I am a 70 year old Great Grandmother, I am not a hard rocker but this group does songs that mean something. Today I have watched and listened to folks on You Tube watch and listen to this for the first time. Each and everyone of them, like me got goose bumps some even cried. I am still getting goose bumps everytime I hear it, even today after seeing and hearing it at least 10 times today.

I'm 38 and don't remember listening to the original. Even though my mom and dad would have the 50s 60s and 70s playing on the radio in our car. I listened to more 80 hair bands country and the Backstreet Boys as teenagers. Though when I heard this version a few weeks ago. I have loved it along with so very few many bands through the years. Cause of they rarely touch me.
I have heard this song at least a hundred times and every time I am awestruck at such vocal talent. I get goosebumps and most of the time I cry as well. This song touches some part of me that very few songs ever have!
I am 68 years old (f) and have just “discovered” Disturbed . I am not a metal fan but WOW.😮 Their version of The Sound of Silence is just blowing me away like nothing I have heard before. That man’s voice is disturbingly beautiful. Love the drums and violins too. Again, WOW.

David Draiman it ranked in the top 100 of all time vocalist. Disturbed is one of the most versa tiles bands today. While they are known as a heavy metal band, they do songs that touch everyone. Their covers changes the meaning of the original song to touch on what is happening in today's world, (If Ever I Lose My Faith in You). They are advocates of the prevention of drug abuse, depression and suicide in which they sing "A Reason to Fight" at each concert. Their song "Holding On To Memories" is a song for those grieving the loss of loved ones. You will not find another band that touches so many in the songs they do.

I couldn’t agree more! I had heard of them but had never listened to them! Now!!! I’ve listened to every interview and watched all of their videos! One month ago I really didn’t know Anything about them. Today, by far and above, my very favorite band! I can’t stop listening to them. They are Not just a Heavy Metal Band, At All!!! 69 year old lady here. I've listened and sung to S&G all my life in the best and worst of times. Over and over and over again. But Disturbed has silenced me. I have am in such awe of this version that I must hear each note over and over again. It would be disrespectful for my ugly voice to interfere. David takes me on a mega rollercoaster between meditation and angst. Thanks for a masterpiece David and Disturbed. I now want 'Hold on to the Memories' at my memorial.

Totally understandable to be overtaken by the outstanding vocals, but the video along with it is incredibly beautiful...the people with musical instruments are separated from the people with the sheet music by the body of water. The end shows the boat filled with instruments reaching the people with the sheet music. The whole video is a gift for the ears, eyes, and soul.

The control in his voice is unbelievable. While I know he was sick for the live version, it is so amazing to me to see how close he is to the microphone. He doesn't move it away from his mouth as many do when he gets powerful and raspy. Unbelievable control.

His ‘war battle eyes’ could be that he was trying to come across with an angry expression of all the things going on in the world today. ..that people, politicians, aren’t listening to..listening and addressing. The way those drums were pounded in the middle part of the song, they sounded like battle drums, before, adding expression of passion and anger and “war “, not actual war , but metaphorical war, on what’s wrong in the world , I mean there are many things wrong, I would love to know his thoughts and sentiments on what he was expressing and what this song means to him

I didn't know Disturbed and David Draiman until a couple of days ago, and I have been watching everyone's different RUclips videos and their comments. This video is so ●POWERFUL ● EMOTIONAL ●RELIVAINT to our time. I find myself crying even after watching numerous times. I want to share it with the world 🌎. I also enjoy watching the live performance on Conan.
David can always sing live exactly like their records! The man has major talent, great range and awesome control. He can go from baritone to angelic tenor, to rasp/grit/distortion and back on a dime....which is not easy to do. Have seen Disturbed live twice...they are amazing! Loved your reaction !

I just wonder how many of us 60, 70, 80 year olds love this song? I loved Simon and Garfunkel in the 60's. Their voices were so beautiful. As so many others have said, Simon and Garfunkel's song sounded like a warning to humanity. David's version shows how the people neglected the warning. Even the writings of the Prophets of the Old Testament and New, were being ignored. It is sad because we see this happening now. People are refusing to hear the truth. The Righteous are being told to keep silent even though we have the GOD GIVEN right to speak TRUTH. Governments around the world are trying to take the Bible out of people's lives. Only by listening to the truth can we escape the lies. This man David did a TERRIFIC JOB singing and bring sense to this song! David, I pray the LORD will give you more songs that people will hear and understand them that will help to change their lives for the good. King David of the Old Testament wrote beautiful songs praising the LORD!!!0

I have only heard 1 opera singer pick it up, but David was very ill with the flu on the Conan version, yet I think it's as good, if not better than the video. If you listen back to back you can hear it but it just added a slight bit more rasp. He is classically trained and is absolutely amazing vocalist! He didn't use automated! Refused it! Simon said it's as much David's as it is his now. High praise! So glad you viewed both.

