ABBA is one of the most iconic pop groups in music history, known for their catchy melodies, harmonies, and distinctive style. The group, formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972, consists of four members: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad. The name ABBA is derived from the first letters of their first names. They gained international fame after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the song “Waterloo.” ABBA’s music blends pop, disco, and folk elements, often characterized by layered vocals and polished production. They were active from 1972 to 1982, but their music has enjoyed enduring popularity, inspiring musicals like Mamma Mia! and being covered by numerous artists. In 2021, ABBA released a comeback album, Voyage, marking their first studio album in 40 years. Biggest Hits Some of ABBA’s most famous songs include: 1. Dancing Queen (1976) - A disco anthem and arguably their most iconic hit. 2. Mamma Mia (1975) - Known for its infectious chorus. 3. Waterloo (1974) - Their Eurovision-winning song that launched them to fame. 4. Take a Chance on Me (1977) - A bright and rhythmic pop track. 5. The Winner Takes It All (1980) - A poignant ballad about heartbreak. 6. Fernando (1976) - A storytelling ballad with a folk influence. 7. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (1979) - A disco hit that has been heavily sampled. 8. Chiquitita (1979) - A tender, melodic ballad. 9. Super Trouper (1980) - A reflective, theatrical track. 10. SOS (1975) - A blend of melancholy and upbeat pop brilliance. Legacy ABBA has sold over 400 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Their music continues to resonate with fans of all generations, thanks to its timeless appeal and universal themes of love, joy, and heartbreak.
The 70's were a trip, I was too young to experience it. Disco era is legendary, I wish I could have been an adult back then lol. Love the type of music you react to, it's so diverse. 😊
In the early morning hours on a bicycle, the fresh country air on my face between tulips and windmills In Holland and the little radio was playing ABBA songs, a nice memory of last year's holiday. 🌺
ABBA were so popular in the 1970's that they were considered to be Sweden's #1 export. They were offered 1 Billion dollar$ to reunite and tour again in the year 2000, which they turned down. They were one of my guilty pleasures.
Abba ("ah bah") emerged from Sweden in the 70's, the pop group comprised of 2 couples - 2 female singers w/ 2 male songwriters... They became a phenomenon globally and their records sold millions of copies long after Abba disbanded in the early 80's. Bjorn and Benny were the men who became friends in Sweden's music scene and started collaborating on new music, opting to switch to English lyrics to have a wider appeal... Bjorn met a blonde singer Agnetha and they married; at the same time, Benny met a brunette singer Anni-Frid (Frida) and got engaged... They decided to record songs w/ the ladies singing in harmony (Bjorn also sang some lead vocals) but were unsure of a name. The decided to name the group Abba, combining the first letters of their names - Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid... and in 1974, they won a TV contest called Eurovision w/ their song 'Waterloo' (after releasing 2 albums in Sweden)... Abba was signed internationally soon after. Abba released their international debut album 'Abba' in 1975 and it became an instant hit w/ the pop singles - 'Mama Mia'... 'S.O.S.'... 2nd album 'Arrival' in 1976 made Abba superstars as the single 'Dancing queen' became a hit in America... along w/ the songs - 'Knowing me, knowing you'... "That's me"... Abba diversified their songs w/ different styles of popular music, including theater. Touring became a priority and it was tough on Abba, given Agnetha and Bjorn had a child together... In 1977, Abba released a movie ('Abba - the movie') combining the groups backstage and onstage footage w/ a fictional reporter seeking an interview w/ Abba... It was accompanied by the record 'Abba - the album'... which scored hits like - 'Take a chance on me'... 'Eagle' ... 'Thank you for the music'... However, the crush of fame brought about Abba's personal turmoil and pressure to write and record took a toll... Benny and Frida married in 1978 but Bjorn and Agnetha split up that year and eventually divorced... Benny and Frida would split up by 1980. Abba released the album 'Voulez-vous' in 1979 ('voo lay voo') and it became a hit w/ the singles - 'Chiquitita' ... 'Does your mother know' ... 'Voulez-vous'... as well as the non-album single - 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' ... Abba toured the world for the last time. With the couples' relationships strained, they still worked together to complete the album 'Super Trouper' in 1980 and without a tour, it showed a decline in sales, despite hits like - 'The winner takes it all' ... 'Super Trouper' ... 'Happy new year'... Bjorn remarked that their later songs were some of the best because of the sadness from their breakups. Abba released 'The Visitors' in 1981 and it would be their last record before the group parted ways in 1983... It had the singles - 'One of us' ... 'Head over heels' ... 'When all is said and done'... Abba's final singles were released by '83. Bjorn and Benny worked behind the scenes making music... but both Agnetha and Frida walked away from the music business after brief solo careers... Agnetha retreated to Sweden and stayed isolated for decades... Abba's music began selling again in the 90's w/ greatest hits releases like 'Abba Gold'... and their catalog was reissued. In 2021, Abba announced that the group had reunited in the studio & recorded a new (and likely final) album 'Voyage' and promoted it w/ a virtual experience in a venue in London.
