I’ve watched a lot of these reactions. The comments I’ve heard the most are, “ok…wow”, and, “I was not expecting that”. I love watching people find this song. It brings me to a good space, and I love that we can all share this.
I remember waking up at 5 am after an all night party in the early 70's and someone in the house was playing the original, I loved it but didn't see a message in it, now at 67 I do.
My daughter asked me to listen to this.. I didn’t like the kind of music Disturbed was known for.. I told her “no.. I’m not listening, they will mess it up” .. she said .. “ no, ma… they don’t.. just listen with an open mind” … I did.. NOW.. I am officially a Disturbed fan.. I can’t hear enough of this beautiful man’s voice.
I have now watched well over 100 reaction videos to this song. I live for that moment where the reviewer goes from the need to "Explain" things or other chatty comments to the moment of realization they have nothing to say, and instead need to just experience it in stunned silence. It is like I'm experiencing the song for the first time again.
I'm on that exact same trip of checking out all the reviewers just to relive that first ... chill? for the first time again. Been at it for 2 days now and wow
Im 68 years old i grew up with the original. But this reaches right to your soul. That man's voice is amazing i could listen to this over vand over. Just beautiful ❤️
I've known S&G song "Sound of Silence", and I love the melancholic type but I never paid attention to the words but this version of "Disturbed", it really reaches to my soul. I can listen to this song anytime and anyday. I've watched also almost all the reactions and still can't get enough of it. This version was magnificent!
This cover performance and video does leave you speechless!! Love your “voice of a hopeful wanderer” description. Love your take on the symbolism, very intuitive and astute!! Thank you. Yes, David’s voice is truly captivating!!
Yeah...the 'uuuummm...uuummm' is pretty much everyone's reaction after this version. It really does make you sit and think...re-evaluating your life and choices. He really hits home with this - great reaction.
78 year old female here...I graduated high school when this song originally came out (1964). It was a "cute ditty" that really did not resonate with any of my age group...yeah, S & G got a new hit, yeah, it's cool, just sing along...snore. When I heard Disturbed's version a couple of years ago, I just sat in shock...the words actually spoke to me. I had been a bartender, cocktail waitress, musician all in New Orleans, finally joined the Air Force in 1973, spent more than 20 years in, did a lot of other "stuff" but it took this version of the song to Gibbs slap me and make me realize what S & G had actually written.
Ah the incomparable David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He is so unique as he actually puts vibrato on his distortion!....also VERY difficult to do...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction.
Disturbed has been one of my favorite bands for about 20 years. I suspect this is recommended because it shows off David's vocal ability, and is more palatable for those who may not like the heavy they normally bring. That said, I have never heard a bad Disturbed song.
You’re the second person who interpreted the song to be about music, that thought never entered my mind. To me the message of the song remains the same as when Simon and Garfunkel sang it in 1964. Disturbed brought it into 21st-century when almost all hope is gone and they did it brilliantly!
This and Johnny Cash's "Hurt" have to be two of the best covers ever. They gave a whole new meaning and life to the originals, which were great on their own. The live performance of Disturbed on Conan is also amazing. I doubted I would like it as much as this since the video imagery is so compelling, but I'm glad to be wrong.
Everyone has a "wow" reaction the first time they hear this. It's just that powerful. "Disturbed" turned out another cover I really like of Sting, whose music I really love. They covered "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." I thought it was another stunning cover.
First of all, thank you so much for not pausing! Disturbed has quite an extensive library of hits, but one of my favorites is 10,000 Fists. So much energy!
I wasn't around when Simon and Garfunkel did this, but I've heard it. I will say Disturbed's version is the best I've heard. When Paul Simon (the writer) texted David (lead singer of Disturbed) and told him that this song now belongs to Disturbed, what an honor. Disturbed does more metal, but I did love the duet with David and Ann Wilson (from Heart). Very versatile band. One of my favorites. Thanks for playing it through...it is one of those kind of songs. Great reaction ❤
Loved that you took your time, didn't interrupt, and actually gave a good interpretation. You can usually tell when a reaction is fake, and someone is rush through just to get the points. Thanks for giving a real reaction.
I've been listening to disturbed for over 20 years, David Draiman, the vocalist, has an amazing and extremely wide vocal range, was a Jewish canter as a boy and also trained in classical opera for many years, dude can do literally anything with his voice.. Check out their original song, a ballad as well called "Hold on to memories" ❤️ another of my favorites 😊
There is a Live Version On Conan O'Brian Show 3/28/2016. It is Fire ! 🔥🔥 I was at that Show , Second Row Almost in The Middle. He did have the Flu, But He Nailed It. I Think This was So Much Better Than The Offical Video. He also Engages with People By Making Eye Contact. Don't Just Take My word, Check it out and See & Hear for Yourself. ❤
I actually just watched an interview with David and he actually had a bleeding lesion on his vocal cord. I don’t know where the flu rumor came from. Maybe that’s what they told you guys. But can you imagine how much more impressive it is knowing that it wasn’t the flu. I know it blows me away. I am so envious that you actually got to see that performance. I would have been weeping by the end of it. 🤗💋🥰

I am so glad you did this one Zack. Disturbed is my guilty pleasure. He is a very angry man who is disgusted with society. His songs carry very powerful messages. I’ve actually learned to enjoy their music. Like I said anything David sings. You’ll probably be recommended to listen to their biggest hit DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS if you watch anything other than the official video you will get to hear the third verse that is cut out of that video. I will let you know right now that when he’s talking about mother, he is referring to society not his mom. Between listening to this and PTX I tend to get whiplash. If you’ve "never heard a build’ arrangement like that, check out classical music…this is a standard low entrance, big build to grand crescendo classical arrangement. Most old world composers symphonies are like this. A good short example is Griegs In The Hall Of The Mountain King. I tell people this is a gateway drug to classical music. He’s trained classically {but is a fantastic metal singer) so in essence you’ve heard an operatic performance backed by an orchestra in a classical style arrangement. The live version they did on Conan is so much more powerful. FYI, Paul Simon, after hearing their version, told David Draiman, that the song is 'theirs' now. David Draiman is a classically trained cantor and singer. His vocals are powerful. Down with the sickness, Stupify, The Light, Hold on to the Memories it goes on. But, you should do a reaction of the live version on Conan, his voice is more powerful.
The choice they made to do the video in black and white was inspired. When you listen to the video you have no Las Vages show nonsense to distract from the medssage. Absolutely my favorite cover.
This song gave me chills. Nobody heard the message in the Simon and Garfunkel version. The meaning I get out of it is "government controle and nobody is talking about it." Hints "THE Sound Of Silence."

Check out disturbed prayer
The choice they made to do the video in black and white was inspired. When you listen to the video you have no Las Vages show nonsense to distract from the medssage. Absolutely my favorite cover.
Dig it!!

Do the live version from Conan....
