Thank you for reacting to this song.....I grew up listening to the S&G version, which I love.....But the first time I heard this I was totally blown away by the intensity of emotions that I felt while listening....This has become my favourite song of all time.....I listen to it almost every day...I had never heard of Disturbed before I heard them perform this.... Please react to "If I ever lose my faith in you" (Sting cover) and "A reason to fight"...The official live video of A reason to fight is amazing, and the messaage behind it touches all who listen to it....I've heard both the live and the studio versions and they are both amazing..... I know next to nothing about musical composition, but your explanations are easy to understand and make a lot of sense to me....I notice things that I would not have noticed before after your explanations.... I don't know if you know a bit about David's history. His father was a priest, and he grew up singing in a church choir. People are so surprised at how high he goes, but he says it is due to the choir singing when he was younger.

I totally agree with Jeff Bowden about your voice. The biggest problem with audio books are the ppl reading them. Many read too fast, are not articulate, don’t enunciate. You have the perfect voice for audio books. I also could listen to you all day. Your voice is perfect for talk radio too - if you’re not already doing that.
I hope people get that the first few seconds of the video ARE the Sounds of Silence. The visuals of this video were produced with such perfection. David Draiman's voice is the only voice that could ever bring such power, emotion and appreciation to the lyrics of this song.
I'm musically illiterate (can't read it, write it, sing or play it) and I only know a song is incredible when it rattles me to the core and this MUSIC VIDEO does just that, in a million different ways - the story-telling or visuals are just as overwhelming to the senses as the spot-on perfect voice of David Draiman's singing. Just Incredible! Leaves me breathless every time!
Simon and Garfunkel version is melancholy, a powerless emotion. Pentatonix version is hopeful, a waiting emotion. Disturbed version is angry, a powerful emotion.
This was my husband's favorite song he loved this version. Sadly he lost his battle with cancer. You are so right the first time I heard it after losing him the words just jumped out at me like I had truly never heard them before😪💔
There is a tremendous live performance of David doing this on the Conan late show. He was sick during that performance but still sounded amazing. There is some slight auto-tuning that the producers threw in during post production. David was pissed at this and had requested ahead of time that they not use autotune.
You’re the first person that I have seen to react who actually picked up on the theme of the video. The gulf between the ones with the sheet music and the ones with musical instruments. And how there was resolution at the end with the boat bringing them together to disturb the sound of silence. Kudos to you!
Distubed is my favourite band and I've seen them in concert many times. When this song starts the entire stadium goes silent. The fucking pit quiets down, its so mesmerising
Most people don't realize the "10,000 people"are on one side of the river bank are all holding sheet music in their hand,with the musicians standing on the opposite bank with their instruments.That they are literally separated by the river.At the end of the video,the musicians are on a boat crossing the divide.
The crowning glory of this song for me is just how differently it emotes from the original. Metal's influences makes it hit much closer to home. Really looking forward to more heavy music vids whenever they come 🙌🤘

This is about my 30th reaction video to "Disturb's" version of "Sounds of Silence". Their version "blows me away" - thought provoking and "convicting" to me regarding it's accuracy of being prophetic. Want to say Peter, your analysis and attention to detail are fantastic!! Well done!

I'll be honest and say Disturbed is usually not my thing at all, but my partner loves them so are often on his playlists. When I first heard this song I was driving and I made hubby play it back several times because I was so blown away and there was just so much to take in. It's not just full of emotion, it's all the emotions! Suggestions - Adam Lambert, and I'd love to hear your breakdowns of some real classics like Queen and Genesis, or George Michael, and Annie Lennox! They're all phenomenal (can you tell I'm old and British? 🤣🤦♀️).

I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s. I bought every one of their albums. I always loved this song. Disturbed nailed it. Nobody does it better.
Watching your breathing particularly during the first few minutes was so telling. You had a physical reaction and your breathing seemed to help you deal with the building emotion, it was lovely!

