April 1999, last party for a college group I belonged to. The music was playing and no one dancing. I said, "I got this," walked over to the DJ, "play Dancing Queen by Abba." 30 seconds later 100 21-year-olds on the dance floor! You ever find yourself in a similar spot, you know what to do. Abba!

What really floored me was that the two guys wrote ALL THE SONGS. Even the lyrics. They created quite a few songs from a girl's/woman's perspective and really knocked it out of the park. It's amazing.

_Finally,_ a young gal who appreciates (and calls attention to) specific _musical_ elements in songs, rather than just the lyrics. For example, your reaction to the drums & percussion (4:47), Benny's piano playing (5:14), and those glorious pre-chorus strings (5:24). Honestly, I've always listened to music the exact same way you do - _I savor every little musical morsel._ (even when I was a little kid) Anyway...

Frida!! Love her energy and personality while performing. She was having the best time whenever she was in stage and giving her all. Agnetha also a wonderful performer but in a slightly more low key way. This is THE song which will always be the most identifiable to ABBA given the enormity of its success and continued relevance even after 45 years after its original release in 1976. That is just remarkable. I hope you explore more of the ABBA world of musical brilliance because there is so much to hear and enjoy.

The name "ABBA" is an acronym of their names: Agnetha (blond), Benny (piano), Björn (guitar) and Anni-Frid (brunette). They are from Sweden and were active 1972-1982. They have sold about 400 million albums world wide and are one of the most succesful bands ever. In 2010 they were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by The Bee Gees. ABBA has tons of hits and they created that uniqe ABBA-sound that today is legendary. Agnetha and Anni-Frid were two of the greatest vocalists on their own, but when they start to harmonize their voices, that's when the real magic begins and it's just.... WOW WOW WOW

ABBA had tons of hit songs. Chiquitita, The Winner Takes It All, Mamma Mia, Fernando, Take a Chance on Me, Lay All Your Love on Me, Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! This song was such a MASSIVE hit in the mid 70's (I remember it well in high school), and has since continued its huge popularity. It's a dance/pop/disco song, but yet so much more than that. The instrumentals and vocals are superlative and capture a spirit which is not only elusive, but is simply difficult to define for any era of music.

You`d check the groove, the vibe. Ola Bunkert, (RIP) was their drummer from day number one. Style, taste and remarkable timing. Sweeden not was only Volvo, Saab and industry. This girls are that country`s national treasures.

This song was released the day I turned 17. The arrangement is perfect from the first piano hook, every element is repeated for affect in its own space. Only this song reached #1 in the US, but all were #1 with me.

One possible reason why you may not remember the strong musical introduction is because you probably heard the song when it was played on AM radio in the 1970s. It was common practice for the disc jockeys to talk over musical introductions until the vocals started and they often did the same thing at the end of the record. It's just the way things were done at the time.

Brings back memories of my halcyon days in NYC. My good friend/bartender used to climb up on the bar and pour shots directly from bottle to mouth every time that song came on the jukebox. Some of the best nights of my life. Thank you!

about 22 years ago, in 1999 or so, Kerrang Magazine in Germany did a worldwide survey, asking 480,000 people around the world for their opinions about songs. In pop music, this song was voted #3 dance/pop song of all time, in the WORLD. It was preceded ONLY by the Bee Gees "Night Fever" & "Stayin' Alive" but beating Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and notable other famous songs. #3 in the world. All-time. This song will be around FOREVER as an example of human excellence. When I was a teenager & young adult, ABBA was huge around the globe. I've been to & heard ABBA's songs in Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Nairobi, Santiago, Madrid, Zagreb, London, Paris, New York, Toronto, Denver, Lesotho, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Luzon, Manila, New Delhi, Cairo, Moscow, and every smaller city & town between them. Everyone around the planet LOVES them some ABBA! Hopefully, you do too! They have not performed together since 1982 & today, today, they are the #19 selling artist in the world. TODAY!
