This Summer's too Hot, so let's Simulate History on a Cold Desert World: 5000+ Years Timelapse
DISCORD INVITE LINK: discord.gg/qPSPeZUufS
Welcome back everybody! ❤️ Today's world was submitted by Halley on the Discord, it's a world they made with the Fantasy World Engine generator program you can download from the Discord! It's an interesting world, cold and very dry, so much of the world's non-ocean water is locked in its icecaps, and the habitable zone around the equator is dominated by cold dry deserts.
I'm still hard at work on the World Explorer program. I've been making steady progress, so get on the Discord and ask for the active people role to be updated when anything exciting gets released!
As always, thanks so much for watching, liking, and subscribing. I hope imaging life o...

    Nice map. But what do the colors in the tech level bar mean?

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 4 дня назад

      The highest tech bar is a bit of an imperfect representation of global advancement because the actual technology mechanics are tile-based (there's no global or even state-wide technology, it's all per tile, as the Civilization map in the 4-way split at the end shows.) The technology bar shows the HIGHEST level ever reached by any tile in that technology type. The colors represent the three different kinds of progression/advancements in the simulation: 🟦 Blue represents societal advancements. Meaning societal organization, developments that lead to greater urbanization and population density, etc.. 🟥 Red represents technological advancements. Meaning invention of new techniques, skills, scientific knowledge. Red advancements by themselves don't do too much mechanically, but they make Blue advancements possible. 🟪 Purple is just the overlap of Blue + Red both being present/discovered. ⬜ White is modernization and a high levels early industrialization. It is only possible to start modernization if a tile has reached max blue level, but modernization unlocks things like long-range colonization and other mechanics, like greater longevity for rulers. The simulation currently ends 50 years after a tile has reached max modernization. (That's why the final year varies from video to video, some worlds develop faster than others based on climate, amount of habitable land, etc.) That's why I show the highest technology on the bar, because it reflects how close the simulation is to finishing. Even though it's a very imperfect measure of the state of the world overall.

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 4 дня назад

      That's a very observant question! Normally my answer would be plagues or famines (the two disasters in the simulator but kinda hard to see in videos), but looking closely it may be that Purai conquers its enemies, and then the conquered lands have a complete economic collapse that isn't compensated by an economic boom in Purai's homelands 🤔 I'm not entirely sure what mechanics would be causing that, it's supposed to happen to some extent (conquerors diverting resources to their own homeland) but this is a very extreme case if so, I'll keep a watch for it in future simulations, thanks! ❤

      It's open to interpretation at this point, but my aim is a steampunk version of early 19th century in our world. So early industrialization, trains and blimps, but not quite electricity or cars yet. 👍

    I didn't think I could have so much respect for the ruler info until noticing how often rulership of Great Alakshmi changes at 4:55 to 5:07. It goes Hakhayahudit, Bator, Hakhayahudit, Bator, Arathi, Meny, Arathi, Babayo, Arathi, Babayo, Salya, Babayo, and on it goes. That's 12 leadership changes in 75 years, more than half of which are a previous head of state returning to power.

    Something that would be interesting to see would be a retro-sci-fi-Mars scenario: a fictional map of Mars where there are a few small-to-mid-sized lowland areas separated by planet-spanning frigid highlands, and then a network of canyons ("canals") extending strands of ocean and warm lowlands between the main lowland areas.

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 9 дней назад

      Thanks! ❤ I love the split at the end too, it's my favorite part sometimes! 😁 The civilization map shows the same thing the technology bar shows. But where the technology bar shows the highest advancement reached anywhere, the civ map shows the real state of the world, which is that each tile has its own tech level basically. The simulation uses three different kinds of technology: 🟦 Blue represents advancements in societal and economic organization, in particular advancements that lead to greater population density and urbanization. 🟥 Red represents advancements in science and knowledge, in particular the development of technology that enables faster and longer travel of people and cultural influences. 🟪 Purple is just the overlap of Blue + Red both being present/discovered. ⬜ White (and Grey) represents modernization and a high levels early industrialization. It is only possible to start modernization if a tile has reached max blue level, but modernization unlocks late game abilities like long-range colonization and claiming uninhabited areas.

    Does this simulator support a Republican or Democratic government type? Are there subclasses if so, i.e. a Roman style Republic, an American style Federal Republic, an Athenian Democracy, etc?

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 9 дней назад

      There's a Monarchy and Republican government types, which have different mechanics. Monarchs rule till they die, at which point they are succeeded by an heir. In Republics, there are regular elections, with the candidates being a small pool of "ruling elite" that replenishes as any of them die. In the videos, you can see the difference because monarchies always have a roman numeral after their rulers' names, whereas republics never do. The mechanic is kinda simple, but there's also flavor difference between theocracies, aristocracies, and meritocracies which determines the naming scheme for those nations (e.g. Commonwealth is a meritocratic government, and Archeparchy is a theocratic government). But at the moment there's no mechanical difference between these types the way there is between republics and monarchies.

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 9 дней назад

      Being a union between two states (Fanfen and Welemertas) gives them more leeway with regards to overextension compared to being just a single state, and this holds even if one state in the union takes full control of it, as Fanfen did when it became Great Fanfen. Even if Welemertas becomes the junior partner in the union, they're still treated differently than if they're just another subjugated state in that situation :)

    The early large dictatorship on the eastern peninsula really seemed to set the governmental tone for the region going forward. Lotta dictatorship-class governments based there throughout the game. (Hegemonies are the sim's size level evolution of dictatorships, right?) You'd mentioned before that a nation subjugating a region could affect the region's government-type, so I think this may be an example of that, and not just me seeing phantom patterns in the noise, but I know the brain is REALLY good at seeing patterns where there are none, given the opportunity, and the high governmental turnover rate on this map gave LOTS of opportunity. 😆

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 12 дней назад

      Hey, thanks for the comment! Yeah, Hegemonies are empire-sized dictatorships. I posted a table of government types over on the Discord yesterday. I also made me realize I had confusingly used Hegemony both as the empire-tier of Dictatorships and as the final tier of Alliances/Federations/Etc. so I'm renaming that last one to Dominions for future videos 😆 And no, it's definitely the case that Hentabi being such a large a prominent dictatorship early on forced their government on all their provincial vassals, and then when Hentabi fell those vassal became independent but remained dictatorships. Thus leading to a dictatorship peninsula. It's all very much working as intended. You can imagine it similarly to how all of Europe ended up with a similar medieval feudal structure based around kings and dukes and barons, because of a combination of the Roman Empire and Charlemagne having spread that particular kind of government across most of the continent. There were still republics in medieval Europe too, but one government type became dominant for many centuries. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! ❤

    • @FWHSimulator
      @FWHSimulator 12 дней назад

      Yeah! A culture's starting color is determined by where on the map they first emerge. On most maps the dominant colors will be the ones around the equator and the center, so some of the ones common to the corners are indeed pretty rare, and if they emerge likely to get conquered soon if not isolated.
