David Draiman...a voice to die for. A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to vocal fry/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful tonal properties to it! An awesome talent. Got chills again!
i love the look on the faces of reactors, like they are in pain, suffering and the honey sweeps in through their ears and overwhelms them...delivering a punch to the gut that makes the whole body pucker and tingle.
He's not not wrong, though. And when you do not only listen to what people say but also look at their face and body language you get much more context and meaning.
There’s a live version on The Conan O’Brien Show that will almost certainly get blocked. I've often been moved by a piece of music, but..... the first time I heard this on the radio in my car, I had to pull over, I had tears in my eyes! Mindblowing. David has the MOST amazing voice
This is one of the songs (especially this version) that I love seeing people react to. It seems to always be people who either know nothing about the band Disturbed nor this sing (which is originally by Simon & Garfunkel); or people who at least have some familiarity with Disturbed's USUAL style and are totally shocked that they can even do something like this. And you are WONDERFULLY expressive, which was delightful to see. :) All through I was like "Dude, if you're reacting like that now, just wait until the next part, and the next, and the next."
This song was written in the dark in a bathroom on the floor two weeks after the death of John F Kennedy by Paul Simon sung by Simon and Garfunkel. The people at that time were angry with them because they felt like they were being preached at. And in my opinion they were. This version by David Draimin a former cantor in a jewish tabernacle. If you didn’t translate the meanings of the song go back and listen again because David a member of disturbed knew what he was singing. I gre up in evangelical churches and David sounded like a Pentecostal preacher preaching. Simon and Garfunkel sang the song as a folk song of the 60’s. But that’s not what it is here. Find your interpretation for yourself.
The original is by Simon and Garfunkel. Both Disturbed and Pentatonix (and prolly more, the song was released in the 60s)have covered it. Hold onto Memories is a fantastic Disturbed song and really shows David Draiman's vocal range (he trained to be a cantor).
The original is amazing in itself but this one.. it’s just.. it’s something else and I love watching people react to it because it’s so powerful, haunting, and beautiful, and everyone flips their shit when they hear it for the first time. 😄
Ain’t it the truth! I’m addicted to watching first time viewers react to it. Most get chills, a lot cry, and all of them love it. This guys reaction was definitely understated
I love this band. David is a top 5 vocalist of all time in my book. Freddy Mercury on top. They do everything from pretty heavy metal to songs like this and Hold on to the Memories. Great stuff.
The thing that always has amazed me about this version was their arrangement of it. It's not a synth, sound cut and paste. It's a real musical arrangement.
Somebody once said the three versions of this songs tell a story. The original is the quiet courage of the soldiers going to battle. The pentatonix version is he battle cry of the final assault. The disturbed version is the angerous rally of the survivors, crying of the foolishness of the battle.
I love his cover of this song. He is super talented. He's classically trained and was trained as a cantor in addition to singing in heavy metal band. And he was once a health care facility administrator.
The only thing better than this is watching someone listen to it for the first time! David Draiman was classically trained as a Cantor but he was a bit of a rebel & not cut out for the seminary, imagine that!

David does the best cover of this song I've ever heard done. A lot of music done in the late 60s and early 70s had messages, protests and enlightening. We came darn near close to changing the world for the better
Many people said .. Metal Guys didn't know how to sing, and here comes David saying"hold my beer" an jump to grab the microphone... That dang, man knows how to sing and had a life worth reading.!!!
S&G's version was a warning meant to be heard. This version is the anger because the warning was ignored and is meant to be felt. In your soul. This, young man, is what real talent sounds like.
Written by Simon and Garfunkel, released in the '60's, covered by Disturbed.... now, go look at the lyrics... it speaks of what was going on back in the '60's and even more to today's going on's. It says a lot about the way things are going.
At the end of the video, the boat taking the musicians taking the instruments back to those who are writing the music in the land of silence is soooo powerful (unfortunately, it's kind of blocked by the next recommended videos). Fantastic version.
If you think this is good then you should check out the live version on the Conen O'Brian show. It shows you how good Disturbed really are. David's voice sounds epic and I truly believe that the version on Conan is way better than the studio version.
You need to watch the video of this song to get the visual! What a masterful singer of this cover song that was originated by Simon & Garfunckle back in 1964!
David Draiman, classically trained and became known for his vocal distortion. You have probably heard of Down With the Sickness by now, but that is still, until now perhaps, their best known song, even if most people haven't made the connection. My favorite Disturbed song is Liberate.
Down in the grit is where it's lit. I've been listening to Disturbed since I've came down with The Sickness when it first came out. David and the band is amazing.
Disturbed is a rock band that became popular in the early 2000s. Some of their most famous songs are Stupify, Stricken, Down with the Sickness, The Game, Prayer, Liberate, and Land of Confusion.