You're referring to the live version on Conan, not this official video version... I prefer this version, as it doesn't have autotune that was inflicted upon the live version by stage crew who didn't abide by David's wishes...
Very true and they asked him to just lip sync to the album version and he said no my fans deserve to see me perform whatever way it is. I'm just paraphrasing but that was the gist he wanted to show them actually doing it no matter how it turned out.
You make 2 very profound observations I’ve not heard from others. You’re absolutely right that David Draiman’s eyes have witnessed trauma and contrast his warm and beautiful voice in this song. This song takes us on the journey (or out of the moment) if we’re really listening. It feels like there should be more verses; like the journey should continue! I read right after release that in Disturbed’s rendition, David Draiman has to sing the parts and range of Simon AND Garfunkel. Not only does he do it, he pulls the listeners into the musical journey in a way Simon and Garfunkel never did. No disrespect to them; they were ahead of their time and I grew up listening to them. But THIS one touches the soul and is more relevant now than when the original was written. Awesome reaction!

Most people don't realize the musicians are on one River Bank all the other people on the opposite River Bank all have sheet music and they are unable to meet in the middle. The musicians are literally separated from the music by a river. At the end of the video the musicians are on a boat with their musical instruments crossing the river to all the people that are holding the sheet music.

Finally i just watched a "reviewer" that really got it. That video/ song is like taking a journey. It's an experience and you got it. David's soul is as beautiful as the song he sung so beautifully . I don't know if you know that he was sick while singing on the conan show... and he still delivered. To me Simon and Garfunkel the original writers and performers were telling us back in the 60’s when I first heard the song to get our shit together or the future won’t be pretty and David’s version is saying oh well the shit has now hit the fan!!!!! I graduated in 1964 when Simon and Garfunkel produced and wrote this song. I was hooked from the very first. I HATE hard metal, it just isn't my thing, but this man, the singer of Disturb has brought this song to a new level. This is my favorite version of this song. So powerful, so much emotion, chills throughout the song, but end, with that GROWL in perfect pitch to the music, loud and clear, I nearly fell off my chair. I am not kidding you when I say I could listen to this song all day and never get tired of it. Did you know from what I learned this man is a Jewish Cantor, and when seeing him interviewed on a Jewish podcast, he is deeply affected, as we all were with the senseless terrorist attack on his people Oct. 7. In my own opinion, and trust me, I am not musical at all, but it is as if his voice is bringing out all the anger he feels for the mistreatment of his beloved Israel toward the end of the song.

The look on the face of someone who has never heard this song and is listening to it for the first time (Disturbed's version) is priceless. Then when this version David sings gets to the growl the look is even more priceless. I saw one first view from a content creator who always skipped this song while listening to the CD and cried (literally) from all the years he did this and missed out on this song.

He did an acoustic tour and his first show was in London. Look up "Corey Taylor Live in London" and listen to "Snuff" first. it must be that version from that show. I assure you it will... well just watch it it is worth it. The audience is a huge part of the show and I have never been a fan of audience participation this show is the exception to the rule.

I am so glad to see somebody compare the video version and the live version. Very well done! That version played on Conan was better than the video, in my opinion. Also, he was sick when they were on Conan which is a testament to his skill. He is trained as a Cantor which is why his vocal abilities are so good.

He had a bad flu/bronchitis in the live performance. A fever of 102, sore throat and rough as can be, but still pulled off that amazing performance. The guy is a legend, and the instrumentalists are impressive as well.

I am a 70 year old Great Grandmother, I am not a hard rocker but this group does songs that mean something. Today I have watched and listened to folks on You Tube watch and listen to this for the first time. Each and everyone of them, like me got goose bumps some even cried. I am still getting goose bumps everytime I hear it, even today after seeing and hearing it at least 10 times today.

I'm 38 and don't remember listening to the original. Even though my mom and dad would have the 50s 60s and 70s playing on the radio in our car. I listened to more 80 hair bands country and the Backstreet Boys as teenagers. Though when I heard this version a few weeks ago. I have loved it along with so very few many bands through the years. Cause of they rarely touch me.
I have heard this song at least a hundred times and every time I am awestruck at such vocal talent. I get goosebumps and most of the time I cry as well. This song touches some part of me that very few songs ever have!

David Draiman it ranked in the top 100 of all time vocalist. Disturbed is one of the most versa tiles bands today. While they are known as a heavy metal band, they do songs that touch everyone. Their covers changes the meaning of the original song to touch on what is happening in today's world, (If Ever I Lose My Faith in You). They are advocates of the prevention of drug abuse, depression and suicide in which they sing "A Reason to Fight" at each concert. Their song "Holding On To Memories" is a song for those grieving the loss of loved ones. You will not find another band that touches so many in the songs they do.

69 year old lady here. I've listened and sung to S&G all my life in the best and worst of times. Over and over and over again. But Disturbed has silenced me. I have am in such awe of this version that I must hear each note over and over again. It would be disrespectful for my ugly voice to interfere.

Totally understandable to be overtaken by the outstanding vocals, but the video along with it is incredibly beautiful...the people with musical instruments are separated from the people with the sheet music by the body of water. The end shows the boat filled with instruments reaching the people with the sheet music. The whole video is a gift for the ears, eyes, and soul.