Came to the attention of the world in the 1974 Eurovision song contest (held in the UK that year)- winning with the track Waterloo, so many other great tracks: S.O.S., Knowing Me Knowing You, Chiquitita, Thank You for the Music, Name of the Game, Take a Chance on Me, Winner Takes it All.
Hi Mia, glad you got to enjoy this song! I remember this song playing at the RollerRinks in the 90s. It has a great rhythm like you are dancing to. They are a fantastic band, I encourage you to check out some of their other songs, The Winner Takes All, Fernando, & Mama Mia.
ABBA is not only the greatest musical act ever to come from Sweden, but one of the best male/female groups of all time. There are so many great songs. And their songs always lift the spirits and elevate one's mood. Dancing Queen is their signature tune. But there are so many others. I will list only a few of them. Waterloo, Mamma Mia, Take a Chance on Me, Money, Money, Money, The Winner Takes It All, SOS, I Have a Dream.
I never heard of this band until late either. I grew up on 70's Soul and older so this pop stuff is still sort of new to me. Ha. "Gimme Gimme" is a dancing banger and also inspired Madonna "Hung Up"which covers 2 birds with one stone. ❤❤
Mia,I think you are a Dancing Queen too😁❤....Abba was one of my first fav Bands and as a young boy I was so in love with Agnetha🤣....you should check more Abba they have so many Hits👍
Who didn't?? :) I remember hearing them reunited and couldn't believe it..they swore to never do that. I was so happy to hear new stuff from them. Loved them since I was a child in the 70s.
Hey Mia. The term you are searching for is "belting". Belting is a singing technique that involves using the chest voice to produce a powerful, resonant sound. It's often described as a "high chest voice" or "mixed voice", but it's actually a descriptive term for a specific way of using the vocal registers. Belting is a contemporary technique that's used in many genres, including pop, rock, jazz, and folk. It's most commonly associated with musical theater, where Broadway singers project their voices to fill large venues. Belting is different from classical singing techniques, which can also produce a powerful sound. Belting is derived from speech, and it can be heard well even when it's not amplified.
Great reaction! They pronounce their name “AHH-buh”. Their names are from the first initials of each of their names- Ani, Benny, Bjorn, and Agnetha. They were two couples that eventually married. Another great song of theirs to react to is Take a Chance on Me.
Great Choice ......you have to admit every time you hear this song it always makes you smile.... I know everytime I hear this song it makes me smile .........My favorite song is "Crazy Game of Poker" The Band is "OAR"
This is disco, and dancing was the entire point. The genre was immensely popular in the 70s, but by the end of the decade and transition into the 80s backlash set in HARD with events like the infamous Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Racism, homophobia, the onset of the Reagan years, and the rise of the Religious Right in the United States have all been cited as factors in its decline.
This was one of my older sister's favorite band back in the 70's. I like some of there songs too. I suggest you react to " Take A Chance Of Me," and "Voulez-Vous."
You are 100% correct Mia. You belong in the 70’s or 80’s . I am 49. People talked in person not on text. You had to actually get know one another. Danced. Wasn’t all just sex . Fall in love. It’s about the SOUL! True soul. You have a beautiful soul. Don’t ever lose that. Don’t be what they expect Mia please. You don’t have to show the grossest of you. You are smart too. You could teach Microsoft programs. Take care. Thanks for another great reaction
Abba are great and there recent reunion after 4 decades apart is incredible you coyld see there digital avatar concert in london that is still being performed and icludes classic abba like this as well as there brand new recordings like don't shut me down and i still have faith in you
I think the main reason why most people are not on the dancefloor is because they are addicted to their stupid phones 🙂 but this is the perfect birthday song for women!
ABBA has many great songs. They were a big part of the disco era. Some of their best songs are “Mama Mia, S.O.S., Take a Chance, Waterloo, Gimme Gimme Gimme, and Knowing Me Knowing You.” You should also check out some Earth, Wind, and Fire. Some KC and the Sunshine Band and some Kool and the Gang if you enjoyed this group.