For everyone who think David Draiman and Disturbed are just a hard-thrashin' band who only screams and growls, they haven't been paying attention. He used to be a cantor in his church, and his voice is exceptional. Check out "Prayer", "Stupify", "Voices", "Stricken".... they're amazing.
Idk if this was posted yet but if you look at the beginning of the video with only the instruments then the band or the "players" on there journey finding the instruments on the way to the "10000 people" who are writing the music. At the end you see the boat with the musicians pulling into a port with the people waiting for them bringing the music and the players together. I think its genius.
David’s voice is very well trained. He used to be the cantor at his Jewish Temple, a very important role in the service. His voice sang the Word of God. Can you imagine how beautiful that must have been. His voice goes multiple octaves from low to high.
The lead singer, David Draiman was a Jewish Hazzan (trained in the vocal arts who helps lead the congregation in songful prayer-Wikipedia). So he really had this smooth voice all along, but never used it, despite it being easier to use than his usual grit voice which he is known for and says it's harder to do You should check out some latter audioslave, soundgardern and temple of the dog, and some of chris cornell''s other tracks. He has incredible range, from high, powerful grunge (enough to blow out three microphones during a recording session), to a mid-low smooth vocals. His cover of "nothing compares to you" is superb, has amazing vocals. Also his final song before he committed suicide, found unfinished in his private collection "when bad does good" really shows off his medium range power at the beginning
This is a Simon and Garfunkel sing that David and the band chose to cover. It was a classic back in the day, but this version has so much more power and smacks you in the head with the lyrics instead of Paul Simon's gentle tap. Best version ever
The original sung by Simon & Garfunkel. The song was a tribute to Art Garfunkel. While in college he had a close bond with a friend who was going blind and eventually lost his sight. Art Garfunkel helped his friend through it and gave him the strength to be more independent. The man did go blind.. Sandford Greenberg and he called Garfunkel “darkness”. A nickname he gave himself. So yes, going blind has to be so scary and I think this version so captures that.
There are very few songs that I prefer a cover over the original, but this one is the top of the list. When the songwriter and original artist tells you he loves your version of his song, you know you've done it right. David is classically trained and has a voice that will not be ignored.
I would recommend Stricken, indestructible, or the vengeful one by Disturbed to hear their rock side. Alot of people will recommend Down with the sickness, which is a great song but you might think the last part of it is a little weird. For me it's cringey but it doesn't make me not like the song.
This is what you get when Urkel does a video review. Statements like "he can actually sing" are really insightful. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
David's Sound of Silence is like a Nascar race. You absolutely have to experience it atleast once in life, but after that first time theres a 99% chance youre hooked for life
Who still, 1000 times of hearing it, still gets chills when David goes into the grit.

I would recommend Stricken, indestructible, or the vengeful one by Disturbed to hear their rock side. Alot of people will recommend Down with the sickness, which is a great song but you might think the last part of it is a little weird. For me it's cringey but it doesn't make me not like the song.
It's said the original by Simon and Garfunkle was the warning, and Disturbed's was anger that that warning wasn't headed.
Song clearly went right over your head son….😢😢
This is what you get when Urkel does a video review. Statements like "he can actually sing" are really insightful. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
You should look up more Disturbd. That isn't their normal sound. Contrasting their normal sound to this is absolutely mind blowing
Simon and Garfunkel: We have a warning
Pentatonix: The angels are bringing a warning
Disturbed: You didn’t f’ing listen to the warning
This cover, by Disturbed, is the only rendition that gives me the chills as I listen to it.
The Blacklist TV show used this song to great effect on an episode. So ... emotional.
David's Sound of Silence is like a Nascar race. You absolutely have to experience it atleast once in life, but after that first time theres a 99% chance youre hooked for life
Amazing reaction. The ppl that didn't have music waited for instruments.
You're listening to all my generation's music. Thanks.
Not gonna lie, this seemed like a classic case of "fuck around and find out" with my man listening to the powerful stuff. To his credit, he gets "it".
The singer is a trained opera singer. His range is amazing. Godsmack is his band
Disturbed is the band. Godsmack is a very different band.
He is a classically trained Jewish Cantor. Disturbed live performance on Conan is even better
Simon and Garfunkle's original version was a warning, Disturbed's was an admonishment for failing to heed the warning.
Simon & Garfunkel are the original singers to the sound of silence
David has one of the best voices of all time. He can attract a bigger audience if he records more songs using his powerful voice. Love this version!
I cannot do a deep dive into the lyrics justice. But a deep dive is a must.
When brotherman David starts singing this song you can't help but make stank face. Awesome song.
Thank you for bringing this version. Thank you for sharing.
Love this version
Always gets to me. Chills 💜💜
Oh, that’s his true voice without autotune.
More Disturbed please!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻Really can’t go wrong and you’ll see quickly this is not their typical sound 😆
Seeing this live is a vibe like no other!
The original, by Simon & Garfunkel, was a warning.
This cover, by Disturbed, is anger that the warning was ignored.
