    Great job Ace, Oscar is really good at explaining the EC system and understanding the needs of expats. Super interview, thanks to you both !

    Great interview. I was a paramedic in the U.S. and I can confirm the charges you mentioned. If we picked up a patient on scene and just did oxygen, heart monitor and an IV it was a minimum of $3,000 and went up from there!
    An air ambulance helicopter is ruinously expensive.

    I went to Ecuador for advice about 15 years ago, but went to a native shaman, not a western trained medico.

    An ambulance cost $800 in Sarasota...ambulances are expensive in the USA because the people that drive are trained to attend the person medically until they get to the hospital.

    There are travel health insurance but you can save 50% if you ARENT covered in the USA. They also reimburse you, so you have to pay upfront.

      Yeah I saw in the ones I check that it’s cheaper without coverage in the states. I think that’s fine for most people if they’re coming from the states but I think for those who might eventually want to go it’s kinda unfortunate that it’s expensive but it does make sense that it is with how expensive healthcare is in the states.

    Great interview Ace, informative. Does EC have air ambulance services?

    • @oscaralarcon5223
      @oscaralarcon5223 8 месяцев назад +1

      We don’t have air ambulance service currently. But in the Amazon region there are some communities that are so far from everything deep in the jungle that the only way we have to reach a patient is through a little airplane, but is not an air ambulance, is just a normal airplane.

    • @oscaralarcon5223
      @oscaralarcon5223 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, here in Ecuador you could get almost everything without a prescription, sometimes they will ask you for a doctor-signed prescription for some antibiotics and they always ask for a prescription when you are buying sedatives and anesthesia

      We lived in remote west Texas and life flights, which were WAY too routine, were $30,000 and that was several years ago.