Take a bite Rock and pop and tell you what beautiful said something the age I am I'll be 63 January 20th there was it a straight man back of the seventies that didn't have a crush on those too they not only are cute breathtakingly but they're singing voices are adorable too with the metal head I still had Abba's greatest hits on vinyl later on CD and cassette
I remember them playing this song at the roller skating rink when I was a little kid in the 70s. My parents would take the family about once every week or two. Everyone just having a great time with the black lights and disco balls making everything look glowing.
Hi Mia great reaction..how can you not like ABBA ..not that you dont ..ABBA pronounced ( Ah - Bah) is a great band..absolutely love them..they have great melodies..and the girls have some of the best harmonies ever..so many hits..your gonna love em.. and people were on roller skates..lol..and the guitarist had the Justin Bieber hair before Bieber..🤣😂..ok enjoy..take care..🙏
Most famous group from Sweden 🇸🇪. Signature song. Dance pop. 50 years 🎂. Other famous Nordic musicians: Sweden 🇸🇪. Roxette, Robyn, Ace of Base, the Cardigans, Max Martin (as somgwriter). Norway 🇳🇴 a-ha, Stage Dolls. Denmark 🇩🇰. Mike Tramp from White Lion, Lars Ulrich from Metallica. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Frida and Phil Collins perform Something's Going On 2 The Cardigans perform My Favourite Game 3 Roxette performs The Look 4 Whote Lion performs Wait ✋ 5 a-ha performs Take On Me. 6 Robyn sings Show Me Love 7 Ace of Base performs All That She Wants.
I grew up in one of the best era of music the 1980's. There are so many great songs for you to react to and I am sure your fans would love to see some more classic from you.
Singer of Metallica, James Hetfield, has gone on record saying that he loves to sing with his family in the car when driving from place to place. That as a family they love listening to and singing along to ABBA, especially Dancing Queen♥️
Michael Amott of Arch Enemy turned me onto Bossa Nova musicians like Stan Getz from a post he made once. I think he actually said once he doesn't listen to a lot of metal in his downtime. Understandable.
Hi Mia, this is disco, I DJ on most weekends and this song is still HUGE! If we could both be transported to back then I'd ask you to dance and YOU would be "that girl" that everyone looked at! Have a good day!
For the disco era ABBA was very good. Miss Mia may I request Need Your Love by Cheap Trick from the the Live at Budokan album. Also so very good. Cheap Trick was formed in 1973. My older sister brought home their album In Color. Then she brought home Dream Police. There is so much content but I will gladly settle for a reaction to Need Your Love.
Great Choice Mia! They are one of the greatest groups of the late 70s and the best out of Sweden. Their Breakout hit was "Waterloo" in 1974. I have three recommendations right away from the same album of this song "Arrival" from 1976. I recommend "Knowing me, Knowing You," a beautiful but sad song. Next, I recommend a beautiful ballad "My Love, My Life". Finally, a peppy and also beautiful and catchy song, "Dum Dum Diddle". "Arrival" is ABBA's great album. Every song is fantastic, much like Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell' a year later. Great reaction Mia!
This isn’t normally my jam, but as far as bright, upbeat pop songs, it’s hard to top. The melodies, the positive vibe, and I’m pretty sure “Having the time of your life” is a vocal hook. This was a group of Swedes and here at least they nailed disco. I was only around at the very end of the ‘70s so I missed this. But yeah, 1 billion views definitely means that everyone’s enjoying it now.
Abba was Early Disco. The Groups name comes from the members initials... Agatha, Bjorn, Bennie and Anni-Frid. The "A" sound is like the names Agatha and Anni... One "B" is silent. Another Band along this style was "K C and the Sunshine Band"... you might try "That's the way I like it"! Or for a slightly Funkier sound there's "Wild Cherry" with "Play that funky music white boy"... there's SO MANY Songs and Artists I'd love to hear you React to!
Its a damn great song. No doubt. The drum beat is really good. The piano and strings, vocals are excellent. Bridge is perfect and the chorus is legendary.
ABBA has been pronounced AH-ba and sometimes Ab-ba. It is always spelled by using all capitals because the group's name comes from the first initials of the members. Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstadt. The names reflect the fact that the group comes from Sweden.
ABBA is 100% disco! They are so fun to dance to. If you’re looking for a place that plays this type of music to dance to, a lot of places do a 70s o 80s night every once in a while. Living in Houston I’m sure you could find something like that at a club. ABBA has so many good songs, but one that someone sent me one day that has become super catchy is “Chiquitita.” You listen to it and then the song just stays with you 😂
Their singing is actually soft. There's an amplification/compression audio technique process and their voices are highly dubbed to sound more powerful or "loud" within the dynamic ranges. Pretty much, the two men there are the main arrangers, producers, and writers. ABBA is short for Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The music is "pop" short for popular, but ABBA always blend elements of R&B, soul, rock, Swedish pop, and Spanish to name a few.
