording. It was released on S&G's album "Wednesday Morning, 3AM." Later, around 1965, Columbia Records added "Rock" instruments to this recording and re-released it, without S&G's permission. Still later, S&G recorded a new pure acoustic version, for the movie "The Graduate." That's almost like this version, but the harmonies are slightly different. And then, of course, there are vids of several of their live performances of the song. All versions are pretty much the same speed. That's how they did it.
I liked this version so much more than the cover by Disturbed. I didn't think Disturbs vocals really fit well with it as much as Simon and Garfunkels did.
Simon and Garfunkel warned us of what would happen if we did not listen to each other. Disturbed shows us what happened because we did not listen. By the way, Simon and Garfunkel actually congratulated Disturbed on their version.
I like both versions of the song, having grown up listening to Simon & Garfunkle when I heard Disturbed version I really liked the power they put into it. So don't stop with this song by S & G, they have many great songs out there to hear.
I know I've seen comments about Disturbed's version, but you have to thank them for opening her ears to Simon and Garfunkle. That, in itself, is a positive.
Paul Simon wrote this and many other timeless songs. Listen to Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer. Both are very popular. He was as much a poet as a song wrier.
Wonderful reaction! This one is my favorite but you definitely need to check out "Penteonix" (they are a acapella band). version of this song, it's definitely worth listening to their version!! Again loved the reaction and all your reactions!! Have a great night! 😊
Art Garfunkel was hitting the higher notes; Paul Simon (the composer of the song) was the lower, softer voice. And I would give Paul Simon credit for knowing how to sing the song he wrote...
“This group or this band or whatever they are”??? Show respect to the legendary Simon and Garfunkel. As great as Disturb’s version is they wouldn’t have anything to sing if S & G didn’t write that fabulous song!
As you can see from the comments, Paul Simon wrote this song way back in the 60's, they didn't make music videos back then ( at least not very often ). There's another version of this with drums, which I think is better. On a side note, a little bit of trivia that only Rush fans would know, drummer Neil Peart who writes the lyrics, did a play on the last verse of this song in their song The spirit of radio, in which he wrote : for the words of the profits ( prophets ) are written on the studio wall, concert hall, and echoes with the sounds of salesmen !
If you like how Simon & Garfunkle harmonize their voice, then you have to listen to The Beach Boys. Listen to God Only Knows, Wouldn't Be Nice, Good Vibrations, and Little Deuce Coupe...They are THE BEST at harmonizing their voices.
You're definitely in for a treat going down that path. They so helped to define my generation. Many a morning did I, as a youngster, wake up to their wonderful vibes. If you love their harmony, consider giving "The Association" a listen. You won't be disappointed in them either. Great reaction, BTW!

If you want to see them actually perform it. You should watch the live performance from Madison square garden during the rock and roll all the fame 25th anniversary. Or from the free concert in Central Park in 1981. Both are just amazing.
You can't go wrong by listening to anything done by Simon and Garfunkel. This was written by Paul Simon.
Their album 'Wednesday morning 3am' is super good 👌
Wonderful reaction!
So who can honestly admit they are not here for the reaction? I do.
“This group or this band or whatever they are”??? Show respect to the legendary Simon and Garfunkel. As great as Disturb’s version is they wouldn’t have anything to sing if S & G didn’t write that fabulous song!
THIS is the original. They wrote and first performed the song. THIS beats anything rated with a chef's kiss.
A comedian named Tim Hawkins did a parody of the Disturbed version of this song called "The Sounds of Starbucks."
A big hit for Simon and Garfunkel was Bridge Over Troubled Waters
If you like how Simon & Garfunkle harmonize their voice, then you have to listen to The Beach Boys. Listen to God Only Knows, Wouldn't Be Nice, Good Vibrations, and Little Deuce Coupe...They are THE BEST at harmonizing their voices.
Watch them live at the concert in Central Park… round 1980.
beautiful song,,, nice reaction, thank you.....
You're definitely in for a treat going down that path. They so helped to define my generation. Many a morning did I, as a youngster, wake up to their wonderful vibes. If you love their harmony, consider giving "The Association" a listen. You won't be disappointed in them either. Great reaction, BTW!
There were two things I really luved about this review!! 🥰
