I migrated to Ecuador 🇪🇨 living in Sector Basílica, Quito Sur, Centro Histórico. After making several trips over a ten year period, I made the move. I have been living in Ecuador for two years. As a United States 🇺🇸 citizen, I haven't been missing very much. The Biden/Harris administration is corrupt. The healthcare system is corrupt. Money is driving it. Most of our politicians are corrupt and on the take financially. The economy is in terrible shape, and economic inflation is through the roof. The corrupt Biden Administration opened up our borders and flooded the country with illegal immigrants. Their goal was twofold. The first was to establish a permanent underclass. The second was to solidify their voting base and establish a one party Marxist/Socialist form of government. I counciled my Equatorianous friends not to immigrate to the United States at this time. Some listened to me, and a few did not. Now, the United States has new leadership that I believe is going to get the economy back up and running properly. But with new leadership, America is going to have new challenges and problems. The liberal Socialist Democratic Party who control many of our beautiful major cities have destroyed most of them. They have robbed and cheated and conspired down through the years, leaving many major cities in ruin. Ecuador 🇪🇨 has a far superior education system. Ecuador prizes education, and the kids are great in their uniforms. America's inner city schools are little more than zoos. Ecuador 🇪🇨 has a superior healthcare system. This is due to the medical professionals caring and not selling out for profit alone. Ecuador 🇪🇨 is not perfect. No country is. But I plan to live out my life here, apply for Ecuadorian citizenship, and have a second passport.

My plans haven't been finalized, so this is very helpful since I am eager to visit in 2025. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you!!!

Colombia, Peru and several Asian countries are actually cheaper for food. As long as one sticks to local food it's cheap. Everything imported is quite expensive to ridiculous expensive.

I just returned a week ago from Ecuador: Stayed the week; the energy crisis didn’t really effect too much because most of the hours without power were in the early mornings when I was asleep, but you were always conscious of it and the blackouts did not always follow the advertised “schedule”.

Today (Thursday December 12th), there was a mini outage at around 3AM for about an hour in the coast. It’s not a huge blackout of course but it shows that there are still inconsistencies in the schedule and the possibility that blackouts can happen. There was also a report that the industrial zone will have blackouts for 15 days starting on December 15th. This still doesn’t change my verdict in the video and in fact it reinforces what I said in my conclusion around the end. Thank you for reading through this mini update and for watching the video!

Your government should let people sell back excess power created by personal energy production like solar and generators to the system yo offset during the blackouts. Cheers from Sweden.

Great content, it's always good to find some Ecuadorian content in the English language, most Ecuadorians consider English as not so necessary (sadly). I'm from Portoviejo city and lately blackouts have stopped but I'm still afraid of turning on my computer and damaging it if a blackout catches it.

In my day, we had candles. We survived!

My dad bought a small generator. But that was 50 years ago. We no longer have this problem. Electricity is much more reliable. The last time we had a blackout, a major cascading failure tripped and cut power to most of the country. It happened around 2am, and was restored before 6am. Probably wouldn't have taken so long if it had occurred in daytime. But this really is a better option than a generator.

The power keeps going out due to the extra load of everyone charging batteries.

In the age of the technology there are some more options like UPS and Solar inverters. An automatic residential ups system will be the best option.

What about the millions of people who don’t have the money to buy that? They can’t even buy food…😢😢. When Ecuador was the example to follow for many countries in the region?

The problem with this, is that if everyone does this, we we all have longer cuts. Cutting our usage is what needs to happen. My proposal would be to DRASTICALLY increase the price as people use more. Too many people are using air conditioning in 4 rooms when they live alone.

Add some solar panels and you can easily extend your use time.

I think everyone should speak English, we are in a world made by this language and if you don't understand it you can't understand the world, when Ecuadorian seems embarrassed by how bad my spanish is I just say that they should learn English. I think the same of my own country, France, I made the effort to learn to speak the universal language and everyone should do it, all other language are optional even your native one if it's not English.

The best way to get through the crisis would be to raide the prices. That way everyone could conserve in their own way and always have electricity when they really need it. I'm aware that many would say that's unfair because the more well off wouldn't be very affected, but the ones who can afford generators are of course the more well off. And then those who use generators pay more anyway because gas generators are less efficient, and so does everyone, rich or poor, indirectly. And then when the crisis is over, all those generators sit idle when the money to pay for them could have been saved. So the general point is that market forces and realistic pricing solve problems while rationing causes problems both short and long term. That's always hard to hear in the world of politics, but that sort of thinking should be promoted. It worked for Milei, so it can work anywhere.

Hola, Ace. Qué lástima escuchar que aparte de no brindar el servicio, nos estafan con la factura. En lo personal no he visto incremento en mi factura (tampoco decrecimiento), pero hay suficientes testimonios para darse cuenta que algo no anda bien en el cobro de la factura. Da más pena que no sea el único problema grave que tenemos como país (inseguridad, perdida de empleo, migración, etc). Pero lo peor es escuchar a los demás repetir que "no es culpa del gobierno, es la naturaleza", como si no fuera su culpa el montón de mentiras y promesas rotas. El futuro se ve negro, pero si no lo solucionamos nosotros los ecuatorianos, nadie más lo hará.
