    Hi Ace. My wife and I are coming to Manta the end of March for an exploratory trip beginning in Manta and working our way down to Olon. My brother and his wife were going to go with us but backed out for safety concerns. I don’t have those. I’m a jailer with an extensive background in security so I’m always aware of my surroundings. Oh well, their loss. Crime is high everywhere. Our jails and prisons in Minnesota are busting at the seams. If I were afraid of rising crime I’d never leave the house. I’m certainly not going to let a few dirtbags dictate how I live my life. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to experience some of your beautiful country.

    Hi, we just returned to Canada after spending two weeks visiting your wonderful country where we had a magnificent and trouble-free stay. We never felt any insecurity. We stayed in the Sierra region, but we are already thinking about returning to explore the south and the coastal region of Ecuador.

    I'm glad I've subscribed to your channel, and to some others that focus on life in Ecuador, Ace. Ecuador is high on my list of countries to ex-pat to once I retire, and despite the current challenges facing it, my opinion hasn't changed. I've only recently visited for the first time, last October, but I felt a connection that has stayed with me since. I will continue to stay abreast of what's happening in Ecuador, and will continue to anticipate exploring your wonderful country further!

      I completely understand that. The main factor that could make it easier to get a job is having connections, that’s just the “law of the land” and I’m pretty sure you already know that. The more “complicated” but realistic (and fair) route is if you have university degrees (masters + phd) from countries outside of Latin America and if you have a good amount of work experience. Regardless, I hope you get to come back and have a great time!

    Please show me the housing types, cost and the distance to the Manta, Quito Airports.

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  6 месяцев назад +1

      I think for housing types I might be able to do that for Manta. As for distances, I made a short where I showed how long it took me to get from Manta to Quito. If you mean how long it would take to get to the airport in each respective city, it does primarily depend on where you’re at in the city. Like if you live right next to (close to) the airport in Manta then it would be really quick to reach but if you live far away then it could take forever. Just to give an estimate (based on living in the middle of the city), in Manta it would take around 10min maybe a bit more depending on traffic conditions. Quito is a different story since the airport is pretty far from the city and can take around 30-40min+ to reach, that’s how long it took me anyways when I was there.

    Right now, Ecuador has bad education, really expensive if you want to go to a private institution for a primary education - where the monthly tuition is higher than a monthly mininum wage. If you ask why private school when there are public schools - public schools standard is so bad and overpopulated, it's also very unsafe.
    Public healthcare sucks. To get an appointment, usually you have to wait for 6 to 1 year to get it and you're lucky if they have medicines - not even a paracetamol!
    Crime rate is high, too much ugly poor dangerous areas specially in Guayaquil, not much locals knows English. Cost of living is crazy high - apparently people are having 3 credit cards, they use credits and loans to survive. All reasons to leave this country.
    I don't think you spend less here, the cost of items in the grocery store is not too far from the ones abroad. Even the coffee here in Sweet n Coffee, a mocha milkshake is $4 that is not affordable considering the minimum wage is just $450.
    A country is not safe if kids can't even go to a public park without fear of being kidnapped or killed. Honest opinion here, Ecuador is not a place to live. To visit? Yes maybe for 2 weeks but never live in this country
    .

    • @kathyandthedogs626
      @kathyandthedogs626 6 месяцев назад +1

      I would posit that a country is unsafe if its students are gunned down in classrooms and regularly train in active shooter drills, or if many/most of its citizens feel the need to carry a weapon whenever they venture out of their homes.
      Couple the safety issues with extraordinary healthcare than is simply too expensive for a sizable percentage of the population, continued disinvestment in public schools directly and indirectly through voucher programs, and a tectonic shift in wealth over the past few decades from the middle class to the top 1-2%, etc. Then you have a better picture of why Ecuador still is so appealing to many of us!
      Keep on keeping on, Ace!

      "Crazy high" cost of living? The average apartment in the USA costs $1700 and in Ecuador it's $300. A gallon of gas is $3.30 in USA vs. $2.40 in Ecuador. A ride on the NYC Subway or bus costs $2.90 vs. 45 cents in Quito. An average hotel room in USA is $150 vs. less than $20 in Ecuador
