      @@RainbowHarmonyIf you are worried you shouldn’t come. Choose a place where you will feel confident that nothing will happen. Ecuador is an unstable country at the moment. We are all waiting what will happen next. Most probably civil unrest because the population is becoming very unhappy with the bad economic and healthcare situation. Let’s hope that in coming years the situation will be better.

    Thanks Ace, for a very important update. I am now moving forward with preparing for my move to your lovely country. ETA mid-June. I truly believe in the kind, loving, gentle Ecuadorian people. Becoming friends with a number of "real" Ecuadorians made my decision to transplant an easy one. I pray that President Naboa can accomplish his goals and that he continues to have the support of the people.

    Hi: Thanks for all the work on this video. Here are two points: 1. Cuenca Ecuador is perfectly safe. 2. I have never felt more unsafe while I lived in Phoenix Arizona (AZ). There are pockets in AZ ( in the gated gulf courses and Scottsdale) that there are relative safety. But Cuenca is much safer than AZ.

      Cuenca is of course not perfectly safe but the situation is manageable if you take appropriate measures:
      - have walls or fences around your home

      - don’t walk in empty streets at night or early in the morning

    I have faith in the work done in Ecuador. Defeating narco-groups is possible to do. This happened in Peru in the 80's and 90's. Tocache and Uchiza were place where drug-lords had all the power. A relentless battle done by special forces Sinchis de Mazamari won this war . Nowadays those areas are peaceful and farmers do prefer cultivating cacao and coffee instead of illegal crops. The last military operation as "operacion patriota, 2022" destroyed some small remaining groups of Shining Path , deep in the jungle. The battle against illegal substances in Peru is not in the streets of cities or towns, instead in very remote inaccessible jungle places.

      @GMAceM  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you as always for the thoughtful comment and I appreciate you always giving some insight into the situations in Peru especially in this case because it gives me hope. I’ve seen/heard from Ecuadorian friends and comments as well about how unlikely it is to defeat narcos completely but I know that it’s not impossible to at least push them back to a point where their influence isn’t as big as it’s been these past few years. Let’s keep doing our own personal best to keep making the countries we live in better.

Our curfew in this area was short lived. I have traveled the world and resided in the U.S. 68 years. I have lived in Ecuador for 12 years and would not consider living anywhere else. You are safer in Ecuador than any day in the U.S. This video is good advice and if you plan to visit Ecuador, check our newspapers, i.e. El Comercio, El Universo, etc., for daily updates. Ecuadorians are the nicest people in the World. And our newest President is a God send. I doubt anyone can find anyone better.

      @GMAceM  5 месяцев назад +2

      That’s a great question Kathy but I don’t know the answer, definitely have to ask around. I feel that if it’s working it should be possible but realistically it probably isn’t sustainable (which is why there’s the tax increase) and if I remember correctly it is unconstitutional and Noboa seems to want to avoid doing anything that goes against the constitution.

      El Salvador had to fight numerous small and badly organized local gangs. Ecuador has to fight large gangs (Los Lobos from Cuenca and Quito has 8,000 members for example) that have infiltrated the government and are backed by powerful Mexican cartels. Fighting the gangs in Ecuador will take a long time but it must be doable.

    Ecuadors number one problem is its official currency It is what Criminals want . For example I am a Canadian living in Colombia. My dollar buys a lot a Pesos . My dollar doesn't buy a lot of US dollars in fact Ecuador is a rip off when I have to pay 40 cents more for the Greenback It just doesn't make sense to travel to a country where my dollar is worth less.
    I traveled Ecuador for 3 months 2022-23 I did 12000 km with my Motorcycle and it was by no means a Bargain. or Wow look at this place you must see.
    The only thing I found that was truly wow was the High way infrastructure Colombia has a long way to go before it matches Ecuador. But Colombia is a country that is way larger and has 3 giant mountain Ranges. and 2 oceans there is way more to do in Colombia.