David Draiman....an unbelievable voice...whether singing in clear angelic tones or rasp. A voice that is one of the few on the planet that is instantly recognizable. So.... I just watched your review of the live version, and saw this one had a review here. And this is the one I wanted to comment on. Any artist, IMO, needs to watch this video. Because to me, it reflects the ... bravery of the music creators/producers/singers. Initially, all the instruments are destroyed. The piano that starts it all is on fire with only a few keys still even usable. So that's where it starts. And as David comes out of whatever hibernation/closet/bunker he had to hide in, the two help each other build and recover. Then a functional drum and banged up but still usable guitar are found, and introduced. Simple, sure, but amazing. Because as we then start seeing the .... "People", faceless, only shapes but holding music. And it dawned on me that the music they hold is the music of themselves, of their lives. And while David is gathering up the remains of 'music' we realize that whatever conflict/strike/detonation actually separated The People from the music. And The People were left ... voiceless. Shells. Unable to express what they needed to, to be seen, to be heard, to be understood. And as David (the song) kicks it up to the warning that was ignored, we see the boat coming through the fog that separated the lands, and we realize..... The music is coming back again, *despite* whatever strike had been done to it. That the music dusted itself off, and would learn from the warning unheeded, but it came back nonetheless. That the sound of silence was ..... dangerous. Dark. Isolating. And you all, the actual brave ones that use music and other performance art to try and build those bridges between people, try to help heal through shared experience..... That is why I feel everyone that does music production or criticism of any kind need to see this. The live version is truly amazing, but the imagery in the music video makes it, for me at least, a vastly different message and performance. The live version I like to think of as David storytelling to us all around a campfire (all the orange and blue lighting). This is a very different endgame in my mind.
Henk Poort (a fellow opera singer) did a cover of this version on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers (which Floor Jansen was also on). Might be up your alley.

THIS however……this…..OMG! Just the BEST, BEST version. The raw gritty pain and emotion he evokes with his voice…..I just can’t 🤦🏼♀️😵💫 I love your channel….I learn so much. And I’m not even a singer!! I recently discovered your channel and have been loving your analysis! I am technically a professional vocalist (on a very small scale) but have always struggled to read music. My entire vocal career has been built on my ear and my understanding of music through feeling. It's very strange and nothing I would actually consider professional but I have somehow made it into a sustainable job. ANYWAYS, what I love about these videos is your extensive knowledge and willingness to walk us through the technicalities of vocal performance. I am learning so much by watching these and have been able to actually put names to the techniques I've been using, and musical "feelings" I've experienced throughout the years. This song came out in my early years. It’s always meant a lot to me, but listening to this and Pentatonix’s versions and YOUR commentary on them has brought an enormous growth in my appreciation of the song. I’ve always been a “listener of the words” kind of person and those words are what have affected me so much. Someone else in these comments noted the differences in the tone of S&G, Pentatonix and Disturbed’s attitude. I couldn’t agree more. out of all the versions of Sound of Silence (excluding the Simon and Garfunkel OG), Disturbed's version is the most iconic, powerful and definitely the one that made me tear up. I know a lot has also have PTX's version as the best version for acapella, but I digress. You should check Peter Hollens + Tim Foust's version. Their version is also very haunting, yet kind of relaxing

This is also my favorite version of the song. I’m also a huge Disturbed fan, and David’s voice, and vocal skills/abilities. I heard someone once say, that the original version of “The Sound of Silence” was more like a “warning of war”, but David’s version is like “the war is here” (or more ‘angry’). Something similar to that. Anyways, I’m glad you analyzed this song/Disturbed version. So, I know you did “Stranger” by Dimash, and I wanted to let you know he did a new version of the song-and it’s mind-blowing. It’s like he completely upgraded the song to a whole different level. The instrument boat at the end looked to me like an Ark type vessel that was crossing the divide reconnecting to the people who wrote the music on the opposite shore. I love this version of the song. It is a shame that this wasn't your first time seeing the video. It is so powerful and a big surprised when all you have heard are the softer versions. Speaking of branching out, have you heard of Post Modern Jukebox? They take modern songs and change them into 40's. 50's, 60's sounding big band/jazz/ blues which are fantastic. I would recommend Post Modern Jukebox's official videos of them doing Creep or Seven Nation Army featuring Haley Reinhart on vocals. The arrangements are fantastic and Haley has a phenomenal range and stage presence. Scott Bradlee, the band leader/pianist does a great job reimagining and arranging the music. You won't be disappointed.