David Draimen was recovering from an illness when he was on the Conan show. It shows how much of a showman he is to sing it so well again.
The control in his voice is unbelievable. While I know he was sick for the live version, it is so amazing to me to see how close he is to the microphone. He doesn't move it away from his mouth as many do when he gets powerful and raspy. Unbelievable control.

His ‘war battle eyes’ could be that he was trying to come across with an angry expression of all the things going on in the world today. ..that people, politicians, aren’t listening to..listening and addressing. The way those drums were pounded in the middle part of the song, they sounded like battle drums, before, adding expression of passion and anger and “war “, not actual war , but metaphorical war, on what’s wrong in the world , I mean there are many things wrong, I would love to know his thoughts and sentiments on what he was expressing and what this song means to him

I didn't know Disturbed and David Draiman until a couple of days ago, and I have been watching everyone's different RUclips videos and their comments. This video is so ●POWERFUL ● EMOTIONAL ●RELIVAINT to our time. I find myself crying even after watching numerous times. I want to share it with the world 🌎. I just wonder how many of us 60, 70, 80 year olds love this song? I loved Simon and Garfunkel in the 60's. Their voices were so beautiful. As so many others have said, Simon and Garfunkel's song sounded like a warning to humanity. David's version shows how the people neglected the warning. Even the writings of the Prophets of the Old Testament and New, were being ignored. It is sad because we see this happening now. People are refusing to hear the truth. The Righteous are being told to keep silent even though we have the GOD GIVEN right to speak TRUTH. Governments around the world are trying to take the Bible out of people's lives. Only by listening to the truth can we escape the lies. This man David did a TERRIFIC JOB singing and bring sense to this song! David, I pray the LORD will give you more songs that people will hear and understand them that will help to change their lives for the good. I have only heard 1 opera singer pick it up, but David was very ill with the flu on the Conan version, yet I think it's as good, if not better than the video. If you listen back to back you can hear it but it just added a slight bit more rasp. He is classically trained and is absolutely amazing vocalist! He didn't use automated! Refused it! Simon said it's as much David's as it is his now. High praise! So glad you viewed both.

You're referring to the live version on Conan, not this official video version... I prefer this version, as it doesn't have autotune that was inflicted upon the live version by stage crew who didn't abide by David's wishes...

You make 2 very profound observations I’ve not heard from others. You’re absolutely right that David Draiman’s eyes have witnessed trauma and contrast his warm and beautiful voice in this song. This song takes us on the journey (or out of the moment) if we’re really listening. It feels like there should be more verses; like the journey should continue! I read right after release that in Disturbed’s rendition, David Draiman has to sing the parts and range of Simon AND Garfunkel. Not only does he do it, he pulls the listeners into the musical journey in a way Simon and Garfunkel never did. No disrespect to them; they were ahead of their time and I grew up listening to them. But THIS one touches the soul and is more relevant now than when the original was written. Awesome reaction!

Most people don't realize the musicians are on one River Bank all the other people on the opposite River Bank all have sheet music and they are unable to meet in the middle. The musicians are literally separated from the music by a river. At the end of the video the musicians are on a boat with their musical instruments crossing the river to all the people that are holding the sheet music.

I graduated in 1964 when Simon and Garfunkel produced and wrote this song. I was hooked from the very first. I HATE hard metal, it just isn't my thing, but this man, the singer of Disturb has brought this song to a new level. This is my favorite version of this song. So powerful, so much emotion, chills throughout the song, but end, with that GROWL in perfect pitch to the music, loud and clear, I nearly fell off my chair. I am not kidding you when I say I could listen to this song all day and never get tired of it. Did you know from what I learned this man is a Jewish Cantor, and when seeing him interviewed on a Jewish podcast, he is deeply affected, as we all were with the senseless terrorist attack on his people Oct. 7. In my own opinion, and trust me, I am not musical at all, but it is as if his voice is bringing out all the anger he feels for the mistreatment of his beloved Israel toward the end of the song.

The look on the face of someone who has never heard this song and is listening to it for the first time (Disturbed's version) is priceless. Then when this version David sings gets to the growl the look is even more priceless. I saw one first view from a content creator who always skipped this song while listening to the CD and cried (literally) from all the years he did this and missed out on this song.

He did an acoustic tour and his first show was in London. Look up "Corey Taylor Live in London" and listen to "Snuff" first. it must be that version from that show. I assure you it will... well just watch it it is worth it. The audience is a huge part of the show and I have never been a fan of audience participation this show is the exception to the rule.

His voice is beyond amazing. Comparing the recorded version to his live performance, bear in mind he had the flu when he sang this live performance. I have always loved Disturbed, I’m now 65 and still regard them as the best there is.

I am so glad to see somebody compare the video version and the live version. Very well done! That version played on Conan was better than the video, in my opinion. Also, he was sick when they were on Conan which is a testament to his skill. He is trained as a Cantor which is why his vocal abilities are so good.
