Testing Series VI: Balancing on a Tropical World

    Hi y'all, welcome back to another video, weee! ❤️❤️❤️
    Since the last video, I've re-enabled alliances and federations. There's also a new type of multi-state polity now: hegemonies. Hegemonies are the end state of the diplomatic life cycle. If a federation survives long enough and remains stable enough, it centralizes around its strongest member state and becomes a hegemony.
    I'm still working on the balance. For this and the next couple of video's, you're going to see probable more federations and alliances then I'd like. I've been doing my best to tweak numbers but haven't gotten were I want to yet.
    To keep things interesting, I'm running the simulation on a bunch of different maps! As you may have noticed! Over a year ago I released a random world map generator on the discord, largely based on the open source World Engine map generator. At the time, I made a bunch of maps that seemed cool to run a simulation on one day, and I'm going through that archive now!

    Great as always, will things like plagues, disasters or societal collapse be included in the future?

      There actually is a plague and disaster mechanic. Uhhhh... its effects are pretty hard to notice though. At some point I need to go back and rebalance that, but it's one of those things where if it's too strong you just end up with civilization being wiped out every hundred years and that's no fun either.

    I've noticed that the generated worlds in the videos are a bit different from those that we can generate in 1.3 generator
    will you give us an updated version of the generator? I'll find it very helpful, honestly :)

      Hey, cool to hear you find it useful! I think if these seem differently it's probably because they're from an even older version than the 1.3 generator. Or maybe I didn't use this color scheme? Anyways, please ask me about it on the Discord!!! I can def find time to release an updated version, I just need to know there's a demand and what you'd like improved :) (though I can't, like, do super big changes that would take weeks, but there's plenty of stuff that could be improved within a weekend iirc)