Then a functional drum and banged up but still usable guitar are found, and introduced. Simple, sure, but amazing. Because as we then start seeing the .... "People", faceless, only shapes but holding music. And it dawned on me that the music they hold is the music of themselves, of their lives. And while David is gathering up the remains of 'music' we realize that whatever conflict/strike/detonation actually separated The People from the music. And The People were left ... voiceless. Shells. Unable to express what they needed to, to be seen, to be heard, to be understood. And as David (the song) kicks it up to the warning that was ignored, we see the boat coming through the fog that separated the lands, and we realize..... The music is coming back again, *despite* whatever strike had been done to it. That the music dusted itself off, and would learn from the warning unheeded, but it came back nonetheless.
That the sound of silence was ..... dangerous. Dark. Isolating. And you all, the actual brave ones that use music and other performance art to try and build those bridges between people, try to help heal through shared experience..... That is why I feel everyone that does music production or criticism of any kind need to see this. The live version is truly amazing, but the imagery in the music video makes it, for me at least, a vastly different message and performance. The live version I like to think of as David storytelling to us all around a campfire (all the orange and blue lighting). This is a very different endgame in my mind.

This song came out in my early years. It’s always meant a lot to me, but listening to this and Pentatonix’s versions and YOUR commentary on them has brought an enormous growth in my appreciation of the song. I’ve always been a “listener of the words” kind of person and those words are what have affected me so much. Someone else in these comments noted the differences in the tone of S&G, Pentatonix and Disturbed’s attitude. I couldn’t agree more. IMO, this is the Best rendition of this song.
out of all the versions of Sound of Silence (excluding the Simon and Garfunkel OG), Disturbed's version is the most iconic, powerful and definitely the one that made me tear up.
I know a lot has also have PTX's version as the best version for acapella, but I digress. You should check Peter Hollens + Tim Foust's version. Their version is also very haunting, yet kind of relaxing

This is also my favorite version of the song. I’m also a huge Disturbed fan, and David’s voice, and vocal skills/abilities. I heard someone once say, that the original version of “The Sound of Silence” was more like a “warning of war”, but David’s version is like “the war is here” (or more ‘angry’). Something similar to that. Anyways, I’m glad you analyzed this song/Disturbed version.
So, I know you did “Stranger” by Dimash, and I wanted to let you know he did a new version of the song-and it’s mind-blowing. It’s like he completely upgraded the song to a whole different level. The instrument boat at the end looked to me like an Ark type vessel that was crossing the divide reconnecting to the people who wrote the music on the opposite shore. I love this version of the song. It is a shame that this wasn't your first time seeing the video. It is so powerful and a big surprised when all you have heard are the softer versions. Speaking of branching out, have you heard of Post Modern Jukebox? They take modern songs and change them into 40's. 50's, 60's sounding big band/jazz/ blues which are fantastic. I would recommend Post Modern Jukebox's official videos of them doing Creep or Seven Nation Army featuring Haley Reinhart on vocals. The arrangements are fantastic and Haley has a phenomenal range and stage presence. Scott Bradlee, the band leader/pianist does a great job reimagining and arranging the music. You won't be disappointed.

The way you broke up the song was so informative. And OMW you also have a real deep voice. 👍 I have listened to it so many times I can't remember. The part where he starts singing"and the people bowed and prayed" still gives me the chills. All in all the whole song is brilliant.