I don't know if you noticed it beautiful but you've answered my comments that I've left many times think about it for a brief moment have you ever bumped into anybody that has a broader range of music knowledge spanning many different genres odds are you won't except myself and the thing is this is true I'm not boasting I make DJ's look stupid my friends used to quit playing music trivia board games with me because I whooped their butt every time
They have amazing hits, Mamma Mia films had their music in them. Also, the film back in 1994 called Muriel's Wedding had this song. I suggest "Take A Chance On Me" and "Chiquitita" for starters. The brunette woman is Frida, she has a hit called "I Know There's Something Going On." Check it out. Welcome to Disco.
All four group members were married to each other. Anni-frid Lyngstad (the brunette) was married to benny ( the one on the piano) Agnetha( the blond) was married to Bjorn
"River of Deceit" LIVE AT THE MOORE is a song by the American rock band Mad Season, singer from Alice in chains and guitar player from pearljam it’s good
The disco answer to Fleetwood Mac: great songs, lovely ladies, and--- *two couples* bringin' their internal drama. :D U should check out "Take a Chance on Me," "SOS," "Waterloo," and anything else off the "Gold" album. That said--- yeah, I gotta 2nd the Blondie comment. :) Pretty much a natural playlist fit...
Hello Mia my love ❤ yes ABBA is the 70’s it was the height of Disco. They are from Sweden, I had a crush on the blonde when I was a kid. Speaking of the 70’s that is when the greatest rock band in history LED ZEPPELIN was selling out stadiums. Just your daily reminder! 😂 I hope I get a shoutout when you finally listen to them and realize how much you love them! ABBA is a disco band ❤

Everyone loves the ladies, but the guys are super talented songwriters who were smart enough to put the ladies in the front.

Go full on Disco and please react to “Stayin’ Alive” by The Bee Gees.
Dancing Queen is the happiest song in the world
For the disco era ABBA was very good. Miss Mia may I request Need Your Love by Cheap Trick from the
the Live at Budokan album. Also so very good. Cheap Trick was formed in 1973. My older sister brought home their album In Color. Then she brought home Dream Police. There is so much content but I will gladly settle for a reaction to Need Your Love.
I know about ABBA through my dad. He used to listen to them all the time when I was growing up. Good reaction, mia. You seem like such a sweetheart
You have to try " Momma Mia,or SOS, both amazing songs from ABBA
You can danceeee!!!
You can like whatever type of music, this will make you dance anyway 😂
AvengedSevenfold - Beast and the Harlot (Live at LBC) 🥺
nearly 26k subs at the time of recording and nearly 35k now. Wow, you are growing at a fast rate. Awesome to see!
Abba first began in there native sweden as a folk music band in 1972
Great Choice Mia!
Yay 26,000 that’s my girl congratulations babe❤
ABBA were immensly popular in the 70s, at one point, they had even sold more records than the Beatles.
Mon titre préféré de ABBA
Someone else said it too this was one of those songs you heard at the roller rinks I know I used to go to those a lot
I was 11 at the time this came out ,
From a Man's Point of view, This Song is a secret Pleasure 😁💃🕺💃🕺 It's Ahh Bahh
This isn’t normally my jam, but as far as bright, upbeat pop songs, it’s hard to top. The melodies, the positive vibe, and I’m pretty sure “Having the time of your life” is a vocal hook. This was a group of Swedes and here at least they nailed disco. I was only around at the very end of the ‘70s so I missed this. But yeah, 1 billion views definitely means that everyone’s enjoying it now.
And this song was in the Disco Era
My big sister got me interested in this song when we’re kids. Yes I’m old.😀, they are a foreign group that why the song sounds different to you.
ABBA has so many good songs, but one that someone sent me one day that has become super catchy is “Chiquitita.” You listen to it and then the song just stays with you 😂
Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd Live 1977 Oakland Ca that be a good one for Mia after dark
Hello Mia
Ever though this is disco, this is a great song.
The 70’s were amazing times especially the music
U should check out "Take a Chance on Me," "SOS," "Waterloo," and anything else off the "Gold" album.
That said--- yeah, I gotta 2nd the Blondie comment. :) Pretty much a natural playlist fit...
Classic reminded me of Linda Ronstadt "Just One Look"
Wow, ABBA!
Abba is pop music.
There is a movie musical that has quite a few of theyre songs. It's called Mama Mia. Which Mama Mia is a another good Abba song.
I hope I get a shoutout when you finally listen to them and realize how much you love them!
ABBA is a disco band ❤
ABBA has a lot of great songs. I think the song Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (a man after midnight) would suit you.