    I like your comment, "I had no idea how much was taken for how little was given".
    US citizens are the exact same as that. But I'm not sure if they have become self-aware.
    The easier struggle is military action against criminal gangs designated as terrorists.
    What is much harder will be to create better economic conditions for Ecuadorians.
    Naboa, with his US background, made a big mistake in the Russian military equipment deal with the USA. It is a mistake to think that the US government would do anything out good will for Ecuador. Without any exchange of goods, USA has created a rift between Ecuador and Russia that did not need to be. And the lives and incomes of Ecuadorians in the banana trade will now suffer real consequences for this mistake. Will the US support Ecuador and buy those bananas (and flowers) since the market to Russia is now lost? I wouldn't have much faith in that.
    I like Naboa, he strikes me as sincere and committed. But, he just took his first big punch in diplomacy on the big stage and needs to prove he has a solid chin. Pawning it off as a "scrap metal" deal is not good enough. He needs to find a solution that meets both Ecuador's needs and their values. He needs to work on this like his presidency and the future of Ecuador depend on it. Is Ecuador a nation of people who would send arms to be used to kill Russians in exchange for gifts from the north? From what I see, your people are not those people. So, why is it being done?
    I pray for all of you in Ecuador. You are in a fight for the future of your country and the cartels are not the only threat to it. The entire balance of world power and trade is changing rapidly. The USA has ignored South America for years but will be pivoting south as their situation erodes in the far east. Ecuador is tied to the US dollar but some of their largest trading partners are BRICS nations. Bad relations and lost trade with Russia can quickly turn into the same with China and Brazil.
    Ecuador is a small country with it's strength lying in the hearts of Ecuadorians themselves. I humbly suggest Ecuadorians stay true to who they are in the face of the challenges ahead. I say this as a person from a nation who did not make the right choices and lost their way a long time ago.

    • @user-zc9od9wo5c
      @user-zc9od9wo5c 4 месяца назад

      There are reports that Naboa will be reversing his decision on arms to Ukraine, that banana exports will resume and this will be officially announced soon. If this turns out to be the case, I highly commend Naboa for the courage to correct course.
      Naboa was/is in a very challenging situation. He had to strike hard and fast to gain control of the country, made an expedient decision to gain more resources quickly, but this snowballed into a diplomatic and economic crisis placing Ecuador between to major opposing powers.
      Anyway, I put my criticism out there on Naboa's arms deal so I feel it is necessary to come back and acknowledge the work and effort it appears he has put in to address the situation. When one takes bold actions, not everything works out as planned and it shows great maturity and wisdom when a leader can make adjustments to their own policy decisions.

To what degree is there awareness of related topics to feminism both on the individual level and and the institutional level? Are there any institutions, at all, and if so, are they trustful? I have lived in Ecuador for almost 4 years. As far as I can tell, the root of all the problems is economic. The corruption, lack of foreign investment, and expensive socialist policies (like gasoline subsidies) have kept Ecuador poor. Also, I'm sure that all the negative press about Ecuador right now is depressing tourism, which is a significant amount of Ecuador's GDP. If young people can't find jobs then they will either leave the country or work for the narco-traffickers.

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  5 месяцев назад +1

      A lot of people I’ve talked to have a similar viewpoint. It’s apparently very easy to influence people to want to work for narcos if they can’t earn a decent living through normal means, not to mention they may view it as “easier”. I also think family values tie into this but that’s also just stemming from poverty since if the parents have no money and live either being criminals themselves or with the bare minimum, the child might deem it necessary to find a way out and the quickest way they find is narcos. Others of course look to leave the country like I mentioned in previous videos but it all does feel like it mainly centers around money.

    It's a tragedy but i'm actually glad this erupted and is being dealt with properly. Ecuador deserves to be the non-narco friendly and safe place that it used to be. It's been run down way too far for way too long from the narco invasion from it's neighbors Colombia and Peru. It's well past time to do something serious about it.

      Hi , your harsh statement is unfortunately not true. I'm from Peru and there is no invasion of narcos from my country. No gangs going from Peru to Ecuador. Probably not from Colombia too. To be clear, gang members from Ecuador are entering our country, but we are not going to blame ecuadorians for this situation. It is a regional problem. Some ecuadorians authorities accepted to negociate with international organized drugs cartels from Mexico, Albania, etc for a bribe involved. The corruption of judges, prosecutors, policemen, customs services, Is an internal problem rooted in Ecuador. The main side of the problem are gringos consuming drugs in USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, etc. You belong to a drug-loving society. Do you also consume drugs ?

      Another multidimensional fake statement. FARC is actually very strong in Colombia. Your society is the main part of the problem. So much drug-abusers. Using drugs because they cannot dealth with stress or lonelyness.

      you made it up again. It seem to be your style. Evading the responsibility of being part of a drug-loving society. Do you consume drugs ? it is a simple question.

      @@davidveraok I don’t but that’s got nothing to do with where the problem originates and regardless of how uncomfortable that is for you that it is Peru it’s the truth. Besides lots of people in Peru also consume drugs.
